Another cool video. Here’s my VH ranking: 12. Van Halen III 11. Balance 10. OU812 9. F.U.C.K. 8. 5150 7. A Different Kind of Truth 6. Diver Down 5. Van Halen II 4. Women and Children First 3. Fair Warning 2. 1984 1. Van Halen
‘5150’ was one of my gateway albums into Rock & Metal & will always be my favourite by them! The ‘hello baaaaby’ is an iconic & brilliant intro Darcy, have you been on the Trooper beer again, lol! One band I always wished I’d seen live! I’ve watched ‘Live without a net’ so many times!! Great ranking mate & not an easy one to do at all! Always enjoy hearing your thoughts on music my friend!! ‘Goodbye Baaaaaby’!! 😂😂🤘🏻
I know you’ve talked about 5150 several times on your channel , no surprise it’s your #1 . Yes the one a day Trooper helps me see clear & hear even better 🤣 Cheers mate
Van Halen was actually my 2nd concert I’ve been to after Ozzy Osbourne I seen them live twice here in Edmonton the reunion tour December 2007 and the different kind of truth tour May 2012 and I was just blown away by what I experienced they were both awesome shows🤘
Rest In Peace Eddie Van Halen You are missed 😢 💔. One of the most incredible artists to ever pick up a guitar. Ever since people heard the instrumental Eruption from the self titled debut album, people have tried to master what Eddie did with his fingers, but nobody has done it exactly as Eddie had. He was a heavyweight in rock n roll and NOBODY can and will take his place. We miss you 💔 but you are never forgotten.
Nice ranking video again. All good albums, i even like III to be honest. And yes, the singer did a good job on that album and also the guitar solos are really good on that album. BALANCE was a big album back in 1995, sold many millions and like it a lot. The last Van Halen album is my least fave and my fave is II or 1984 but love them all like i said. Nice video.
Great video, I've been going through the catalog since Eddie died. Still need to pick up copies of your #1 and #2, but I have the rest. Personally I think 5150 is underrated. You know I bet you could ask 25 people for their Van Halen ranking and not two would be the same.
12 - Van Halen 3 (1998) 11- For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991) 10 - OU812 (1988) 9 - Balance (1995) 8 - A Different Kind Of Truth (2012) 7 - Diver Down (1982) 6 - Fair Warning (1981) 5 - 5150 (1986) 4 - Women And Children First (1980) 3 - 1984 (1984) 2 - Van Halen 2 (1979) #1- Van Halen 1 (1978)
I’m more of a David Lee Roth guy when it comes it Van Halen. I’m not too crazy about the Van Hagar albums even though there’s a few songs with Sammy that I like. I still respect your opinion though :) Here’s my ranking: 1. Van Halen (debut) (not only my favorite Van Halen album, this is my favorite album of all time. Not burnt out on any song) 2. Van Halen II 3. Women and Children First 4. Fair Warning 5. Diver Down (most people bash this album because it has too many covers. They don’t sound like covers to me. To me they’re like original VH songs) 6. 1984 (for the longest time I was never a fan of “Jump” but a year ago, I’ve really grown to like it now and I’m not burnt out on the hits. “Hot For Teacher” is my favorite on here) 7. A Different Kind Of Truth 8. 5150 (it has a few track I like. I like Love Walks In, 5150, and Good Enough and I agree with your opinion on the “hello baby” part in that song) 9. F.U.C.K. (Runaround is really the only song I like off this one. Like I said I’m not the biggest Van Hagar fan) 10. OU812 (nothing on here I like. For some reason it just sounds lazy to me) 11. Balance 12. Van Halen III
Cool ranking ! First 6 in chronological order , you can’t go wrong with any of them ! I like what you said about the cover songs on Diver Down , that they sound like original Van Halen songs to you , I hear it too ! Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Awesome band and awesome ranking. I love both DLR and Hagar eras almost equally and don’t mind VH3 either as that was the only time I got to see them live was with Gary out front. 5150 I know word for word🤘🏼Ain’t talking about love intro was used on our late night weekly metal radio show back in the day. Great memories right there as when I heard it it was time to get a blank cassette out ready to press record. gotta go eat me some poundcake now cheers😝
Great Video Darcy, my favourite Van Halen albums always been the self titled debut with Van Halen II close second , definitely like the Roth era more but Some of the Sammy stuff is good , my favourite album Sammy ever did was the debut with Montrose, killer album , cheers man 🤘
Heck of an endeavor right there, ranking the mighty Van Halen! Good job. I would spend hours wresting about over VH1 and VH2. Cant pick, perhaps a slight hair over the line to VH 2. I pulled Van Cherone off the shelf a couple of years ago and started playing it again to see if I would change my opinion about it, I ended up liking it quite a bit. It was good, just hard for fans to process. Eddie never did anything that wasnt killer.
Great ranking. I actually saw van halen in 91 as well. But I also got to see them in 84 as well. I remember lining up overnight to get tickets. What a great party that was and the tickets were only 7.50.
Thanks for sharing. Your top 5 is in line with mine. I saw Van Halen in '82 & they were fantastic. The ticket cost was $12.50 but was free as my friend won a pair of tickets on the radio. He was the first to answer the question; who was their producer. Answer T.T. Cheers!
