Is The Razer Panthera Worth It Today

  • The razor panthera was on sale last year for 130$ worth it?
Well, that depends on your preferences. In my own words, it wasn't a valued product. I have a current fightstick (madcatz te pro) which still works great. If I was collecting these products, or if I needed a new product I say 130$ was a fair asking price. I do not believe anyone should be paying over that amount for this exact model though. The dragon ball fighterz version, or even the SFV sticks are a newer production model. What I review here is the base stick from 2016. I had 2 defects with my panthera and returned it immediately. You would expect a little more from Razer, but it seems they live up to their bad reputation.
Here is a link to the replacement cable for the razer panthera. This replacement is only meant for the panthera. I have no relation to this website and simply mentioned it as a means to keep a product functional.

I have had a Razer Panthera for almost 4 years. It was my first arcade stick and the first impression was great. A luxury product that I bought for $150 on a sale. I haven't had any problems with the stick.
Lately I have been playing Tekken a lot, and since this stick is old I decided to modify it so that it is not outdated. I bought an EZ Mod with the Brook Universal Fighting Board Kit for the razer panthera, a taeyoung fanta lever, some high grade aluminum control panels w/ NOIR type button design and couldn't be happier with the result. All this I bought from the arcadeshock site.
The razer panthera, thanks to its large size, allowed me to easily install the Korean lever that I bought from it. It feels a lot heavier, due to the aluminum control panel I installed. I like that it feels heavy. And I keeped the cable that still works. In the worst case, if it stops working, I can replace it with a USB type A-B cable, thanks to the connector on the board that supports that cable. The plexy glass was difficult for me to remove, but once you do, you forget about it forever.
I had plans to buy the Omni Arcade Stick Korean Edition from etokki, but bringing it to my country would cost me much more than the original price. So I decided to modify the razer panthera that I already had.
Is it worth buying an original razer panthera arcade stick in the middle of 2021 ?. Yes, ideally buy it used in good condition or in a sale the DBZ fighters edition.
The razer panthera is currently discontinued, and I have only seen that new edition of DBZ fighters in my region.
On the arcadeshock site you can find many parts to upgrade or replace this arcade stick. In a few months I hope they print artworks, which is a service that will soon be available on their site.

I think you hit the right points on this review, well explained because it's also applicable to me. I got a Panthera recently and it came with RUSTED OUT usb connector.... Amazon sent me a replacement. The replacement although had all the protective plastic wraps, somehow the ps4 touchpad had a scratch on it. And the Lid when closing, a corner hits the release button, so you have to slightly push the top to the side before closing it.
Sounds like a really bad QC over at Razer along with possibly recycled parts as my Sanwa buttons had some micro swirls etc.
I got it on sale so I suppose it's ok but I'm still contemplating keeping it at all.

My friend I am very sorry to hear about these issues you had. I've seen stories of people have absolutely 0 issues with their stick, so I'm unsure if we're in a minority or what but these problems are real. If you like the build quality / feel of the box itself, I would keep it depending on your sale price. But if you are just "eh" on the whole thing like I was, you are probably safer going with a Qanba product, or even the new Victrix if you're looking for something extravagant.

I also have the panthera but have had no issues like you had but the only complain I have is that it does not have a easy way to customize the art work other than that it works great. I do have the Dragon ball Z version don't know if that makes a difference but nice video never be afraid of your opinions that's what makes everyone agree on disagreeing.

The only reason I would buy a Razer Panthera is to tear it apart and rebuild it into what I truly want. I'd start by...
1] DE soldering that crap detachable cable port, and replacing it with the Arcadeshock Secured USB, or RJ-45 mod and not have to worry what happens with the proprietary cable. Depending on the modification I do, I'd mod the cable into an RJ-45 to USB.
2] Replace the defective button, to see if that's the problem. If the problem persists, replace the motherboard with the Brook Fusion.
3] Install the Brook UFB Fusion [and later a Brook Retro Board along with it...]
All this could become very expensive quickly, so if I were to get it, it would be because I got it at a thrift store, or flea market.
I had an Akishop model Hitbox Multi-console that had an inconsistent button [up, and another button was failing. I replaced the button, but the problem persisted, so I swapped it out for the Retro Board, then the UFB, then added the Retro Board to it. Currently it's my best stick.
If your Razer Panthera is that bad, GET RID OF IT!!! Especially since it's still under warranty.

I have the TE2+ and I can truly say that I love the quick opening feature, not just for easy modding but also for storing parts and whatever else. Like I can stash my drugs in there lol jk. But seriously, I have a Link shaft and it's nice to be able to keep it in there along with any spare parts, plus I don't have to worry about a crappy cable door that might explode at any minute.
MadCatz really hit the mark with the TE2, it has everything you could want.. opening lid, easy artwork changing, optional colored panels, solid build. It's still one of the best sticks you can get right now, even if you get one with a PCB issue they're easy enough to fix. Got mine practically new for $125 and it was worth every cent! (Hope I sold you on the TE2+ lol).

Very nice review man. You weren't afraid of sharing your opinion on certain aspects. I too prefer the Mad Catz fightsticks, if only because they are cheaper. I checked yesterday and you can still buy a TES+ for 129$ on Amazon. I see no reason to pay the additional 70$ for a Panthera, just to get the opening mechanism. Come one, how often do you need to open your stick?
I will add, that I most certainly see no reason to drop a whopping 350$ for the new Victrix fightstick. To me, it's like buying an Armani suit- for the same price you can easily get a bespoke suit that will fulfill your every whim.

@@GM_Yorri I agree. I use the MC Soul Calibur V X360 stick for Tekken and have several other MC sticks, all but one bought used on the UK eBay for a fraction of the retail price. Unless you're rich, I always suggest newcomers on forums to buy a new or used MC stick- there are many barely used sticks that are being sold cause the owner couldn't make the transition from pad.

i own 6 Panthera's (i supplied them to friend who owns an Esports Bar) and never and an issue with them despite the "casuals" that like to button mash on them they have even had drink spilled on them and been ok, are they the Madcatz TE2+ NO...but they are a solid mid price stick at home i was using Etokki Omni because it was nice weighted and i liked the metal case that it was in but i also use TE2+ and Quanba Dragon, what you simply have with your stick is a loose harness or just need to re connect button. The PCB on Razer sticks is pretty solid and its usually the cable harness or button itself that is at fault and lucky those two things are easy to repair and cheap to replace USA warrantee and service on parts seems to be pretty bad with all products i am in Asian Oceanic Region (AUS) and get 3-5 years warrantee on all products purchased within region as my countries consumer law dictates.

Hori, Razer, Qanba. None of them are perfect, but I'll go for Hori. Because Qanba's option button is membrance, Razer's cable replacement problem and plastic panel. I totally agree with this guy the Razer panthera looks amazing at first sight but it has 2 mayor flaws, first Is very hard to replace the artwork of the stick you must buy a new plaxy glass and a lot of effort to remove the default artwork, second the usb cable hard screw mechanism is not that convenient and it is extremly hard to replace on top of that if you damage your usb cable your stick is pretty much dead.
