    Just had a drive home in my 170hp x-flow Seven from the M23 to the M25, good fun through the Dartford tunnel greta noise and Jets of flame from the exhaust on the downshifts, the best bit was that I was only doing between 40 and 50mph so they are enjoyable to drive even at low speed.

    Fab video. We have just bought our first Caterham (second hand and being rebuilt at the mo - delivery in 4 weeks time!) hence bashing through RUclips for videos etc. This is easily one of the best out there for understanding the day to day stuff. Half hood ordered for ours ... just need to get out there now.

    Brilliant video Bex! One of my comments on one of your videos a long time ago I think I suggested a hoot in a Caterham on the track, it's great that you did a week as a daily driver and shared your experience. I have been fortunate to be a passenger in one around Donnington Park track and had the chance to drive one on the road many years ago. Like you I love them. They may be built to a style long gone but the raw feeling of driving such a little 'motoring dart' on the roads is a cherished memory for me. Seeing this video has ignited my want for one if only I had the room to park it and maintain it. Thanks again with proving that you can actually carry a passenger and a take away meal. And praise to your mum as well for taking part as well.

    I have a 1700 cross flow with 135 bhp. It is still fun after twenty five years and I could sell it for what I paid for it. An every day car, no way, if in doubt try and put the roof up in a hurry! Try driving one in ice or snow, even rain makes me think twice. Cross flows prove that you don't have to spend a fortune to enjoy a 7.

      Driving a Seven in the rain is fun. Snow, not so much, I mean for the car, salted roads would eat the chassis.
      As long as you are moving, driving top down in the rain is ok. Just get an umbrella for the red lights 😉

    New subscriber Bex, great video. You're brave going on a motorway in something so small, much more suited to doughnuts in that trading estate and a track 😂. Can't believe they couldn't figure out a better roof in this tech world. Caterham have joined up with Aston Martin dealerships, there's one right near me in Walton on Thames,, a test drive is on the cards! 👍

      There is a wider model (SV) that could suit you! I'm not saying it will be elegant to get in and out of the car, but it's worth the fun 100% ;-)

    How easy is it to do slides in the corners if you want to on the 170 compared to the more powerful models? Do you think you would prefer the non-R suspension for road use? I really think I need to test drive one of these and a Lotus. The problem with these luxury 'sports cars' like BMWs, Porsches, Jaguar etc is that they're so insulated, refined and capable that they just end up feeling like a boring cruisy luxury car. That said I have sat in a Caterham and it was such a tight squeeze and very uncomfortable. I also don't really like the interior on lotus cars for the price. I'm going to have to make a compromise somewhere though as there's nothing really in between. I guess there's the MX-5 which I do like quite a bit. Have you tried the large body Caterham's?

    • @DrivingBex
      @DrivingBex  2 года назад +1

      You have to work the 170 to slide in dry conditions but it is easily doable thanks to the skinny tyres. It all depends on your preferences! The Caterham is more raw than a Lotus (see the Lotus V Caterham video) but they are still a lot rawer than say your luxury sports cars

    I brought an ev around Christmas time just to be cheap due to the fuelcrisis In the uk but if that wasn’t an issue I really would have brought the 170r I’m really curious what mpg you managed to get as if it does get anywhere near the claimed 60mpg I think I’d have to bite the bullet and get one

      That what I thought. As a student I rode a 2 stroke DT125 all year round and you just adjust the clothing to suit the weather. I really have to scratch the itch with one of these cars. I'm turning 50 in 6 months and have loved them since I was mid teens.

    • @robertwillis4061
      @robertwillis4061 2 года назад

      They are more useable than a bike. You can have a passenger. Ok so can a bike but in wet weather - do they have the correct clothing? You can get a decent amount of shopping in a Caterham. Ok so can a bike - needs panniers etc. You have a heater ( optional ). Safer in wet weather.

      Our family had a 1964 Corvair Monza (110hp) convertible and when I was driving it, any day it was over 60 degrees, the roof went down.
      Years later I had a 1972 MGB (I had painted BRG). ;-)

      Better than you realise. The boot isn't that tiny and the passengers seat is there also. I have a Robin Hood Exmo kit car. Similar design to Caterham. I can get a fair amount of stuff in my boot.
      Went on holiday with my wife, a few years ago. We had 2 sports bags and 4 ruck sacks in the back.

      Before ULEZ restricted my driving in outer London I could pick up a week's shopping for three in my Seven, even with a passenger aboard. My Wife and I used it as a holiday car - luggage for two for one or two weeks was no problem with the addition of a Softbits EBag that sits on top of the boot.
