I'm looking at it first and foremost as a lifelong Technics owner (and mixing DJ, by the way), who feels really let down by this "comeback" deck. Yeah, it has a great motor, and yeah they've fixed the old analogue pitch control, meaning it'll be better for mixing. But it feels like it has been built cheaply, and 1210s were always all about quality. Sorry but this just doesn't feel like a top quality product, it feels like it's been built to budget, to fit in underneath the more expensive turntables in the range.

Despite the comments on this video. Technics has a reputation that is earned. How many electronic devices last almost 40 years. Oh the outrage that this deck costs $1000 as you read this on your $1000 iPhone that you upgrade every two years. Technics is the Rolls Royce of turntables. The standard that everyone tries to meet, I could care less what any other manufacturer releases because I know this turntable will outlast them all and at the end of the day if your satisfied with your reloop, audio technica, pioneer or whatever turntable you have. At the end of the day it is not a Technics.
Why are people always complaining about the price of Technics turntables, if they are too expensive for you, go buy something else. These tables have never been cheap I paid £475 for a brand new SL 1210 MK2 back in the late 1980s I’m sure if you adjust that for inflation the new price is pretty much correct.
That's true but, we have to consider the decreasing cost of manufacturing. Look at the computer market. A very nice computer system can be had for under $1000 today and that includes everything. I remember paying that much for just the monitor when they were still CRTs. The last CRT monitor I bought was a 21 inch Viewsonic. At the time, it was considered one of the best at about $1200. Right now, I'm staring at a 32 inch LG HD monitor that I purchased from Amazon for $175. Believe it or not, there's still a use for those big CRTs if they work. If someone lives in a cold region, using one might help to lower your heating bill. LOL
Lol DJ Tips just lost all credibility, depending on the style of music, many djs still play 7" vinyl with the big hole in the middle. Myself for one as I play reggae music.
I completely agree. Not everyone plays DVS, and for those that actually do there is no need to go for Technics... any Hanpin model will do as rumble/feedback does not matter there. For the real vinyl folk, however, the 45 adapter, the isolation are very important points, and I think that Technics aim at them, not at the DVS users.
@@digitaldjtips I agree, but beatmixing does not mean digital. What I tried to say was that having a Technics turntable really matters as long as you play real vinyl, when sound quality, resistance to feedback, 45 adapters, quality of the tonearms's bearings etc. are crucial. For DVS DJs I dont think that owning a pair of 1210mk* is that important, unless you want to feel the Technics touch... I am part of the real vinyl enthousiasts, so I think I will keep my 25 yeats old sl1210 or buy new Technics because sound quality and feedback are very important to me. However, if I was a DVS only DJ, I think I would think it twice.
Though I own a couple of 1210mkll's in mint condition, but with upgraded spindle & bearing and mondifed phono cable, I fell in love with the new 1200G about a year ago. Not for DJ use mind you, but for music listening. Firstly in the studio, but soon after at home. Call me an idiot, but it sounds amazingly good. Out of context here, but just had to mention it. Real sad about this new deck ... I won't be parting with my 1210MKII's that for sure 👍
$1200,- for a flimsy version of the original one? You've got to be kidding me. Seems like Technics have completely lost touch with nowaday's DJ market and are still living in their nineties fantasy.
It seems that the quality has gone but the price remains high . A secondhand model will show it up. Is this what Technics wants ?. The original platter mats were three times the thickness for a start .
Lol. This is available for preorder at Guitar Center and Musician's Friend for $999.99 (Was Price $1199.99) with an expected date of March 6, 2019. Check it out.
Hi Phil! Thanks for the video. How would you say the MK7 compares to the Pioneer PLX-1000? DJ performance, build and sound quality wise which do you prefer/recommend? Cheers!
