Bora being brought back to life is extremely significant to the story, since it establishes that Shenron can, in fact, bring people back to life. Major ramifications for the future of the series. And by doing this with a minor character, it manages to set up future return to life wishes without it seeming cheap.
Panties wish in S tier, immediately knew this would be good. Also appreciate the placement of the android wish as a Krillin Enjoyer. Something you didn't mention with the revive everyone wish against Kid Buu was that it wasn't just "bring everyone back," it was "bring everyone back except the really bad people," which leads to that priceless moment of Goku pointing out that Vegeta's halo is gone. It's extra ironic since they only started tacking on "except the bad guys" after Vegeta himself was brought back to life after Namek. Just something that ties into everything you already said about Vegeta's role in that fight that I've always really loved. Also, talking about 12:26 and the convenience of Guru's revival, way back during King Piccolo, it was established he felt physical pain while Goku was beating his offspring. Really doubt it was intentional on Toriyama's part, but I like treating that as a fact of Namekian biology to explain Guru's death. If Piccolo got a minor heart attack every time one of his kids got whacked, then the complete genocide on Namek definitely would've taken its toll on Guru. This was a really great video! Glad to have found your channel, and I'd be thrilled to hear more of your takes on the series.
I love your point about Guru! I have never thought about it that way or connected those two concepts. And honestly, while I agree that Toriyama was probably not thinking of that connection, 1) we don't know that for sure! Toriyama often pulled old concepts out of his hat and reincorporated them into the story, and 2) even if Toriyama wasn't thinking of it specifically, he has clearly evoked a similar concept, which means that's probably something he associated with Namekians as a race. And 3), with Daima, even though a lot of the new canon in there is obviously retrofitted into the series, it shows that Toriyama enjoyed building lore around Namekians, even after all this time. So I think your theory is pretty awesome! And yes, I did actually have a brief reflection on Vegeta's halo disappearing, and the idea of dragons discerning "good guys" and "bad guys," but I ended up deleting it to keep the video a bit shorter :) but yes--a great moment all around. Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the video, and I'm happy to report that I'm working on my Dragon Ball videos as we speak :) have a good day!
thanks!! i do feel like the video could have benefitted from a more stablished scale or ranking criteria, but at the end of the day I just jumped right into ranking the wishes. I'm going to rank the movies, Super, and GT as well, so I may adjust some rankings as I go.
yamcha's "revive everyone killed by cell" wish is even WORSE when you realize he specified on EARTH, leading to king kai still being dead, bit minor but cmon, bro literally bummed on his planet and he doesn't even have the kindness to bring him back? edit: "that's from abri-" ALRIGHT I GET IT
I mean how would he have known that goku teleported to king kai’s planet unless he was told then my wrong but how would he know where goku teleported to. it could have been anywhere for all Yamcha knows.
King Piccolo probably didn’t wish for immortality because 1. He probably thought he was strong enough and 2. He was already trapped for eternity in a rice cooker. Maybe he was was worried about something similar and wanted death as a emergency exit.
Got to love how one of the most silly wishes is the exact first wish, where shenron looked absolutely terrifying, anything could be wished for, and panties are the end result 😭
When I first saw this video in my recommend I was worried it would just be a rather blunt description of all of them but you very pleasantly surprised me! This video is honestly one of the best Dragon Ball videos I've ever seen! I could feel your love for the series throughout the entire thing. I'm excited to see what you do next :)
wow, thank you so much for this comment! i really appreciate it, and i'm happy that my love of the series came through. i wanted to avoid this video feeling like a summary, and instead be a fun discussion around the series and its famous plot devices, attempting a ranking but looking at more than just a wish's outcome. the original idea came from a script i was working on called "are the dragon balls lazy?" which I may still go back and finish. thank you again. my next few vids are all going to be about Dragon Ball, so I hope you like those too!
Loved this and I actually agree with every ranking. The Dragon Balls get a bad rap but when you truly look at the details, you see how necessary the wishes are, how they advance the plot, and how they even yes, in Yamcha's case, point out fallacies or a lack of strategy.
Great video! As a writer it's really cool seeing someone discuss the actual writing choices and how they affect the narrative. Too much of the db content on youtube is just discussing lore or power levels
Thank you!! If you like this writing-focused approach to Dragon Ball, definitely keep your eyes on my channel! I’ve got some videos in the works that I think you will really like :)
I find it so sweet how you talked about yamcha and krillin sitting on the beach, talking about girl problems.... we focus way too much on canon this and retcon that, this is how we should think!
I’m glad you appreciated that!! My greatest wish in dragon ball is that we could have seen more training among the various characters. So often, training just results in a time skip. Would’ve loved to see the training on Kami’s lookout, before the androids arrive, vegetas training between the cell and buu saga, etc
Piccolo wishing to be brought to namek was insanely risky, but I agree him acting on that emotion, that desire to stop a tyrant who massacred the people he never knew was a powerful moment even if it only lasted a a chapter or two. Sometimes a characters mistakes or loses can be more impacted than their triumphs or victories.