I still remember having seen "Poundcake" on tv in 1991 , the first music video from the album "F.U.C.K". Eddie Van Halen was playing his guitar with a drill. Then, of course I had to buy the album and it was fantastic, great Hard Rock album with no fillers. I remember Judgement Day having blown my mind with its fast pace. Unfortunately I have just checked my cassette collection while writing this comment only to find out that that album is one of my missing cassettes of my collection. Real bummer :(
1984 has always been the best! First heard eddie on the beat it solo! Eddie made the keyboards cool too!! Thanks for sharing ! God bless you buddy and savior JESUS keep you safe always! Why cant this be love🤘🤘
I only own one VH album and it is their first album so I do not have an overly deep experience with their discography. I should look at their fourth album and listen to it. I know the hits but that is about it. Nice ranking Darcy! Cheers and have a great weekend! 🤘🏼
Great video buddy, nice to see others opinions on albums, I think 1984 would be my favourite just for the memories of seeing jump on video hits back in 84’ cheers my friend
The big plus of Van Halen unlike to many other bands was their ability for reducing their albums to the essential (I mean the 70s and 80s work). There are rarely fillers on those. I enjoy all albums of that era. Thx for the video, Darcy.
Great ranking Darcy. I’m a fan but don’t own all there material. I have the Sammy era stuff on cd. You are 100% right when you say no one sounded like them at that time. The punch and the guitar tone Eddie got back in 78’ was unreal and still sounds huge to this day. I think his guitar tone in general is still unmatched. Anyway great ranking brother! Stay heavy
Best is definitely Fair Warning. Worst is definitely Diver Down. Lost interest after 5150 but I know they’re not as bad as Diver Down. Cool list Darcy. Horns up!
Unchained is one of my favorite VH songs too! I haven’t listened to their whole discography yet, but I prefer the DLR era from what I’ve heard. It would’ve been so cool to see them live during that era! Great ranking video!! 🤘🏻
I would of loved to see them in the early 80’s ! Honestly you can’t go wrong with most of their discography , they all have EVH on them right lol . Thanks very much 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Usual suspect checking in under code 5150 to Planet6Strings, Darcy! Haha! Great to see a Van Halen Ranking. My list is pretty close to yours. I definitely skew to the Dave albums, but I do like the Sammy Era and saw the Ou812 and Balance tours. On a side note, I got a notification that I should get my Overkill vinyl box set next Wednesday, but won't relax until it is in my hands. 🤣🤣🤣 thanks for the great episode and Stay Frosty! Lol!!
I got my notification on the Overkill box set too , I can’t wait ! It’s hard to beat those early Roth era albums , ahead of their time I say lol . Have a great weekend Stephen 🤘 Stay Frosty with a side of Heavy :))
Hey man, great video and I’m not sure I’ve dropped a line to actually say how much I dig the channel. The more time that goes by, the more I really like VH3. I’d dare to say it’s ahead of its time, though I get the general consensus on it. It’s just so left field for them, which is definitely the appeal for me. Hoping one day the demos for that follow up with Gary Cherone will see the light of day, which I’ve only heard about whispered in hush tones..
Thank you very much 🤝 good to meet you ! I’d love to hear anything from the Van Halen vaults , hope it happens ! Please stop by anytime 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 posted today, Iron Maiden will be coming to Spokane, Washington September 30, 2022. I was at the June 1983 concert with Saxon, Fastway. It was general admission and $15 for the ticket. I got my tour program still, got a Fastway reprint shirt and World Piece Tour 1983 jersey. No prices posted yet for tickets. I know will be more than $15 though. 😳
Great ranking - mine is very near of yours 👍 It's almost impossible rank those first four but today mine (fab four) looks like that: 1) Fair Warning 2) Van Halen 3) Women and Children First 4) Van Halen II. See them live once in 1998, Jäähalli, Helsinki. I was very near of the stage, about 5 meters from Eddie. Great gig and it was fantastic see him play that closely - he's always been my ultimate guitar hero (with Ritchie Blackmore) 😉
Awesome ranking Darcy. I agree with you on Van Halen III. That album came out when the the high energy good time hard rock/metal music was still taking a unfortunate nose dive by the depressing grunge sound that was starting to finally fade. That artwork on that album says it all. Its horrible and dark. That being said this band is alway a go to for me. David and Sammy both Rock🤘🔥🤘.
Interesting ranking Darcy, defiantly a tough one actually, as any of your top 6 could be at no.1 I thought 5150 would have been higher up, that was a surprise to see it so low. Nice mention of that best of both worlds, it kind of covers everything, but also not at the the same time. I remember when I got it it never left my walkman for weeks, I just alternated the discs. Not even sure what my top one would be here, a top 6 in no order would be FW, VH, 5150,1984, Knowlage, w&cf.
Nice list, ours are fairly similar. I like Balance and 1984 a little more. My favorite is still their debut. That album literally changed the course of music. So many musicians were influenced and so many bands were signed because of them. The 80s hard rock music I love so much wouldn't have been the same without Van Halen.
Interesting video as always Darcy. I am not much of a Van Halen fan to be honest, but I will make sure to check out all of those albums. Can't wait for your 2021 top releases video 🤘 🍻.
I don’t really know if Van Halen made it big overseas , they were huge here in Canada and the United States ! I guess some bands you just had to be there lol . Like I always say there’s enough common ground in metal/hard rock for us to share ! Thanks as always my friend 🤘
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 my sister has been a huge Van Halen fan, since the 80's, so I guess they made it quite far outside of the 🇺🇸 and 🍁! I sent her a link to your video. I am sure she will like ☺.
Fair Warning has always been my favorite VH album. It was my introduction to the band. My ranking would go something like this: Fair Warning VH1 Women And Children First VH2 For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge 1984 5150 A Different Kind of Truth Balance OU812 Diver Down VH3
Great video mate. I like a bit of Van Halen, but never really felt compelled to pick up all their stuff, not sure why. I do love For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge alot though. Like you said its heavier and probably just "bigger" sounding and the songwriting has maybe a more serious feel, Judgement Day is my favourite track off that album.
