RUclips, discord, and reddit are the only social media I have an account for. Used to have a myspace back in the day before that platform basically died

Welcome to the club Muta. This was definitely the right decision to make. I quit Twitter right when PewDiePie also quit because I knew it's not good for mental health. And at this time, PewDiePie was also not well mentally but I'm so happy that he is now.
Definetly chose like 1 or 2 at most and then delete everything else. Yes, prob won’t’ be updated with trends and stupid news.. but I’m ok with that.. and honestly muta seems so much more relaxed
I never made one because I sensed that website was dogshit from the beginning and mainly I wanted to for pewds cause I had been watching him since I was a child but I can proudly say never downloaded it even made a twitter account
I started using Twitter so I could be up to date with the news and had the worst depression I think I've ever had. One day I just up and left and after about a week I was maybe that happiest I'd been in years
same with snapchat and discord they dont really feel it since its mostly chat with friends and you cant reallly intreact with anyone that doesnt either know your username or just happens to guess
Actually, in a way, Twitch could be considered "social media" of sorts, since it almost seems like the streamer's socializing with chat, and chatting his/her mind in the process.
Because RUclips is basically want you to keep watching things that interest you, but Twitter want you to have reactions about a tweet (generally controversial ones) so you can keep using.
I also deleted my Facebook account when I was in college. At the time, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, and I was working a part-time job. Seeing my friends get into great universities and be successful on Facebook every day was making me depressed. Deleting Facebook was one of the best things I did. It stopped me from comparing myself to others every day and allowed me to go at my own pace.
Same I deleted Instagram and Snapchat as I don't want to know what the world is up to and I can focus on my self and there is no need to check or telling the peers what you are up to
You don't realize how much it would benefit you until you do it yourself. No outside opinions and unnecessary banter from people you will never meet in your life. Just relatively simple living.
Ignorance is bliss. Like actual bliss. I see some drama video and think "you know what, I don't care." I don't use twitter or anything of the sort because I just don't care what's on there and man, it feels good. It feels good to not care.
I haven't cared about drama in years Like even the beast stuff makes me a little disappointed and I do wish the best for those affected but I don't really care
agreed. i wouldnt even call youtube social media tbh. its not focused on "socializing" at all. yes there is comment sections, but thats like saying going to the movies is the same as a club or bar. we are here to watch stuff, and be entertained/learn something, not to make friends.
In all my years I was on this planet (30) this is the worst I have seen of extreme vitriol of opposing viewpoints enforced by the upcoming election, celebrity/influencer scandals, UK riots, two ongoing wars, etc. It sucks, it feels like we regressed as a society and were one big event away from a ww3. It's scary.
My biggest gripe with social media is being forcefed content I don't want to see. If I just saw my friends and people I follow it would be a much nicer place to be
The Creepy Black video bombed? That's unfortunate, but I can assure those of us who saw it were very grateful. Thank you for not being a slop channel, Muta.
The problem I find with people on social media is that they take it way too serious and they are addicted to it. I see it in my parents, one notification and they immediately have to check it even if they are driving and every time the notification is not important
I’ve deleted every social media/message app (except RUclips) and it’s been one of the best changes I’ve made recently. I finally have that extra time consistently for gym, cooking, and learning. Highly recommend
"It's like you're just sticking your head in the sand and ignoring it." I mean yeah, because that's correct? Had the same thoughts with X recently. All I see is youtuber/streamer drama and people going off about how X is doing Y with Z and it's this huge thing, but then at a quick step back, I'm like "Why should I spend my time and energy being mad at this when I could be spending it just chilling solo or with friends being happy?" Good decision, man.
The turning point for me that made me drop twitter was when I was on a weekend doomscrolling till 4 am then I've realised I could have spent all this time playing something instead
I personally just am tired and sick of everything negative irl and online.. i would rather ignore everything that does not involve my personal life.. main reason being is because i grew up in many situations thats either a negative situation or traumatic situation or a mix of both which caused me to cut off my own feelings just to stay sane and i am done with that nonsense.. it only causes me to be unhappy and negative and most of all.. bitter AF! for the sake of my own mental health i am just going to try and stay far away from stuff that bums me out.. life is too short to be negative 24/7 and i desperately want to stop all the negative stuff thats happening in my life