I totally agree! Some of the best moments of Dragon Ball are when a character’s emotions get the better of them. This is why I love the beginning of the Demon King Piccolo Arc, when Goku is enraged and trying to avenge Krillin, even though it’s incredibly dangerous
1. I think I missed the post-mortem role and powers of a local god due to touch-and-go interest in original dragon ball. That info was key. 2. This was so dense with helpfulness. 3. ✅ 4. This was so impressive and one of the points that I thought would be hopeless to explain. Not only did you explain this very clearly, but you also conveyed the grey area of wish-granting that dragons can/do decide based on their personality. And you weren't even verbose. 5. ✅ 6. ✅ 7. ✅ Trying to explain consistency questions in stories that aren't addressed saves a lot of otherwise good stories from being dismissed, but sometimes it's like solving a puzzle. The entire production of Lost, for example, is a pretty tricky puzzle that left a lot of confused people disappointed. You basically solved a puzzle that had me stuck and saved me a lot of confused disengagement with this show. I rarely see thorough responses to long comments unless it's an argument and am pleasantly surprised. Thank you bunches.
Thank YOU for your thoughtful comments as well :) I love talking about dragon ball with people (I’m also a big fan of LOST, haha), and I enjoy examining the limits and rules (or lack thereof) in fictional worlds. I’m gonna use this 2 bucks to go buy a coffee and finish up my script for Dragon Ball Super’s wishes ❤️
I always wondered why not just "Bring all the Namekians that have been killed over the last month". The Namekian revival wish seems like bad phrasing being risky with the whole "Guru was second-hand killed by broken heart" and it also would've brought back Namekians that were killed by Vegeta
How the hell are people complaining about the dragon balls solving problems?? That's what they DO. (except for that axolotl dragon in the granola arc, that's just ridiculous.)
okay, so cheap retcons occuring off screen is ok because nostalgia but a well written, deeply lore-revealing, highly plot impactfull wish is bad because "Super is better than Z and I have nothing to complain so nostalgia, buu-huu" Checks in tbh, typucal noZtalfan argument
@@Cross-kd5xb No, the axolotl dragon is bad because it just puts an extremely overpowered dragon on this no-name world that only exists to make a new strong guy to fight goku.
@Skivv5 okay so, are you going to provide arguments or... because if you ask me "I will make you stronger but you have terminal cancer and 3 days left to live" is ENTIRE LEAGUES under "You are already the strongest in the planet, and I will now make you younger so you become even more unstopabble" and "yeah, you killed my people. No problem making you immortal lmao" in terms of being a ridiculously broken dragon. nostalfanZ are just allergic to objectively well written stuff lmao
Thanks!! I think the narrative considerations may have been weighed more heavily for or against some wishes than others (which is my own bias), but I intend to do Super wishes next, and I might make some adjustments based on viewer feedback
If I had to make a dragonballz wish I would wish for Coyote Cocktail to have themselves a nice tasty drink, a cocktail if you will. All in all, I just love cocktails, coyotes, and ballz
On an added note Krillin and 18 shows Krillin has grown in another way. He was ready to strike and kill Vegeta while he was down at the start of Z but now he has grown thanks to Goku's influence to give the bad guy a chance to change, to see the humanity in the villain, which Goku has continually done throughout all of Dragon Ball. In my eyes Dragon Ball has always been about Goku's infectious kindness almost every single character he meets starts out as an asshole but Goku is so overwhelmingly positive they can't help but grow to be better people around him, and Krillin's soft spot for the androids has always made me think of that cause even after he refuses to detonate 18 he takes 16 to Capsule Corp to be repaired despite everyone there telling him not to.
I’ve never thought about Dragon Ball from that perspective but I LOVE that reading of the series. We see the theme over and over again of bad guys becoming good guys, and I think it’s so cool to interpret that as a result of Goku’s influence :) I love this idea!! Thanks so much for your comment
Hahahaha yeah I’m a huge Yamcha fan and I do think I was a little hard on him… thankfully I plan on expanding this list with Super, GT, and the movies, so I will definitely update and revise some rankings as I go.
Cool list, but I do think you underrate King Piccolo's wish for youth quite a bit. He was convinced that he was the strongest being on earth at the time, so eternal youth is just a better immortality for him. And even if Shenron was superficially easily revived, Goku still needed to reach the lookout (something no one had done since Kami himself) and even then Kami needed to be convinced to reactivate the Dragon Balls. Additionally, it's worth pointing out that this is also the ONLY wish granted to a villain in the original series.