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge I’d awesome , Judgement Day is one of favourites too ! Hope you check out a few more of their albums ! Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment , always appreciated 🤘 Cheers mate
I’m with you in general. VH - especially the Diamond era - has been my favorite band since I was introduced via Fair Warning … my ranking - 1-Fair Warning. 2-Van Halen. 3-1984. 4-Van Halen ll. 5-Different Kind of Truth. 6-Women and Children First. 7-Diver Down. 8-5150. 9-For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. 10-Van Halen lll. 11-OU812. 12-Balance. I can say - except for Balance - I truly love each album (even the unusual VH lll).
I remember getting into Van Halen way back in early 1984 , it was so fun buying all their back catalogue & hearing it for the first time ! Thanks for sharing your ranking and thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Okay here's mine 12. Van Halen 3 11. Balance 10. 5150 9. Ou812 8. For unlawful carnal knowledge 7 A different kind of truth ( need more time with it) 6. Diver Down 5. 1984 (came out when I was 18) 4. Women and children first The next two is when I saw them live at 14 yrs old 3. Van Halen 2. Van Halen II 1. Fair Warning The last four has changed a few times.
Awesome ranking Darcy!! Absolute classic band, was so sad when Eddie passed away just over a year ago now. I still need to check them out properly, so this was a massive help on where to start. Cheers mate!! Only thing I've heard from Sammy Hagar is the first Chickenfoot album, and I thought his vocals were incredible! 😀🤘🤘
You being a guitar guy you definitely need to check some of these albums out ! I’ve heard the first Chickenfoot album , it was ok ! Thanks for stopping by 🤘 Cheers Josh
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Yeah for sure man! He was a revolutionary guitarist, got a lot to thank him for what he made possible on the guitar. I really do need to listen to them! I will at some point don't you worry. Ah ok that's Cool, yeah I liked it, mainly Joe Satriani's guitar playing! Welcome mate, always try to drop by when I can 😀😁🤘🤘👍
Want to listen to Sammy Hagar? Listen to the first montrose album, all 4 albums with Van Halen, and some his solo stuff like V.O.A, I Never Said Goodbye, Standing Hampton, and Three Lock Box.
@@aaronshoaf4644 I've listened to the first Chickenfoot album which he sings on and it's great! Didn't know of Montrose, I haven't listened to his Van Halen stuff yet. Also didn't know he made solo albums, cheers for your reccomendations
Great choices, I’m 25 and loved Van Halen, I saw them live in 2012. I personally like the Sammy era better and find myself listening to the Sammy era songs more, I feel like the band matured more once Sammy came on, however the David Lee Roth era was epic and groundbreaking, with very good music.
Van Halen and Van Hagar were both FREAKN' FANTASTIC!!! What an amazing collection of music. Love your order. 5150 would need to be bit hire in my personal list, but it's hard to argue with any order of VH albums lol. I was surprised by your number. That was cool! ...and yes...Me Wise Magic is a KILLER track that should have made a studio album lol.
I remember being so excited when that Best Of came out , 2 new DLR tracks & the song Humans Being from the Twister soundtrack with Sammy on vocals , all superb ! Thanks for stopping by 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Hi Darcy!! i discover VH around 84' so it wasn't a big shock seeing DLR leaving the band and then getting Sammy, who i had never heard before, back then..... I think your ranking would be very similar to mine, however i still don't own OU812 and VH3. However i can tell my two favorite songs, from the DLR era had to be "Unchained" and with Sammy "Humans Being".... cheers and be well
I was never into VH for some reason. I heard 5150 in ´86 and didn´t like it, I listened to their older records and did not like them either. So I´ve tried in the 80s, I´ve tried in the 90s, in the 2000s and so on.... maybe December 2021 is the time to try again?!? Great video though Darcy!
