- My cheap tow truck has a lot of issues. Lights not working, a bad winch, bad brakes and much more. Can I fix all the issues? Can I get my cheap tow truck road legal again?

Don't leave us with it half-done. The MOT jobs, other than tires, are small but significant.
Mounting racks along the sides of the bed could hold the ramps, perhaps acting as protective sides for loads.
That's some shoddy work from the first inspector, not flagging up those extra issues. As you say, you thought you had ticked everything off and then the next inspector finds extra stuff. Super annoying. I did enjoy this video and would definitely watch the next instalment.
Great to see you fixing this truck. The ramps do need a nice place to mount during car transport. Below the deck seems best, but how about along each side of the rear deck, standing up above the deck? How about a rack above the car and over the roof of the truck cab?

My goodness Adam the second inspector was very thorough . To be fair at least you'll know the vehicle will be in top top order . Here in the uk these brakedown vehicles are speed limited to 56mph ( 90 kph )
I agree with most of the other comments that i do want to see the other work needed to get the truck ready for its retest. One thing about transporting a big Jag (I know from experience), it will bounce around even if its tied down, and the front bumper especially should have some padding around it so it doesnt get damaged while travelling.

Not a big surprise that it didn't pass, but once all fixed and painted, it could be a good work truck. One thing that Adam should check is to see if it's legal or not to have the back wheels of the XJ6 on the diagonal part of the bed.

You put a rubber grommet on those holes in the frame that you ran the wires through, right? Otherwise, the frame will rub through the wire insulation and cause a short, with a potential for fire.
Yes I did. I put grommets on my new holes and added them to all the old ones I found too

I cant imagine how on earth you manage to get that long XJ with low ground clearance on to that VW without problems. Are you the new David Copperfield or something ??

Nice new toy, looks like the rear springs need replacing.You must get yourself a Ball Peen hammer and put your carpenters hammer away so that you can give the brake drums a dam good wack, they can take it.
Non-functioning brakes are a big issue that you should know would be an automatic fail for MOT purposes. All the other issues seem typical deferred maintenance items that most commercial vehicles tend to have because they are too busy being used to make money for their owners. Please. keep us posted on your efforts to get the truck running 100% road legal.
I made the mistake and assumed that the parking brake would work on the side the previous owner had just rebuilt.

Typiskt med besiktningen. Har varit fram och tillbaka 3 gånger med Saaben, och varje gång har de hittat något nytt. Bilen ska såklart inte godkännas med problem, men det vore bra om de kunde hitta allt på en gång.