In hindsight, I agree. In my original draft of the video, I had that wish in the A Tier, and I ended up moving it down because I wanted to avoid my list being too top-heavy, and I was worried I was being too biased because it is one of my favorite moments of the series. But yes, you bring up excellent points, and Piccolo deserves more credit for actually getting his wish granted!! I plan on expanding this list with the wishes from Super, GT, and the movies, so I’m definitely going to be making some adjustments based on feedback like yours :) thank you for your thoughtful comment!
Read Diamond and Pearl Adventure!; it's got a lot of Dragon Ball influence to it. The Lucas expy grew up in the woods and goes on a journey with a scientific young woman to find a dragon.
The fact that Yamcha, Tien and Choutzu weren’t shown being wished back in the manga genuinely shocked me. I definitely need to read the dragon ball manga in its entirety.
Yep, just a text box 😭😭😭 I was so bummed out as a kid because I remember I missed the episode on television where the humans were wished back to life. I used to check out the manga volumes from my local library, and I was looking forward to learning who these characters were-I didn’t know much about Tien, Yamcha, and Chiatzu at the time. But I was one sad 8-year-old when i discovered you don’t even get to see it and suddenly freeza is already coming back to earth on like the next page lol
I didn't know Krillin's battle armor was repaired by porunga when he was brought back to life. I kinda miss that he stopped wearing it,he couldve used it again in the Cell Games considering that even Goku wore one at that time. It gave me that feeling that Krillin was the strongest human of the Z warriors(he probably still is but whatever)
I am a major Buu saga defender. I think the innovative things it did well outweigh the plot conveniences or holes that I tend to just handwave away when defending it, and that includes their use of the Dragon Balls. Also, I agree that the manga just pushes some plot points aside way too much. I respect that Toriyama had to go on a weekly basis, which is why I implore friends getting into the series to check out the anime (specifically Kai once they finish original Dragon Ball) since even Kai keeps in the parts of filler that expand the story, like the Dragon Team getting revived on screen.
I reread the Buu Saga to write this video, and I actually think I like it more than the Androids/Cell Saga! It balanced comedy and action in a way that Dragon Ball had not done for a very very long time. And after reading other viewers feedback, I misinterpreted Yamchas buu saga wish and it actually doesn’t deserve to be that low. When I upload my rankings on Super/GT, I plan to revise and adjust some wishes 🤔
Im sure you did but i have to ask, did you consider the first half of what porunga said? This is in line with how things went like two decades later with resurrection f. Frieza is a legit monster because he was fully alive and conscious when he was brought back. Krillion on the otherhand would have come back as bits here and there and tons of blood mist. I think bringing bim back in one piece is pretty big. Great consideration from the new dragon.
Yes, you make a great point! And tbh I did consider that, and in my original ranking, that wish was a B for that exact reason. However, I ultimately decided to make it a C mostly because I feel like a lot of tier lists tend to flock to the B tier, and I wanted to be more critical for some wishes when I could, to give the list some variety. In this case, I thought there was a decent argument for C, given how many times Krillin is revived. But yeah, you make an awesome point and I’m not sure yet how I’m going to rank the Super wishes when I incorporate them into this tier list. Im working on that script right now, so we will see how it goes :) Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment!
@CoyoteCocktail you're right. I was looking at it from a singular perspective, you were looking at it as a whole. The dragons may have wisher preferences and do some favors for them but they're still always brought back whole. Tien would be a one armed cyclops if not. Shenron just gave frieza the bare minimum. He was an exception. Can't wait to see more from you :D
Oh also removing the bombs is why 17 doesn't die trying to blow himself up during the Tournament of Power in the manga, so this wish eventually saves the multiverse.
This sorta emphasized a thought I've been having about the Z Arcs. In both Frieza and Buu, the climatic showdowns had a lot of moving parts. The fights being dragged out served more a purpose, because they were serving to buy more time while those not currently fighting put things in motion to ultimately secure the victory. On the other hand, with the climax of Cell, if you weren't actively fighting Cell, you were probably just standing off to the side, twiddling your thumbs. Granted, they were actually given time to prepare for that one, but it didn't really amount of anything.
This is a great point! The fight with Cell obviously has some cool moments, but overall it isn’t as exciting of a set piece as some of the other final fights. Honestly, I think I prefer the original fight against Vegeta more than the Cell Games.
The other aspect to the Bora wish is that it was the first serious wish in the series. Going from a pair of panties to a resurrection wish is a big jump and it was unknown at the time what limits the dragon had. It also gave a purpose to that whole collecting the Dragon Ball part of the RRA arc. Before that it's just Goku looking for his old ball. It is what gives the entire arc a set of stakes for Goku.
