Russia would be a great setting for a Max Payne game since it would look more similar to Remedy's original settings. But then I'm happy that we got Brazil, since I'm brazilian and we don't have enough representation in media (thanks Rockstar).
@@olzhas1one755 Nah, Cod never really had good Russian representation, the closest thing we have of that are the first few Cods that had Russian Campaigns. Otherwise its been boiled down to Rambo enemies and ultra nationalists.
That would be an interesting setting. First thing that comes to my mind is cutting some ties with Vladimir Lem's remnants in Russia but we won't know anymore. Wondering if there was something more to these 4 concept arts (e.g pre-pre-alpha build or something, perhaps on MP2 engine as a placeholder)
If the story was simlar, the angel could be in the role of the criminal mastermind like victor and the butcher could be a important henchman or the actual organ harvester.
If they stuck with the organ harvesting story, that's actually what I was thinking of, too. Boris could maybe be like Wilson Da Silva, a detective ally. The butcher? I could totally see him being like the plastic surgeon from Max Payne 3.
I mean if you think about apart from the favela and the river docks places like abandoned hotel, airport, offices etc are there in russia so maybe it could work
Actually, main production of the game was moved to Rockstar Vancouver. The game was referred to as a Rockstar Vancouver game all the way up to the marketing push for the game - then it became referred to as a Rockstar Studios production. Likely because they planned to close the studio after the release of the game.
I didn’t get to play the original Max Payne until a few years ago on PS4 and I’m disappointed that the second game hasn’t been put up on the PS4 store and neither has the third game. I’d really like to play both games.
The two sequels are both really good games, and it's a shame that they never brought them to the PS4 (just like how GTA IV and Vice City Stories are also not available for PS4). If you have an older console or if you have a PC that can handle games, I'd highly recommend buying Max Payne 2 and 3 for it.
Badger Goodger I have a PS2 but someone decided to fuck around with the TV and now no external things can be connected to it. I seen ages ago that Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories and Max Payne 2 were put up for ratings for the PS4 but obviously nothing came from it. Also VCS sucks LCS is the better prequel lol
@@BadgerGoodger theirs no GTA IV at PS4 store???? all i know theirs 1st Max Payne, Warriors, Red Dead Revolver and GTA III, GTA Vice City, San Andreas such others sadly and yeah i am pissed off theirs no Max Payne 2 or 3 or True Crime or any of Silent Hill games

Russia would be a great place for the story. I mean, it would fit perfectly. Somehow the first game even kinda reminded me of Russia, just by looking at this old concrete houses, the bandits with their really kinda Eastern European faces. This was the vibe that gave me allready this kinda Eastern European harsh atmosphere. After the Death of Vlad there could be something like a distant cousin of Vlad or Brother in Russia running a big mafia with many different bosses like in the first game. Over it maybe another Organization of a secret society, something like that. That would be cool... All this with modern graphics. It would be a journey I wouldn´t forget. It could catch all the vibes of the old movies like "Brigada" or "Brat". That´s actually what I wish to happen someday. But for best atmosphere it should have happen around the 90´s too. Something, like an alternative version of the story.
I mean 1st game had it's noir, gothic 2000's style of america or world. So did 2nd game but I wish Max payne 3 did take place in slavic country that also had grittiness of 2000's america.
@@weplo1597 Yea. The third game has a great engine but the setting in Brazil is kinda off to me, does not fit in the slightest to Max Payne, maybe in another universe but not the old one.
TBH I think they had a pretty good opportunity to make a grimmer setting similar to the first two games in São Paulo. It's nationally nicknamed "drizzleland", "concrete jungle", etc., and for good reasons. I feel like they kinda assimilated the setting to Rio de Janeiro with all the daytime crime and favelas.
Man, MP3 is not at all a bad game, and the story is pretty decent really. The graphics still hold up well on PC maxed out for sure... but yet, three times in life I have tried to buckle down and beat the game, and three times I've gotten relatively the same way through, and just dropped off with all interest in it. Not sure if it's always external things like new, maybe better games taking attention away. Or if maybe it really does just hit a point where it gets so stale I just can't keep going with it. Guess I'll have to give it a fourth go and see what happens.
I feel similar, it kinda slows down in the middle and drags on a bit. But the ending is amazing, don't know how far you got so I don't want to spoil it, but the shootout right before the ending is most hyped I ever felt in a game.