@@digitaldjtips thanks Phil. What about the AT-LP140XP? Looking to buy a new pair to upgrade my current pair of AT-LP120XUSB to a “proper” DJ turntable setup and these 3 all look and have similar features but not the price of course, wanted to upgrade to the better one of these 3 models which would last a good while. Budget is not so much of an issue as it’s a long term investment, but i don’t want to pay overboard for mk7’s if the pioneer or AT are as or almost as good....? Thanks! :)
We don't recommend the MK7's they're over priced, best thing to do is test these in person when you get the chance - add the Reloop RP7000 to that list
I once had a wall unit fall on a 1210 mk2. It flipped a metre and a half off a desk onto the floor, dragging cables and the mixer half off the desk, the whole nine yards. I picked the 1210 up, removed the broken dust cover, there was even a slight gash/dent in the side of the side metal casing. The tone arm sustained some damage but the turntable worked perfectly. I couldn't believe it. It was like witnessing a bloody miracle. Those old techies were built like a brick sh%thouse.
@@digitaldjtips you know the price of the latest cdj pioneer? which is not even a cd player but simply a controller with ipad? 2300 euro I know that the SL it's just a turntable, which is one of the simplest piece of technology invented, but that model (whatever version) is an icon of this planet and it it represents a lot more than a piece of equipment, jut for this reason, it needs respect and lifetime thanks for the contribution to a certain music scene in this planet
i can tell you the difference quality, toughness and reliability I've had my 1200s since 1998 they spin and look like the day i bought them only thing is i got mine both for $900 new i would never pay $2400 im glad i never sold mine
Ive seen in another video these are being sold with the dustcovers like we have had with all the previous versions the ones with hinges, why is it these decks dont have any way of attaching the lids do they expect us to just plonk it on top of deck with no support?
Not sure really, I mean, the previous models they weren't ideal as nobody actually DJed with the dustcovers on and lifted up, did they? I guess easily removable covers may actually be better.
i have technics from the 80s- still works perfect, but its a P mount which limits my cartridge choices. was thinking about this one for more cartridge options .now I'm not sure again going new would be worth it .
I am curious of the 78 RPM trick. Which models have this "trick"? I agree, this is way too costly for what it does. I assume it's because Technics had to retool everything. I'm happy with my 1210M5G. I feel Technics may have issues selling these.
No that is for sure pioneer DJ, technics just have lost their direction with the djs, in the 90s was totally focused team by Panasonic, they live in dreamland today with their prices, it just shows you the quality of the old technics, to get that standard today costs lot more much more
I'm not sure how I feel about other brands... Technics products last FOREVER and do an AMAZING job. I've got some floorstanding speakers they released in the 1980s and they sound better than any other stereo system I've listened to. Amazing.
Good job technics for giving what user ask for more than 20 years now, you such an innovative brand that listen to his customers... Since their patent for the platter is public, it's useless to buy a technics, some say it's a assurence to have something that will last for years, but that's maybe the case for the mecanical pitch on mk2 but this one is just the same as the others, just more expensive. Reloop is releasing their RP8000 mk2, if you look for a turntable with more option and innovation than this, then you got it, for almost half the price (not sure how much they sell it, but I got 2 RP8000 mk1 with 2 Q-Bert ortofon cartdrige and 2 Reloop fly case, all new for the price of 1 mk7, and this was 3 or 4 years ago...)
Brand and perceived value are a powerful thing. No way those are $1200 even less so when Reloop is introducing so many new things in the humble good ol’ turntable.
I guess it depends on what you want from your DJ gear in 2019, some people are fine with something pretty basic and there's nothing wrong with that - We on the other hand, just expect a little more!
They're the same company. Apparently this isn't made in Japan like the old Technics were and like the more expensive current models are, it's been retooled elsewhere.
@@digitaldjtips With you, this seems to me like they don't want the new ones to last a life time like the old ones (when well looked after) so have made a cheaper flimsier version. Disappointed in Technic's, I just sold my MK 5's to invest in a new pair of MK 7's but will be looking at the Reloop 8000's.
