I whole heartedly agree with your statement about the speed of add-on development. I'm an old-time simmer and can remember just how long it took to develop scenery, even if you had a suitable buildings pack available. Now with Google Map scraping, getting the maps looks so easy that perhaps even I might try my hand at it. Thank you for this video, it's just what I need right now.
dude seriously your a life saver on this for this info i bought the game hoping to install addons as such but made a custom install onto my ssd for faster loading and every otehr video instruction does not hae this info on this matter
Expected, but still amazing, that this sims free addons are looking better than payware, in some cases. The superior quality of assets seems to be key, here.
Along with the others here, I thank you heartily for this vid. I ama pilot of full-size aircraft since my fist lesson in 1961and I have been flight simming since 1985. I have probably installed and flown every flight simulator available since then. That said, MSFS2020 is by far the most advanced one yet. The scenery and weather are incredibly realistic. I should think it reasonable to expect that the combined expert brains that put this sim together might have taken all of the prior available sim experience and knowledge and use such to make user interface with this sim as advanced, simple, easy and intuitive as possible. In some areas they have, but in others they definitely and inexplicitly have not. Finding the Community File is just one of these inexplicably complicated and arcane things. If it was not necessary to find and use it whenever updating or installing software that does not have a self-installer, this might be forgiven. However, many of the addons offered, even those offered by the sim itself require hand installation into the Community File. So, is there a clearly visible "Community File" box on the main menu to click to do this? No. Are there any internal instructions as to how to find the Community File? No. But for sites like yours here it would be impossible or nearly so to find it. As it is, even once the long path is known there are so many counterintuitive steps to it that I suspect that the FS2020 sim developers did not really want us to find it. Why the secret, eh? If it were not for the amazing scenery and all and there being no other like simulator to replace it (for now), I would return it and damn it to hell for this. Thank you again or this vid. Cheers.
Thanks, Mark for all your help. It appears you are the only one that has an interest in all of us enjoying MSFS 2020. I do have a problem I have been working on for months. I followed your instructions and my mod shows in the content manager, however, it does not show in the hanger. I have tried many aircraft and none work. I purchased this game through Steam and it is on a pc.
Thank you very much. Like so many out here in the real world, locating the community folder was a headscratcher. Your guide made is simple. Thank you so much. I will be looking into your web site a lot from now on. Many Thanks. Gary. UK
I think I figured out where I've messed up. I didn't turn developer mode off (not sure if that actually affects anything in the game) and I dragged everything from the opened file (not the readme or anything like that, but specifically what's in the download folder for the F22 Raptor) and not just the folder itself. Again, not sure if that has affected anything, but I can tell you that I didn't have the F22 available, so it's obviously done something to hinder me. Thank you for this video. It was very helpful and informative.
Argh so that's where the Community Folder is! Sounds quite complicated to add third party freeware, but I guess I will be watching your vid a fair few times! Thanks....

After following the instructions, I tried to add an additional livery, but FS continues to only show 20 default aircraft. What else should be done? Thanks.
Hi, did you confirm location of your community folder via developer mode as shown in the video? Also check the notes below the video. Lastly there has been an update to MSFS. Perhaps the file you are trying to use is no longer compatible? Hope you get it sorted. Regards
I followed the instructions exactly as suggested. The FS version is current. No matter how many times the addons are attempted into the Community folder, I still see only 20 aircraft. I tried to add the AF2 livery, as an example. Nothing works
@@bleubitz6245 I don’t know why, my only other thought is check which add on directory you are adding to the community folder. The directory containing the individual livery should be in the folder. Excellent clear and concise and very enjoyable. Your videos are very helpful and save a lot of time which can be put to better use like trouble free flying. I just wondered if you have had anything to do with Airbus H145 and the others in that series. It does not appear that MS have provided anything especially for helicopters unlike X-plane 11 where controls specific to these are recognised. I would like to map the collective to some control other than specified by design. I would ideally like to use the flap control on the Thrustmaster quadrant instead of the throttle. This is possible in X-Plane 11 but they don't have a great selection of Helicopters.
Hi when i put the salty 747 in community folder dont work but the liveries work why is that not working can you help me but i extract it with the win rar and it wont work
I am bit concerned about the risks these manual addons brings with em. At present it may be that only enthusiasts generate freeware/payware and get it on these sites. Over time some bad guys will may discover that entry without controls/scans and use it to bring harmful software on our systems. How is the experience on the other simulator platforms and their according addon websites? Would it not be better to get MS to look at freeware addons at first? e.g. virus scan, code checks for potential performance issues etc.
Ra Kon , hi, you make an interesting point. There is not really a history of problems of deliberate malware with add ons, and your first line of defence has to be your antivirus software on your machine. The threat however is there. Regards