@@CoyoteCocktail Soo sad that I saw that this comment was posted two days ago because now I actually have to wait for that video! Good job on this one.
honestly, so much dragon ball "lore" is based on what Toriyama did or did not remember! lol but personally i like that--fictional worlds come together every time an author makes a decision, no matter what that decision is informed by, and with Dragon Ball we get a lot to talk about
I mean I think the second Yamcha wish you were hard on, those people would have stayed dead if not wished back, since they were killed by Vegeta not boo. Look at the Namekien villagers they are still dead cause everyone forgot about them. These people would be dead forever just like the android victims if yamcha didn’t do this wish. (Yes I get he needed it fixed but it still worked out. I am fine with it being a D, or a C just cause it’s super boring, but it is certainly not an F like the other one. This is an IMPORTANT distinction and not a super minor complaint in a comment that no one will read ; DDDD
This is a really great point!! I definitely got a little carried away with talking trash on my guy Yamcha. I definitely misinterpreted the circumstances a bit. Thank you for your comment! :)
this video bangs dude really great commentary funny overview and just overall well made video. i’m glad i found your channel and keep up the good work!
Yep!! I’m working on the Super tank right now :) I only read the manga once, as it came out, and I also haven’t seen the anime since release either, so I needed to refresh my memory. I’m also working on some pretty cool dragon ball scripts in addition to more wish ranks, but I’m keeping them under wraps for the time being!! Thank you for your comment ❤️
On the final wish with the Namekian Dragon Balls. I personally put that wish as an A at least. From the start of Goku and Freeza's fight, Goku was stuggling to actually fully focus on just fighting Freeza. At the start he gives a glance at Piccolo to get Krillin and Gohan away from them. And up until Goku goes Super Sayian, hes struggling to be properly motivated. Then when Parunga is back online Freeza plays chicken to try to steal the last wish. The entire time there is all of these outside influences and distractions that keep Goku from fully 100% fighting. And it isnt until every single person is gone from the planet can Goku finally humiliate Freeza.
I think this is a really great point! I wish I had considered it when I wrote the video 😅 I plan on also ranking Super’s wishes and the wishes from the movies, so I’ll definitely update rankings accordingly if I think there is good enough evidence to do so (in this case, I think there is!) One reason I was hesitant to rank some wishes too high is because I didn’t want the list to be too top-heavy in the S, A, and B range, which I think happens to many tier lists. However, your comment, and some comments from others, have made me realize that the original series may have just had amazing wishes!! Thank you for taking the time to respond :)
22:54 I love scenes like this, as in OG DB, especially during the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, Yamcha was like a big brother to goku and Krillin, so this is very in character for him!
Me too! The dynamic between Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha is so fun. A lot of people like to say that Yamcha was always a joke, but after the Fortune Teller Baba tournament, Yamcha tells Goku that he’s gonna train super hard, and Goku is very excited by the prospect!
Actually wish number 18 was to revive everything who died that day, which revived kibito which allowed him to save both Shin and Gohan, that wish was actually pretty important and Yamcha's wording kinda saved the day lol
Yeah, I realized I fumbled big time on this wish LOL. I plan on rectifying this and doing right by Yamcha when I release my next wish ranking for Super or the DB movies
don't beat yourself up, honestly I probably only remembered that cause I just rewatched a bunch of the buu saga to tide me over to daima's dub comes out, I should probably do a proper rewatch of the whole actual series (Not DBZA) since I didn't even remember a bunch of the stuff from namek lol, but thanks for the reply I usually feel like I'm screaming into the void with this kinda thing@@CoyoteCocktail 😁
Hahahaha well as someone who also feels that I am often screaming into the void, I appreciate your comment :) I’ll probably add a section at the end of my next ranking video where I adjust some rankings, and Yamcha will definitely be getting his credit
I don't even think oolong was wishing out of horniness. Up till then as he was running he was complaining about how his underwear was causing him to chafe, and as someone who has experienced the SUPREME DISCOMFORT of chafing, I'd be wishing the same XD
Yes, I totally misinterpreted Yamcha's wish tbh. I plan on correcting its ranking when I upload my ranking of Dragon Ball Super wishes :) but yeah, you're totally right
I relly think that yamcha wishing Vegetas victims back to life isn't that bad actually. It is short sighted but I think that's the point. It shows how the period of peace and the op fighters protecting earth made the characters feel like everything was perfect. That's how the arc was kicked off after all, just everything being like old times with a fun lil tournament. And while the readers were introduced to the threat the characters didn't realize how dangerous the situation was. I mean the fighters kept overestimating themselves in this arc. So while the wish is short sighted, especially in hindsight, in my opinion that's what the arc was about. I mean everything seeming so great was what made it even more absurd that a pink blob plunged everything into chaos.