The equivalent of the old MK5 is the SL-1200GR handmade in Japan. This is the mass market Indonesian made one and the price is $999 but can be had for less.
Thank you for the review Phil. Sounds like Panasonic/Technics missed the market. Why would you buy a1200 for $1200 that does not feel as sturdy, solid and as well made as we’ve come to expect. I’ve had 3, 1210’s that I purchased in 1989 and 1990 that are still dependable, sturdy, issue free (never had an issue). The only thing I’ve ever done to them is get them cleaned and calibrated. I even have the original cables, dust covers, 45 insert and bulbs. That means DJ’, have 40 years of used and recently refurbished 1200 and 1210 models that you can pick up for $800-$1200 for the pair. In regards to the 45 insert, many DJ’s are spinning 45’s including myself as part of my set. Just Blaze, Rich Medina and Kenny Dope to name a few are doing complete 45 parties. You can see Kenny Dope do an entire 45 set House Music on these new 1200’s (Kenny Dope, Technics Launch).
There is not deck out there that can mix real vinyl records together like the original technics sl1200 mk2 or technics sl1210 fact! The rest of them it drops out all the time, Just something about the original analog pitch that vinyl djs luved
def creator I’ve never had to upgrade my MK2’s they are the most table turntables for DJ’s made. I would be willing to bet that these will drift when beat matching.
steppa money hold it down. When CDJs came out all clubs started using them. Vinyl was therefore not as popular for people DJing so what was Technics meant to do? Saying that, the comeback doesn’t look promising and the price 🤬
The right comparison isn't wirh the reloop 7000/8000(they are good but non comparable with technics in terms of resonance and feedback wich is the most important thing with a turntable). You have to compare the mk7 with the mk2,and for 1200$ I can get a pair of mk2 in perfect shape.Don't buy reloop, pioneer or other clones, they are made to be cheap.(I've got a pair of plx 1000 and now I'm selling them for a pair of 1200 mk2
nice review phil. now if panasonic 'gifted' us with an intro price for their comeback of $700 for the MK7 then i think a lot more people will welcome them back with open arms.
My guess on the price tag is that they figure people will buy it for the namesake and not question it. But really, it's just another standard turntable with a few minor added features and new design.
Technics Turntables, MacBook Pro, Pioneer Mixer (DJM-S9) = An issue free performance. For Years..................!!!! But you get those that want to be different, and learn the HARD WAY!!!! The “LEADING BRAND” is The “LEADING BRAND” for a reason.
Phil you are a legend! You just dissed technics at their own booth! $1200 is a ridiculous price, Also...why in the world did they not internally ground it!?! It’s 2019!!
Excellent review Phil. Could not have said it better myself.Technics need to rethink this one, plus those little switches look like they would break very easily.
I was interested in this deck as I play vinyl... yep, one of those old codgers who still has use for the 45 adapter! I'd like to know whether the tonearm bearings rattle on this new Technics deck in common with every Hanpin deck I've used. I also note the close ups in this video show there's no platter wobble... again a characteristic of the Hanpin super OEMs. That said, it would appear Technics have realised their new baby is overpriced given the talk of 999 bucks and the cheaper build is a real turnoff for me. If I were ever to replace my refurbed 1200s, it would be with two GRs. These are beautifully made decks, with a marked improvement in sound over the original 1200. I can live with the digital pitch too :-)
The real test will be how good are they for playing real vinyl. I haven't been able to play vinyl since I sold my technics 1200's for those awful Mixars decks.
I'm sure the mk7 could be used as a regular turntable as well! Why not just market this table as a dual purpose turntable. Especially with the lower price they could reach a larger market. People think the mk7 can only be used as a dj turntable and I think that is not true!
I get why people love technics so much. But you can get rock solid turntables now that feature torque control, break control, reverse function, double start/stop switches, all surface mounted. No need to take it apart to access the controls that are used regularly today (apart from reverse.. who ever uses that?). I'm surprised that technics didn't add surface mounted controls for these features.
