Dang Jillian, you should get a side hustle as a therapist. I’m 15 lbs away from my target weight goal, & that’s not why I’m here, your LIFE advice is why I’m here. Please do more videos like these...they’re great to listen to in the mornings while getting ready for work.

I'm morbidly obese and have subconsciously used my weight as a shield from predators. I was sexually abused as a young child, then raped at 14, then got married to a physically abusive man. Divorced and fell into a 2nd physically abusive relationship. I literally used my fat as a shield without even realizing it. But those are aspects of my past that I hopefully will never have to live tthrough again. It's time for me to realise: I am safe now, it is ok to let the walls down...its ok to put my armour down. It served its purpose, as unhealthy as it was. It is now time to take control and do something to change what I've done to myself. Jillian everything you said is 100% true. Thank you for keeping it real. Much love and respect. P.s wish me luck, I've got about 140 pounds to lose!

Corporate Goth Lady I am soooo sorry. I was abused growing up too. I took control 2 years ago and lost over 100lbs. I finally realized what I was doing to myself and put my health first for a change. Emotionally and physically, I’ve never been healthier. Take care of yourself. You’re worth it!

A family friend did the same thing for years. Every time she lost weight, men would pay attention to her and the trauma would re-emerge and it would cause her return to her original eating habits. I also knew a gay bloke who used it to escape the discomfort that the negative attention his sexuality would bring from living in a small town. It's like an invisibility cloak.

OMG Jillian this video is sooooooo empowering, motivational and down to earth. I’ve been listening your podcasts / watching your videos for years now and this video here is by far one of the most moving, deep , meaningful talks that I’ve ever heard from you. Please keep speaking your mind, even if it’s not mainstream, even if it’s not what seems to be in or cool or celebrated right now. Because by doing so, yo do make a difference between some of us who really want to do things differently, and heal from a much deeper pain related to depravation issues that we’ve been dragging. Today was one of those days where I was questioning if all of the effort related to keeping my self healthy was even worth it, because at times it is soooo hard ; and then I came across this video which COMPLETELY change my attitude and disposition towards why I decided to permanently and consistently eat healthy and work out , and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

Your straightforward, no BS, just the facts attitude along with scientifically supported approach to weight loss is what makes you my “go to” person for diet and fitness advice. I literally curse you under my breath every time I do your workouts (LOL) but I could not be more grateful! I have 15 pounds left to lose. The internal work I have done has been the most impactful for losing weight- hands down! It was NOT easy and in no way fun! It has taken YEARS to get to the point where I can say “I’m all in,” but I arrived. While everyone else hates 2020 (which I totally get) it has been a year of positive transformation for me. Keep telling it like it is and yes, please write a book! It will no doubt help countless others.

Thank you so much for this video. I have experienced eating disorders off and on and within the last 2 years, i have gained almost 80-100 pounds over my healthy weight. In the last year i have tried off and on and to lose that. I lost 40 pounds and i am very proud of that but i have also gone back and forth with even some of those pounds lost. As a child i experienced a lot of trauma and violence that i wont go into detail here butttttt, I've had major anxiety/depression because of it. Now as an adult, it is really affecting me as well as even keeping my job! I am in the process of starting counseling again, buttttt this video is definitely what i needed to hear because it is reassuring me to the fullest why the diets i've attempted haven't worked out. There's so much more going on with me that i need help from a therapist to tackle the real issue here.

One of the things that Joe Bennett (one of the best coaches in hypertrophy training) preaches too is finding your Individual WHY. The why is what’s going to drive your consistency and motivate you day in and day out. Without your why, you’ve set yourself up to fail. “Dieting” is not sustainable. This we know. What is sustainable is finding things you can implement diet and training wise that you can turn into a LIFESTYLE. Make small changes in the short term that will lead to long term results.

This was so needed and really is true losing and gaining is a choice. I lost 35 lbs in two year with no trainer as a gift to myself for my 30th bday after I had spent the last few years of my twenties pretending I was still 19 years old. I had to face I needed to make a complete lifestyle change and that my body was gettin older, it couldn't sustain my old habits and look 19 anymore.

I am taking the very very slow approach. I try to eat healthy and keep it 1200 to 1500 calories and 30 minutes to 70 minutes of exercise 4 to 6 days a week. I haven't lost a lot of weight...but i look more toned and cellulite seems a bit reduced.
I may go harder for 1 week with a much stricter diet.
But, i don't feel starved and Inam looking better.

I think this has been the core of my problem for at least 10 years now! I have been in such a cocoon eating and hiding from myself and from things that have hurt me and made me feel “less than”. Instead of taking ownership I kid myself I could “take charge” anytime I felt like it. Now, fast forward, I am 58 lbs over weight and barely have the energy for the 4 year old grandson I now find myself in full custody of! My weight loss has been very slow and painful. I am working my ass off every day and I switched to a vegan lifestyle. Every pound I lose I swear I never wanna see or feel again! Not only because it hurts and cost me so much effort to lose it, but also for my grandson deserves better! My grandson deserves my very best! Each day has been a struggle, but u know what, with each day it’s getting a little bit easier and my state of mind is changing. I completely agree, losing weight and keeping it off begins in our mind. You can do it and it feels amazing! Before I hated the pain of all the work, now I welcome it! Thk u Jillian this one was powerful ❤

I feel like people vilify Jillian because they say she “contributes to diet culture.” I disagree wholeheartedly with that. I feel like she speaks to the fact that food is meant to provide your body with what it needs to thrive. She never preaches fad diets, or crazy restriction. I feel like all she is saying is that a healthy weight range exists (because it does!) and that you should be cognizant of your food choices so you can stay within that range. I agree with a lot of intuitive eating claims, but I also agree that it should be used within the context of common sense when it comes to diet choices.
I’m rambling...but I see people DRAG her for what she says and I truly don’t find it harmful. I have struggled with body image and ED for most of my life and I still find most of her content helpful and uplifting.
She speaks to health and not to appearance, and isn’t that the message everyone has been pushing?

The most honest explanation I have heard. I have 40 pounds to go. Hated every diet I tried, for different reasons, except calorie restriction with high nutrient foods. Not easy, but better than eating plates full of lard and seeing my hair falling off and my face as greasy as a dirty frying pan. More veggies, less meats, less sugars, less wheat!

I think the Healthy at Every Size, Body Positivity, and Fat Acceptance Movements started with good intentions, but have been have been used to normalize and even glorify obesity. Those movements could be dangerous long-term. I also find it notable that many of the women who are the faces of those movements are relatively young (20s and early-30s). They may not have developed obesity-related health conditions yet and therefore claim to be healthy and happy. There also seems to be an irrational fear of eating disorders (specifically anorexia) in those movements. I heard that in the United States, 200 people die of anorexia every year but 1200 people die of obesity-related illnesses every day. While it is tragic for the families and friends of those who died of anorexia, obesity is clearly the greater public health threat.

BRAVO! Extremely and responsibly well done!
As a former Group Fitness Instructor and always a Psych head I don't think I've heard it said better, or with more empathy. Wow u read Nietzsche? Ok I AM impressed.
Yes, tip toeing around triggers zaps energy, and pisses off friends/family/co-workers. Too bad tip toeing doesn't burn mega calories, it feels like it should!
The pain at the root of triggers is a total S O B to deal with, and it seems to take forEVER. Sometimes one doesn't even feel the progress they are making, even though they are moving forward.
Thank you so much for the intellect, the stand against "New norms" and thanks for the inspiration.
