I am over fifty, I have been to well over a thousand concerts, have owned thousands and thousands of albums. I play several instruments and have made music a part of my daily life since I began guitar lessons at five. I can honestly say that I feel like this particular Tool song is as close to a perfect song as can be written. I include every genre, every era, all music...this ranks right at the top. Country, big band, opera, rap, classical, this is just about as close to perfection as anyone has ever achieved...

One of my favorite parts of Tool songs is how great they're mixed for headphone listening, especially when it comes to the drums. Tool mixes their drums so the sound wraps around your head like you're hearing them from where Danny is sitting, it's a really cool 3D sound effect

I think you cut the song short. 52 y/o and saw tool 20 years ago and was blown away! I have to say they have been the one band that remains consistently genuine in their music. It's all been world class music from the start, even when they were new. They have a way of telling a story, maybe even your very own story, if you can place yourself in Maynards shoes. The other thing I love about Tool is that neither of them is striving for individual greatness. They would rather elevate the entire group than stand out from the group. That says something in this day and age of narcissism.

I love the instrumental climax in this song. The buildup was the marching of both sides' forces to the battlefield and when Adam's guitar drops they clash with one another. It paints a picture of the war/battle between the two sides and this is the only resolution to solve this conflict over something so trivial. Angels on the sideline again, wondering when this tug of war will end.

Some of my prophetic thoughts of 2021:
"Do gooder" (Yes, I am well aware it is improper English - that's part of the point, aside from the obvious one, encouraging positivity and upward-facing goals)
"All everyone wants is success, right? So let's all help everyone else succeed. It's as simple as that!" -me, Jan 9, 2021 (This is what actually inspired the "Do gooder" slogan for the year.

12:37 - Something else I'll say, about Tool's mixing, it reminds me of how a lot of top-flight EDM (I don't mean 'popular', I mean best deep-end producers like ASC, Scuba, Ritchie Hawtin, Loxy and Resound, etc.) would arrange a space. It's fair because, in like kind, what Tool is doing is similarly psychedelic and exploratory.

I get not focusing on the lyrics on the initial listen, but not touching on their input and meaning to the entire piece is neglecting a big part of the song. It would be interesting hearing your thoughts on not just the journey the music takes you on, but also the story the lyrics are telling. If anyone agrees, speak up! Peace.
