  • I am FINALLY making Goku's FAVORITE Meal and this one is amazing. Simple, easy to make, delicious. Like Goku's hair.
Hey, thanks for being here. In reality, this is Akira Toriyama's favorite meal. I didn't want to title the video with his name out of respect and to not seem like it is click bait. Which...I guess this is click bait in a way.
Toriyama-sensei molded my childhood in ways I had not even thought about until I reflected on his passing. I can not express into words how much this man influenced my entire life. Entire. Life. I would not be here without his work. Without my obsession with Dragon Ball Z. I wouldn't have taken my health seriously without Goku.
So much of my life stems from his creators and thinking about that really puts life into perspective.
I truly hope you find someone who inspires you as much as he did me.
    Thank you sensei, for everything.
If you want to check out the artist I mentioned, you can find them here:

Still cried my eyes out for three days after I heard Toriyama-sensei made his journey to Enma-sama's mahogany desk.

Golden Curry is the best _"I have no energy and I must eat."_ item. It is cheap, easy, and good enough that even if I had several million dollars I would still buy it. Damn... it is wild that we can both remember a time when anime and nerd culture was definitively not cool. This one is for you Akira Toriyama, from people who really did fall in love with your work before it was cool.

" Work hard! Study well! And eat and sleep plenty. That is the Turtle Hermit way!"
I remember staying at my grandparent's house as a kid, staying up way too late watching TV and coming across DBZ. Goku was fighting Freiza on Namek. The next time I was over, Cell had just achieved his perfect form. The more I watched, the more engrossed in this magical world I became. I watched the entire show from beginning to end when I was in college, and my love for anime has been strong since then. RIP Toriyama-sensei, and thank you so very much. Piccolo is my favorite character too.

As you were talking about Akira Toriyama, reminded me of someone who affected a lot of mangskas (manga artists) and anime creators was Dr. Osuma Tezuka,, he started modern anime, pushed the boundaries of anime, and created 150,000 pages of mangas and 273 manga series, and to top the cherry, had made 120 animes, as well influenced artists such as Hayao Miyazaki and Akira Toriyama have cited Tezuka as an inspiration for their works. so indirectly you had been influenced by Dr. Tezuka, because if Tezuka hadn't started modern mangas and anime, we would not have what we have today.

I’m 30 seconds in and I already love this video. I think all of us in our 30+ years got hit hard with that news. Not to say the younger generation isn’t bombed with this news, it just hits different when you grew watching his works.
After watch edit: I had seen the vageta arc so many times I was able to watch it dubbed in Spanish on telemundo and still know what was going on. Anchor Blue had some of the best jeans. The shorts where fire as well. As far as if luffy would exist, go read Oda’s tribute to Toriyama. I would like to hear about an egg representing krillin. As far as I know his name is more a nod to kuri or chestnut. Either way as expected I love this and I will be attempting this soon.

Toriyama's influence for me wasn't grounded in anime, but the character designs he did for Squaresoft back in the SNES days. Chrono Trigger was kind of foundational in my life back in the mid-late 90s, and Toriyama's art and character designs were a big part of that. Especially the wild, spiky red hair of Crono.
May Toriyama-sama's legacy live on for many generations.

I gotta give it to you around 9:00 that in fact, DBZ made anime in western culture very popular before all the others, made ppl craving for more stories and characters. Before that we had some shows like Sabre Rider or Queen Millenia, the only anime-like animes I actually remember before watching DBZ in Europe. Other animes were like folk story telling like "Heidi" or "Niklas" that were very niché-esque, but we- back then- didn´t recognize it as japanese anime but a cool quirky animation style.

I have a tale to tell of a game that Toriyama-sama worked on called Dragon Warrior III. Not only was it a favorite if mine, but apparently it was a favorite of Toriyama's as well.