Denon lowered their prices on the 5000 to 999 which I thought was pretty cool. I think the same will happen here. I can get the older turntables (3) of them for the price of one. Yes it is lighter but we don’t use turntables on mobile gigs anymore. Well I still do lol. But with rane 12 and controllers running away with sales and popularity do you really want to come out with a 1200 turntable? I rather get the denon turntables they are low in price now too. I have two 1200m3 and they cost me 750. But I do love the higher torque so my get new tables soon
Yeah I guess there is a lot of people that just don't care about that stuff and will but this because it's new and say's "Technics" on it, fair play use what you like we reckon but for us we like the innovation :)
I was thinking about retiring my SL1200MK2 to replace them with MK7. But when I heard the price($1200), I almost lost my mind..... lol! I'll go pioneer or reloop then.
Digital DJ Tips 2 months late with my reply but I meant the song (by A Tribe Called Quest) playing in The background at the beginning, but I don’t think it is
Ben Fitzgerald GR uses slightly different materials on chasis, has aluminium tone arm, silicone feet and few other things - also comes with higher price tag.
Good honest review, thanks Phil/digital dj tips, a grand a pop, a bit steep, too steep to tempt me away from my 13 year old Stanton Str8 150's, I've been thinking of new decks and been looking at Stantons Mk2's then I seen the hype about these being released,,, Phil has digital dj tips done any reviews on stantons mk2's,,,, I'd be interested in knowing your opinion to the Stanton Mk2's compared to technics new mk7's,,,,,,,, get a pair of Stanton for the price of one of these, Stantons a more solid/robust turntable in my view
"The iconic but utterly useless converter" Try saying that to the thousands of DJ's who play funk 45's. EDIT - Just seen your apology video...fair play.
Yes, I've backtracked and eaten humble pie on this Sam but thanks for pointing it out again. By the way, we don't need it in the UK as our 7" singles have the usual sized hole - hence my confusion (not an excuse though).
Good run down on the table we wont know for sure until its released and in dj hands opened up and compared to previous versions if the have cheaped out on the internals then its a no go for me
Looks like a waste of money, do they have digital pitch? I have pioneer plx 1000's which ate great but the reloop turntables look like they are going to be some serious competion on functionality and price.
@Digital DJ Tips - well your name says everything! Stay in your digital realm and please leave commentary on a quality analog gear to others!!! Comparing cheap knockoffs to Technics is like comparing Dongfeng to Mercedes Benz!!! If it weren't for Technics these knockoff artists wouldn't even know where to begin and how to build a direct drive turntable! So please go buy yourself a duo of knockoffs with abundant light show built in and be happy! Cheers!
Excellent review. I have an original SL1200 MK2 from the late 70s. These new TTs are not even close. And the price is nuts. Thanks again for the walk-through sir!
Yeah.. they are definitely look cheaper than mk2. Maybe because of this matte all black design. Btw! Are buttons made of plastic? Is top panel plastic?
In a straight choice, I'd probably choose PLX-1000 (not PLX-500, which are poor) over this. Important to point out we haven't reviewed these yet, so that's based on first impression of their build quality.
The 45 adapter is far from being useless fella... and Technics excels at precision engineering, quality of sound and forever-lasting reliability, subtle attributes of the incredible piece of engineering that a 1200 is. So, despite Reloop doing pretty well in the dj market (I will be buying a pair myself), please stop acting as a clueless fanboy of them, and give credit where it is due. The Technics advances along the years are subtle, but have depurated these decks in sound and reliability to a level where no one brand can touch them. No doubt those nuances will be very well appreciated by the audiophile market and other connaisseurs, despite of your superficial commentary.
I am no fanboy of Reloop (or anyone) - if anything. I'm a fanboy of Technics... at least, until this model. This is cheap and it's obvious as soon as you see/feel it. I ADORE my Mk2s.
