    This is funny because when I was a kid I use to think lightning was god’s wrath. I also use to think rain was god’s sorrow. Those beliefs didn’t come from outta thin air. They were passed down from generation to generation.

    • @KrelianLoke
      @KrelianLoke 2 месяца назад +3

      They may be genetically passed down. The sheer loudness of thunder strikes fear, and lightning creates preemptive suspense for that fear.
      Rain tends to make both predators and preys go into hiding to not get wet, making all the proactive and defensive jungle affairs come to a pause, thus allowing all creatures to feel calm and restful and some room to feel emotional.
      The feelings arising from these phenomena are quite natural, but humans being humans we need to anthropomorphize and personify whatever we encounter in nature and assign some imaginary deities to them.

    Some people thousands of years ago were able to write down what they think or believe. There is no reason to deny that those descriptions exist. Whether what people did believe and write about was true or not is a completely different question. Norse, Greek and Roman mythologies were all believed by lots of people and described in writing with gods representing natural fenomena people had no explanation for back then. Religions today are just the same. Nobody is denying that religious literature is full of claims. Whether we believe them or not is something else.

    ( cos thats what the writings evidenced. Their thoughts etc. )
    And us knowing those thoughts must mean god is physically real, just cos they thought it.
    No one tries to say the "lightning gods" were physically real, cos the writings say it.

Believing/knowing that people thought lightning was caused by gods is demonstrable through anthropology, history, etc. What Christians (essentially) do is say anthropology/critical scholarship is not needed because they know the claims within the belief are true. We absolutely know that 2K years ago people believed in Jesus; that’s not an extraordinary claim at all.

      We can't absolutely know, all the way to solipsism. However, we can judge which things are more likely to be true than others, especially with corroborating evidence. "But how do we know that evidence isn't also forged?" You don't, but is there any evidence of massive forgery of historical evidence? "Of course not, they wouldn't put it in the forgeries!"
      It's a good thing nobody takes what's said in old books as the absolute, unchanging, 100%-certain truth but the religious.

The Name of the Game was/is Control. Power and Money. Listen and Obey to our God(s) because it/they is/are ALL Powerful and All Knowing. If You do not. Your Life and After Life will be Pure Misery !