Hallo my friend What an awesome ranking(and many surprises IMO) 12. VH III very easy to rank 11. Diver down 10. OU 812 09. A.D.K.O.T. 08. 5150 07. Balance 06. F.U.C.K. 05 1984 04. Fair Warning 03. VH II 02. VH I 01 Women and children first 😍😍😍 Have a nice day and greetings from Heiko
Big Van Halen fan here, grew up with my dad really loving them so I've gotten big into 'em over the years. Whether it be the DLR or Sammy solo stuff, Sammy Hagar & The Circle, all of them, I love them all nowadays. For my ranking this'll be a weird one as my tastes have changed with Van Halen, as I used to dismiss the Sammy albums due to the mixing and production, always saying there was some amazing material in there... but then the remasters came out (I think they're more like remixes), and what I always thought was there shined through, now I love them a ton. I also was lucky enough to have seen Sammy on the Best Of All Worlds Tour last week which was AMAZING and made some special songs even more special for me now. Truly in my #10 favorite bands of all time man. #12 - VH III: Never need to hear it again, like ever... the songs are too long, seem to have little direction, and Gary didn't fit with the group in my opinion. #11 - OU812: Never been a fan of this one, I enioy some songs such as Sucker in a 3 Piece, Source of Infection, and A.F.U., Finish What Ya Started as well. But the mix in general isn't my thing and it just seems flat. #10 - A Different Kind of Truth: Once again a great album, despite Eddie's guitar and the Alex going crazy on the drums, Dave's vocals were already going out, and it just feels as incomplete without Mikey's vocals / screams. #9 - Balance: I really enjoy this album, it's heavy and Grungy for Van Halen. Seventh Seal is heavy, Big Fat Money sounds like an oldschool DLR Van Halen track, Can't Stop Lovin' You, while cheesy is fun and something for the ladies lol. #8 - 1984: Contrary to your views, this is a hits album for me, the deep cuts just don't do it for some reason in my opinion. Yes they're all classic Van Halen, and great when I'm on a Van Halen kick, but I've found when I go for this album, I just want Panama, Hot For Teacher, and Jump and the rest is just "enjoyable"... Maybe that's because I haven't worn them out yet though haha. #7 - Women and Children First: This album is definitely where the heavier side of Van Halen came in. Romeo Delight, Everybody Wants Some!, And The Cradle Will Rock are amazing; however, Toro Toro! and Loss of Control just don't do it for me. - Going forward these are all interchangeable depending on the month haha! #6 - Van Halen II: What used to be my favorite, I've since soured on just a little, maybe I just overplayed it... D.O.A., Women In Love, Light Up The Sky, Somebody Get Me a Doctor, holy crap the whole album is outstanding, I just overplayed it most likely. #5 - For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge: Coming back to real drums on this one, thank god, there's a real kick on this again, it's heavy, it's rockin', it's Van Halen baby. Judgement Day, The Dream is Over, Top of the World, Pleasure Dome... this has been spinning the most lately in my household. #4 - Diver Down: Strange one here, but I love this album so much, the vibe, the mix and production, the tracklist. It's just a very fun album, it's like a summer album if that makes sense. Where Have All The Good Times Gone, Pretty Woman, Full Bug, man it's fun. Love Happy Trails as a closer as well. #3 - Fair Warning: Unchained and Sinner's Swing, need we say more? Well yes, the bass and guitar tone on this thing are absolutely brutal. Mean Street, Dirty Movies, Hear About it Later... man cannot go wrong. #2 - 5150: Since the remix came out last year, I've been in love with this one. Love the intro to Good Enough, yeah it's cheesy but Dave was always cheesy so it fits for me. The Bass sound is killer, Eddie was being so innovative with the Synthwork and Guitars as always, Mikey and Sammy's voices worked very well together. Only thing that could make this better would be if Alex dropped the drum pads for REAL drums. But 5150, Dreams, and Best of Both Worlds are favorite of mine, not just from the album but all time. #1 - Van Halen I: It just has to be for me, Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, You Really Got Me, Atomic Punk, could go on with all the songs... it's perfect! Wanted to add this as I love the band so much, top #10 songs in no real order: Unchained 5150 The Dream is Over Best of Both Worlds Runaround Top of the World Runnin' with the Devil Humans Being Sinner's Swing Panama If ya read this essay, thanks brother haha, very much appreciated :)
Such a great comment, I read it over 3 times lol, thanks for taking the time to type all that out! So cool you got to see the show, Sammy is ageless! R.I.P. EVH 🤘
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 thank you mate, highly appreciated! Always happy to share my opinions in relation to music, especially when they're so drastically different from others' haha As for Sammy, yeah he truly is ageless, he sounds as good as ever in my opinion, Mikey too, he still has that high note, and then Satch and Jason were phenomenal on the guitar and kit respectively. Only been to three shows technically so far... Metallica (did both nights), Garth Brooks and now Sammy haha, don't think I have a favorite honestly, they all blew it out the water with how good they were!
Hi Darcy! My top 4 is the same, except the debut is my number 1. Diver Down never did much for me..it was a hasty recorded filler record. I looove FUCK! What an album..probably my number 5
I only have a Ramones Best Of album , not really big into then ! However I have a good friend who loves them , I’ll have as him if he has or will do a Ramones album ranking ! Thanks for asking 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Quite enjoyed this ranking although I can take or leave VH. I started to collect their stuff but I lost interest quite quickly. I’ve never heard Fair Warning though so I’ll give it a listen! Cheers Darcy!
1. Van Halen 1 2. Fair Warning 3. Women and Children First 4. 1984 5. Van Halen II 6. Diver Down 7. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge 8. A Different Kind of Truth 9. 5150 10. Balance 11. OU812 12. Van Halen 3
Somehow missed this notification, so I'm late to the party. But anyways: 1. Fair Warning 2. Women And Children First (recently rediscovered how great this album actually is) 3. VH I 4. Balance (yeah I know, lol) 5. 1984 (agreed about Jump, but Panama never gets old to me) 6. VH II 7. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge 8. 5150 9. A Different Kind Of Truth 10. OU812 11. VH III 12. Diver Down (only because I'm not sure I've ever heard the whole thing) Cheers!
I feel the same way you do about Women & Children First , such a classic ! I know Diver Down gets shit on but it’s worth a proper listen , only 2/5 of the cover songs are filler , 2 are ok to good & the lead off track Where Have All The Good Times Gone is like listening to a VH original , or it is to me lol . Thanks as always for commenting & watching 🤘 See you in the next one :))
I saw VH in ‘91 in Toronto. Alice In Chains opened. They only had Facelift out at he time and a lot of people hadn’t heard of them yet. They were great. It the crowd kept chanting “Eddie, Eddie” through their whole set. At the end, Layne Staley said “F-- you Toronto”, dropped the mic and walked off stage. VH was one of my gateway bends into hard rock and metal . VHII is my current fav. Poppy but with swagger and incredible riffs
Yes !! That’s who opened in Saskatoon Saskatchewan , damn I forgot about AIC ! Definitely one of my gateway bands too ! Thanks for watching 🤘 Stay Heavy out east !
