I love the idea of the gods just knowing they're in a musical, so they're just like "if this is going to be my life, might as well make it fun and dramatic!"
Holy crap that’s actually amazing….so I guess that means in the beginning of Ruthlessness the chanting “Posidion” is just freaking Posidion hyping himself up

Thank you Jay. Seeing you be the "random people showing up to sing" made me laugh out loud so hard, i scared a customer! Have i mentioned i adore your manic face? Love it!
The way I completely lost it at your random people appearing and singing 🤣🤣 I love this info. But I feel great that I was right in thinking that with the mortals it's always the crew and with the gods it doesn't matter where it's coming from And if we're honest, we all live for petty Poseidon 😁
I appreciate that you also tend to alter the ensemble voices so that they don’t always sound human. It helps distinguish the two when listening to the audio alone. (The “ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves” chorus is especially eerie)
Ya know, I had thought the inhuman voices that sang "ruthless is mercy upon ourselves" were other cyclops since they sounded similar to the voices that say, "if no-body hurts you, be silent" during the cyclops saga
In “My Goodbye” with a back up vocals, I always see it as the people from Odysseus’s past (either people he killed or failed to save) swarming around him as if to agree with Athena’s claims. Also, I love that Athena just hypes herself up in Warrior of the mind while Odysseus is singing about her already being great.
I discovered EPIC through a friend last year, and it is without a doubt one of if not the best musical that I've ever heard. I just wanted to thank you for bringing such amazing music and such a truly wonderful story to life. When EPIC is performed on Broadway (when, not if) I'll be one of the first to buy tickets! Thank you once again for this truly wonderful creation, and I wish you the best of luck in the new year!
...this implies that once Odysseus is left with nobody else at his side, when all soldiers are gone (hopefully I'm not remembering this wrong), we're no longer going to hear any backup vocals for the parts he sings. It'll just be his lone voice. And that is extremely depressing! Thanks, Jay!
@@FeebleLittleGoldcrest well Hermes is there for some part of the journey, Calypso is there right after everybody is gone... and then poseidon shows up again so..... but knowing Odysseus literally HAS to sing solo because there's no one to back him up (not because they don't want to but because they're gone) is kinda sad
Goddd I love all the thoughtful details you put into this. The unique instruments representing the different characters, the reasoning here for the choruses, all these subtle things that add so much and show how much heart you've put into this story.
Your thought and passion behind your work is astounding! Your creativity honestly is so inspiring and uplifting. I am so happy to have discovered EPIC and cannot wait to see how you continue to pour your heart and soul into it! ❤
omg Jay acting out the ensemble parts in the god songs SENT me. In all seriousness I love these little looks into different elements of the songs of Epic, it really shows the care Jay puts into making the music and trying to tell a story with it
Its really great job so far. Every song is distinct but still connected somehow, every song is amazing. So thank you and everybody helping (also many inspiring animations). Cant wait to binge it when its done - might be a while until we reach the length of the Odyssee tough ^^
This entire thing is amazing, like everything Epic, but can we just acknowledge the *fantastic* little addition that whenever he shows a song on the screen, he moves the camera to the beat of that song? 😂 I love it so much! 😍🥰🤩
It's totally in keeping with Greek stories to have, well, a Greek Chorus, people who aren't necessarily in the story but do comment and sometimes interact with the characters so I wasn't going to question where the ensemble vocals were coming from in various moments But I am both amused by the fact that Poseidon is so petty he brought back the Leitmotif AND ALSO the idea that there are some random guys following Odysseus around to provide back up vocals at a moments notice and do nothing else
omg.. All these details are such genius ideas.. the Ocean saga was not even a month ago and I’m I’m already crying cuz no Circe saga right now 😭😭😭 JORGE YOU ARE EPIC
I LOVE all the thought process and details you put into this but why you gotta be SO funny while explaining it 🤣🤣 I had to watch the vid three times because I kept laughing so hard I missed the next bit
Ensemble vocals being a diegetic part of the gods' powerset to be utilized as they see fit in songs where they feature is honestly such a brilliant idea for characterizing the gods in this musical holy shit
I would love to read your lyric write ups, I never would have known there was a distinction between the different types of ensemble vocals if you hadn’t shown us. Like I would have just thought nothing of the presence of the ensemble, the same way you do with lots of things in theatre, fourth wall and all that. This is a really interesting angle though, and it makes me curious how many other very intentional details you’ve put in those lyrics sheets/screenplays that I’m missing. I was already painfully curious about the staging notes.
can I just say I absolutely love your facial expression Jorge, like deadass seeing you explain shit and the expressions on your face just make me giggle in the best way possible. keep doing what you're doing sikdbfgksdbfk
Jay, first I would like to say that you have done an outstanding job with all the songs. The amount of time, thought, and practice you put into it is amazing. I love that you share your thoughts and explain why you made each song the way it has been done. You are very creative and it’s nice to see you and your team’s talent. I truly love all the songs even though I’ve never been interested in any mythologies. It’s funny how I got interested through your music. Second I love your humor, you are a really funny guy. It would be cool to work with you, perhaps one day! Keep up the fantastic work 💃🏽💗
I still love the idea that we saw in wolfy's fmv to my goodbye, where the ensamble was portrayed as shadow figures and ghost like characters of all the people Odysseus knew like a haunting memory. It was such a strong scene that I can't forget about it XD Still, thank you so much for explaining and giving us all the background info ^.^/
Its 4 o'clock in the morning, and I just about died trying not to laugh really loud when you said "My comrades just perished to a god... Allow me to contemplate the philosophy of man versus monster..." 😂 the eyebrow raise was so perfect 🤨🤣
I always imagine that those ensamble lines in 'Ruthlessness' are not only Poseidon bringing back those words, but also him creating like watery or fog-like silhouettes to make it look like the spirits of the perished soldiers are blaming Odysseus for their demise, even further messing with him
I really love how many details you put into this musical. Everyone of us noticed the background ensemble, but it's amazing how there's an entire story behind that!
I can’t believe the thought and detail and dedication this takes,I honestly found your work 2 days ago and I can’t get the song out of my head, absolutely incredible, and also love your humor ❤😂
I always saw Poseidon's ensemble "when does a man become a monster" as odysseus's POV. Like the PTSD is manifesting his fallen soldiers to ask him when he's going to finally do what needs to be done and prevent this from happening again.
Can we also just take a moment to acknowledge just how BADASS Ruthlessness is? So far it's my favorite one, and that's saying something! I can't wait to hear Troy/Hermes ... "Hello old friend!"
Poseidon being petty is just spot on tbh
Gods be petty AF ❤
It's inspirational honestly
I've always loved Poseiden being a chill guy, but if you get him riled up, he will be the most petty dude you've ever met. (He'd probably rival Ares)
