  • Finally, I got the throttle to work! It idles stable and smooth. Maybe I am going to put it in an RC-Plane this summer.

That is really awesome " I love it" I'm surprised how slow it runs, I was thinking it would sound like a hive of angry bee's " but it sounds really nice" it's great and I want one on a plane" great job " fantastic "

So cool. Any plans you can share with me? I would love to make one of these engines myself

Hi. Sorry for the late reply. I do have some plans but only very simple 2D drawings I have made and everything is metric. Also, I have made small changes to some of the parts afterwards but I'll send you the Pictures and plans i have if you want so.

Ok. I know what I'm going to do with all the cox motors I bought that I KNEW I'd do something with someday...
    I've got 8 brand new .074's?
The ones with the throttle that never did work right for me as a kid....

The .074s should work even better than my .049.

@@christiansprojects-cgmanuf1426 that's what I was thinking... I'm terns of design, I'm sort of familiar with the way I think a lot of radials work.
Most use a master rod and then the rest are slaved off of it. Is that the approach you took?
That seems like the easiest way to begin.
Also, can I use aluminum for the case or stainless steel maybe?
      What did you use?
I suppose as small as the piece is it should be pretty easy to make just about anything work.

@@christopherleveck6835 Exactly. I designed it like the big radials: One master rod and four slave rods connected to it. The master rod is assembled out of a standard cox rod and a machined Center piece soldered to it. All of the parts except for the crankshaft and the master rod center piece are made out of machine grade aluminium.
Also keep in mind that cox engines are really sensitive to the compression ratio. The engine has to be designed so that the stroke and the compression is exactly the same as in the cox.
Additionally, you have to design a blower which forces the air/fuel muxture into the crankcase. Because it’s a two stroke radial, all the pistons are oscillation around the crankshaft. The crank case voulme doesn’t change so it doesn’t suck in the mixture by itself.
I designed the compressor/blower like a small air pump (rotary vane pump) from an air horn and I also took parts from such a pump. The delivered volume per revolution of this blower hast o be around the total displacement oft he engine. In your case, around 6ccm per revolution.
I can send you some pictures and plany of my engine., if you stil want to build one :-P