Yeah, I totally agree after reading other comments about this wish. I just straight up misinterpreted it lol Vegeta wishes back everyone killed by Buu, so this would not have revived the people killed by Vegeta, who Yamcha was wishing back to life. And yes, as you said, Yamcha and the gang had no idea what the extent of the current conflict was. And if they hadn’t made this wish, Kibito would not have come back to life, who also has his own role to play in the story. All in all, not as bad as I thought 😅 I plan to adjust the rankings when I upload my video about Super
That video will be coming soon!! I didn’t want this one to run too long, so GT and Super will be incorporated into this list, and then I’m gonna make a separate list for the movies
Great vid. I only disagree with the Piccolo Daimaoh one, that's one of the most iconic and crucial moments of the whole series. None other villain got to make a wish ever again, until Zamasu (and it seems the trend will continue with Moro, Granolah, King Gomah...). And Shenron is killed. Like wtf. That has to be A tier at least.
Honestly, I think I agree. I had the wish in A Tier in my original script, and I talked myself out of it because I thought the list was a little too top-heavy, and I thought maybe I was biased because it was one of my fav moments of the whole series. However, I think you make an excellent point and tbh I think I would change it if I could 😅
Ok let's hop off Yamcha a bit I mean, he poorly worded some wishes sure but it's not like he was the one responsible for those people's deaths. He's trying his best out there, I feel like we should save this energy for the people responsible I mean during the tournament Vegeta ACTUALLY killed those people but not only does Vegeta NOT get told off same way Yamcha did, but we're actually PRAISING him!? And for why because he thought to wish people back before the conflict the conflict was over??? But for some reason when Yamcha wishes people back before the conflicts over, we're treating that like that's the fumble of the century?? I just think fair is fair it's not right to jump down Yamcha's throat because he didn't bring people back from the dead good enough but we don't have any words to reprimand the guy that actually killed those people. Vegeta also wanted to fight the androids too and he threatened Yamcha when he wanted to stop the androids from being made and Vegeta killed that truck driver too. I think someone's gotta stand up for Yamcha here this is crazy.
Hahahaha I love this comment!! And trust me, I think I might be the biggest Yamcha fan of all time. The reason I was a little hard on Yamcha was because I didn’t want my personal bias to affect the rankings too much… HOWEVER, after viewer feedback, I realized I completely misinterpreted Yamcha’s wish, and he actually did nothing wrong, because if he hadn’t make that wish in the Buu Saga, then Kibito would not have come back to life, which was necessary for teleporting Gohan to where he needed to go. So worry not, fellow Yamcha defender ❤️ I’m going to adjust the ranking when I release the rank for Dragon Ball Super. My interpretation of that wish was totally wrong, and I will be correcting it accordingly.
Oh yeah, AND I realized that Vegeta doesn’t actually rectify this wish later on! So again, big fumble on my part, and this will be fixed in Part 2 :) Thank you so much for your thoughts! I really loved your comment
@@CoyoteCocktail Lol I was kinda worried my comment was a little rude, so for that I apologize but I'm glad you liked it!! And yeah I just think fair is fair Yamcha was out there trying his best. Not a lot of people can watch as their girl get stolen by the space alien that helped kill him and his friends and yet still keep their chin up and have a positive attitude about it so I just think Yamcha's due a little respect once in a while.
Yeah Yamcha is a great guy. I’m always bummed that Krillin gets all the credit for being Goku’s best friend, while Yamcha and Goku have been boys since the beginning. Going into the 22nd tournament, Goku was really excited to see the results of the Yamcha’s training. Thanks again for your comment!! Hope to see you at the next dragon ball video
Then in Super, Sheng Long became Bulma's personal plastic surgeon. (And Vegeta's, probably. I wouldn't be surprised if Bulma "enhanced" him in some subtle ways without him realizing)
The end of Freeza Arc wishes only being a single panel in the manga is definitely a weird writing decision on Toriyama's part, though not necessarily because it was written poorly but interesting in what the focus was. In exchange for the Earthlings getting the short end of the stick, it seems to prioritize the impact of Trunks' introduction more than anything. The chapter ends on Freeza coming to Earth with his father, after all, making it seem like the threat of Freeza didn't really end at all and the arc could have continued further, only for the subversion of Trunks showing up to stomp the duo. I don't know, it depends on if you think a bad conclusion to the Freeza Arc is outweighed by a better build up to the Android/Cell Arc by concealing the arc shifting at all.