Looks like decent deck for djs...might not have all those features like OEM turntables ( Reloops etc) but I think for straight up vinyl mixing it’s still worth the money...I like the fact you can use your own mains and signal cables, change strobe light and choose between 8 and 16% pitch range...for those mixing Techno/House should be enough. Hopefully sound and built quality is top notch, otherwise it would turn out to be rubbish product from Technics... but we shall see🙂
I know some of you still use 45s, despite what I said in the video - see this quick apology: ruclips.net/video/2MObaxoAXIM/видео.html

I just bought a set of mk2's for 480 bucks! I'm stoked.
At the end of the day it is not a Technics.
,,,and frankly, nor is this! Seriously, wait till you lay hands on one.
Why are people always complaining about the price of Technics turntables, if they are too expensive for you, go buy something else. These tables have never been cheap I paid £475 for a brand new SL 1210 MK2 back in the late 1980s I’m sure if you adjust that for inflation the new price is pretty much correct.
In this instance the complaints are purely because we don't feel the price reflects the quality, which definitely wasn't the case for MK2's
@@Divadisco We hear ya, thanks for pulling us up! But Technics is seen as a "beatmixing" turntable hugely, too.
@@Divadisco You'd be right to keep your 25 year old SL1210 - I think you'd prefer it to this by a long shot.
Thanks Chris.
They are perfect for Djs, if you can't hold it down on a pair of these then start stamp collecting.
Great quick review.. Phil , I Love my SL-1200GR at least they are/look Technics ;-)
Cheers :)
iPerformer Exclusives is the gr made in japan?
I got the SL-1200GR to. Not worried that it isn't going to last decades like these new models made in Malaysia. We'll see.
$1200,- for a flimsy version of the original one? You've got to be kidding me. Seems like Technics have completely lost touch with nowaday's DJ market and are still living in their nineties fantasy.
Harsh words but hard to disagree
And they are getting their @$$e$ handed to them for it!!!
How do you know they're flimsy?
Their fantasy spanned 4 decades, give or take
It seems that the quality has gone but the price remains high . A secondhand model will show it up. Is this what Technics wants ?. The original platter mats were three times the thickness for a start .
Thanks Phil and team for travelling to NAMM!
It's our pleasure, DJ Phil :)
Brutally honest. Thanks for the review and details!
No problem Andrew :)
I’m glad to see them back but thank God I still have mine from the 80s! 😊
Our thoughts as well really :)
Thanks Phil you're always spot on with your reviews.
Cheers :)
Your review was so honest thanks for that I greatly appreciate it.
You're welcome!
Very nice video, thank you!
A very honest review well done
Lol. This is available for preorder at Guitar Center and Musician's Friend for $999.99 (Was Price $1199.99) with an expected date of March 6, 2019. Check it out.
Yep price has come down already
So what’s behind the corner? Can you share the video for competitive tt?
Hi Phil! Thanks for the video. How would you say the MK7 compares to the Pioneer PLX-1000? DJ performance, build and sound quality wise which do you prefer/recommend? Cheers!
I have neither in the studio to compare, but I'd say similar. Neither is perfect.
@@digitaldjtips Top top! Many thanks, appreciate your time!
Lol great story and many us of have one just like it!
Definitely you don't have idea, what you have in front of you, it's an icon of the planet earth! It's a masterpiece.
Wait till you see one for yourself.
@@digitaldjtips you know the price of the latest cdj pioneer? which is not even a cd player but simply a controller with ipad? 2300 euro
I know that the SL it's just a turntable, which is one of the simplest piece of technology invented, but that model (whatever version) is an icon of this planet and it it represents a lot more than a piece of equipment, jut for this reason, it needs respect and lifetime thanks for the contribution to a certain music scene in this planet
i can tell you the difference quality, toughness and reliability I've had my 1200s since 1998 they spin and look like the day i bought them only thing is i got mine both for $900 new i would never pay $2400 im glad i never sold mine
No quartz lock ?.....
