It really is awesome! My grandpa left behind a 1984 Mercedes 300D also that I want to buy from my grandma very much but just cant afford and too many family members to give it to me without upsetting anyone haha. So those cars have a soft spot to me on top of being fantastic cars!
The Roadmaster is my favorite, but I may be a bit biased as my daily driver is a 1992 Buick Roadmaster Limited with the 5.7 Liter V8 with 84,000 miles. I am a retired school teacher so that car will likely provide for my transportation needs for years to come - I often drive my cars to 250,000 miles or more.
I agree with you here. I also have the 1992 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon with the 5.7 Liter V8 and it has over 256k+ miles on it and still has great power and fuel economy on it. Getting parts for it can be tricky, but you can still get them. Example, Heater core is no longer made so auto parts store will not have them. But again, they do and not even know it. Ask for one for a 2003 Compris and you will get it.
Just the smile on your face tells me you should keep the MB, especially since it was the exact car you had (and not a similar one). It seems like it has lots of sentimental value to you, and a great story.
That is a fair point. I'd seriously consider how frequently I legitimately WANT to take out any of the other cars over one of those two, because sometimes it isn't about what car drives the best, but about what car makes you feel special or gives you that feeling that you want to drive it. Nostalgia is also a very potent thing, and there's just no way to overcome that desire for an escape back to those simpler times or to just recapture the feeling of those times that you felt particularly fulfilled. I suspect I would be very tempted to buy a 2000 Nissan Sentra if I ever drove or rode in one again because it's the car that my mom had for the longest while I was growing up and it's the car we took the majority of our trips in because it was an automatic while my dad's car was a manual and less suited to long road trips. And there's just nothing like the nostalgia of the cars your parents had for a Millennial, since for most of us, that was one of the best times in our lives, back when life was simple and you weren't struck by the agonizing anxiety of making your own way in this capitalist hellscape of a world.
I am absolutely in love with the Roadmaster. To me it just seems like the ultimate weekend cruiser/road trip car. Everything inside of me wants to show up to a car show in it.
If it was my choice, I’d be keeping the Roadmaster! You don’t see those too often anymore. Not to mention, it’s a V8, RWD, station wagon… what more could you want, lol.
Even though I am a Buick guy, I would definitely keep the Mercedes. You built it the way you wanted it. It will always be worth more than the wagon, and you have no shortage of project cars for content.
I would say keep the mercedes, it is already in great condition and you wouldnt have to do too much to have it in your preferred style, the roadmaster would be a keeper too but the amount of work that needs to be done and time and effort would be big to finish it.
My Dad started with a 240D, went to a 190D in 1984 and then owned a bunch of 300D's after that. Great cars. This video brings back memories of sitting in those passenger seats! I'd keep that Mercedes and lose a ton of money on that Roadmaster for our entertainment !
I know from experience that the roadmaster wagon can fit 3 person band equipment with full size drums. My old bandmate's mom had one lol. Fun fact they are rated to tow 7,000 lbs, same as my 98 silverado
@@2004RADMAN They are bots, no point in replying to them. I used to report every single one but it seems RUclips doesn't care, so I stopped caring as well and just use BlockTube to, well, block them.
Love to watch you playing with 'regular' cars again. Definitely keep the Mercedes-Benz. Don't sell it, please. Additionaly maybe keep the Roadmaster as well. Greetings from Germany, Martin
Hoovie, so glad you reclaimed the w126. I remember years ago when you posted for Jalopnik, I commented on a picture of your garage "I spy a w126" and you sent the video of you driving yours with the manual conversion. Well that started me following your youtube channel! As one w126 Merc lover to another I hope you keep this 1-2-6. If not please let me know I want it to sit next to my 420 SEL! :)
Please keep both Hoovie, they're fantastic cars. The Roadmaster would be an amazing project and as for the Merc. . . You cant let that car go again, you'll regret it.
I had a '93 Buick Roadmaster Wagon. It was technically my 1st car, inherited from my parents. What a beast. 350 cub/in V8 with that bulletproof 4-speed automatic and a limited slip diff. It was a musclecar in a fatsuit, damn thing seated 9 people in (relative) comfort if you include the backward-facing "rumble seat" in the cargo area (illegal nowadays in many places). Goddamn I miss that car. Thanks for the memories, Tyler.
