- In case you missed it, #Buick is now an all SUV brand. That’s right, no more new LeSabres or Regals prowling American streets. But with the new utility-minded mission also comes a new focus on style, and they’re about to shake things up in the small crossover segment with this all-new #Envista. #BuickEnvista

I own one. Smooth driving. No problem in passing. I love it.
Leave it to GM to make something that looks good enough people may want to drive it, then kill it with a powertrain that makes passing on a two-lane road a white knuckle experience. And that’s before you put any more weight (passengers) in it.
Don’t worry give it a few years and Gm will perfect it and then promptly cancel it.
@@mumwifeteacher😂
General Motors this reminds me of when you brought back the nova
@@chrissullivan5752 I drove late 80”s novas and for a basic car they were good as long as it was a 5 speed.
And without AWD
If this has the typical sound deadening and vibration tuning that Buick's are known for then this is a pretty decent vehicle. Being a GM, the mid grade will be discounted to low 20s. Rental fleets will buy these up in huge volumes and you can look forward to 2-3 year old used models for like 13k.
As expensive as used cars are, that would be amazing. Just depends on if the 1.2 is reliable.
good point
@@dforrest4503that’s what I’d be worried about as well, but at the same time, with a car so cheap, you got to give a little somewhere nowadays.
I like these a lot, I just wish it had a more conventional 4-cyl, with hybrid option would be nice. Like the original Encore, I think this will sell well but will be derided by "enthusiasts."
If anything, it would be derided for the reliability issues it will likely have, particularly from that overworked three cylinder engine. GM hasn't exactly been good at small turbo engines; take it from someone who got burned from foolishly purchasing a car of theirs that had a 1.4T. NEVER again...
@@TheZoemanThe awful old 1.4 was totally unrelated to these new 3-banger engines. They're built in Korea and so far have a pretty decent track record, or at least I haven't heard any horror stories yet. Both the 1.2 and 1.3 have been around for several years now.
@@TheZoeman What makes you think that developers, engineers, and testers cannot possibly make a 3 cyl engine that can withstand a turbo? These people know way more than you and I. Do you really think they just took a turbo and a 3 cyl engine then just tossed it together willy nilly then sold it to the masses? No. The same was said of my Escape. Weak engine that people thought would be overworked and today it has 208k miles. Nothing happened to the engine.
MotorWeek updates give me a good reason to look forward to Mondays 😜

Buick makes premium looking vehicles, but no substance underneath that skin. It's a veneer...Avenir
Might be a fine vehicle to lease for 2-3 years. We had an 2015 Encore for 7 years and once it got to around 50,000 miles, it really started aging badly. My parents' 2015 Enclave only has 40,000 miles, but needed a new transmission not long ago (and fortunately covered under extended warranty).
At some point we lost our way. We traded wagons for small coupe SUV’s that have suv handling and sedan size storage. It’s like someone asked for the worst of both worlds.
“…but I like to sit up high”
@@EricAtMazda and you see how that philosophy is so prevalent, in the USA. With one of the highest global obesity rates…
Minivans killed the wagon. SUVs killed the minivan. Crossovers and trucks killed the sedans. Americans just don't fit in hatchbacks...
Subaru still makes wagons. They like to call them SUVs but wagons they are, the Ascent being the exception.
@@ezrashonor The 2024 Outback sits up way higher than a conventional sedan. It's a wagon on stilts.
The idea that anyone is taking the Envista to a drag strip to race is hilarious. And that's less a criticism more than it's just not the vehicle for that.
To be fair, any car that doesn't crack into at least the 13s isn't even worth the time or effort to take to a formal drag strip. Just find an isolated flat road and use an app to measure if you must.
@@oldtwinsna8347 I would argue that plenty of people drive cars as fast, if not faster, than what you describe and never once race them, on a drag strip or anywhere else.
It's just not some people's thing and something just knowing that your car is capable of hyper-legal speeds is enough.
Love the new logo, looks kinda like the Monster Energy Drink Logo
I have an Encore, one of the last years made and I still love that car. I wish they had kept it with the all wheel drive option because in the snow and ice, it's one of the better vehicles. I drive about 20 miles a day to commute to work and live in upstate NY where it snows and in the snow...I see people with 4 wheel drive struggle and my little Encore just keeps on moving. I would love to buy one of the Envista's, but until they give us an all wheel drive option, I won't give up my Encore.
My only concern is, how long will the motor and transmission last?😬
Not long! Buy a Toyota and get triple the mileage and life span!
@@Justacogg As long as you're fine with driving a car with a poorly designed interior, plastic wheel covers, and 3-speed wipers like it's a 1988 economy car.
@Flordah_man_life My 2017 Mazda 3 has a Korean transmission and I haven't had any issues with mine.
It's not a cvt! Gm makes the best transmissions in the world! And turbo cars just do your oil changes regularly! This buick is going to surprise everyone!
@OCAMARO it better or I'm gonna be left without a car 😂
In places where it snows the rear brake/ turn lights being mounted low in the bumper will get covered quickly creating a slight hazard
I'm really considering getting one, just test drove it today and it is handling nice, it looks modern and sleek
They should offer it with the 2.0 ltr. That would be awesome.
A 2.0 Turbo. For the ST. But would there be room in that engine bay?
That 1.2T looked like it filled the entire front bay under the hood.
GM was never good at packaging, especially for maintenance.
The last GM product my parents had was a 2005 GMC Envoy. The water pump went out. The grill, the radiator, the hoses, the alternator, the cooling fan assembly, and the accessory belt had to be removed just to get access to the pump. A huge jump. And then when you reassemble it, all new hoses and belts had to be used because the older ones would just fall apart. They we made to be one use only.
The dealer wanted $1800 for the replacement. Parts and labor. Total parts cost $340.
My dad and I bought the parts and did it ourselves. He was a jet engine mechanic for 24 years in the Air Force. And he said dropping a J79 from an F-4E was easier than changing that GMC Envoy's water pump.
so they should skip over the 1.4 and the 1.5 and go straight to the 2.0 interesting
@@vapsa56 Just had a water pump went out on our older Toyota Avalon 3.5 liter V6. Exactly the same thing - they took apart the front of the car to get to it. Total parts were around 350 dollars, total with labor was around 1,500 dollars.
@@00_UU I had to replace the the water pump in my 2005 Dodge Caravan a couple of years ago. It cost me $16 and took me about 1.5 hours to replace. I took my time.
@@dj1111s the point was that GM is not the only manufacturer that makes cars hard to service. My other car is GM and it has been amazing so far.

