    Meditating on the sound of OM (or AUM) is one of the most powerful meditations you can do. OM meditation is relaxing, it can help you sleep, it can help ground you in the present and it can awaken your inner powers. This is known as mantra chanting, and the mantra being chanted here is OM - the most powerful and effective mantra of all!

    You do not need to do anything other than sit quietly, eyes closed, and absorb the sound of OM. You may wish to join in the chant to make it even more effective through the vibration of the OM chant in your body.
    After you have practiced this a few times, OM meditation will take you into a deeply meditative state pretty quickly. OM is the original sound, the primordial sound, the first sound of creation. Primordial sounds are the most basic sounds of nature.
    We chant OM 108 times in this recording. There are many and varied explanations of why 108 is a significant number in mediation and chanting;108 is the number of beads on a mala, and 108 is significant in that it connects the earth the sun and the moon.
    You cannot see OM, but your whole being senses it. Regular meditation on the sound of OM will open up the path to the highest knowledge, bliss and realisation. It will ground you in the present moment and allow you to see all things clearly.
    The sound is actually A-U-M, starting with "Ahhh" at the back of the throat, "Uhhh" at the centre of the mouth and "Ummm" at the lips. Try that now, with each sound taking around two seconds, or longer if you can. There is a vibration that occurs with this sound, vibrating through the whole body. To feel it, it is best to have your eyes closed. The connection of breath and the complete sound of OM, the vibration that occurs, is a powerful experience when you can relax into it completely.
    Complete the experience by sitting in silence and allowing yourself to absorb the effects. Try not to analyse anything - simply observe.
    The OM sound will be experienced differently by different people, but I feel and see it as opening up of the petals of a flower - the flower being the soul. Energy and tranquility can both be found through the power of AUM mediation or AUM chanting.
    This is also used as a meditation to get to sleep easily. Simply listen to the sound, following the rise and fall of the tones, and you will be asleep in no time. Insomnia can be a thing of the past!
    OM meditation or particularly OM chanting is also very effective in a group setting and if you can find a group to participate in I highly recommend it. The power attracted by being in a group situation can be amazing, or even a bit overwhelming! My next upload is a "rolling OM" where each participant joins in in their own time. This is another of my most favourite chants that I really want to share! The yogis in ancient India chanted the OM mantra to connect to their soul. We chant OM today in their footsteps to activate our connection through mind, body and spirit.