Yes Tim no surprise at #12 lol ! I’ve been in a VH mood for a few days now , had a lot fun revisiting some of these albums I haven’t heard in a while ! As always thanks for watching 🤘
Who doesn't love Van Halen? Except maybe people in the UK who for some reason never got much exposure to them? I think my favorite VH is VH II and then VH. Those albums still sound like the future and not outdated whatsoever. Wouldn't mind OG press of those two lol. Cheers Darcy!
Do a DLR solo ranking! I know you said you don't want to, but there's only like one or two of those on RUclips. Good list other than putting 0U812 over A Different Kind Of Truth .;)
5150 is one of those albums where either people rank it high or rank it low, it’s almost based off of which era you prefer. I’ll admit, I tend to call it the Roth era and the Hagar era, but really it’s more like the Eddie Van Halen era. Both singers brought a lot to the table, and even though Roth was a great frontman, they got a very great singer in return. The song ‘Dreams’ of 5150 has to be my favorite Van Halen song. The lyrics are very good, the solos are very good, and Sammy does a phenomenal job singing. I’m a sucker for synthesizers, so 5150 is my 2nd favorite album of Van Halen, only behind the debut. It’s interesting when people rank bands discography’s, most tend to put the more classic stuff at the top and the stuff they did later on in the bottom (ex: KISS, Chicago, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Queen, etc).
Thanks for the great comment ! I really enjoy both DLR & Sammy , like you said they both brought a lot to the table & both had their strengths . Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers Aaron
My ranking for the Van Halen albums would be 12. Van Halen III 11. OU812 10. Balance 9. 5150 8. F.U.C.K. 7. A Different Kind Of Truth 6. Diver Down 5. Fair Warning 4. Women And Children First 3. Van Halen II 2. Van Halen 1. 1984
Hellloooo Darcy! I looked online and it said Alice in Chains were the support. When you said double entendres I just shuddered 😂, between that and the guitar solos I’m reaching for my running shoes. Never mind we can’t all like the same things.
🤣😂 Hello to you too ! Don’t worry I can take your “constructive criticism” lmao . I honestly think Van Halen was a band that didn’t make much of a dent in your part of the world !
So I just put together my own Van Halen rankings for a channel I hope to start early next year and I see this, lol. Fortunately are rankings are a little different but somewhat similar at the same time. Top 5... 1) VH II 2) Debut 3) 1984 4) Fair Warning 5) Women & Children First... The top 5 are all pretty close. Excellent video as always!
Despite not having heard three of their albums i can say our taste is pretty similar. Obviously some differences. My fave is Women And Children First, not a single bad song. Fair Warning's weak spot is Sunday Afternoon....i've never got it, just don't understand why it's on the album. Pasi
Not a band I've ever been bothered with to be honest. I appreciate that they were hugely influencial in the genre but just not for me. I'll take your word for it on the ranking!
Thank you I couldn’t remember the opening band for the life of me lol . I love both of those songs too great choices ! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Fair Warning is my number 1 and Van Halen III is at the bottom for me. I can agree with some of your placements. I’d probably have 5150 higher. I like both Roth and Hagar. Nice ranking.
Try out For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge if you get a chance , much heavier album compared to the first 2 with Sammy . Thanks for watching & sharing your ranking 🤘 Cheers from Canada
My ranking: 1. Van Halen 2. Diver Dawn 3. Far warning 4. Van Halen II 5. 1984 6. Womans and childrens first 7. A different kind... 8. 5150 9. F. U. C. K. And others The wrost album: Van Halen III
Great Ranking Darcy! I'm not the biggest Van Halen fan...maybe just a little too commercial. The only cassette I ever purchased by them was OU812 when it originally was released....See you in the next one!
Sorry it can’t be done I only like the first 5 albums , I don’t own anything after Adrenalize , I sold them off ! My favourite will always be High ‘N’ Dry !
I know I'm probably alone here but I've always preferred Hagar over Roth. 5150 is by far my favorite album. Incredible album from start to finish including Inside (:-) Definitely a different tune but it's kind of funky I like it. It's just goes to show you to each his own because you poo poo'd the album lol
I like both David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar but there are some troubles with the Sammy Hagar-era albums. 1. Production. Especially 5150 and OU812 could have sounded a lot better. They are very different and could both use a totally different kind of reworking. I would actually buy both albums if someone like Steven Wilson or Bob Ezrin would dare to do what is needed. 2. The quality of the songs/albums are spotty and the songs are often longer than David Lee Roth-era. A bad song that is short is not much of a problem. When a bad or mediocre song is like five minutes.. It does some damage to the album. 3. Lyrics. David Lee Roth wasn't a mastermind but had an attitude that worked with the music. Sammy Hagar can write good lyrics but often it's quite cliché-stuff or just bad. Like what you said about the beginning of "Good Enough". It sounds like Sammy Hagar trying to be David Lee Roth and does fail instantly. He should have written something more truthful to who he is. 4. I don't mind "pop". I rather have a well-written ballad or pop song than some desperate attempt to stay relevant in the rock world. "Balance" is a good example of that. Some might not like Can't Stop Lovin' You because it sounds like a "girl song" but I think it well-written and well played. Big Fat Money sounds like a very desperate try to keep interest from the crowd who then listen to more grunge. It's fast and heavy but sounds like coming from a band who never written a song before. I take Can't Stop Lovin' You anyday of the week before Big Fat Money. I think all Sammy Hagar-era albums contain good songs and some songs that could be on a Top 20 list or even Top 10 list but bascially everything that would rank low is also on those albums (not counting Van Halen III).