A wonderful tribute to Toriyama, Chef. It's really cool to hear how he inspired you in different ways throughout your life with his work, especially as a fellow lifelong Dragon Ball fan.
Some of my earliest memories are of watching DBZ on VHS tapes my dad owned. It was also a way for my sisters and I to connect as we were never particularly close, but one thing we did share was an interest in anime, and DBZ was very much a part of that for us. It also probably subconsciously let child me know that shows didn't need to be for any one gender as was especially the case marketing wise back in the 2000s because all of us enjoyed it and other shows mainly targeted at one gender together.
And that's something Toriyama has done on a level few else ever have or will; Bring people together.

Grew up with loads of anime, namely Tom Sawyer, Goldorak/Grendizer, Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya but i have to admit, Akira Toriyama affected mine and the lives of lots of my friends since back then in 1990 (was 3 😅). I still remember fondly waiting impatiently for the weekend to come to be able to go to gramps' place and him taking me to the VHS club to rent the latest Dragon Ball episodes. Good memories that i will never forget. Btw Gotenks has always been my favourite but Dragon Ball lore wise, i'd say Kid Goku was the bad ass for sure, no chill at all 🤣.

What really drove me was for the fact that ever since I was a little kid- I had the talent, want, and drive to create, draw, write, and animate. And I think that after I met my husband- it REALLY kicked off from there.
Ever since then he's continued to inspire and push me to do what I love. And I create my art because its for me, and to honor my husband~

Even after I joined the military, I would set up my free weights and workout equipment in the living room and binge my DragonBall DVDs while I did circuit training. While stationed in Japan, Cocos was one of my favorite places to go because I had a crazy work schedule, and it didn't matter what time I got off work, I could always go grab some. This video brought back so many good memories. Thank you. Also, don't ever sell yourself short. Saying that being a chef is all you can do is such an understatement. Being a chef is impressive on its own, but running a channel like this and putting out cookbooks in addition to everything else you do in your personal life shows you have drive and focus. Keep it up. Most of all, you too are an inspiration to those watching you grow on this journey.

Back in the mid-late 00's I got some friends to watch Bleach because I described it as DBZ with swords. Fun fact: Ichigo means strawberry, so Bleach is also has a main character named after food.
While Pokemon was huge back then, lots of parents and adults shrugged it off as a fad like many an 80's cartoon. DBZ changed that. The villain's where an actual threat and as strong as Goku was, he needed to train and to get stronger. No magic sword giving him his power. And, much like One Punch Man's Saitama, all that training was stuff we can do. Thousands wanting to jog, weight train, learn martial arts, all because of this one show. That's an influence that cannot be overstated.

I was like... 6 or 7 when I found out about Dragon Ball. In my country, we actually got Dragon Ball very early, and it was already a phenomenon when Z arrived. Personally, I discovered the anime first, but got familiar - and hooked - with it thanks to the manga. I remember one morning, having my yearly bronchitis and thus being home instead of at school, and being bored out of my mind because I had nothing to do, so I asked if I could watch TV. "One hour, that's it", I was told by my mom. So, I turn on the TV to watch a cartoon, and I stumble upon that show, where a dude with yellow spiky hair is absolutely going to town with a weird-ass white and purple bald asshole with a long tail. That's right, I was looking at Goku, as a super saiyan, duking it out with Frieza. It was so different from what I knew that I wanted to see more. But, the episode ended and the next would be tomorrow.
Sadly, I couldn't really follow the show because it was generally broadcast when we were at school, and at the time we didn't have any way to record, but, because I loved comic strips, like Astérix, Tintin, etc, I often went to the library to borrow some, and, one time, maybe a couple months after seeing that episode and managing to catch a few more, at said library, I saw, in the comic strips section, a little book. It was pastel green and I saw the words AKIRA TORIYAMA in black, followed by a white star in a red circle, and the words DRAGON BALL in white, on the spine of the book. I took it, started going through it. It was the 3 volume of the first version we got here, and covered pretty much the entirety of Goku and Krilin's training with Master Roshi, as well as part of the first Tenkaichi Budokai we see in the story. To say that I was even more hooked than I was after watching the episodes would be an understatement. It was different. Fresh. Super cool. And that's how my journey started .
I can't say that anything has played as much of an impact on me as it did on you, but the reality is, I owe Dragon Ball my love for martial arts, my love for japanese culture, not just manga and anime, but so much more. Because without Dragon Ball, I would have never thought about this country, so far away, so different than mine, and I would never have found the medium that is manga, which in turn would have made it impossible to discover so many things about japanese culture that I grew to really enjoy, love and be curious about. While Dragon Ball is just one aspect of the many things I love about anime and manga - and, when it comes to anime, I actually was a bit more into Ranma 1/2 at the time, than Dragon Ball - it is DEFINITELY the piece of japanese culture that made me aware of its existence and just how diverse and beautiful it is.
Also, I want a piece of that curry.