I love the old wagons, but personally I’d keep the Mercedes because you know it, it’s rare, in good condition etc. I would constantly be annoyed at the situation surrounding the purchase of the wagon.
As much as I absolutely love the Roadmaster estate, that Mercedes is the ULTIMATE vintage Mercedes. Special history, a sweet build, MANUAL, and could likely never be replicated for any reasonable amount of money. That thing deserves a permanent space next to your Grandma's car.

This Mercedes is the reason I am subscribed to Hoovies Garage! I was looking to buy one in my country - Macedonia and had watched every video on youtube on these cars and than stumbled on a 2/3 day old video from our beloved Hoovie with this exact Mercedes. Keep it up Tyler, we appreciate you!
Absolutely keep the 126 Tyler! It is after all the car that started your RUclips channel and the reason I found your channel from day one! I even remember speaking with you about buying your lorinser lo’s when you were selling it. The 126 and the 107 are a pair that should never be separated! I’d keep both, they will both pay for themselves in content creation plus they both have a huge cool factor! But if I had to pick one to keep, keep the Roadmaster, I’d love to see what you do to it and it’s my personal dream car!
I had a 92 roadmaster with the 5.7, such a lovely car to drive, smooth and comfortable. I traveled everywhere in it and often folded all the seats down, threw a mattress in and took it camping :)
I don't have a particular nostalgia for either but tend to lean towards the Merc. As old as each car is at this moment, which one has the best chance of still being around in twice that time? That's not always my criteria, but in this case that's what's appealing to me. Either way, have a blast.
I love your towing videos, I used to bingewatch them a couple of years ago, but haven't watched a video in a while now. Very interesting to see you here
If it came back...keep the Merc. I'd say the same if you got your old Roadmaster back. Love this longer vid on both. Adorable to see they bought a Mini Cabrio. Totally agree on you on the car market too.
I agree. The Merc has the history and style. I like the novelty of the Roadmaster wagons, but the mercedes is just an all around good and affordable collectible in most every way in comparison.
@@russelljacob7955 It looks like he had a lot more fun in the Roadmaster. He'd never drive the Merc like that. There's a freedom in that I think which is good. But this is a banger. The Merc is a keeper. Again. If it were the opposite with the Roadmaster and that being a random 300SD not his specific one I'd nudge him there but...this is too special to let go now that he got it back. He tried it with that white W126 he got a while ago but maybe that was just a flip.
@@Petrospect I pretty much agree. While for youtube and short term, the buick is better? Long term it will most likely end up like other hoopties and sitting for months... years without being used. If it was just a youtube perspective, and just a random replacement diesel? Then the Buick 100%. But mercedes has long term passion will stay, fun with family and shows. Course, perhaps euroasian bob can help find the merc a foreverhome.
It was that Mercedes diesel that got me hooked on your channel years ago! I don’t think I’ve missed an episode since. I saw a young guy like myself enamoured with with a classic Mercedes, not afraid to enjoy it and make it your own. That inspired me to buy a 1970 Mercedes w108, exactly like my dad owned when I was growing up. It’s it’s 20 years older than me and I love it.
Well my personal choice is the Roadmaster as I love wagons but I'm sure you'll keep the Mercedes. Either way the thought you may go back to more normal cars that just cost more would be a welcome return to the channel and would help people know what to expect in this crazy car market.

@@Craig-wp3pz That's always refreshing to here, I of course am just hoping to see a project on an American car vs another German or Italian car. Exotic cars dont excite me as much as say your generic car, but then again that's more realistic to what I will own and could work on. But hey that's just me.
@@Craig-wp3pz Buick Roadmaster station wagons are fun: - third seats at the back. Kids will have a blast - more space with groceries - couch seats. Very rare to find now that bucket seats are on every new cars Roadmaster is a family car. Mercedes on the other hand is a driver's car. Looks good, great features in the front and it's fast. Don't know how much the maintenance will cost if it rarely breaks down.