I see an innate difference between youtube and twitter/all the other ones. The purpose of youtube is making content. you dont "chat" on youtube. You watch and publish videos and coment on videos. But there's no "youtube posts and dm's" in the way there is on like facebook. It's not focused on "social media and connection" it's focused on content creation and making communities. Calling them both social media to me is a bit disingenuous in the same way that calling discord social media is. It's inherently different. Discord is a messaging app. It's meant for real time communication in a community of gamers(the original intent) It's really more of a group chat. IT's just that your group chat gets very very big. But its not inherently focused as "social media" is. In fact its not really made for that and using it like that is harder and requires setup. I use discord for my friend group. We all play games, chill in vc. Make offensive memes. And share news with eachother. But we arent posting like its facebook you know. In my dumbass opinion something like discord is "healthy" social media because its not posting something and sitting around waiting for engagement points for dopamine. It's having a group of friends your connected too and communicating with them. It eliminates distance as a limiter to maintaining a relationship with your friends. I have a friend who lives in australia. I'm in canada. suffice to say I dont see him much. But. We talk all the time and hang out and play games. Versus facebook or twitter where its relaly just unhealthy. The point is to get you on there. Get you hooked to seeing likes on your posts, and make you scroll through other people who you don't know's feeds so you spend time looking at more and more ads on the side. It's there to take away from you and your relationships. to get in the way of that. Anyway yea good on you muta. I never use "social media" like twitter and facebook. It's just there to disrupt my friendships and insert itself into my social life. I'll use discord though to talk and shitpost with my friends in realtime when we cant hang out.
Discord is nice, its where people with very specific interests can gather, chat, and share information so its very useful when used in that manner. Basically a more evolved hybrid of forums and IRCs
Know what? It did. Many migrated to Threads and Bluesky but most just gave it up, and this two platforms are not the same septic tank Twitter is, taking in account the algorithm. I have personally been noticing a lot less inflamatory content in other social platforms overall. There's no "stupid argument" of the week, nobody's being canceled (or if someone are, i'm really not aware). People from opposite political spectrums, despite still hating each other, seem to have gathered together against a common problem we're facing (online bet apps) instead of being contrarians, pointing fingers or outright trying to profit off the issue. There's only to gain.
@@Texugodelamancha idk about that. I used to post some digital drawing i do on Threads and once X was banned here, a lot of bs posts i used to see on X started popping off on Threads with people talking about celeb gossip and crap like that. I don't really care enough to try and filter the content i see so i just don't use it anymore. Bluesky is too obnoxious to use. The thing that made twiiter fun was how easy and accessible it was. I still use X via VPN but only for gaming news since it became a cesspool of engagement farming
I respect Mutah's decision, but for me I it feels like watching reality tv and I do find joy learning about some tea that has been happening especially this year, a lot of it is depressing but I would say is it's not as depressing as what I feel in my real life, I even lost a couple of people this year and I guess with all the drama, the retiring, graduation etc, I guess I lost a couple of people I love online as well, real life and online life has been pretty depressing, but I'm not letting go of any of these.
Literally everyone I watch, is uploading less, Jerma985 retired, Cr1tikal has been taking a few steps back ina few areas online... this is the yewr of retired RUclipsrs I guess... I personally don't mind that they do that, but at the same time, there's no other channels I respect as much as these, that are tried and true to their creator's vision.. However if Muta's going back to his creepypasta roots, I'm all for it!! I'd Literally at least have Muta, Isaiah of Wendigoon, and Hunter of Meat Canyon to watch occasionally still.
Retiring? are you this slow? its called they are taking a break for their mental health and just do youtube here and there. but they are still uploading ALL THE TIME. did you not get the whole point of this video? people are getting rid of certain things social media wise for their MENTAL HEALTH. taking a small break or just not uploading EVERYDAY. thats fine with me considering its for their mental health. and they will never retire bud, its their income and life. they will still be streaming when they are 50-60s. guaranteed.
You do you Muta! You're one of the few authentic content creators left that I can always watch and never roll my eyes at! Keep it up man! And yeah, on that note I also BARELY even touch my phone anymore.. Social media is just a pathetic, depressing waste of time these days.
Good for you Muta! I also have started to fall off from Twitter. Initially I set up a one hour limit on Twitter, to eventually not opening them at all for days, and now weeks. It feels liberating. Every time I go on Twitter now it feels suffocating bc I feel like I'm missing out on a lot. Now I'm free. I watch RUclips, play games and do my things. Best improvement ever.
“The best decision I’ve ever made…” I’m just hoping that it would never come to papa muta quitting RUclips in far future; I know that he’s said that he will always work for safe-being of yt community, but given the site’s status right now…
