  • How quiet is the new GHG2017 Volvo engine, lets find out! For comparison lets also take a 2012 Ford F350 6.7L powerstroke diesel for a drive.
Unfortunately it was raining during these tests so you will be able to hear the rain in the background so it may have slightly effected some of the volume levels.
Gregg from RVHaulers and Jonathan Nosbush from JonnyVolvo.ca share some of the unique options that are considered when factory ordering a new Volvo heavy truck. When we order a Volvo heavy truck designed for towing our relatively light-weight recreational RV 5th wheels, we can tailor the rig to our own needs.
If you are considering a new Volvo as your RVHauler candidate truck, both Gregg and Jonathan welcome your calls and questions!

The latest Ford Super duty 2017+ is substantially quieter, but you still can't beet the longevity
and hauling capacity of the transport trucks. Thanks Gregg your vids are always a pleasure.

    What a great comparison.
I suspect that your sound meter app isn't weighted to the human ear response, which is why the Volvos measure higher than what they seem when you ride in them.
The real test would be the noise level when towing a trailer.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to post your comment. I agree that using my cell phone isn't really all that accurate as high-quality sound meter. Maybe I'll check out how to rent one, and see if the results change. Darn, another video to make!

It would be really neat to know if there was any practical sound difference between the 730 and the 780 with the taller sleeper. My 2012 F-350 is much quieter than my 2008 Chevy 3500 was, so am looking forward to the sound of ny new 2018 730 pulling into N.H. in Kansas to pickup our new bumper pull TT!!!

Would be interested in seeing a comparison with you actually hauling a large 5th wheel trailer behind these trucks. While both will likely be louder under full load, I predict the Ford will be MUCH louder than the HD truck.

Good idea. I know this test has many flaws (including not using a professional sound meter). I will keep collecting these good ideas, and maybe schedule a good test with a bit more real-life scenarios, and better test equipment. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I think you are right there. When I see those guys test the F-450's hauling 30K up the mountains, they can't hard;y speak over them into the mic it is so loud.
