  • Hi there! Now more than ever it is important to get your lungs into the best state of health that you can. These simple exercises will help to open the airways and clear the lungs to make breathing easier. When your lungs are working well, your immune system will function more effectively, helping you to stay well.
The simple movements in the video will help to open up the bronchial airways. These, and the smaller bronchioles, are the passageways that carry air into the lungs and body to nurture us with fresh oxygen. This is such an important function, we need it to work well and efficiently - not to feel like an effort. Do these exercises daily and you will improve lung function.
Breathing problems can be very serious issues. Always follow your doctor's advice and let him know you are planning on doing these exercises. Lung exercise is similar to exercising any other part of your body. Lungs need to move, to have the muscles around the lungs opened up to become more flexible to support the breathing function.
Breathing is an automatic function, but one that we can also control if we choose to do so. For those who suffer from anxiety, the ability to recognise when the breath is shallow, and to slow down and lengthen the breath, is very important. The beginning of that recognition is to use exercises to become aware of the area around the lungs and allow it to open up and function well.
Doing these exercises for around 10 to 15 minutes a day can really start to make a difference. When you can see that they are helping, see if you can do the exercises for longer for greater effect.
We all want to breathe easy and it is scary when the breathing function is compromised. Yoga can help you to breathe better & more freely. The exercises can be used by those suffering from asthma and bronchitis, but with caution and under your doctors guidance. After you have had a cold it is good to use these exercises to help get your lungs functioning properly again. Send your lungs some love - with this Love Your Lungs practice!
Aim to do these exercises for 10 days and see the difference at the end of that time period. A simple test is to count the length of your extended inhalation and exhalation both at the start and at the end, preferably using a timer to make sure there is consistency!