@@aaronshoaf4644 My ranking of Sammy Hagar years? 4. "OU812" (1988): With a production that frankly doesn't sound like a Van Halen album at all. Bascially all songs are longer than they need to be and most are quite forgettable. Offcourse there are some good moments. Like some chorus or guitar-stuff but overall this is my least favorite not named Van Halen III of their catalog. 3. "Balance" (1995): To me? Much better than OU812 but also a very spotty album. I glady listen to half of the tracks here but the others I could do without. There are some hidden gems here like Feelin' and Aftershock. 2. "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" (1991) or F.U.C.K. as some would call it. Probably the album that has aged best in production and is a quite fun listen all the way to the end. I do feel some songs get a bit repetitious though. It is also catchy meanwhile heavy which I think is what most Van Halen fans want. If someone who like the DLR-years wants to try to enjoy the Sammy years? I would start here. 1. "5150" (1986). How 1980's sounding can a album be? Like 5150! Some songs haven't aged well. "Good Enough" and "Inside" I feel are very weak moments on an album that had much to prove (a big band in their prime who's famous frontman left the band). Luckily songs like Dreams, Summer Nights, 5150 and Love Walks In are as strong as ever. Perhaps more poppy than the DLR years but musically just as good. If you could take the production value of F.U.C.K. and mix the best songs on it with the best on 5150? That could been a very good album!
@@JohannesYtterstrom that’s a good ranking! I also feel Why Can’t This Be Love and Get Up are very good on 5150. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge I actually haven’t listened to all the way through, but I really do like Poundcake, Judgement Day, and Top Of The World. Right Now is very good as well! Ou812 has half very good songs and others that are filler. Same with Balance.
my van halen album ranked: 1 - van halen 2 - 1984 3 - 5150 4 - ou812 5 - balance 6 - for unlawful carnal knowledge 7 - diver down 8 - van halen 2 9 - women and children first 10 - fair warning
Looks like you’re more of a Sammy fan overall ? Nothing wrong with that ! 1984 was entry point to VH . Thanks for sharing your ranking 🤘 Cheers from Canada

Now that’s more like it. Swap Balance with 5150 and it would be even better. The first two you have ranked are clearly the best and most successful for a reason
12 Van Halen III 11 Balance 10 OU812 9 For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge 8 A Different Kind of Truth 7 5150 6 Diver Down 5 1984 4 Van Halen 3 Van Halen II 2 Fair Warning 1 Women and Children First

For me, the Roth era Van Halen is all I really care about. Fair Warning being my favorite, followed by the debut and 1984. The only one I don't like is Diver Down. That was awful. The Hagar stuff was too mainstream and sappy with too many dumb love songs. It didn't seem like Van Halen at all anymore. 1. Fair Warning 2. Van Halen 3. 1984 4. Van Halen II 5. Women & Children First 6. Diver Down
Definitely some sap on a couple of those Hagar albums , especially 5150 ! If you cut out the shit from Diver Down you have some pretty good stuff , it’s better than I remembered it to be . Hope your doing great David 🤘
hi ya darcy for once cant agree with your top 4 no 1 Van Halen no 2 van Halen 2 no 3 fair warning no 4 women and children first good ranking mate lets see some more Helstar Agent Steel exodus mr Malmsteen
That’s ok Alan our ranking of the Top 4 are damn close , good work ! I’m still waiting for my copy of the new Exodus , I will talk about it soon ! Thanks as always for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy

@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 I've always been partial to the debut, but I agree that II, WACF, FW and 1984 are all the epitome of the Mighty Van Halen.

I thought it was Van Hagar! 🤣 Agreed. It's shite. But, I loved Sammy with Montrose and his early solo stuff on Capitol Records. I can think of four songs VH did with Sammy that I liked: Good Enough, Poundcake, Judgment Day and Spanked.
I can definitely live with your ranking lol , great stuff ! I just got the new Victory album in the mail today , it’s going on now ! Thanks as always my friend 🤘
Diver Down & Balance are better than 0U812 & F.U.C.K I might be able to listen to III if it was all instrumental & shorter because Cerone is so horrible & annoying to listen to for an hour. Plus, How Many Say I is probably the worst song I've ever heard. Agree with you on Pleasure Dome. It is a hidden gem. Fair Warning is also my favorite, but I put I & II above WACF. EVH - GOAT of GOATs.
I was never a Extreme fan , so when Gary was announced as the new VH vocalist my heart sank lol . Thanks for the great comment and thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Most of the Roth era man oh man amazing!
Another cool video. Here’s my VH ranking:
12. Van Halen III
11. Balance
10. OU812
9. F.U.C.K.
8. 5150
7. A Different Kind of Truth
6. Diver Down
5. Van Halen II
4. Women and Children First
3. Fair Warning
2. 1984
1. Van Halen
Great choice for Fair Warning as number 1. Awesome moments especially Diamond Dave’s cool style on Unchained.
Yeah Unchained is one of my all-time favourite VH songs. Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Van Halen was actually my 2nd concert I’ve been to after Ozzy Osbourne I seen them live twice here in Edmonton the reunion tour December 2007 and the different kind of truth tour May 2012 and I was just blown away by what I experienced they were both awesome shows🤘
That's a awesome Van Halen ranking, Darcy! Even though I'm not a fan; I still respect them for being influential.
Rest In Peace Eddie Van Halen
You are missed 😢 💔.
