SWISS A330 Business Class in 2024. NOT quite impressed. A Trip Report.

  • Many years ago, Swiss installed a business class that offered a variable softness or stiffness of the seats, through air chambers, like an air mattress I guess. However, these chambers are being inflated or deflated everytime I do the slightest movement, which is super annoying, and I can't believe after so many years, they still have this terrible hard product. And I know that I'm not the only one complaining about these seats.
Anyway, this trip took me onboard an Airbus A330-300 from Boston Logan to Zurich, in Business Class, and luckily the nice cabin crew compensated for the lack of comfort.

Last week I flew Swiss Business Class again (spontaneous upgrade from Economy), but on an Airbus A340-300. To my surprise, it was different than the A330 hard product; larger screen, more storage space, modern seat and IFE control. It looks like a subtle upgrade, and I wonder if the A330 will also get this upgrade. But the crappy air cusions are still installed, so the comfort improvement is subtle as well. Flight review of the A340 Business Class will follow.

Swiss is not owned by Switzerland anymore and is not a state spoiled airline like some other carriers getting the newest plane and the best business class even before the product hits the market. That is the reason why it is important to compare things that can be compared. But, still a good news: Swiss will replace everything that is now outdated soon. The new product, Swiss Senses, looks amazing and I am looking forward to it.

Swiss its not Swissair I agree with you and now owned by shit Lufthansa but today Swiss its not something special they dont have new airplanes I understand but what about Catering their catering its poor and its really shame for country like Switzerland to be stingy and offer such a poor experience to their guests at least they can improve their on board experience which is really poor right now for example better meal presentation better quality more premium airline exprience and new product will arrive in 2025 if arrives because its been 10 years shithansa lufthansa wants to update their planes with 1-2-1 and still we are waiting its horrible airline group I wish they were all separate Lufthansa destroyed many airlines including Austrian and Sabena

I am glad that i saw your content on unimpressed business class service from Swiss.
I flew Swiss Business class JFK - ZRH - DXB Return in march and i felt the same way. Seats were cramped, food was terrible, planes were outdated, cabin crew was not that nice. The only good thing that I can tell on my four sectors that I flew was the swiss Business class lounge at ZRH was quite nice.

I flew Swiss A330 business as well. Terrible hard product, okay-ish soft product offering. The service of the cabin crew was EXCELLENT which was the saving grace.

I see you were lucky with the crew, nice. Unfortunately a pleasant crew experience isn’t always guaranteed I noticed. But my recent flight with Swiss was also good in terms of service.

Great review as I am old school as LX Swiss is not up to standard as SR Swissair was in 1986 DC10-30ER and A310-200 days service international long haul was superb glassware with great food in economy class bring back SR! Loss of a great airline. Times have changed LX is not SR and you can see it!

I agree, unfortunately it is true. Flying has become affordable to more people, but at a cost, respectively cut back. At least business class comfort (lie flat) and innovation overall has improved, as some are even better than the 1990‘s first class, IMO.

@@forgotmypassport I agree industry travel very cheap post deregulation October 1978 USA and spreading across the globe noted and had full service in 1980 with Hughes AirWest DC9 15 RC and with United Airlines and Western Airlines hot meals domestic. And carbon paper tickets and boarding passes. Later on with TWA visit USA Air Pass 1983 L1011 B747 MD80 domestic flights it was great.
      SR was a big loss
I miss SR but LX is not SR.

Only on their narrow body fleet, but I didn’t film. They had the usual European Business class, Economy Class seats with empty middle seats. On their wide body fleet they seem to have the same hard product as Swiss, just different colours. As much as I’d like to try the EDW longhaul service, the fare has to be really, really good before I book then.

One more in a row of nicely made reports.
    Thanks for sharing! 👍
I'm with you... LX Business-Class seats are outdated and meanwhile among the less comfortable ones in the industry, especially on overnight flights and whenever you intend to take a nap or sleep for some hours.
I don't really care for the main meal service on these eastbound flights but would rather prefer to have a good und delicious filling breakfast therefor instead.
Including an omlet or scrambled eggs , fresh and warm bread rolls and croissants, some butter, marmelade, cheese and fruits to choose from.
Such breakfast known from the good old Swissair days! ✈🇨🇭
Breakfast is where you definetely get to see and feel the bad LH-Group influence.
Downgrading service and cost saving on the wrong end! 🤷
Unfortunately something that became more or less standard on most eastbound hops over the pod.

Thank you very much for the great feedback and opinion, which I share 100%. I used to fly SWISS a lot for work, but it’s been a while since my last Swiss Business Class longhaul flight, and somehow I remembered the overall experience a bit nicer (except the seats, which I always dreaded). Maybe Swiss indeed downgraded the experience. Or i just got spoiled:)) Anyway, I‘m always comparing with other airlines Business Class, and this one was barely average, unfortunately.

Hello there; thank you for your helpful review. I am looking for suggestions on which airline to fly for my family of four traveling from NYC to Milan in mid-July to attend a concert for my daughter’s 13th birthday. We are looking for a comfortable business experience without exceeding our budget of 12k.
We have previously flown business class with Air France, which was perfect and discounted, three years ago.
I have been searching for good deals and, thankfully, found some helpful options. However, I had a bad experience with a US-based company that didn't seem to care about finding a good price.
I have received recommendations for Lufthansa, Swiss, and Austrian, all within our budget range, but I am still unsure based on some of the video reviews that I have seen.
However, other popular airlines are beyond our budget. I have also watched a review of Virgin Atlantic, which looked like an authentic business experience but was too expensive for us.
Finally, this is a special treat for us, as we do not fly business on a regular basis, maybe every three years, if that.
If anyone has any suggestions, they would be most welcome.

From my experience, special business class offers vary on season and airline marketing campaigns. Last time I crossed the Atlantic Icelandair had a decent good offer, changing aircraft in Keflavik. But it’s not a high end business class like with Singapore Airlines or Etihad.

Swiss air really sucks!!! I usually fly Luftansa, but since they partner with Swiss Air, I was booked with them in business class for my return flight. HUGE MISTAKE. STAY AWAY!!! First they forced me to pay more for a seat in Business class (an additional $179) because the seat next to my partner was not available. When onboard, the seat next to my partner was empty, in fact many seats were empty. To make matters worse, I ordered the vegetarian meal for my partner, but I confirmed a regular meal selection for myslef. They told me that I had selected the veg meal as well. That meal was a complete joke. They refused to accommodate me with a regular meal. They said they had to wait for a passenger to reject their meal in order to give me a regular meal. What?? Everyone had a choice of chicken or beef, and there were many empty seats, yet they could not accommodate me? First class only had two people in it, they couldn't get a meal from there? Offering chocolates ad-nauseum does not remedy the situation. Never again!!!!