My parents had a fully loaded (minus the fake wood) Light Adriatic Blue 1994 Caprice Wagon with towing provisions. We still have the original 4 page window sticker. Options included upgraded brakes, self leveling air suspension, strengthened frame, oil cooler and transmission cooler, heavy duty cooling fan, 2.93:1 limited slip rear end, and the LT1. This is one of the last truly good sounding V8 equipped cars, in my opinion. I used to love listening to our car idle as a kid. Nice and smooth, deep, and subtle, until you floor it. I witnessed our completely stock wagon make 282hp / 330 lb-ft to the rubber on the dyno, back when that was necessary for emissions testing. Needless to say, the LT1's power was definitely more than advertised. These are very underrated vehicles in more than one way. Not much else can seat 9 people while towing 7000 pounds behind it. I will always put this above the Vic/Marauder, even if the Caprice/Impala might seem like the faster, better looking "underdog".
The mercedes was actually your car and you did a lot to it. I remember watching that old video and cant see a reason why id say to keep the roadmaster over the mercedes. I feel like aside from Apollo 911, the mercedes 4spd was also a car that represents the channel
I'd keep the roadmaster. I've always thought they are the ultimate station wagon. They make excellent sleepers as well. Recently I've seen a few new buick wagons. They are pretty cool too... they kinda resemble these older ones. I think they discontinued them already though
I'd keep the Roadmaster, but the MB looks great as well. Growing up we had a '73 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser with a 455. I loved the car, but the smog equipment and gearing mad it kind of slow.
Ooh how i love seeing the Buick Roadmaster. Had one come in for a full engine rebuild here in Estonia and got to drive it and all. But it was the limited edition with still the same 5.7 lt1. One of the comfiest cars ever.

Having owned 2 W126s and driven a Roadmonster before, I would keep the 300SD. There are plenty more things that could be done to it too, Lorinser or H&R springs, Recaro power seats, Clarion G80 sound system, euro bumpers, 5 speed instead of the 4 speed (or swap in an OM606 if you get tired of it being slow), etc. If you don't want to buy $3k recaros for it, the old style covers fit on the Gen 2 seat bases that have stiffer springs so they aren't so bouncy.
Tough choice! The roadmaster project sounds like a blast and I hope you choose it for my viewing pleasure. If I were to keep one of the two, I'd choose the Mercedes as I'm project averse at this point in my life
KEEP THE BUICK! I have several cars Id like to have back 72 Cutlass, 79 Bonneville, 87 Monte Carlo SS, 78 Cougar, 2000 Chrysler 300M, 07 Ford 500. But Ive gotten to the point where I dont want to own an older car like my 72 Cutlass or Bonneville or even the MC. Parts are getting harder to find for such cars and fewer places know how to work on them.
Great play, Hoovie. My first video was the stolen burgundy Mercedes ML you rescued from the woods. So glad this stuff is back. I have a '99 Corolla with 389,000 and I feel like I belong again. Best wishes.
You have to keep both! If this video is the first step to returning to your roots and original format, I can't wait to see more! I so clearly remember the great videos from a few years ago such as burying the Range Rover and Chrysler convertible, backing the Lincoln Town Coupe into the front of the Porsche, adding nitrous to the Prius, hitting a golf ball from the top of the Lincoln Town Car, LS swapping, adventures with the Russian Bently, adventures with the Land Cruiser, Grampa buying the Park Avenue, stretching out along the side of the Eldo, and so many more memorable moments I just love!! If a return to the past format is in store for the future, I am SO EXCITED for it!!
I’m so jealous of your roadmaster, man! I’ve been looking for one for years. They are just so fun and practical. That picture you posted with it parked at the drive-ins is exactly what I’ve envisioned doing with my girlfriend. There’s a guy down the road from me who owns TWO of them. Both the same color. White. And I asked him if he was willing to part ways with one and he refused, stating one was his and one was his wife’s. Not sure what the logic was behind that, but, regardless. I drive a JK wrangler nowadays after cruising down the freeways in an old crown vic police car for years. It’s kinda funny how much I miss those boats. Behemoths on wheels that were just so comfortable and fun to drive on a straight line. I hope you keep that roadmaster, for my sake. I would love to see a hot-rodded estate wagon.
I have a soft spot in my heart for those wagons. I think that you should go one of two ways with it. A) Damn the cost, make it what you would have made your first one. B) Fix the cosmetics and turbo the engine, build the trans/diff/suspension to handle the power and make it a true sleeper.