So there's a lot of comments around how Toriyama is a grandfather to anime and its true he is. I love dragon ball and remember watching it as a kid, didn't know it was anime at the time but that lead me on a journey to find anime and I am 30 and still watch anime and won't stop I love the stories I love the art and I love the flair.

We're probably the same generation, living in the same current area. And I can still viscerally flashback to when I first saw Sailor Moon on a TV. But I remember staying tuned into DB the whole time and now loving all my students being infatuated with the series. It always held on.

Akira Toriyama introduced us to a better world through his story and gave us hope that we can be as pure-hearted as Goku. He inspired the next generation of mangaka and animators. He made us feel okay to be different than others. Thank you for everything, Toriyama Sensei.

I just remember my childhood, the better part of my childhood, watching anime on mainstream media/channels, they would just put in a crap tonne of advertisements in-between the episode and it irked me just watching a 20 minute show--being stretched to its limit, and then suddenly the episode would just end, while me, so pissed off, felt like I just watched a glorified local advertisement. Still, when it went well and I could watch a full episode smoothly, those were the best times. No abusive parents/siblings, no worries, just me in front of a TV, and enjoying whatever that timelapse gave me.

I moved to and lived in Japan for over a third of my life and the main reason I even became interested in Japanese culture was because of anime and video games; and Dragon Ball Z was not only one of the first anime I ever saw, it was the first one that made me want to seek out more. If it wasn't for Toriyama Akira, I may not have ever decided to move to Japan and learn Japanese. That also means I wouldn't have met my best friend -- he was a Japanese student at my University in Japan and could barely speak broken English, but he still tried while used Japanese with him, and we basically ended up spending our entire University together.
And yeah, curry absolutely is comfort food for many Japanese.

I have a similar story with Fullmetal Alchemist. In high school I got introduced to FMA and bc I'm short, protective of my family, and at the time I was a bit of a know-it-all/smart, I related to Edward. When I was 25 I made an Edward cosplay. Two years year later in 2017 I went to a con dressed as Ed and went to speed dating (normally I would never do something like that but I got wrangled into it waiting on Sean Astin to sign my Sting sword) where I met my husband

Your story and path is a lot similar to my own. Minus the fitness journey. I'd like to say it's because of work and blame it on that, but really... I just lack discipline to do it myself.

I'm not big fan of Dragon Ball but I can't deny it's legacy. It's one of most influential anime out there. It wasn't particularly famous in my place when I was growing up(early to mid 2000) and I would not see it's conclusion until many years later when I found it on internet. I remember that DBZ aired on TV all up until Vegeta's fight against one of Freza's henchmen and only way you could watch further was a cable tv(which wasn't well developed in my place back then and even if it was,my English knowledge was at it's basics,so it would not mean much since DBZ on cable TV was in English). I was shocked listening to stories of blond Goku and good Vegeta from kids that actually had cable TV...

It's wild that the only deaths outside of my family that affected me were manga creators. It's probably because they actually showed effort and real skill instead of putting on a face that anyone can do with some degree of success. Toriyama, thank you for setting such a prime example of what hard work can get you.

I undrrstand how it hurts really deeply, to loose an Idol.
But through their works, thex live on. In us. In out hearts and minds. Necause a person only truely dies, when they are forgotten.
