Some years ago I lost 160 pounds. I did it the hard way, counting calories and exercising. It took a year and a half: I didn't gain it overnight and I wasn't going to lose it overnight. My doctor was thrilled. So was I. :-)

Thankyou I love hearing it takes long term. Thankyou for reply. Movavating. I gained three inches in four months and over half a stone. I get it off and my arms have gained inch. But glad I measured my self as scales confuse sometimes. X

      @@Suziwellbeingchannel You can do it!
I weighed myself every week, same time, same day, same clothes, and kept a spreadsheet. There were a few weeks where the numbers weren't great. So be it. In the end they were. At 59 I will never be as skinny as I was when I was 18. Not that I'd want to be. I looked anorexic. Being that skinny isn't flattering when you're middle-aged.
I had very clear motivation: I wanted to learn to fly airplanes and while I could pour myself in to a 172 I couldn't get the seatbelt around me. I was crushed but motivated.
On the way down I went through several interim wardrobes. Nobody ever talks about that. Whining that none of your clothes fit because you've lost weight gets very little sympathy. :-)

Thank you so much for sharing this, Jillian!! This needs to be addressed. I'm glad you talked about the issue of fad diets and starving oneself. I recently saw a RUclips video made by someone who makes RUclips videos that contain skits that address life issues. One of the issues was bulimia. The characters included a teenager, her widowed father, and her father's girlfriend. The father was constantly discouraging his daughter about her weight. He did it to the point where she became so ashamed of her body that she developed bulimia. When the dad's date came over, she told the dad that he shouldn't be talking to his daughter the way he was talking to her. When the dad's date went to use the restroom, she found that the daughter had fainted as a result of what bulimia was doing to her body. The dad came to his senses and apologized.

Great video! Everything you said is spot on! I recently started my weight loss journey in July and lost 60 lbs. What has helped me was simply watching my calorie intake and watching what I eat by making healthier food choices. I also workout 6 days a week doing cardio and weight lifting. I also track my steps on my fitness watch. I aim for 6000 steps or more a day. I'm currently working on my goal of getting at least 10,000 steps a day.

Always great, science-backed info from JM! She says this multiple times in the video - "you know the answer" - and although knowledge is power, it doesn't address the psychological factors of overeating. At the end of the day, people don't overeat because they are "experiencing a calorie deficit". They overeat/gain weight as a response to psychological triggers.

I used to count my calories. Personally, for me. I got obsessed with the numbers. I would get so stressed out because I overthink every small thing. I got obsessed over the numbers going lower and lower. I started getting my calories to be 600 a day and it satisfied me. Of course, I ended up binge eating and gained back everything fast. I will not count calories again because I get obsessive over the numbers. This time, I want to of course be mindful of what I am eating and allow myself to have "crap food" in moderation and workout this time. This is me personally though but it works for a lot of people. I recently received a copy of an eating program you created for a video you made. It was reasonable and with regular food. Although I am not using the video as of yet, I am eating regular food but watching what I eat and how much. I didn’t think that it would make a difference. I felt that way due to not exercising my brains out...just a few minutes a day. For two weeks in a row I have lost 1.4 pounds. I am in amazement! Don’t feel like I am on a diet. I switched my approach to consciousness of choice. While I wish for 30 pound lose in a month. I’ll take the steady 1.4 pounds a week. Yeah it is slow but at 50 years old, doing it this way is enjoyable (well as least not miserable). I want to thank you for leaking us valuable things like pdf’s and videos. You are spot on with all of this information. Years ago I thought keto was the greatest thing. Found out the hard way it’s not sustainable. Since then I’ve been working with a Coach who has Hey similar perspective as you. I started at 240 pounds, currently down to 190 pounds. This was all done by counting calories, making sure I hit my macros, Resistance training three times a week half hour each session and working 10 to 15 Thousand steps today. It’s not rocket science, just common sense. Last time I was down to 190 pounds was over 30 Years ago. Thanks for staying consistent with your beliefs Jillian and keep up the great work.

There are two types of videos I would love to see more of.
    1. Videos on mindfulness.
    2. Verbal training on proper form and common mistakes of work outs. I believe you started doing that with squats and sit ups, I would appreciate more. I have a vision issue and I am not always able to get help with others watching videos and checking my form for me, so any assistance you can give is very appreciated.
Thank you for all you do, love and best wishes to you and yours.