Typically I prefer the pace of the manga over the anime and don’t really mind when stuff gets breezed over. In fact, I’m not sure I could truly rewatch the original anime anymore due to the pacing. So I definitely agree with your point here, and I think it’s also worth noting, as always, the time constraints that Toriyama (and mangaka in general) are under. Toriyama always had to keep things moving, and his knack for pacing is truly wonderful. That said, I still think it would’ve been nice to get a LITTLE something, even if it’s just akin to the montage panels we got in the Piccolo Arc. I love seeing Dragon Ball characters interact outside of fights. And also… well, I wanted to give the list some variety 😜 Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! Hope to see you as the Super Rank here shortly :)
This is a good point! Honestly, that line was a holdover from an earlier script concept centered around whether or not the Dragon Balls are “lazy” plot devices, which analyzed the circumstances and outcomes of the wishes from a few different angles-a more argumentative video that ultimately became this one (and may still get finished down the line). So I wasn’t meaning to nitpick at it, but more so to acknowledge that this is a moment to note with regard to dragon ball “rules.”
Popo rug is faster than Nimbus. HE SHOULD HAVE FLOWN GOKU TO THE SAIYANS. Oh well. A redditor asked why they didn't use the dragonballs to revive the village Vegeta killed later since it has 11 people. Video is great. Would be interesting to get your takes on later wishes especially Cereal Dragon.
Thank you for your comment! I am definitely going to make another video about wishes from Super and the movies :) currently working on a couple dragon ball vids
Will Bulma wish for bigger buhzoombahs?!
God, I sure hope so

I've seen some videos that confirm she does at some point

Bora being brought back to life is extremely significant to the story, since it establishes that Shenron can, in fact, bring people back to life. Major ramifications for the future of the series. And by doing this with a minor character, it manages to set up future return to life wishes without it seeming cheap.
Totally agree.
I think this is interesting perspective! Krillen may of died and got rezzed 3 times but it was Bora who was rezzed first lol
Great point!! It’s also so nice seeing Upa and Bora’s reactions. Seeing one life restored has such a nice emotional impact 😭
Plus, it’s so heartwarming! Upa and Bora are just awesome; I love those two so much.
Bora's revival brought Krillin 5 revivals across all of DB/Z/Super/GT (That's definitely becoming 6 in Daima). That should be enough for A tier.
I appreciate you allow narrative weight to alter the ranking, instead of just "X wish is suboptimal".

Maybe he was was worried about something similar and wanted death as a emergency exit.
damn that’s actual a good point
True, I didn’t consider that he had been stuck in the rice cooker for quite a while. Also, maybe the guy just wanted to be young again!
Also his lifespan is pretty long already
I mean, he could have wished for eternal youth. That would have made him both youthful and slightly immortal (because he wouldn't have grown old).
Third: that wouldn't have returned his youth, which is what he really wanted
Got to love how one of the most silly wishes is the exact first wish, where shenron looked absolutely terrifying, anything could be wished for, and panties are the end result 😭
I loooove the artwork of shenron in the first wish
I always hated that goku had to run back on snake way once revived, but tien, Yamcha and puar was telepoted directly to earth
Lol this is such a good point! I want Yamcha to have to haul ass back to Earth
Has Chaioutzu really been relegated to as forgettable as Puar?
@@trailersforfun2669Don't be dissing my main guy Pu'ar. He was my third favorite character in the original series.
Puar fans rise up!!
@trailersforfun2669 I was high af when I wrote this and I'm ashamed that I got their names mixed up
When I first saw this video in my recommend I was worried it would just be a rather blunt description of all of them but you very pleasantly surprised me!
The Dragon Balls get a bad rap but when you truly look at the details, you see how necessary the wishes are, how they advance the plot, and how they even yes, in Yamcha's case, point out fallacies or a lack of strategy.
the yamcha sections were painful for me to write as a huge yamcha fan! but it could not be denied that my guy fumbled big time lol
Women who love anime should be the gold standard.
Right!! They also trained together for 3 years before the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, I’d argue they’re more best friends than Krillin and Goku
Yes exactly!! And I love that short sparring match we get to see between Krillin and Tien in a filler episode. I could watch stuff like that for hours
I have just realized with this video that king furry had gathered the dragon balls in the past
Omg
I love these rankings, great job
Thank you!! I’m glad you liked them. The Super wish rank is coming out soon!
3. ✅
4. This was so impressive and one of the points that I thought would be hopeless to explain. Not only did you explain this very clearly, but you also conveyed the grey area of wish-granting that dragons can/do decide based on their personality. And you weren't even verbose.

Trying to explain consistency questions in stories that aren't addressed saves a lot of otherwise good stories from being dismissed, but sometimes it's like solving a puzzle.
Oolong's wish is everything that made Dragon Ball timelessly great condensed into a single moment
21:00 he also specified "on earth" so king kai didnt come back either
I wish I would have mentioned this! It’s such a good point
Yamcha's VS. Vegeta's wishing skills explains a lot, why Bulma got together w. the Prince of all Saiyans
Just u wait until I upload my RUclips masterpiece about Yamcha and Bulma
absolute banger video, godspeed Oolong🫡
Really good perspectives and analysis of how these wishes helped shape characters and the story as a whole. Look forward to the next
You’ll love the next one if you liked this! Thanks for your comment
How the hell are people complaining about the dragon balls solving problems??