I second everything you said 🎸 R.I.P. EVH 🤘
Hell yeah! I own all original van halen albums on vinyl! Fair Warning will always be my favorite🤘🤘 Rockin Vid Darcy🤘
12 - Van Halen 3 (1998)
11- For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991)
10 - OU812 (1988)
9 - Balance (1995)
8 - A Different Kind Of Truth (2012)
7 - Diver Down (1982)
6 - Fair Warning (1981)
5 - 5150 (1986)
4 - Women And Children First (1980)
3 - 1984 (1984)
2 - Van Halen 2 (1979)
#1- Van Halen 1 (1978)
I’m more of a David Lee Roth guy when it comes it Van Halen. I’m not too crazy about the Van Hagar albums even though there’s a few songs with Sammy that I like. I still respect your opinion though :) Here’s my ranking:
1. Van Halen (debut) (not only my favorite Van Halen album, this is my favorite album of all time. Not burnt out on any song)
2. Van Halen II
3. Women and Children First
4. Fair Warning
5. Diver Down (most people bash this album because it has too many covers. They don’t sound like covers to me. To me they’re like original VH songs)
6. 1984 (for the longest time I was never a fan of “Jump” but a year ago, I’ve really grown to like it now and I’m not burnt out on the hits. “Hot For Teacher” is my favorite on here)
7. A Different Kind Of Truth
8. 5150 (it has a few track I like. I like Love Walks In, 5150, and Good Enough and I agree with your opinion on the “hello baby” part in that song)
9. F.U.C.K. (Runaround is really the only song I like off this one. Like I said I’m not the biggest Van Hagar fan)
10. OU812 (nothing on here I like. For some reason it just sounds lazy to me)
11. Balance
Great Video Darcy, my favourite Van Halen albums always been the self titled debut with Van Halen II close second , definitely like the Roth era more but Some of the Sammy stuff is good , my favourite album Sammy ever did was the debut with Montrose, killer album , cheers man 🤘
😃👍
Heck of an endeavor right there, ranking the mighty Van Halen! Good job. I would spend hours wresting about over VH1 and VH2. Cant pick, perhaps a slight hair over the line to VH 2. I pulled Van Cherone off the shelf a couple of years ago and started playing it again to see if I would change my opinion about it, I ended up liking it quite a bit. It was good, just hard for fans to process. Eddie never did anything that wasnt killer.
Great ranking of a great band. I think my ranking would be exactly the same! Nice cassette tape collection!🤘
Thanks Nik ! I knew those cassettes would come in handy one day 😂 Have a great weekend 🤘
Great ranking. I actually saw van halen in 91 as well. But I also got to see them in 84 as well. I remember lining up overnight to get tickets. What a great party that was and the tickets were only 7.50.
My two most favorite albums from VH are #1 - FAIR WARNING and my #2 - 5150. Really like a few more but those two I truly love. Great video Darcy.🤘
Thanks for sharing. Your top 5 is in line with mine. I saw Van Halen in '82 & they were fantastic. The ticket cost was $12.50 but was free as my friend won a pair of tickets on the radio. He was the first to answer the question; who was their producer. Answer T.T. Cheers!
$12.50 😂 That’s great! I have most of my old ticket stubs, I can’t believe the prices we paid back then! Thanks as always 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Stay heavy
Great ranking video, Darcy. Fair Warning for me too. Killer album.
Thanks Peter 🤘 I’m a longtime fan but I didn’t realize how much I love these albums , especially the Top 5 !
Best is definitely Fair Warning. Worst is definitely Diver Down. Lost interest after 5150 but I know they’re not as bad as Diver Down. Cool list Darcy. Horns up!
Awesome! For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge tour was my first VH concert too, and first real concert overall. 1991 Buffalo, NY. Alice In Chains opened. 🍻
Roth I liked more than Hagar.
I, II, Fair Warning, Women and Children First, Diver Down, 1984. 🤘🎸
6 quality albums in 7 years , that’s unheard of these days ! Nice picks Wil 🤘
Van Halens self titled is light years ahead of the rest IMO and 5150 from the Hagar era. Sweet ranking young fella ..... keep one foot out the door.
😃👍
For me DIVER DAWN is top 3
My ranking would go something like this:
Fair Warning
VH1
Women And Children First
VH2
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
1984
5150
A Different Kind of Truth
Balance
OU812
Diver Down
VH3

However i can tell my two favorite songs, from the DLR era had to be "Unchained" and with Sammy "Humans Being".... cheers and be well
I have a couple of cds but VH is not someone I will spend many pennies on. Always like these rankings on bands I'm not really into. 🤘🏻

#12 - VH III:
Never need to hear it again, like ever... the songs are too long, seem to have little direction, and Gary didn't fit with the group in my opinion.
#11 - OU812:
Never been a fan of this one, I enioy some songs such as Sucker in a 3 Piece, Source of Infection, and A.F.U., Finish What Ya Started as well. But the mix in general isn't my thing and it just seems flat.
#10 - A Different Kind of Truth:
Once again a great album, despite Eddie's guitar and the Alex going crazy on the drums, Dave's vocals were already going out, and it just feels as incomplete without Mikey's vocals / screams.
#9 - Balance:
I really enjoy this album, it's heavy and Grungy for Van Halen. Seventh Seal is heavy, Big Fat Money sounds like an oldschool DLR Van Halen track, Can't Stop Lovin' You, while cheesy is fun and something for the ladies lol.
#8 - 1984:
Contrary to your views, this is a hits album for me, the deep cuts just don't do it for some reason in my opinion. Yes they're all classic Van Halen, and great when I'm on a Van Halen kick, but I've found when I go for this album, I just want Panama, Hot For Teacher, and Jump and the rest is just "enjoyable"...
Maybe that's because I haven't worn them out yet though haha.