Phil just roasted the MK7😄 Happy that I got a pair of 1200 MK2 in good condition for 800€ from a friend ❤️🤘! Brutally honest, Phil! Lovely.
Enjoy!
@@digitaldjtips Thx and Salute from Germany 🇩🇪!!!
Would parts be compatible with mk2 (tonearm, dustcover,...)? Any plan to make parts for mk2 again?
Questions for Panasonic :)
while, I was prepairing to buy mk5, they were producing mk7 ☺️ awesome!
Definitely check then out side by side before deciding which way to go.
I don't like ground loop hum and problems with the arm (typical for super OEM decks like Reloop) so I choose the new Technics. I was waiting for this.
Fair enough :)
i have technics from the 80s- still works perfect, but its a P mount which limits my cartridge choices. was thinking about this one for more cartridge options .now I'm not sure again going new would be worth it .
Pair of refurbished SL1200 Mk2s, or a super-OEM like the Reloop '7000s would probably be more cost effective.
I am curious of the 78 RPM trick. Which models have this "trick"? I agree, this is way too costly for what it does. I assume it's because Technics had to retool everything. I'm happy with my 1210M5G. I feel Technics may have issues selling these.
Doesn't your 1210M5G?
No. If it does, I don't know how to.
I am not sure about that exact model, but have you tried doing what I did? (Just pushing the 33 and 45 buttons at the same time?)
I've tried pressing both buttons. Doesn't change to 78
APPLE of the dj industry
Lol :)
Maybe but apple products are rock solid tbh
No that is for sure pioneer DJ, technics just have lost their direction with the djs, in the 90s was totally focused team by Panasonic, they live in dreamland today with their prices, it just shows you the quality of the old technics, to get that standard today costs lot more much more
Yeah🤑
You mixed it up with Pioneer aka do fuck all
I'm not sure how I feel about other brands... Technics products last FOREVER and do an AMAZING job. I've got some floorstanding speakers they released in the 1980s and they sound better than any other stereo system I've listened to. Amazing.
Yes the old ones at least were built like tanks :)
Digital DJ Tips Do you think this turntable is a good purchase even if it isn’t quite like the older ones?
It's not a purchase we'd recommend, doesn't feel great and for the money there's much more exciting things you can buy
Digital DJ Tips What more exciting things would you recommend that have all these features and is a direct drive?
Try them, then let us know what you think... they just don't feel like Technics, the Technics you love (and we love).
Harsh summary but yes lots of other choices out there now
Price has been reduced to $999, if he would have spoken to Ray the Technics representative at the show.
Glad to hear! Still expensive though
@@digitaldjtips Not necessarily. I bought 2 back in 2005 for $699 ($750 out the door) each and that was nearly 15 years ago.
jhenry248 personally I think about $700 US Is more reasonable
@Real2real True Pioneer also has feedback issues.
ITS NOT JUST A FUCKING TURNTABLE!! ITS THE WEAPON OF CHOICE!!! TECH9 12S FOR LIFE!!!
Not this one, in our view. This one is not for life.
Your comment about the spacer for 45's was un called for dude! We don't all play 120 bpm all night.
Haha fair point Stewart :)
Did Panasonic buy out Technic's? Just wondering if they did and then put out some thing not up to the build quality before the buy out?
We'd got for the SL-12000GR over this in a shot.
Still got and love mine, too. - Phil
There is not deck out there that can mix real vinyl records together like the original technics sl1200 mk2 or technics sl1210 fact! The rest of them it drops out all the time, Just something about the original analog pitch that vinyl djs luved
Exactly , it was the best and it showed !!.
def creator I’ve never had to upgrade my MK2’s they are the most table turntables for DJ’s made. I would be willing to bet that these will drift when beat matching.
Nah fcuk technics they didn't care when vinyl went under. Why do you get to come back with a inflated price.