That's what they DO.
(except for that axolotl dragon in the granola arc, that's just ridiculous.)
lmaooooo
okay, so cheap retcons occuring off screen is ok because nostalgia but a well written, deeply lore-revealing, highly plot impactfull wish is bad because "Super is better than Z and I have nothing to complain so nostalgia, buu-huu"
Checks in tbh, typucal noZtalfan argument
Really enjoyed this video, the use of narrative implementation does wonders in terms of ranking :)
Thanks!! I think the narrative considerations may have been weighed more heavily for or against some wishes than others (which is my own bias), but I intend to do Super wishes next, and I might make some adjustments based on viewer feedback
Great video man. Was actually hooked and didnt realize it was a 35 min video!
Thank you so much!! I hope you’ll like the next one as well 😎
This was fire wtf
this comment touched my soul
How did the dragonballs come to be?
Are they the actual balls of dragons?
Let's just say that when a dragon's balls drop, shit gets crazy pretty quick.
Yes. No further questions.
If I had to make a dragonballz wish I would wish for Coyote Cocktail to have themselves a nice tasty drink, a cocktail if you will. All in all, I just love cocktails, coyotes, and ballz
th anks
A little unfair how you blame Yamcha for not properly cleaning up after Vegeta’s mistakes TWICE
Hahahaha yeah I’m a huge Yamcha fan and I do think I was a little hard on him… thankfully I plan on expanding this list with Super, GT, and the movies, so I will definitely update and revise some rankings as I go.
I love long videos like these. Even if i don't watch it in one go. I watch half or something and save it for later
Great video! Looking forward to more :)
Thank you so much! I’m cooking up a lot of fun Dragon Ball content right now-super excited!!
Another great video!!!
thanks march
Good video! Would definitely love to see more vids look this!
that's my plan!! currently cooking up a couple dragon ball scripts :) thank you very much!!
I wouldn't expect a selection of pokemon music to somehow fit a video about dragon ball but here we are
Well both are from my childhood so I like the double nostalgia
Read Diamond and Pearl Adventure!; it's got a lot of Dragon Ball influence to it. The Lucas expy grew up in the woods and goes on a journey with a scientific young woman to find a dragon.

Hope to see more Dragon Ball videoss
yes, more dragon ball vids on the way :) thank you!!

@@CoyoteCocktail yup
The fact that Yamcha, Tien and Choutzu weren’t shown being wished back in the manga genuinely shocked me. I definitely need to read the dragon ball manga in its entirety.
Yep, just a text box 😭😭😭
I was so bummed out as a kid because I remember I missed the episode on television where the humans were wished back to life.
Im working on that script right now, so we will see how it goes :)
Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment!
@CoyoteCocktail you're right.
I’m rereading Super right now to do a ranking video of those wishes-I’ll do my best to remember this when I get to the TOP :)
And then Whis is out here just booping people back to life.
Still waiting on a slice of life Whis series
Subbed. Excellent video
Thank you, orange crush! I think I will buy a bottle of you from the corner store tomorrow
You know, this is a great way to look at it! It gave Goku’s quest even more purpose. He got to change someone’s life forever
Dang glad my wish on the Dragonballs came true a new vid from the homie!
Thank you for the comment, Jimmy!! How are things going?
Pretty good dude just preppin for Christmas hope you're doing well too man!
I think it would be fun to look at the wishes made in side content like the movies/games/super/GT
That’s my plan!
@@CoyoteCocktail Soo sad that I saw that this comment was posted two days ago because now I actually have to wait for that video! Good job on this one.
I wonder if Toriyama just kind of forgot how strong he made Gohan in the Buu arc when he had Goku be the "only one who could beat Buu."
honestly, so much dragon ball "lore" is based on what Toriyama did or did not remember! lol
but personally i like that--fictional worlds come together every time an author makes a decision, no matter what that decision is informed by, and with Dragon Ball we get a lot to talk about
FINALLY COYOTE CONTENT!!!!!
finally a james comment :)
Nice video, I see great things in your future
thank you, andrew! i'm working on my next video now
I mean I think the second Yamcha wish you were hard on, those people would have stayed dead if not wished back, since they were killed by Vegeta not boo.
this video bangs dude really great commentary funny overview and just overall well made video. i’m glad i found your channel and keep up the good work!
thank you so much, Beepboop!! i'm working hard on getting another Dragon Ball video out as soon as i can.

Hahaha thank you for this comment :) it looks like we gathered some more likes after all!
Hopefully a video for GT, Super, the movies, and Daima (when the dragon balls are used again)
21:00 also King Kai, Yamcha couldve worded it to include everyone Cell blew up on King Kai's planet
I wish I had considered it when I wrote the video 😅 I plan on also ranking Super’s wishes and the wishes from the movies, so I’ll definitely update rankings accordingly if I think there is good enough evidence to do so (in this case, I think there is!)
