Yes, it took 4 companies to make this unit. And also... it can't really do much.
Find out why, and check out the review!

No backlight, very expensive, no apps, no way yet to show comics. And still very positive review. Guess I'll wait for Boox to offer a 13 inch someday.
13.3" colour is very exciting, No front light is a little disappointing as that is the way to get rid of the rather ordinary grey cast of the background on Kaleido 3. Lack of options or locked in is also disappointing, but then i suppose the very first won't be perfect. I might have to wait for Onyx to do one.
They're taking E-ink in a different (imo, weird) approach where it's a simple e-ink canvas. It's so light it's like a newspaper. I'm sure they want to present a e-paper... paper. Not tablet, e-reader or note-taking device.
That said, the cost doesn't match such a device. Sometimes, simplicity has its uses, but this was just too simple.
looks a bit like pulp paper used for comics.
@@yensteel K3 with no backlight is waaaaay darker than newspaper. It's almost unreadable under high w led bulbs. Even outside it's only decent.
Not sure how this is considered okay. Unless you have studio lighting gg.
@@PixogenPixels Yeah, I still can't get used to my Kaleido 3 tablet without backlight here, but color was really useful for highlighting.
It's good progress, however very dark.
Very cool. Hope it will be integrated into an android tablet. Maybe I'll wait for Kaleido 4 though.
Are there any lore Koleido 3 13.3" display readers already announced?
Do you have any news about the launch of the Fujitsu Quadrno Gen 3?
Nothing yet, but they have slashed their prices, which is fairly evident of them thinking about releasing their next unit
They're also on a 3-year cycle and their time is coming up for the third gen
@@goodereader @yensteel @PixogenPixels Do you have any idea how the brightness of background in Kaleido 3 compares to Quaderno Gen2 E ink Carta 1250? Is the contrast between black letters and white background worse in Kaleido 3 or rather similar? I have a feeling that Kaleido 3 is visibly darker and if so, I'm wondering whether the colors are worth it.
Great video!
Are there news about tablet 10.3" with Gallery 3 technology?
Gallery 3 was only on 8" and now it's discontinued
@@goodereader It Is Strange... We are in 2024 xD
@@theitalianghost there were three units, all three of them fell :(
@@goodereader wow... All 10.3"?
If I buy one at the website, how can I get the warranty? I used to buy one on that website and the one broke short after. It cost me 800usd.
Yes, you'll only be able to get warranty if you buy through us, if you buy through them, you'll have to deal with them directly and we cannot help facilitate
Is there a jailbreak project yet?
Actually you can connect it to a computer with a cable and load files to the notes section of the device without go through their website upload and conversion process.
We put PDFs into every single file folder
They were completely undiscoverable off of every single option we chose
And the online file uploader did not work either
@@goodereader Ouch, that would be incredibly limiting. They need to fix the file system.
save your pdf file to the 'import' folder. from the device, select the second menu item "筆記", press the folder icon. press import (匯入)
copy an epub file to the 'books' folder. select the first menu item (看書). press the third icon (書櫃). select the last item (本機)
@@goodereader did you put the documents in the imports folder through your computer? I did that and then in the 筆記section of the device I clicked 匯入, the document then appeared.
Red is the new orange
I would like to see an Android tablet with 13.3" color screen. This one got 13.3" color screen but not a tablet. So I will wait for something like Boox tab X color, which runs on android. My intended usage would be PDF reading, note taking, and as an extended monitor for windows PC. The existing 10.3" color screen tablets are a bit too small as a monitor.
13.3in kaleido 3... but no front light... only 2gb of ram... and only a 2000mah battery... for $1100!? HARD PASS
The new Ipad air 13 inch could be a replacement of the sony dpt-rp1, but the catch is it weights more than 600g. If this new one cannot handle pdf, but only as an ereader, 13.3inch is insane and not much useful at all.
We have been Fielding these concerns since we started this company 17 years ago
You cannot compare tablets to e-readers
You cannot compare iPads to enotes
That's not the same thing at all and it is an unfair comparison
That's like saying your $500 shoes are more expensive than my '91 Dodge neon
Theyre seperate things
Give me Android, because my shops, 128 gb or storage expansion and grow light and we are in business
Android 9?? Not even supported OS anymore.
Not sure who would buy this. $1100 USD is roughly $1500 CDN, and one could buy a 13” 6th Gen iPad Pro for a little bit more. Apples to oranges comparison I know - no pun intended. But with the iPad one would also get years of software support along with a more capable device and a much, much larger supply of aftermarket accessories (cases, etc.)
I’m still hoping for an affordable 13” colour e-reader that I could use to read pdfs, technical manuals, reference books and graphic novels with.
iPad iPad iPad iPad iPad iPad iPad
pre-order price from the official website is USD723
6 colors only?
The limited colors when it comes to the paint brush pallet, but it displays more than six colors, yes
I saw the price and laughed really really hard.
Okay
Especially given that for $1,100 USD (not $1,000 as stated in the video), you don’t get a front light, which is fine for monochrome devices like Supernote & reMarkable but totally unacceptable with the darker Kaleido panel.
@@steverolfeca I wouldn't even pay $1,000 for an OLED device so why should is pay so much for a much worse display from a china manufactor where the device will most likely go end-of-life on release day, and no eye strain is in this price range now really a factor anymore.
Just wait 5 months or so. Im pretty sure there will be 13.5 inch kaliedo display with backlight under 300 dollars 😂
Unfortunately we've been in the industry for 17 years, and that is not something that will happen
We don't want to burst your bubble, but the price disparity is just far too high for what you're expecting
13.3 revolves very heavily around supply and demand, and it will just never be that low
for that price and very limited... no thank you.
Wow what sticker shock..1100 dollars? Yikes! Kobo is gonna rule color ereaders for sure lol.
$1100 and no page buttons. Guess I’m asking for the world
No 13.3's have physical page buttons, no :-(
Not even upload an unboxing video? 🤔
Is this a joke? we are genuinely curious
Ghosting seems to be quite bad here
great but the price is ... 😢
They have to add Android, otherwise the a proprietary OS will kill its usability
The ultimate comic book and graphic novel reader
Better just release a folding one now as this will be too expensive. Make the folding one have micro HDMI and miracast modes. or side-loading android apps
Way too expensive. These are solutions looking for a niche problem.
1100 dollars? this is a joke
No
The Taiwanese must have paid a lot for the dishing against their very capable competitors from other parts of China.
The dishing against competitors?