Yeah definitely think they could have come in a little cheaper :)
steppa money hold it down. When CDJs came out all clubs started using them. Vinyl was therefore not as popular for people DJing so what was Technics meant to do?
Saying that, the comeback doesn’t look promising and the price 🤬
Too right!
Time will tell!
Yes - we'd love to be proved wrong and for these to be everything everyone was hoping for.
Great and honest review .... I'm still trying to break my mk2 .... from new ... cheers Technics \o/
Haha yeah they're definitely sturdy!
Isnt the little hole for goosneck light stick, in stead of a cartridge holder?
The only thing going for then is that they got the best digital pitch fader 🎚 out there , very accurate.
Thanks for watching :)
No thank you.
I’ll keep my mint 1200 mk2 turntables.
Yep good plan :)
I bought two SL1200mk2 12 years ago for 600 pounds + extras and I cannot broke them
The weels of steel in my hands since 1985 playing club, hip hope and freestyle it will naver get old old school for life!!
me too!!!!!
Thanks for the feedback :)
nice review phil. now if panasonic 'gifted' us with an intro price for their comeback of $700 for the MK7 then i think a lot more people will welcome them back with open arms.
Yeah, will most likely see a price drop in the future
When is it out to buy ?
Soon apparently.
Oh my my, Looks like Technics hired a third party turntable manufacture to make the MK7s. Real 1200s are made in Japan! Man I love my MK2's!!
Keep hold of them :)
These, apparently, are NOT made in Japan.
I like how they put a technics sticker on that pioneer djm, though.
It's probably so you can see it from afar in the trade hall to be fair :)
My guess on the price tag is that they figure people will buy it for the namesake and not question it. But really, it's just another standard turntable with a few minor added features and new design.
Yeah Technics have deservedly built up a lot of good favour with fans
Higher priced than the MK2 but cheaper looking and "revised" (cheaper?) design over the MK2. The MK7 is a sucker's Technics.
If they were a bit cheaper they'd probably sell quite well we reckon, especially to those who don't already own an older pair
Sounds like a good setup :)
I bought my first pair of 1200 MK2's from a pawn shop for $400 and I still have one of them as a back up. Not sure I'd drop $2400 for a new set
Yeah good point :)
Phil you are a legend! You just dissed technics at their own booth! $1200 is a ridiculous price, Also...why in the world did they not internally ground it!?! It’s 2019!!
Just the truth as we see it! :)
Excellent review Phil. Could not have said it better myself.Technics need to rethink this one, plus those little switches look like they would break very easily.
Thanks Phil!
I can live with the digital pitch too :-)
We'll still a review at some point and check it all out :)
The real test will be how good are they for playing real vinyl. I haven't been able to play vinyl since I sold my technics 1200's for those awful Mixars decks.
We'll do a full review in the studio eventually :)
They are amazing when you throw some wax on them . the same as the old technics
Pleased to hear that 😎
I'm sure the mk7 could be used as a regular turntable as well!
Good point.
reverse is handy for clearing gunked up grooves on records that were wet cleaned where skipping occurs as result of the cleaning, usually on 78s
You know I've never thought of that! I learned something today Vaughn!
Yeah I guess there is a lot of people that just don't care about that stuff and will but this because it's new and say's "Technics" on it, fair play use what you like we reckon but for us we like the innovation :)
www.bopdj.com/dj-gear/players/turntables/reloop-rp7000mk2-gold.html
Get 2 of these and a mixer for the same price as one technics.
The Technics 1200 is industry standard.
I was thinking about retiring my SL1200MK2 to replace them with MK7. But when I heard the price($1200), I almost lost my mind..... lol! I'll go pioneer or reloop then.
Price has dropped to $999 now.
Are they still made in Japan?
All the new Technics turntables are, except this one, which is made in Malaysia.
I’m curious why he said the 45 adapter was useless...I know a lot of people that DJ with 45’s.
