This video shows how I would START a sketch or drawing. Drawing takes patience and practice to achieve a desired result. Didn't have time to turn this into a finished drawing, but this is how I would start one - with a simple sketch. At the end I show some finished drawings - some from a drawing class I took in college.

You are actually teaching us , that's is so amazing. Not unlike some other videos that I have seen where they are just creating magic and kind of condescending towards the beginner. So thank you so much.your videos means a lot to me .

Yes, his videos are great for starting out. I've never seen an artist that talks down to their viewers. It might be they are going for a mature age group.

To be honest, I don’t mind long videos. As long as I can focus and learn how to draw, it’s all good. I have all the time and patience I’d need for this, so just stay calm and don’t worry about long videos. I’m sure mostly everyone else feels the same as well.

Please leave this series up FOREVER! Priceless instruction in these videos. Thanks for the pro tips and encouragement. Especially the part about not trying to be perfect. Art can, then, be therapeutic. Great job. 🌈👍😁

Thank you so, so much! Your teaching is clear, understandable, nicely broken down, and we can actually follow along. You're never moving too fast or being condescending to the viewer (like so many other videos out there unfortunately). We are actually learning and drawing- it's like magic. I've never tried to draw anything seriously because I didn't think I could...I was so proud when I found my sketched shapes actually looked like shapes after the first video and I honestly almost teared up when I got to the 1- and 2-point perspective videos and managed to draw those too. I couldn't believe that I could draw such beautiful, simple things, seemingly out of nowhere. In fact, I'm staring at my sketchbook right now at my cup (THAT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE MY CUP, SHADING AND ALL) and having all sorts of feels. You are a wonderful teacher and artist and I hope you keep doing these videos! :)

It's funny to see you draw like us when all we want to do is to be able to draw like you!
Thank you for covering some very useful principles. It's also helpful to see sketches done in real time, as speed art videos do tend to distort just how long it takes to do a drawing. This was of course a very quick sketch, as your more measured work at the end of the video shows.

I have watched 8 of your videos and am amazed at how easy I picked up on your points. I didn't know I could even draw this much, One of the main reason I wanted to learn how to draw is that i have dabbled in wood carving and have to sometimes draw on the wood. I have no idea. What I want to carve is animals and such. I don't know if you are into animals or not, but I sure could use some pointers on how to draw them. Anything of that nature would best helpful. Your videos are awesome. Like I said, I have already learned a lot from the videos I have watched. Thank you so much. I have subscribed so I will be watching for your next videos.

I have always loved drawing and painting
I was never like crazy skilled but I had the talent in me
I needed a lot of practice and a lot of education tho
I wanted to study in fine arts school but I realized that I don't have enough skill because my parents never ever tried to take care of my hobby , my dad always wanted to save money, and I also noticed how all of my friends that wanted to study in fine arts school were so much better than me , and so many people made fun of the drawings or sketches that I made , and that discouraged me a lot..
Three years later , I got introduced to something that is kinda like fine arts school but I think it's better , you can sign up in there and they give you all of the equipments and supplies that you need and want , you paint and draw in there , however, whatever work of art you create there , it's owned by them , and it's all for free , and that really encouraged me to start practicing at home , regaining my skills , and I found your channel, and just when I thought that I lost my talent you made me realize that I still have it , thank you so much , your words inspire me ❤️

Hey Brandon, I love your videos. I have had a problem for so long about just not drawing even though I love it and your videos are inspiring and helping me. I draw along to them - copying what you do and looking at your subject etc. It's such fun and is getting me going in a big way. I hope you make many, many more of them! Thanks! PS. I think another thing I like so much is how you explain a lot of what you're doing - the concepts which I either didn't ever know or didn't really think were that important. You're showing me that things like shading are essential parts of drawing (even though I always loved that part) Crazy!

hey there. I was wondering if you plan on doing a video for how to sketch faces. I'm currently practicing drawing my hands just like you said in a previous video and it's working out pretty well, but evertime when I try to draw a face from a picture (with your tips in mind) I simply don't know what to do. I draw some lines and the basic shape but after that it's just one grey blobb of nothing. I don't want it to be realistic but more like your self portrait in episode 8. You already helped me a lot and my main issue is patience and your tips just keep me motivated. :)

You re a good teacher and i like that you have patience to explain us all this things. So i can't wait to get home from work, take the paper and the pencil and sketch until i get what i want. Speed will come in time. Just enjoy the process in the beginning. Eventually you'll get faster and faster. It's good to mix it up too though. Do some quick sketches and time yourself. Not to try to finish in the time, but to just see what you can capture in that time, etc. Do some longer drawings which take like 4 to 5 hours or longer. And then do very quick gestures of just 5 mins. Capture what is absolutely necessary for your subject. Etc. Hope that helps :)

I know the standard advice, the advice I've heard from seventh grade through high school. through art school. and all over RUclips is to find the lightest and darkest areas of a sketch/drawing/painting. This is fine if you're a rank beginner, but I think it starts to suck after about the first year. And I absolutely am never, ever going to squint at my drawing.
This is all no more than trying to be a camera, and when you do this, bad art results. Just wanting to reproduce an exact image leads to certain failure. Hyperrealism never means being a camera. We already have cameras that create wonderful photos, better images than any artist can ever equal.
I've seen artists take two years to draw a 18x24 cowboy on a horse, and twice this long to paint something just as simple. All because they wanted to be cameras. This is a sure sign of trying to be a camera.
It's like "never hold your pencil close to the point". Why not? You get far more control this way, and artists have been holding pencils this way for centuries. Some of my favorite artists still do.
RUclips is responsible for many of the silly rules and senseless advice that abounds, and modern art scho0ol located in Europe offer up much more, but it's all silly, and it's destroying new artists.

I like shorter videos, but maybe they could be a little longer. Some art training videos make everything seem so complicated, but your videos provide a good overview without overwhelming the viewer. At the end of each video, however, you could add more points or nuances to flesh out the concept more, but the general overview helps me get a holistic handle on the concept and gives me a feeling of "Hey, I can do this!"
