I received a bottle for my birthday. May be the first peated scotch I’ve really enjoyed. Very well balanced. Sweet up front with spice and finishing smoky with a hint of brine. Again the key word is balanced. Very drinkable. Thanks for the review. After my first tasting, I drank along with you, definitely opened up my tasting. 😎
Got the first bottle of higland park 12 a couple of days ago and i have to say i am not disappointed at all! This is a great one in my opinion. So tonight the feet go up fast and the Whisky goes down slow ;) Sláinte my friends!
HP 12 was my one of favorite on beginning of my whisky journey. Now I prefer a little more alcohol strength. I really like twisted tattoo, and my recent HP which I enjoy very much is Viking Tribe from amazon exclusive.. skål...
I love this whiskey. Flowry honey, Baking spices, and some malt. I also get a hint of orange. I am amazed that this is a peted whiskey because you can barely tell that it's there. And it is not the harsh peak type it is more flowery. I love the scotch and and put off by snobs that consider this a beginner whiskey. I will always have a bottle.
While I do like the viking honour, I like the previous core 12 a bit better. I recently found a local store that had a dusty stash of the pre-branding change 12, 15, and 18. I did a side by side comparison of the 12s and 18s. All were delicious. My current favorite pour is the freya. If you can find the dark origins is is also really good. Like you mentioned, I always recommend the viking honour as a good introduction to smokier single malts.
I very much like your reviews. You seem like a "regular" person sharing your whiskey experiences with the average person. I just purchased the older version of Highland Park 12 and I'm looking forward to trying it. Thanks!
Ooooooo! That should be very exciting! I havn't tried the older version of the 12 but I've done a side by side of the old and new 18s. I believe that newer versions have a larger share of bourbon barrel aged whisky. Not just because of color (I'm pretty sure HP don't add coloring) but also because of more dark fruit notes typically associated with sherried whiskies. I love Highland Park and would love to track down a bottle of the old 12 😁 Enjoy!
Cracked a bottle of HP12 this evening (Friday!) and looked up reviews (as I do) and sprung this one. Really helps one decipher whats going on. Delightful. G'day from AU.
I do believe it is called pith, but I'm not going to google that. No time. Just gotta say thanks for mentioning the earthnotes < new word, just invented it (maybe) and no you can't use it haha...yes you can. Just left a comment on another vid (someone elses) about there being too much talk about sweet w/o a qualifier in these 12yo single malts. I am glad that you mention the earthnotes too, well what I'm calling earthnotes at least(pith, grassy field and all). Am looking forward to opening this dram in a weeks time just to see for myself how reviewers are tasting what I taste. After all, the reviewers whos palette is close to mine are the ones I may find going back to most often to make decisions on a scotch; that is probably old news to you all, but I am very amateur at this. Much thanks for reviewing this and cheers!
Great review! I enjoy your casual, happy review and commentary. I am planning on purchasing HP12 soon as my first smoky dram, and really liked your "sweet leather" description on one of the notes. First time seeing one of your videos and you now have a new subscriber from Toronto, Canada. Cheers! 🥃
@@swedishwhiskygirl it went well, the second time lol. The first time I tried it I made a side by side with Glenfiddich 14, it was abad idea, the smoke was all I could smell. I knew it was a mistake so I tried it again by itself the next day and enjoyed it. The smoke is not too much and I don't dislike the notes that are new to me, they make sense and are in harmony. A good purchase and recommendation, thank you. CHEERS! 🥃

Of HP10 HP12 Valkyrie and Valfather i prefer HP12 as a daily drum, Valfather is something more intense darker sweeter a bit special for me, and Valkyrie is a great company for cigar. And missing word is pith :) Also what many people miss is that highland park has heather honey taste its more sour than popular ones - a bit citrus in some way - maybe that is what you feel ?
HP for sure makes some gorgeous whiskies - for different occasions! Yes of course - Highland Park is known for that lovely honey notes, especially alongside the leather and earthiness of it. I’ll have to look for that citrus note next time I try it 🙏🏼🌟
Hi I tasted the older version of highland Park 12 and the new version i found out that both are different from each other, at least for me, does anyone have the same opinion?
Johan Carlsson Tack så mycket - vad glad jag blir! Har faktiskt inte provat HP 18 på rätt länge men minns det som oerhört trevlig! Du får berätta vad du tycker när du provat 12an? ☺️
HI! Just finishing a bottle of highland park’s new expression, the cask strength. like many,I I was craving a highland park expression with a bit more oomph or power. it seems that you are ok with the lower abv... ? on an unrelated note, i see the isle of mull represented behind you courtesy of tobermory. have you reviewed the ledaig 10? I quite like it, but I would be interested to know your thoughts and impressions... skoal!
Hello 👋🏼 So did you enjoy the cs? Or did you want a bit more power on top of that? I don’t mind the abv of the 12 - I think it has some lovely flavours and the smooth character complements them. If I want a bit more power there’s other whiskies I would turn to ☺️ I haven’t reviewed Ledaig yet, but I hope to do so soon - I’ve tried some lovely expressions from them in the past 🥃
@@swedishwhiskygirl hi! it’s been a while. the HP cask strength was quite fun, packing the punch that I craved. for the price, though, maybe it’s a tad overpriced: even among HP expressions, the 18 is about the same price and deeper, more complex and balanced, for sure. speaking of 18, I bought the ledaig 18 recently for my birthday, and I definitely recommend it! luxurious from the presentation through to the finish!
This along with the Bunnahabhain, and the Kilkerran, make for the top 3 12 year old Scotches. All very affordable, approachable and yet different enough to what else is out there at the same price point in the industry.
I don’t mind HP but there are just tooooo many versions and names do as to be incomprehensible. Changi airport DFS stores just have a wall of various HP and it makes you wonder if all the shiny packaging is for the travel market. It’s a safe haven whisky 🥃 but I personally prefer Old Pulteney and Clynelish when reaching for a more northern whisky
Hey really good review I get a very citrus note on the nose A very low note honey I am biscuits and would burgers on the side of my tongue I love this is very good thanks for the review send some stuff my way
HP12 is readily available at the home bar. I appreciate that it's good quality, dependable, and uncomplicated but not boring. Also have HP18 (not Viking Pride) and the Dark 17 but unlike the 12, neither are everyday drams for me. But I love Highland Park and I'm proof that money spent on marketing is justified (I'm certain I have some Viking in me!). And I think what you were referring to (ie "the white stuff") is the pith. Bowl!
“Pith” is the word you’re looking for. The white stuff between the rind or zest on the outside of the orange and the fruit itself.
Thank you 🙏🏼

I quite like the Twisted Tattoo as well! How would you say the Viking Tribe compares? I haven’t had the chance to try it ☺️
@@swedishwhiskygirl viking tribe is more smoky then 12yo, quite young and fresh whisky with malt sweetness , lots of citrus, carmel, and vanilla
Great video and lovely voice for audio. Altogether a thorough review. Thanks