Pontiac and Mercury died but somehow Buick still lives. Cruel irony of this world.
It's because Buick is big in China

Are the brake lights really down in the bumper and the basic taillights up high?????
I just one of these the other day and that blue color is amazing in person. I wish I could get that color on a different brand.
This car looks awesome and is priced really well, but I feel it would drastically benefit from a hybrid or PHEV drivetrain option. The Volt drivetrain in this would be perfect.
You're talking about a much more expensive car if they did that. The Envista was designed to be their cheapest entry-level offering.
@@palebeachbum
It would definitely be more expensive yes, but the Envista is cheap as it is and would be a good base for a more expensive version with a nicer drivetrain. This Interior/Exterior would work well for a $30K+ PHEV.
@@CrazyWeeMonkey Sure, for a different model based on this I can see that.

Well this was a nice surprise.
I keep seeing these on the road and it turns my head every time. Unfortunately finding out that it only has an underpowered fwd power train was truly disappointing. Really hoping there’s a more powerful awd model available in the future.
This seems like the answer I’ve been looking for I drive a 2018 BMW 640i gran turismo which they stop making. I wish this had four-wheel-drive though maybe in a year or two if it does, I’m on it.
Brake lights way down low in the rear bumper. Why? At least you won't be able to see the rear-end collision coming because there's no rear wiper.
It has a high mounted brake light.
it seems to be a korean car thing.
The rap on all of the SUVs on the road is that they all look alike. Buick hit a home run with this car. Another review I watched yesterday said that people thought it was a Porsche. I am definitely going to wait the second year and see if the 2025 will have all wheel drive.
Beautiful vehicle but a little worried about the 3 cyclinder butting out 137HP. Any hopes of maybe bumping that up a bit.
This thing with a 2.0T or a 3.6, AWD, and more interior features (larger screen, better stereo, cooled seats) would be an awesome car. They made it too budget for the design with that 3 banger and no AWD.
They don’t even want to put those engines in their big vehicles anymore
AWD is a waste of money & adds unnecessary weight.
@@Cincy32 you must not live somewhere with Arctic winters.
@@devn3813 I live in Ohio. Too many people don't know how to drive in the snow - the right tires, right speeds, & keep your car in low gear. ...and then it would be a $35-$40k vehicle...
I seen one in Avenir in Pearl White with the 20" premium wheels and it looked tf GOOD. This should have been bigger and made it Enclave or better yet Electra with the twin turbo v6....priced at 60k for top trim out the door with all options. Looks very similar to the Lamborghini Urus
Styling is excellent!

Pretty solid for the price!
I read somewhere that the 1.2 engine has an oil soaked timing belt, and oil soaked oil pump belt??? But the 1.3 has a timing chain. If that’s the case, why wouldn’t they just put the 1.3 in the Buick?
As with the Trax, they created something more affordable and entry level for their brands, which is welcome when the average transaction price for a vehicle in the US is close to $50k. That's also why they used the older 6-speed automatic instead of the newer GM CVT or the 9 speed since the 6-speed is cheaper to make.
That sounds similar to what Ford does with their 3cyl engines in the EcoSport - Those things are junk with a short lifespan, built for obsolescence.