I can definitely see the Russian setting really being the proper place for the third instalment since it would segway pretty well from MP2, would i have preferred this setting over the one we got in Brazil? Most definitely. But we got a banger multiplayer mode in MP3 so i cant say or complain. (PLEASEPLASEPLASE BRING BACK MULTIPLAYER IN THE REMASTERS)
Literally keep Healths tracks Dead and Tears while in the Russia setting while it poors rain. Headlights from oncoming vehicles blind you as you have a fire fight in the middle of the streets of Moscow or St. Peters
03:56 I live in São Paulo and I remember I read some news in the local media back in 2007, about Rockstar devs visiting my city to take pictures, visit some places and do some local research. Back then, GTA IV was just announced and we speculated this was for a GTA V, and we joked about how we're supposed to do missions in a city that has traffic jams 24/7.
The game's story is so boring and uninspired imo, the basis of the plot is not that deep or compelling, the main villain barely has screen time and has no character development, so you don't care at all about him and could give two shits when you kill him at the end, the game doesn't give a satisfying conclusion at all to the franchise, and the portraying of Brazil is really bad and not realistic at all (coming from a Brazilian btw). The game lost all of it's charm from the previous ones, and it's ok if Rockstar they wanted to change the atmosphere of the game, but in my opinion what they went for wasn't that interesting. The rest of the game is really good, but the plot was very underwhelming to me
Exactly, that is what I had a problem with. I loved Max Payne 1 and 2. Max Payne 3 was actually a very good game gameplay wise and such, but from a story and atmospheric perspective it was just not it. You had immense build up before revealing your main antagonists in both Max Payne 1 and 2, and killing them felt rather personal. In Max Payne 3 the story was... meh. I really did not care for the antagonist at all. The only fun I had in the game was its gameplay. The story was.. too GTA'esque.
At this point, Rockstar has completely butchered the Max Payne story. They are better off making a prequel to when he was in the NYPD working with Alex Balder.
The prequel wouldn't be as painful for fans as the third game could be, as it could easily be kicked out of canon. Though it's easy to dismiss the third game as non-canon at any time...
I wanted Max Payne 3 to be more open world like GTA. Also i still want a Punisher Game that does Ol' Frank Castle right... Living in the sewers emerging at night to kick ass and kill mob bosses... Come to think of it a Dark TMNT would work well like that too...
I enjoyed it as a third person shooter and as its own thing, but I really wasn't a big fan of the setting where a Max Payne sequel takes place in a tropical rundown country of Brazil. It doesn't fit the philosophy of the first two games and it's more in line of a Michael Mann action thriller about the downfalls of society rather than film noire that works as a psychological character study. I mean, sure, Max Payne has reached the bottom of the barrel and received an epiphany in the third game, but it feels like he wasn't the main focus of the plot rather than bumping into centre stage at the wrong place in a wrong time because it really feels like the game was more about the social-political issues of Brazil and not Max as the character. Honestly, it really feels so close in line with GTA games when it comes to writing and characters. That sarcastic socio-political commentary GTA is known for. It feels like a creative decision coming from Rockstar's main branch. Even the soundtrack feels like a GTA game. Russia setting would have made more sense in my opinion since Max had confrontations with the Russians and might have expanded the ties of the Russian mafia in interesting ways. The darkgrim and cold Russian atmosphere would have probably fitted better with Max Payne instead of sunny tropical one with him being more of a miserable drunk cynic that's being pushed around like a laughing stock who decided to cleans-have his head like Alan Garner in Hangover 2. He isn't even a stoic in the third game. Max Payne 3 would have worked as its own thing in my opinion. Solid shooter with a solid writing, but as a Max Payne game, it doesn't add much to the first two games, it lacks the neo noire atmosphere, the narrative isn't as sophisticated and interesting as the first two were and it's bit too scripted for my liking. I don't know, first two Max Payne games have left me more of a satisfying feeling after beating them than Max Payne 3 did. When I beat Max Payne 3, it gave me an ''eh'' kind of vibe. Maybe because MP1&2 had more of an interesting lore and world building.
I can only agree. The harsh atmosphere somewhere in Russia would be a better choice. Striking through dark streets between Eastern European concrete houses. This would be amazing.
If they really wanted a Max Payne 4, they can reuse the Russia setting. Have one of Vladimir Lem's relatives track him down and attempt to liquidate him, while he's chilling down in Sao Paulo, thinking everything is done.
