“Distance finder” is 2am-speak for “external rangefinder”, case you didn’t know.
I have a Minox 35 ML which I most often used as a candid street photography Camera, I prefocused to about 3 meters and often I had the camera in a pocket in my shirt, so I took the camera with one hand pressed the button to release the Lens and hit the shutter button, it took under 3 seconds from I took the camera till it was back in the pocket again. I think it is the best compact camera for fast photography, it is light and compact, you could always bring it. I have not used analog cameras since 2007, I only use digital cameras now, I di hope for a digital camera like the Minox !
Note that the Minox cameras (at least my 35ML) has a little switch in the hot shoe that "senses" there's a flash attached and only shoots at one speed and one f stop when you insert the rangefinder. Try to keep them unattached, that's how I use them 😊
Proof that the best camera is the one you have with you.
Great off the cuff video! Love these little glimpses into your adventures outside of RUclips, and looking forward to seeing your small camera collection! I wish small digicams (110 camera sized ones) make a comeback....we have the technology!!!
Thank you and YES to mini digicams!!
I use to travel a lot for work & always checked my bags because of equipment I needed & I never had a problem. The only time I had a problem I was traveling to Sweden with my wife for 2 weeks & they lost my suitcase. I had to borrow clothes from my brother in law & we still had a great time. They did find my luggage & return it to me the day we were leaving. I also love the clunky Pentax 645. It is heavy noise & wonderful!
Hey, little Df! Glad you have a new home with Ali! :)
be good to see them lomos from the tiny camera, you look excited, and chilled. hahah
These cameras were my obsession when I was living in Hong Kong!!!! What a joy to see them in your kit!
Gorgeous. So many to choose from in all the bags, really need to put your mind into the scene
💕
I love that you have more cameras than clothes haha! Priorities!
I like the Df anti-theft device! The Canon lens cap 😆
I had a Nikon Df back in the day. It is a brilliant camera. I bought one when they came out and loved shooting it. 16MP is a great choice for a FF sensor. It produces great images and has that lovely retro user experience. The EM10 is a great camera, too. I had the Mk1 and now have a Mk2, also a great small and light camera.
Cool and fun video! Week before any trip is when my panic starts about what camera(s) to choose. Problem of thinking there is no bad cameras is you don’t have a priority list ever.
Haha! That is very true. Sometime restrictions are my best friend: one camera one lens. I did that on a trip to Portugal, and it very much worked in my favor to slay any gas paralysis.
My EM10ii is my #1 go to for travel and street. Colors and NR so good I just shoot JPGs!
Greetings from Toronto! Welcome!
Torono, the 2nd T is silent 😉
The distance finder on the minox- brilliant! I have both, but have never combined the two. My guessing has been so-so 😅
The m10 is SO underrated, please make a video for it!! 🙏
Nice video and nice bag! :D
Love using my Df! The Zf seems great but being incompatible with AF-D lenses for autofocus is a downgrade. I prefer to use primes or small zooms on it. The 28-105 f/3.5-4.5D is quite a great performer to be found cheaply and is just about the upper limit for lens size I would use on the Df. If you stick with the Df then I would recommend installing a split prism focusing screen to really complete the experience.
I got the same Olympus body with the grip and has been serving me for many years. I can carry it everywhere since it’s so small. It will increase in price now that you showcased it 😂
You could fend off attackers with the Df and shoot the olympus with your other hand 😁 holy "small" set up Batman !! That's 1 a.m. speak for Super cool video 😃case ya didn't know
I always wanted a Minox 35 EL (I do actually have a Minox C spy camera), but while hunting for one at a good price I found an Olympus XA with the matching A11 flash. It's not a Minox, but it IS a fabulous pocket 35mm camera that does have a rangefinder patch. I love it, though I mostly shoot digital now (I got it 15 or 20 years ago).
Do you edit on your phone as well when on the road? If so, what program are you using? Thanks 🙏
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing.
Great video and look at your travel bag.
Thanks for watching!
Really enjoy your videos. Thanx!
I will be waiting impatiently for your video about the EM-10, by the way: is it a 1st or 2nd generation?
Same here! Such an underrated camara
hey you’re in my neck of the woods. welcome!
I have a Minox! Where on earth did you find a battery?
Those Panasonic 20mm and 14mm are good and small lenses. One of the reason I can’t totally leave m43
Hi Ali, Just got myself a really great condition D300 and battery grip, time to dig out my 20mm -2.8 D lens
Yay!! Have so much fun with it!
I want to travel light: How many computer and camera you have? :P
Have fun for you trip
Haha, that's traveling light? For a second there I thought clowns would start marching out of your camera bag!