Buick needs to go back to making good cars again here in NA...I had a 98 Buick LeSabre, one of the best cars I've ever owned until subframe rotted. Most people aren't even aware Buick is even still around.
Why did they put the brake lights so low on this thing? Rear end accidents are inevitable.
This car is remarkably similar to the current gen Citroën C4. The body style is similar, both being coupe-like crossovers. Even the engines are similar, the Citroën also has a 1.2 liter turbo 3-cylinder with similar power. However, the Citroën has an 8-speed automatic, compared to the Buick's 6-speed.
That might be a clue. Somebody said that one of the BUICK models is made in CHINA.

I'd lease this thing but I wouldn't own it with that engine out of warranty. I'm glad it has a 6 speed auto instead of a CVT though.
I still much prefer the Encore. And the older Buick emblem. Not a fan of the over-simplication of car emblems. But it is affordable.
Mpg?
3 cylinder Turbo isn’t that crazy in a small suv. Keep in mind most 1/2 ton trucks nowadays are using 4 and 6 cylinder turbo engines in a lot heavier vehicles.
You're absolutely correct. The 2.7 liter in the Silverado is based on the same engine architecture as this 1.2l and makes the same horsepower per liter. Don't know why everyone complains so much about the engine, it's plenty fast enough for around town and on the highway especially weighing only 3000 lbs. I recommended this car for my mother because of the small engine. There's more space around it to work on it than nearly any other modern car. Everything is easy to get to. Her previous car is a 2013 VW Jetta TDI that she put over 400,000 miles on (she still has that car as well). The power to weight ratio is nearly the same and nobody ever complained about the power in those cars. And my only maintenance experience with this car so far (oil change) was one of the easiest ever. There are doors in the belly pan for easy access of the oil drain plug and filter. The filter is a standard PF64/UPF64R/PH12060 type, is placed vertically behind the door, and the oil drain plug is also vertical behind the door, so the oil drains straight down, instead of overshooting the drain pan and getting oil all over the bottom of the car. It also specs a 5w-30 oil, not a ridiculously thin 0w-16 or 0w-8 oil. The gas mileage is excellent and only gets better with higher octane fuel. 32 mpg average on 87, 35-36 average on 89, 38 average on 93. The engine also runs much quieter on midgrade or premium than on regular. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this car or the new Trax compared to other cars in the same size range.
@@theodorgiosan2570 the engine displacement complaints is rooted in an archaic thought process. they probably still believe that cars have become LESS reliable and WORSE built than the ones from decades past.
You're right, but high-stressed small turbo engines are not a good idea for long-term durability.

Yes. Buick would like the avg. owner age returned to 75.
I think these look so nice, but I test drove one, and the seat belt socket was jabbing into my right thigh. Not much width for a plus-sized driver.
Do a 1.5 turbo 3-4 banger in there to inprove acceleration to 7.5-7.8 0-60 & 15.8 1%4
It's a looker and unlike any Buick before.

@@Magnus_Magnusson_702 an acquaintance owned a 2015 Chevy Cruze. He owned it for 150k miles. In that time the alternator died, the turbo blew twice, and a sensor failed, killing another sensor simultaneously, which caused the transmission to downshift into 2nd gear at 80mph. Scared him so bad he fixed it and immediately sold it. I'd say GM Korea cars are better overall than those circa 2000 Daewoos, but they're still not great cars. The 1.2L turbo in the Trax/Envista has a timing belt instead of a timing chain as a cost cutting measure, which is pretty unheard of these days among small engines. Even Hyundai/Kia all use timing chains and I've never heard of that part failing on one. GM Korea does have some history with their timing belts snapping, killing the engine. I know it was an issue on the Aveo.
@@palebeachbum I believe it! He said he has at least 7 of the 1.4 turbo motors with the same issue and some fortunately are still under the manufacturer's warranty or have the GM warranty and therefore they're getting a brand new engine or a refurbished one through GM which would have been much nicer had my friend gotten that...but anyway, I'm done with GM I now own a Tesla Model 3 Performance 2020 as that's all I could afford but I love it so much I'm so happy with it!!
@RowdyMagnusson, and your point is? The previous Encore was built in South Korea and consistently rated very high in reliability and was Buick’s best selling model. By the way, the Cruze was NOT a Daewoo built product. The Sonic was, two totally different cars. The 1.4 Ecotec in the Cruze was designed by Opel in Germany, not by Daewoo and the engines put in US models were built in Michigan so the engine problem you mention has nothing to do with Daewoo.
What's wrong with "hatchback?" That's what it is, and that makes it more desirable I think. Classic hatchback (kamm-back) profile.

It's so sad to see people trying to convince us that what we want is a car with a tiny puny little 3 cylinder motor that makes progress down the road. I remember when we all wanted a powerful motor with 8 cylinders. Sorry, I need a car that has a reserve of power. Power for passing, for going up mountains, for bragging rights. Tiny motors do not last long in cars. You deserve more than "just enough power".

Brake lights in the bumper is completely stylish and different...

I agree. To add insult to injury, it's a single red bulb to act as both brake and signal. So when you have your brakes on and signal on, you only have 1 tiny brake light way down low where tailgaters aren't as likely to see it. (not counting the high-mount light that all vehicles have).