#7 - Women and Children First:
This album is definitely where the heavier side of Van Halen came in. Romeo Delight, Everybody Wants Some!, And The Cradle Will Rock are amazing; however, Toro Toro! and Loss of Control just don't do it for me.
- Going forward these are all interchangeable depending on the month haha!
#6 - Van Halen II:
What used to be my favorite, I've since soured on just a little, maybe I just overplayed it... D.O.A., Women In Love, Light Up The Sky, Somebody Get Me a Doctor, holy crap the whole album is outstanding, I just overplayed it most likely.
#5 - For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge:
Coming back to real drums on this one, thank god, there's a real kick on this again, it's heavy, it's rockin', it's Van Halen baby. Judgement Day, The Dream is Over, Top of the World, Pleasure Dome... this has been spinning the most lately in my household.
#4 - Diver Down:
Strange one here, but I love this album so much, the vibe, the mix and production, the tracklist. It's just a very fun album, it's like a summer album if that makes sense. Where Have All The Good Times Gone, Pretty Woman, Full Bug, man it's fun. Love Happy Trails as a closer as well.
#3 - Fair Warning:
Unchained and Sinner's Swing, need we say more? Well yes, the bass and guitar tone on this thing are absolutely brutal. Mean Street, Dirty Movies, Hear About it Later... man cannot go wrong.
#2 - 5150:
Since the remix came out last year, I've been in love with this one.
#1 - Van Halen I:
It just has to be for me, Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, You Really Got Me, Atomic Punk, could go on with all the songs... it's perfect!
Wanted to add this as I love the band so much, top #10 songs in no real order:
Unchained
5150
The Dream is Over
Best of Both Worlds
Runaround
Top of the World
Runnin' with the Devil
Humans Being
Sinner's Swing
Panama
If ya read this essay, thanks brother haha, very much appreciated :)
Such a great comment, I read it over 3 times lol, thanks for taking the time to type all that out! So cool you got to see the show, Sammy is ageless! R.I.P. EVH 🤘
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 thank you mate, highly appreciated!
Always happy to share my opinions in relation to music, especially when they're so drastically different from others' haha
As for Sammy, yeah he truly is ageless, he sounds as good as ever in my opinion, Mikey too, he still has that high note, and then Satch and Jason were phenomenal on the guitar and kit respectively.
Hi Darcy, you listen to The Ramones?Just picked up my first CD of theirs, Brain Drain. If you do, think about doing a ranking vid.
The first three are stone cold classics.

6. Diver Down
7. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
8. A Different Kind of Truth

Somehow missed this notification, so I'm late to the party. But anyways:
1. Fair Warning
2. Women And Children First (recently rediscovered how great this album actually is)
3. VH I
4. Balance (yeah I know, lol)
5. 1984 (agreed about Jump, but Panama never gets old to me)
6. VH II
7. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
8. 5150
9. A Different Kind Of Truth
10. OU812
11. VH III
12. Diver Down (only because I'm not sure I've ever heard the whole thing)
Cheers!
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 I love Diver Down!
Fair dues, not many rank fair warning at number 1.as a brit, first album I heard from Van Halen and was an absolute game changer😊
Game changer for sure, definitely a band ahead of its time! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Had no doubt what album would be the least favorite lol. Solid ranking put me in a VH mood
I’m hoping to get a couple of the reissues for Christmas , I gave the Mrs.6Strings access to my Amazon wish list 🤞 Cheers Steve
Do a DLR solo ranking! I know you said you don't want to, but there's only like one or two of those on RUclips. Good list other than putting 0U812 over A Different Kind Of Truth .;)
Cool video dude... Cheers
For me Top 3...Debut..Women and Children First..Fair Warning...1stConcert i ever saw july 15 1980 in Montreal was amazing.
Wow I wish I would of saw in them in the early 80’s ! Great Top 3 🤘 Thanks for sharing ! Take care ~ Darcy

11. OU812
10. Balance
9. 5150
8. F.U.C.K.
7. A Different Kind Of Truth
6. Diver Down
5. Fair Warning
4. Women And Children First
3. Van Halen II
2. Van Halen
1. 1984
Have to give anyone credit for know all of Halen's work. I'm still catching up here listening to Ozzy's Scream album. 👍
Top 5...
1) VH II
2) Debut
3) 1984
4) Fair Warning
5) Women & Children First...
Pasi
It’s a toss up on my #1 & #2 , love both of them ! I get you on Sunday Afternoon In The Park , waste of space lol . Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers Pasi
Not a band I've ever been bothered with to be honest. I appreciate that they were hugely influencial in the genre but just not for me. I'll take your word for it on the ranking!
OK as long as you know they are hugely influential then I’m good ! Thanks for taking one for the team Andy 🤣
I saw them on the F.U.C.K tour with Alice in Chains as the opener. Girl Gone Bad and Humans Being are my 2 favourite Van Halen tunes.

I think a lot of people would have 5150 higher , not a bad album by any means ! Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care MJ
1. VH II 2. VH I 3. Fair Warning 4. Diver Down 5. 1984 6. 5150 7. OU812 8. W&CF That's all I'm familiar with.
Try out For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge if you get a chance , much heavier album compared to the first 2 with Sammy . Thanks for watching & sharing your ranking 🤘 Cheers from Canada

I really like the first Gene Simmons Van Halen album . Some real belters
I still need to get that! Thanks for the reminder 🤘
How would you rank the Van Halen with Hagar albums?

For me, the Roth era Van Halen is all I really care about. Fair Warning being my favorite, followed by the debut and 1984. The only one I don't like is Diver Down. That was awful.
