What Happened To Stealth Games?

- Stealth has become a side portion in most video games today instead of being a main focus. Back in the late 90s into 2012 we had numerous games focused purely on stealth oriented gameplay. Sneaking by, avoiding conflict, or handling a situation using guile and thievery. Now you will only see games that are fast action based titles rule the scene. Is stealth as a genre dead? Or is it just waiting to come back stronger then ever.
Stealth is my favorite genre, so a couple things:
Someone finally acknowledging Styx. The character isn't the best, but the level design and the way it plays is top quality stealth.
I've heard Sekiro was almost a Tenchu game, but they decided a new IP was better. It's clearly Tenchu-inspired, and hopefully stealth will be a viable playstyle rather than only a tactic to reduce the number of enemies you have to fight.
Deus Ex is in trouble with how Mankind Divided performed, so hopefully Square-Enix doesn't ditch the series to put all of their Western franchise money into Tomb Raider.
Assassin's Creed had steadily been making its way towards proper stealth, with Unity finally adding an actual crouch button and more nuanced missions rather than "parkour to the target and then press X to kill them," but they never treat the games as stealth games. They always try to throw in as much variety of activities and missions as they can even when some of them aren't much fun. And now that the series is moving to open-world RPG with Origins and Odyssey, stealth is becoming just a tactic instead of the purpose of the game.
Dishonored is probably on break for now, but Arkane is also probably finished with Prey now that the DLC is out. With any luck they'll be able to make a new game/ IP now, but I feel like it'll be an RPG, or something different entirely. Which would be a shame, because Dishonored 2 has the best stealth game level design since Thief 2.
I really have an issue when horror games are put in the stealth genre though. Stealth in horror games is a means to survive, while in the stealth genre it's to empower the player. Survival horror doesn't have the same focus on discovery and player expression that proper stealth games do.
Thanks for checking out the video! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on alot of the mentioned games. I can agree that deus ex has taken a big downward turn since square enix got involved with it. Hopefully for the sake of stealth, these franchises they can get a hold of things.

Why nobody talk about Stealth RTS games like Commandos and Desperado? Anyway a lot of peoples hate Hitman absolution despite the fact that it was a decent game. It's just not as good as Blood Money but it's definitely not a bad game. Peoples complaint about Hitman absolution just like it was the worst Hitman game ever made, but actually it was Hitman codename 47 which is the worst hitman game ever made. For me Hitman absolution still better than codename 47 and contract.

Blood money is AMAZING best hitman ever. Might even make a video series playing it through on max difficulty silent assasin lol

Nobody really seems to give new blood to the genre. Theres alot of interesting online components that could be had with stealth games