this video resonates with me a lot, as in i've tried to quit social media (except for youtube) for 4 months now, it was hard because a lot of my friends only communicate with me through those social media. Although that aside, my life have been changed for the better, less scrolling and less toxicity. Its nice hearing from you talking abt quitting social media honestly
Haven't touched Social Media in years and am 100% happier for it. Glad to see more folks jumping off that train. Side note, RUclips is only akin to a social media site for creators who use the community features. I guess by the strictest legal definition it counts as one but if you skip over the community features like most do then it's basically just a fancy TV app.
My Quality of life went WAY up when I got rid of Twitter and FB. I never had a twitter, instagram, or Tiktok. At this point I have no social media and only use YT. And it's been great.
Remember that social media conditions you feel like you need it. The first few days will be rough, but once you realize how happy you are without it, you'll wonder why you didn't quit sooner.
What's helped me is the Firefox extension "Block Site". You can set it up to completely block any website for certain days of the week, I think also a time limit, or just completely block it for good.
Glad to see a lot of us following the same path. It was my older friend that inspired me, about six years ago, to get off social media, delete it all completely, and live a simple life. In that time, I've never been happier. Social media is designed to show you things that upset you so you'll stay on longer.
I cut all my social media (sans RUclips) a few months ago and it was the best decision I could have made. If anything, it allows me to better pace myself when it comes to news and I spend more time purposefully seeking out information rather than being fed by algorithms. Glad to hear that you've found some success too. I sometimes wonder whether or not social media will die off someday because it seems to me that more and more people are frustrated by it.
Keeping a timer that tracks your social media usage will seriously make you reconsider what you're doing with your life, because some people are spending just about every waking hour that isn't devoted to their job, their families and other obligations on social media. It should be considered absurd to see more than an hour of social media usage throughout the course of a single day. That's a whole hour, and that's on the light end of the spectrum. Seeing people whose social media usage is 5-6 hours a day is just depressing. How do you literally feel comfortable doing nothing but scroll all day? Even if your excuse is that you feel tired and stressed, I bet you didn't know that the reason you're feeling tired and stressed is because you've sedated yourself so much with social media that even simple, everyday activities like going for a walk or running errands or just doing a small workout become immensely demanding for you because you're starting them from a "standstill" because you're so physically immobilized while scrolling. The saying about objects at rest and motion are true; keep yourself in action throughout the day and you'll power through. Start shutting down early by taking a social media "break" and you'll have to fight the brain fog and exhaustion to get back into it.
My favorite video on this channel in recent memory is that "Creepyblack" Haunted gaming vid. can't get enough of the roots of this channel that i've watched for a dozen years.
It's completely understandable social media is toxic if you overconsume, like everything is, its smart to decompress and remove things that overcloud judgement, or even sanity. keep making what brings your life peace and not war. love your content man you keep it 100% every single time. keep going muta you got this.
I don’t even know how I ever discovered your videos because I purposely have my RUclips history disabled. I REALLY enjoy finding you by accident. Twitter is a cesspool run by an utter jerk. I don’t blame you. We need to protect our sanity. The “free money glitch” was the straw that broke the camels back for me. Like I always knew we were getting more and more stupid because of social media but holy shite!!
Quitting social media (other that RUclips and Snapchat, the latter of which is limited to close friends) is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. It took me two years of replacing Reddit, Facebook and Twitter with each other out of fear I was missing something important. I’ve been off all socials for about two months now and I already feel more at ease and less distracted.
It is a great thing to have control to be able to disconnect from social media. This addiction is something to take note of. It is healthy and good to see you care enough for yourself to take that step. Some can't even conceive the idea to take a step away or an understanding what it truly does to mental health and actual relationships around them.
Just want to share my experience using Twitter ( i refuse to call it X). I know this might sound strange, but i just started actively using twitter from around 1-2 years ago and i think it's pretty fun. I only view, follows and like indie game developers, concept artists, animators and toy studio. And since then, it's been my best go to social media to discover hidden gems for arts and games. Ai art occasionally pops up but i can simply block the account or ignore it. I'm sure it's true that it can be the most toxic social media out there, but it all boils down to how we tell the algorithm what we would like to see. I don't even follow topics and discussions in my country, since i think it's pointless to know all the depressing stuff you can't change. My feed only contains what i would like to see, so far.
