Space Station 13 is a game that you're not going to understand unless you play. It's not a game you can learn by watching or reading, and it is a game you certainly won't master in your first day, week or month. Space station 13 is one of the most insane experiences of my life, a game that has occupied my time for over a decade now. Space station 13 is the roguelike of roguelikes for me, the most wonderful piece of human created madness, and certainly on equal footing with dwarf fortress in terms of sheer complexity. Please join in as I embark again, for just another day on space station 13.

Hint for Skyrat server: a famous Crow chef named Loki is known for making sushi. Fortunately, he also knows how to make kudzu required, if you do not...
Unfortunately, he will be willing to take a hydroponics tray apart to do that. This is why Skyrat version of box station map leaves an extra hydroponics tray in the back.
I was looking at the plants list and thinking "Grow Liberty Caps! Then give them to the chef to cook with. Nothing bad will happen when the entire station is on shrooms, it'll be fiiiiine!" :D
Quick advice : Usually you can directly click on the tray with the plant bag and it will gather the plant if it is grown. Or at least it does on Paradise and TG

I once was playing roboticist, and I made a mk II Ripley and suped it up a bit. I liked it, but never did anything with it. Later, I made a positronic brain and it came online. I asked “you live?” and he said “yeah”. I put him in my mech and told him “do god’s work” and he said “gaming time”, punched a hole in the robotics wall, and disappeared down the hall. I didn’t hear of him again, but I like to think that he fucked shit up somewhere.

I was a cargo tech and someone filled cargo with a bunch of doors
I was removing them and you need to use the welder at one point
One of the doors was made of plasma
I accidentally blew up cargo trying to uninstall a bunch of doors

I have a banana tree in my house. My dad picked it up from Hawaii before I was born. The tree is only like 7 feet tall after 30+ years because we have it in a pot. And also because we live in Alaska and it's too cold for the tree to properly grow. Never seen a flower on the tree my entire life.

Even those who haven't spent all that much time in the game can sometimes experience having a real 'moment'. For me it was relatively early in my modest SS13 career while I was still a noob sticking mostly to Paradise Station, as a lowly cargo technician I defeated a Vampire using a hatchet I had found in maint and labeled 'DEFENDER OF CARGONIA' (I always labeled some makeshift weapon I found, hatchet or crowbar or whatever, when I was a cargo tech back then), saving the Quartermaster in the process, and the Captain gave me a medal. That made me feel pretty cool, not gonna lie.
It's good to have these moments

A good way to just learn stuff is play as prisoner, a lot of vets there and you learn quick
There is third school of chefery : Chef has no idea what he is doing and miraculously he ends up with metric ton of good food. My first try was like that. MORE BREAD, MORE BUN BREAD, MORE WARM DONK POCKETS BREAD, burgers and pizza

I have deduced the craziest SS13 shift possible. Everyone does their jobs by the book and work together to make the station a well oiled machine.

Based on your vids, I'd say the best way to be traitor is a slow patient worker, loyal to the station. Only move when there is existing chaos to exploit. And maybe cut everyone else off when the escape shuttle arrives while you fly away. If that's a thing you can do.

the SS13 role I hope i'd enjoy playing if I ever install it, would be Chef and well Botany.

Fruits and veg grown into weird shapes has been around for a bit, Tex, Google "vegiforms" sometime, guy created a method for growing stuff like eggplants into faces

I have recently started playing and I have found I enjoy the Chaplin role. I have yet to cremate a body, which seems to be the only physical job the role seems to have. I did have a game where I was about to cremate a body when I was injected with things. I got sick. Someone else helped me, I got better, but drunk somehow. So I decided to help someone not doing so well. Drag them to med bay, get them help. Then I got sick again, and the meddies were trying to help me when I exploded infecting the med staff with what I had. I wasn't the center of attention, and I did not intend to let the antagonists win, but it happened. It was fun.

Spinning up a private server is useful in its own way- you can absolutely learn the mechanical side of things or stumble across a handful of funny easter eggs (myself, i like to learn by fucking up horribly and immediately getting pegged as a newbie by everybody on the server), but that definitely won't make you robust or anything. It's just a step up from doing what I do and constantly referring to the construction or surgery guides on the wiki in the middle of the round.

I'd say spinning your own ss13 server is useful for learning the commands and shortcuts but not playing the game itself. I remember the first time I played I went straight into a server and could barely do anything because I literally didn't know how to do it, gameplay wise