I spent three years paying for college through working as a Mercedes sales person, not only selling, but delivering them from 1965-1968, and I have never forgotten the joy of driving whatever Mercedes I had to deliver, including the lowly 190Ds. Many years later, we bought a used 190D and after putting 208,000 more miles on it, began to worry about major repairs. I regret selling it to this day! My advice: Keep the Mercedes. The Buick was a fine automobile in its' day, but there's just no comparison between the two. Just count yourself fortunate that you have one of the last of the really great Mercedes chassis.
Everything about the Mercedes is amazing, I am a huge diesel person and I have never really seen anything like the Mercedes since we don't have too many in the states. Although I am a truck person I would 100% consider buying something like the merc here. That color is phenominal, you have the luxuries of a mercedes, its a manual, and the diesel?? can it get any better than that????
Hands down, I'd keep the Buick. Had a 1970 Buick Estate Wagon with the 455 engine. It had a neck-snapping acceleration. Won a few stoplight drag-races against many so-called "sports cars". Great times. Sold it when it was 15 years old. To this day, that was one of my life's greatest regrets.
You can't beat the comfort and ride quality of many older vehicles. Now a days it seems everything has to have stiff suspension, crappy stiff cheap seats and low profile wheels. Not just that the gizmos I don't want or need. I can drive myself perfectly fine, I can parallel park, I don't need navigation, I don't need automatic stopping either. Get rid of the junk car makers and you will have a winner. Just make it comfortable and reliable. That's it.
@@discgolfdetails9889 Agreed, tired of harsh shitty riding vehicles with uncomfortable seats and a bunch electronic crap I'll never use. Bring back soft suspensions, big comfy bench seats, and tires with beefy sidewalls. No automaker today has one available, so there's definitely a market for it.
I've owned 2 Buick roadmaster wagons, a 93 TBI and my current one a 96 LT1 collector's edition with the tow package. People can't believe how quick that huge, heavy grandma looking car is, and most young people don't even know what it is. I have plans to put a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission behind that LT1, I just need to find the parts, and the time lol.
Hoovie, I have just recently started watching your channel after watching the Wizard for several months. In the short time I've watched you, I have discovered one thing about you: You have a tendency to throw money at a car, sometimes, without thinking. (The Subaru, the Superbird) Keep 'em both! The Roadmaster was on the B/D platform out of Arlington, Texas. In addition to the Buick that platform included the Cadillac Fleetwood, Chevy Caprice, and the Impala SS. We built out of that platform on 13 December, 1996. Then did a plant refurbishment and started building pickup trucks in March of 1997.
Thanks for listening to the comments and going back to some more accessible stuff. The super cars and collector pieces are really cool, but this just scratches a different, relatable itch.
Keep the Buick. They make a kit for a T56 swap and change the the rear to 3:73 or 4:10's. This can be done for a modest budget, leaving plenty left over for engine mods.
Love the in-video promo - YT not reimbursing content creators. The great early 90s Buick Roadmaster. Many of my first cars were land yachts (think 70s New Yorker, Marquis, Monaco) like those. Although mine had minimal 400ci 4br carbs (think 5mpg downhill). Always looking for a "weekender" to run errands, an inexpensive to purchase and maintain car like the Roadmaster.
I really love how the road master sounds and look just as a car, seeing one in the road in 2021 is rare I see why you love the care, even if you don’t pick what I car I want the best for you. I still respect your decision.
I must be really old. That Buick screams something your uncle would spend countless hours having buyers remorse over vs an Oldsmobile… The Mercedes is simply in a different league.
I love both but if I could only keep one it would be the mercedes. You have a history and personal connection to the merc, also you will probably find the merc will become more collectible over time too.

And that back seat? Kids will have fun back there. Reminds me of that boxy Oldsmobile wagon with the similar opposite backseat.
@@imrytebeehyneu Absolutely!
Even though I am a Buick guy, I would definitely keep the Mercedes. You built it the way you wanted it. It will always be worth more than the wagon, and you have no shortage of project cars for content.