How sad is it that before even clicking on the video, I guessed from the title alone that it would be about leaving social media. I remember a couple years ago when I was using Twitter daily, my mental health was at the lowest it's ever been. In about a month after leaving that platform cold turkey, I was back to a normal state and my mental health has only been improving since. I cannot imagine how bad it must be nowadays with the reported algorithm changes prioritizing rage bait to maximize user retention. Leaving social media really is the best decision one can make.
I read the title, "best decision i've ever made" and my very first thought was "what, are you leaving social networks?" lmao I've deleted all of my social network accounts a while back, a year or so before Covid. And for the very same reason: to keep my sanity. Way to go, man! o/
This is what I’m talking about. Social media causes me so much stress that I try to avoid them. The only time that I ever go on Twitter is for very specific things like updates on certain games for instance. I avoid everything else because it’s a toxic cesspool. I have anxiety so all this crap is stressful for me. Update: I also don’t post comments on those sites, I just want to be a silent bystander.
I never understood people who are addicted to social media or act like they are addicted or something and say they stopped using it(only Rosie O'Donnell)
I feel this , while i didnt deactivate my facebook, i havent used it for a good 5 plus years now, and its one of the best things ive ever done. I feel so much better mentally for it.
I had Facebook when it was new, and that was all the time I needed with social media to know I never want to engage with it or the people on it and it's only gotten more and more extreme as time has gone by. I couldn't be happier not engaging with it. RUclips for the most part, has less of a negative bias when it comes to actual community posts made by creators. The few times I've seen someone start a fuss in the comments of a video, they pretty quickly get shutdown.
Honestly, as a person(somewhat) trying to be a content creator. I haven't touched social media a whole lot, like yes I have a twitter, though only to see what the fuck is going on in the world. I don't comment much on people's things and I usually spend my days playing games on my phone or spending time with my partners. It's helped me keep a level head to that I know my actual job and bills are on the top of my worries and not what people think of me on the internet. Most social media platforms are a scurge, just gotta filter through the shit half the time while still being knowledgeable about what is going on.
Just automate your videos as posts to the other social media accounts. Like a true Linux user. Funnel the people here from those platforms without even opening those platforms.
I got rid of all social media in 2023 other than fb for fam but even then, I stopped swiping thru fb years before i became a social media hater. My mental health and attention span have recovered tenfold.
I miss when this channel used to be about games, creepy pastas, and horror game playthroughs. The post-creepy era has just been a milk toast commentary channel.
Even though I don't consider RUclips social media I do love your content overall. I usually skip the more drama related content but love things you do with Nexpo and dark net stuff!
Yeah, I get it man. Sometimes you got to detox from social media. I've detoxed from hatebook since 2017, and the only one I use as social media is twitter, but I'm not there every day, and I Have curated it like crazy and blocked words (like politics, elections etc), so I only get gaming stuff (mostly news and positive sentiment), film & tv series and anime.
@@FIRE-LOTUS Long story short, Nuxtaku’s been on some freak anime gooner and loli pron defending type shit since forever but when people only now decided to pay attention after it was revealed Nux planned to platform Shadman to “meme” on him, people asked Muta about it and about Nux being his friend/fellow podcast member. Muta originally claimed the podcast was finished bc of the Nux and Shad situation, then backtracked and said they actually did go through with the final podcast episode and that he and Nux are “good friends behind the scenes”. I just find it way too convenient that as soon as people starting asking him about this he privates and deletes everything off his twitter :/
i deleted everything but youtube and tiktok (which i rarely use but keep for my boyfriend and i to send silly cat videos and date spots to each other on) sometime last year and it has been the best thing for my mental health. I got back into old hobbies I was struggling to enjoy as before I was just doomscrolling for hours with no motivation and I can honestly say I’ll never redownload them. Admittedly, the first maybe 2 weeks were hard, but after those initial few weeks being off social media for the first time in years, I have no desire to rejoin the chaos and constant comparisons and negativity etc etc. It’s not for everyone, some people just choose to live their lives through social media and that’s just their choice, but I definitely recommend dropping socials if you’re considering it !
I stopped using social media in 2011. I just got tired of trying to keep up with everybody who didn't actually want to be friends, but wanted to be seen as a nice person for being your friend on Facebook. Definitely an easy choice to stick with.
I love your perspective at the beginning about the “job.” We see that over and over again when a creator comes forward and shares how miserable they were recently or in the past. It’s such a vicious cycle. I made a handful of videos for my students in the weeks following the big shutdown. So I got a chance to see the metrics, see the backend. I would have to stay out and unsubscribe. Because that shit would bother me so much. Glad you’re enjoying it and not bothered by those metrics.