Slightly tongue in cheek but the vast majority of our audience won't have a use for it
Matsushita that dude was really invent a great turntables especially technics so dope the king
Is that Excursions in the background???
Not sure what you mean by that
Digital DJ Tips 2 months late with my reply but I meant the song (by A Tribe Called Quest) playing in The background at the beginning, but I don’t think it is
Haha no idea.
Why company technics KN 7000 no to update version to KN 8000 or KN 9000 why...
Not sure what you're asking :)
What is the difference between this and the GR?
We'll do a full review asap Ben :)
Ben Fitzgerald GR uses slightly different materials on chasis, has aluminium tone arm, silicone feet and few other things - also comes with higher price tag.
Good honest review, thanks Phil/digital dj tips, a grand a pop, a bit steep, too steep to tempt me away from my 13 year old Stanton Str8 150's, I've been thinking of new decks and been looking at Stantons Mk2's then I seen the hype about these being released,,, Phil has digital dj tips done any reviews on stantons mk2's,,,, I'd be interested in knowing your opinion to the Stanton Mk2's compared to technics new mk7's,,,,,,,, get a pair of Stanton for the price of one of these, Stantons a more solid/robust turntable in my view
its the sound ..so real
Pitch control is insanely accurate
when Japan discontinued 1200 in 2009 they made audio technica lp 120
it made in Japan to replace the 1200 but now technics back
well said Phil!
Cheers :)
LOVE how they put up the tonearm weight in the wrong direction 2:45 ... RIP Serato "vinyl".
The “45” adaptor space is where I put my Novation Dicer modules...
Nice!
"The iconic but utterly useless converter"
Try saying that to the thousands of DJ's who play funk 45's.
EDIT - Just seen your apology video...fair play.
Yes, hands up my bad - thanks for hanging on in there for the apology.
sorry to tell you pal but the 45 adaptor is useful! I have tons of oldies that I still play just for the crackle
Yes, I've backtracked and eaten humble pie on this Sam but thanks for pointing it out again. By the way, we don't need it in the UK as our 7" singles have the usual sized hole - hence my confusion (not an excuse though).
Good run down on the table we wont know for sure until its released and in dj hands opened up and compared to previous versions if the have cheaped out on the internals then its a no go for me
Very true :)
It looks cool but not for $1200 that's pretty steep.
Yeah basically our thoughts exactly
They're $999
Looks like a waste of money, do they have digital pitch? I have pioneer plx 1000's which ate great but the reloop turntables look like they are going to be some serious competion on functionality and price.
Yes, it's got digital pitch
@Digital DJ Tips - well your name says everything! Stay in your digital realm and please leave commentary on a quality analog gear to others!!! Comparing cheap knockoffs to Technics is like comparing Dongfeng to Mercedes Benz!!! If it weren't for Technics these knockoff artists wouldn't even know where to begin and how to build a direct drive turntable! So please go buy yourself a duo of knockoffs with abundant light show built in and be happy! Cheers!
Have you seen these and compared then to Mk2s yourself yet?
@@@digitaldjtips Yes CES Las Vegas 2019

:)
Technics knows what they are doing. Novelty tech is fleeting, and dies quickly, people will forget about the reloops in a year.
See if you feel the same once you've seen and touched the Technics.
Excellent review. I have an original SL1200 MK2 from the late 70s. These new TTs are not even close. And the price is nuts. Thanks again for the walk-through sir!
You're welcome, glad it helped.
Yeah.. they are definitely look cheaper than mk2. Maybe because of this matte all black design. Btw! Are buttons made of plastic? Is top panel plastic?
Nope all metal here
MK7 or PLX?
Technics best audio.
Hopefully sound and built quality is top notch, otherwise it would turn out to be rubbish product from Technics... but we shall see🙂
Fair round up Mechanoid, for who these are aimed at it might just be what they're looking for
I wonder if there any factors in USA make technics?
be cool if there were get job there