I have worked out for at least 20+ years now-I actually enjoy it mostly (I am 72 now and most people don't believe it). I found your program in the mid 2000's. I ended up losing 15 Pounds and my measurements were good (except I could never seem to reach the proper hip to waist ratio-sigh). I loved your program...it gave great meal plans, a very accessible site...I even did the workouts 4 days a week at my work (we have a gym there), I am not even sure why I stopped...I believe your site was stopped for awhile? anyway, since then, I joined Gold's Gym, worked with a few trainers and the last one helped me take off some more weight. I was so appreciative of your saying do not go below 1200 cal-my last trainer had me on 1000 cal and I definitely lost with her guidance, but didn't achieve the measurement goals or
ask about a maintenance diet before she left the gym. So, I had gone back to the 1000 cal diet-when I stayed on it, my weight was good, but I never thought or realized the other consequences you mentioned. I will now follow your advice and watch your videos regularly-I already watched 4 today:) thanks so much for being there for us and for all your hard work in gaining this knowledge!

Omg Jillian! I remember working out with your DVDs in high school & I am excited to have found you here. I totally agree with all your input & what you recommend. I went on Keto for 1 year & stopped producing my T3 hormone. Women need to steer clear of that diet. I felt like a zombie, I couldn't feel happy or any positive emotion and I was always hungry.

I've spent the past few days researching 'diets' and 'weight loss programs'...I have been doing 'bootcamp' now for almost a year, with the 2020 goal to "get stronger". I have achieved this goal & am noticeably stronger, but I am still overweight. Hence my look into 'diet programs'. I love what Jillian says here, it's about a calorie deficit and exercise...well, ok, I have the exercise part done and now need to look at my diet, which I now know to mean "a calorie deficit whilst maintaining the necessary macros for my health!". Thanks, Jillian...I always suspected that Keto/Paleo/LCHF etc were not really good for health. I need to start eating all the macros, but watch the daily calorie intake.

Thank You Jillian! TRUTH! Everything you said here is Spot On! I am vegan for ethical reasons. Exercise is key to weight loss, health and longevity. I see so many people who give their lame excuses for not exercising, yet they piss and moan about not losing weight.🙄 Then they go on one fad diet after another, not understanding why they can’t consistently lose weight and keep it off. It is simple math; calories in, calories out. The numbers don’t lie. For my numbers, (basal metabolic rate), I need to be eating between 1,000 to 1,200 calories with daily exercise if I want to reach my desired weight, bmi, fat percentage, muscle percentage, body age, visceral fat, etc. I may not like those numbers, but those numbers DO NOT LIE. It comes down to; Eat Healthy, Get Off Your Ass And Move.

I'm sorry but the Keto diet has saved my life. I eat mostly non GMO food. I also exercise almost every day I turned 60 last year and found out I had T2D been on it for almost 18 months and have lost 94 lbs. I feel great I eat below 50 carbs now to maintain my weight. I stay away from processed food and make everything practically from scratch. I also eat lots of greens. This is all part of a healthy Keto diet. I also eat fish too. All my blood numbers are perfect now. I feel like I'm 30. I do sometimes cheat for birthdays and holidays. I plan to loose just 9 more pounds to be 127 like I was in my 20s.

Thank you. I’ve been on WW, Keto, Jenny Craig, Atkins, Southwest, 800 calorie days, etc. Weight came off then if I looked a slice of pizza or fries etc I’d gain it all back and more. YoYo dieting all my life now I’m 56 type 2 diabetes and it doesn’t run in my family. I messed my body up. I wish I ate the right calories and exercised safely and affectively. Now I’m starting over but this time the right way. I needed to hear this message in your video. Thank you again so much! 🌸❤️

I just kept losing and gaining the same two pounds, after an initial 20 pound loss. I am 55 and then eventually I hurt my back and knee and that’s the end. some people just don’t get the desired effect. But, I like that you are debunking the myths.

Love so much how informative and to the point your videos are Jillian, thanks so much! Could you do a vid about how to most accurately figure out/track calories in food consumed and spent in exercise? I think that’s also a major reason why counting calories might not work for some people - they overestimate calories burned in exercise and underestimate calories consumed. Thinking this could be a very helpful topic.
