I understand that dmc3 isn't for everyone but its definitely MY kind of game. God of war combat with FFX graphics alongside Castlevania's edge and Street fighter's combo depth. This is probably my ultimate ps2 nostalgia game.
Some of the more zealous DMC fans would have your head for a football if you said it's God of War combat :P Bit of an aggressive hyperbole to start out this comment with, apologies for that if it put you off. But the fans of DMC as a whole, and the Character Action/Hack-and-Slash/Whatever-the-Name genre as a whole are definitely not rare. If anything, many people very much want to see more games like it. There are still significant differences between the games' combat design, and as someone who's a big genre nerd and has never played *any* of the games i want to shoot my shot in explaining why. - GOW's combat is a lot... wider. Very sweepy, longer range with the weapons. Plus the usage of magic spells to supplement/compliment the melee weaponry. - Enemies come at Kratos in generally bigger groups and waves than what is seen in most DMC games, *and* can be used as weapons themselves. - It has been discovered that they can be grabbed and collide with other enemies, and that the damage of their collissions rise along with the difficulty level you're playing on. - The environments themselves are often incorporated into the fights or for making combat challenges, like for example various undead legionnaires while you're in a cage corridor with on one end a spiked wall approaching you, and you have to defeat all enemies before the gate on the other side opens. - For DMC, combat's more close-up. Certain moves can hit around you, yet many attacks are focused on a fellow right in front of you. - Instead of magic, there's guns. They've got more moves to them than the magic spells from GOW and from 3 onward seem very beloved in canceling animations. - Enemy design may actually be considered a weak point among DMC fans (i've seen people say that they find the enemy line-up and complexity in 1 the strongest) , but in any case: while they can appear in groups, said groups are often smaller than in GOW. They are a more notably individual presence. - Hardly any grab attacks in the series or ways of damaging enemies with one another, if any. Aside from Nero in 4 and 5 who is the closest thing to a grappler in the serie. Kratos was raised with it. - And as stated within the GOW section, there's hardly any environmental hazards or timed combat puzzles like that cage corridor example. There's combat arenas and 3 has the damage booster key that depletes your health, but it's not nearly as central to the series' identity as in GOW. If you're up for more games in this genre, be sure to take a look into games like Darksiders (mainly 1 and 2, but i was fond of Genesis too and haven't tried 3-- here's to hoping the new one that was announced last week will be more like them), Ninja Gaiden, Assault Spy, Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 1 and 2, Dante's Inferno, Knight's Contract, Heavenly Sword The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile (that's a 2D one-- short and very sweet), or newcomers such as Soulstice (a personal favourite), Genokids, Enenra Daemon Core and Mightreya. Mayhaps even the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy, Gori: Cuddly Carnage, Immortal: And the Death that Follows and Kings of Hell. That last one is quite visually spicy, despite being cartoony. More of a 3D beat-em-up with bosses as unlockable characters. People seem positive on the gameplay, though! Apologies if this comment came across as a smart-alec annoying know-it-all reply, but for what it's worth, i do hope it's interesting.
My first encounter with DMC series was on PS2, the first game was nice though I wouldn't say that it was my favorite. But when my dad bought me a CD of DMC 3 it became one of my favorite games on that console. By the way this video perfectly captures my vision of game
Happy you liked the video. The first time I played DMC 3 was last year and I was immediately smitten. The over-the-top rule of Cool Cutscene coupled with its gameplay that was ahead of its time by sooooo many years made me want to make a video about it sooo bad.
I still hope they remake this game. Seriously all they need to do is let Itsuno supervise it so he can make sure that it won’t be shit and they’ll have a banger of a remake.
In DMC3 you don't find purple orbs, you buy them on the shop(generaly what i buy first) also beating all bosses in the boss rush give you a blue orb fragment