One reason I was hesitant to rank some wishes too high is because I didn’t want the list to be too top-heavy in the S, A, and B range, which I think happens to many tier lists. However, your comment, and some comments from others, have made me realize that the original series may have just had amazing wishes!!
Thank you for taking the time to respond :)
Thank you for making a fun video!
@@CoyoteCocktail In my opinion the only F-Tier wishes were in Super, Movies, & Games.
This makes me exciting to rank the Super wishes! I am rereading the manga as we speak
Dragon Ball! Gotta find that Dragon Ball!
Don’t stop until you got'em all, the seven magic balls
It’s all you gotta do to have your wish come true!!
“ despite both the dragons and their balls being iconic pieces of imagery”🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
lmaoooo I was waiting for someone to appreciate it.
I find it wild that 18 literally saved her own life just by kissing a tiny bald guy. She didn't even know it would happen.
butterfly effect except with short guys
9:03 whats this song? Also nice vid! Bora/ the revival of Piccolos victims are probably my favorite wishes
thank you for your comment! the song is "Cell's Theme" from Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Battle. a really great soundtrack
2:57
What is this song? It's so familiar and I hear it in videos from time to time but I can never pinpoint where it's from and it's driving me crazy.
That is “Green Garden” from Bomberman 64. A really cool soundtrack! Check it out
Dang my guess was either Mario Party or Sonic.
I don't even think oolong was wishing out of horniness.
Up till then as he was running he was complaining about how his underwear was causing him to chafe, and as someone who has experienced the SUPREME DISCOMFORT of chafing, I'd be wishing the same XD
Lmaoooo great point
If I hadn’t already liked, I would have for the music at the end.
Hahaha, love this. Which song did it for you?
12:45 Squeeze a little more WHAT from WHERE!?
Will you do a similar video for Super?
Yep! That’s what I’m working on right now :)
will there be a part 2 for DBS and DBGT wishes?
Yes there will! I am currently drafting the script, along with a few other dragon ball videos :) this channel is about to pop with dragon ball vids
kabito comes back with Yamcha's wish in the Buu saga which is useful.
I just straight up misinterpreted it lol
Vegeta wishes back everyone killed by Buu, so this would not have revived the people killed by Vegeta, who Yamcha was wishing back to life.
I would have liked if you also ranked the wishes made both in GT and in Super as well, I feel that both have some interesting wishes made.
That video will be coming soon!! I didn’t want this one to run too long, so GT and Super will be incorporated into this list, and then I’m gonna make a separate list for the movies
What is the music that’s playing when you’re talking about Vegeta’s wish in the buu saga to restore earth?
That is “Fortitude Indomitable Spirit” from Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 :) amazing soundtrack. I used a few tracks from it in this vid
However, I think you make an excellent point and tbh I think I would change it if I could 😅
I used to Dragon Balls to wish for more Coyote Cocktail videos!
Marcovarius!! Good to see you, bud :)
the bbl wish is the best wish
Lmaoooo
love this! i hope you do the movies and super
That’s the plan! :) thanks for your comment
The reason I was a little hard on Yamcha was because I didn’t want my personal bias to affect the rankings too much…
HOWEVER, after viewer feedback, I realized I completely misinterpreted Yamcha’s wish, and he actually did nothing wrong, because if he hadn’t make that wish in the Buu Saga, then Kibito would not have come back to life, which was necessary for teleporting Gohan to where he needed to go.
So again, big fumble on my part, and this will be fixed in Part 2 :)
Thank you so much for your thoughts!
I wouldn't be surprised if Bulma "enhanced" him in some subtle ways without him realizing)
hahahaha omg, just Bulma gradually increasing vegetas height 😭
She might be more of a girth gal 🤷.
@@CoyoteCocktailYeah. Height. Sure.
doing the wishes for the movies and gt and super would be a nice followup. how well are the wishes when they are compared to the og series?
that's going to be my plan! i am actually sitting on my couch right now and watching Dead Zone :)
6:18 is that the damn legacy of goku soundtrack lmao
hahaha yes!! good ear
And also… well, I wanted to give the list some variety 😜
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! Hope to see you as the Super Rank here shortly :)
Oolong's wish in number 1
agreed, oolong is the man. Well, the pig. But he’s the man, too.
I thought you were a dragon ball tuber wtf 😂 you should make more
I’m working on more as we speak!! Thanks for your comment :)
The Guru revival needs no eyebrow raising. There's a lengthy conversation hypothesising that it could be possible and then it turns out to be right.
Would you do a ranking of the non toriyama wishes
Yes! I’m working on Super and GT next (and also the movies)