Instead of guessing what's in your bag, we should be guessing what drinks you had. My official guess is gin gibsons with extra scallions. Was I close? ;-)
I couldn’t think of traveling this heavy. I used to carry a quarter of this stuff and it was too much.
I’d love a Df!
Ali ... Nikon 60mm AFd @f11 for your Df or better yet your D700. KEH video in Atlanta?
What is the smaller EDC green bag??
when we gonna get the Konica Minolta maxxum 5d review?
Wow, lots of gear to take. Id be afraid of getting it stolen. I have had 3 friends have their photography gear, laptops and nearly everything stolen the past month or so in various places while on trips. Glad I dont travel much these days but if I did, its one camera and one camera only ha. Something smaller and easily portable but still does all of what I need. Probably like my Canon Powershot S90 that shoots RAW, has a fast lens with a decent focal length...or the G1X. Easily replaceable and only around $100 if it gets stolen. Looking forward to the small camera video!
Funny, I mix MFT bodies and lenses all the time. The 20mm f1.7 Panasonic Lumix pancake lens is great in spite of the AF, and usually 40mm full frame equivalent lenses are my favorites, but for MFT I prefer my other primes (12mm f2 + 45mm f1.8 from Olympus and my Panasonic Lumix 25mm f1.7).
I'm not jealous you have a Df, but wow!
The external range finder looks like an old Leica design. I use a smaller horizontal external rangefinder when ever I use one of my viewfinder cameras - it really does make life easier.
I really do adore the 20mm but the 12mm and 45mm are gems. The 20 is like my do it all and allows me to just carry one lens until course I lose my mind and buy more on the job 😂
Love ur Channel, i can follow my camera live with ur Videos also i like that uve every video another beautiful hairstyle ) Dont stop , love ur Style . Greetings from Austria !
What a fun video, as real as it gets. That camera bag was like a camera clown car 😆
Hope you enjoy(ed) your stay !
I am! Such a great city 💕
Shit production value is gonna be the name of my vintage camera channel ; ) Rhymes with my initials
😂😂
Getting a glimpse of Ali's former job at a CIA black site here 💡💡💡
Is it just me or the blonde hair on Ali reminds you of Grace Kelly or Rosamund Pike?
I might have a bag problem, most of them are empty. More bags than opportunities.
Crazy 😉
lovin the hair...go girl...wow, the bag looks heeaavy.....you tuff....
the only problem I have with the Df really is the autofocus system.
The D700 was truly a small D3 : same 12MP sensor, same 51pt autofocus system, and the reasoning behind releasing that camera was market share in the high end market : the D700 was basically a discounted D3, and it was an absolute hit.
When the D800 released, people thought it would be a D700 successor and it turned out being something totally different. It was a slower, high resolution camera, not at all the smaler version of a D4. Some people also hoped the D600 to be the D700's successor, but again, that was not it, as the D600 was intended to be an entry level body with a much worse AF system that the 51pt system you'd find in the D3/D700/D4/D800, replacing it with the D7000's 39pt AF.
When the Df was announced, people got hopeful : it had the D4's magnificent sensor, it was in the same price range as the D700, it was basically the same size (minus the smaller grip), it was built to the same standard, yada yada yada. We all thought we had our D700 sucessor. Alas, Nikon wasn't in such an urge of getting more market share this time around, so they had no reason to make the Df too good, like they did with the D700. True, we got the D4's sensor and besides styling and build quality that it one of the best things about the Df. BUT, they put in there the slower, less accurate 39 point AF from the D600 and that was a let down. Not only did it make zero sense to have an entry level AF in a camera that expensive, but it was also just not up to par with the AF in the D4, not in a long shot. And while the D700 with a vertical grip could get within 1fps burst speed to the D3, the Df could never touch what the D4 could do. And the worst part about it is that the lack of AF accuracy also translates in manual focus. While the D700's focus alert dot is pretty darn accurate, the D600, D700 and Df are much less accurate, telling you you're in focus when in fact... well you're not. On top of that, the Df still is extremely expensive today, maybe for the styling.
Oddly enough, we wouldn't get a true D700 successor in spirit until the Z8. People really got ahead of themselves with the Df when it was released...
(I still want one lol)
The Df was never designed to be a tool for high burst rate photography. The AF system works just fine unless you want to shot action type stuff which, again, the camera was never designed to do.
i'm afraid to ask how much luggage you were lugging around.
always a struggle :P
Your living in your own private Idaho

Why would anyone go to Toronto? (Except for the food)