I would say keep the mercedes, it is already in great condition and you wouldnt have to do too much to have it in your preferred style, the roadmaster would be a keeper too but the amount of work that needs to be done and time and effort would be big to finish it.
ye but buick is old and good too
The Buick is a family car that kids will cherish for life.

The Roadmaster would be an amazing project and as for the Merc. . . You cant let that car go again, you'll regret it.
exactly put the road master in the barn and when you feel ready hot rod it
I vote both too. Team Mercedes if haaaave to choose but both would be extremely awesome to see in future videos
i love the roadmaster. More hoopties. Less rich guy cars. Thank you.
They're all rich guy cars now, look at the prices. Now get in the pod our gender neutral cricket paste supplements will arrive soon.
I'd keep the w126. I sold mine 6-7 years ago and regret it. Was by far the best built car i've ever owned.
The MB is amazing, but it’s already pretty perfect. If you keep the Buick, you gotta go all the way, Lingenfelter kit all the way.

Simply put. 👍🏼
Good chance the Buick would still be around, the Mercedes is going to get more and more expensive over time to keep running
The Buick would likely last longer and need less repairs/ cost less to repair
I love your towing videos, I used to bingewatch them a couple of years ago, but haven't watched a video in a while now. Very interesting to see you here
That Buick is one of the least cool car I've ever seen, unless you are some kind of ironic hipster.
Buick Roadmaster station wagons are fun:
- third seats at the back. Kids will have a blast
- more space with groceries
- couch seats. Very rare to find now that bucket seats are on every new cars
Roadmaster is a family car.
Mercedes on the other hand is a driver's car. Looks good, great features in the front and it's fast. Don't know how much the maintenance will cost if it rarely breaks down.
I'd go with the Buick would be cool to see it come back to as new condition!
The Roadmaster is a great car for the channel, excited to see a beefed up V8 under the hood.
So glad to see the Ol'Hoovie back!👍👍 I hope you stick to the hobby cars and avoid the investment portfolio cars. Keep 'em both!
I'd be fine with both, I like the beaters but the super cars are pretty cool too.
Keep both and sell something else! It's nice to see the channel go back to its roots
I'd keep the roadmaster. I've always thought they are the ultimate station wagon. They make excellent sleepers as well. Recently I've seen a few new buick wagons. They are pretty cool too... they kinda resemble these older ones. I think they discontinued them already though
Both. They’re just to perfect. The Merc is a time capsule, and the road master, while it needs some work, is amazing.
Keep both! the Benz because it's so nice and the Buick because it's a project and that's what's cool too see on your channel.
Maybe Tyler can do the work himself
I'd keep the Roadmaster, but the MB looks great as well. Growing up we had a '73 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser with a 455. I loved the car, but the smog equipment and gearing mad it kind of slow.
Ooh how i love seeing the Buick Roadmaster. Had one come in for a full engine rebuild here in Estonia and got to drive it and all. But it was the limited edition with still the same 5.7 lt1. One of the comfiest cars ever.

Road monster = not great...for any reason
You'll know how well engineered a car is when your mechanic loves working on it lol.
If I were to keep one of the two, I'd choose the Mercedes as I'm project averse at this point in my life
Why choose? Keep both! At least for now. I haven't seen a wagon build on YT in a LONG time! I say the time is ripe for one!
I’d keep the Merc , amazing car with history of its own and Tyler’s past , also it’ll only go up in value
KEEP THE BENZ!
Great play, Hoovie.
My first video was the stolen burgundy Mercedes ML you rescued from the woods. So glad this stuff is back.

Those cars go on for ever, great buy.
Enjoy making the 400k mark, that's a hell of a thing, congratulations Noel!
The Merc is such a fantastic car! Had the pleasure to drive one back in 2007 in the US with automatic transmission.
It really is a neat car. I bet it rides very smooth. does it?
Hoovie, I have just recently started watching your channel after watching the Wizard for several months.
Keep both, this is what cars are all about! Emotional connection
That Mercedes diesel is amazing! Always wanted one!! The prices these days are so crazy
As much as I agree that's a great idea you haven't priced t56s lately
More cars like this on your channel, less exotics 🙂
The road master looks like trouble, it may be a better idea to sell it on and find yourself a better starting point.