As it IS social media, RUclips doesnt feel the same as FB or Twittier
same with snapchat and discord they dont really feel it since its mostly chat with friends and you cant reallly intreact with anyone that doesnt either know your username or just happens to guess
YT seems like one of the least toxic social medias, if not the least toxic.
Actually, in a way, Twitch could be considered "social media" of sorts, since it almost seems like the streamer's socializing with chat, and chatting his/her mind in the process.
@@alexfloshoonly toxicity really is the bots and certain RUclips channels besides controversy that is covered 🤔
Because RUclips is basically want you to keep watching things that interest you, but Twitter want you to have reactions about a tweet (generally controversial ones) so you can keep using.
Your decision to step back from such platforms is an inspiration for many who are battling with the ill-effects of social media.

Same I deleted Instagram and Snapchat as I don't want to know what the world is up to and I can focus on my self and there is no need to check or telling the peers what you are up to
did the same, man i had friends that post inspirational quotes yet in person proceeds to do the opposite.

RUclips is not the same as twitter or Facebook.
Agreed
This is a factually correct statement
agreed. i wouldnt even call youtube social media tbh. its not focused on "socializing" at all. yes there is comment sections, but thats like saying going to the movies is the same as a club or bar. we are here to watch stuff, and be entertained/learn something, not to make friends.

My biggest gripe with social media is being forcefed content I don't want to see. If I just saw my friends and people I follow it would be a much nicer place to be

I mean yeah, because that's correct? Had the same thoughts with X recently. All I see is youtuber/streamer drama and people going off about how X is doing Y with Z and it's this huge thing, but then at a quick step back, I'm like "Why should I spend my time and energy being mad at this when I could be spending it just chilling solo or with friends being happy?" Good decision, man.

Flip Flop Joe
Discord is nice, its where people with very specific interests can gather, chat, and share information so its very useful when used in that manner. Basically a more evolved hybrid of forums and IRCs
Good for you, RUclips is the only social media I interact with. Stopped handing over my information over ten years ago now.

Flip Flop Joe
Know what?

I personally don't mind that they do that, but at the same time, there's no other channels I respect as much as these, that are tried and true to their creator's vision.. did you not get the whole point of this video? people are getting rid of certain things social media wise for their MENTAL HEALTH. taking a small break or just not uploading EVERYDAY. thats fine with me considering its for their mental health. and they will never retire bud, its their income and life. they will still be streaming when they are 50-60s. guaranteed.

Hugs to you, Muta.

It's possible. All it really takes is initiative. I believe in you.
Remember that social media conditions you feel like you need it.
The first few days will be rough, but once you realize how happy you are without it, you'll wonder why you didn't quit sooner.
Take interest on finding a new hobby to take your attention and urges to stay on social medial doom scrolling.
Good deal - mental health comes first.
Leaving Twitter was definitely a good idea. People said some bad stuff about you when you announced your departure.

Its safe now muta. The poop jokes are gone.
i think x has bigger problems than that
Dw I feel you bro. Social media is a plague on the mind. Im glad I stepped back a long time ago.
It is a great thing to have control to be able to disconnect from social media. This addiction is something to take note of. It is healthy and good to see you care enough for yourself to take that step. Some can't even conceive the idea to take a step away or an understanding what it truly does to mental health and actual relationships around them.
I only have discord and if you consider RUclips to be social media then that. I don’t have any other accounts that I use anymore
I knew you were on the right path the moment you left Twitter

RUclips for the most part, has less of a negative bias when it comes to actual community posts made by creators. The few times I've seen someone start a fuss in the comments of a video, they pretty quickly get shutdown.
Bro cant handle criticism
Bro wants mutahar to notice him so badly.
Nice. I've cut down on social media a lot too. They do nothing more than waste your time and depress you.
