Space Station 13 is a game that you're not going to understand unless you play. It's not a game you can learn by watching or reading, and it is a game you certainly won't master in your first day, week or month. Space station 13 is one of the most insane experiences of my life, a game that has occupied my time for over a decade now. Space station 13 is the roguelike of roguelikes for me, the most wonderful piece of human created madness, and certainly on equal footing with dwarf fortress in terms of sheer complexity. Please join in as I embark again, for just another day on space station 13.

Delta rly is the special squad for special people. Its funny how most of time if there is a serious, hardass SL attached to Delta, who doesnt understand its reputation. The people who dont normally act "special" will act special in the squad just to the overwatch has something to laugh at as the SL tries to control his unit, whilst Bravo chills in their autism fort, Alpha does something actually effective and useful, and Charlie fucks off into no where, never to be seen again.
So being a wrangler for special people is valued over actual command experience for delta?
@@jasonbarnes7281 Quite a bit.
Delta is divided up in 3 parts. The robustos that go around shanking the queen to death with a throwing knife 1v1, the powergamers (that ALWAYS end up dying the first 15minutes because they're bad) and finally those that are just there for the memes
@@beff2372 This. Is true.
Delta gets two people at command meetings because that is the minimum number necessary for them to have a single functioning braincell.
Its funny because anything the marines cant get from their SL lands them in the Req line anyways
This is typically the situation, yes.
I get saving QM from losing their mind, but surely they could just make a 2IC vend the gear for your section. That's how we do it IRL, the section IC (Sargent) goes for briefing while the 2IC (Master Corporal) mothers the section members and makes sure their gear is ready before they form up to meet the IC post brief. The IC comes back, brief's them and we set off once the fireteams and march order is set
That's more or less what happens in CM too. Specialists can vend attachments too and lately it's mostly them doing it, probably cause most Squad Leads hate it.
Sounds right. Real life squad leaders have to solve everyone's problems, from Privates to incompetent command teams.
Other Ranks are the meat, and Officers are (debatably) the brains, but it's the NCOs who actually run the joint
Yea thats why you generally have the smartest person you can get your hands on be the leader
@@acrowsnest_t6630 I wish it could be done that way. The Army doesn't have elected leaders. Most of the the time incompetence is promoted up. Think Peter Principal if you will except people die.
Though sometimes the smartest person isn't always best for the job. I've known a handful of soldiers that were lightyears ahead of me intellectually, but they couldn't think under pressure, lead others, or fully understand the scope of their assigned tasks and purpose.
@@GarrettF33 That's kinda intresting.
Well I'm saying this in the context of the army having invented iq Test as they knew its obviosly important for competence. With no army experience tho, I have heavy doubts that they don't select majorly for intelligence when it comes to leadership positions. But my guess would be that leaders are found and elected by proven actions of valour and competence.
@@acrowsnest_t6630 Not to get stuck in the weeds on this topic, but the enlisted and non-commissioned officer promotion scheme is flawed and leads to a "up or out" mentality. I'd say about half of those that put on Sergeant rank are worth the stripes going in, and only half of those few maintain the drive to lead after promotion.
Officers are 90% rotten and a waste of money and resources. The academies are good ol' boy clubs that drag civies into leadership roles they have zero ground level experience with. We don't promote officers from the ranks very often and it's an utter shame. It'd be like having some guy off the street manage an auto body shop, but he's never once been a mechanic.
"command, we are attempting to beat up the fog"
never a more marine sentence has been said
attempting.
UNGA. Though, Delta tends to be needy. Masa is a badass with a flamer. I've been SLing other squads lately but I am glad someone else yells back at murines asking for things before a guy is dressed.
Well, some people are spoiled babies. Your job as the squad leader is to yell at spoiled babies.
Delta SLs do not die. They just become stronger than we can ever imagine.
Or more "Challenged"
The other day i was in a customers garage and saw he had a old monitor box FULL of crayons. I started to laugh. Then i had explain deltards.
Hahaha I've misses these so much.
Random Grunt: "What if you shoot us?"
RPC: "NO MORE QUESTIONS!"
Its gonna sound bad but I love that this is still a small niche community that I love being apart of
It sounds genuine. Which in the modern world, is bad
"... requesting fire support on fog."
I'm dying xD
It's almost analogous to the movie how those guys that are all kitted out run in and die so horribly. I love it.
But didn't Ripley Duck-Taping a pulse rifle and flamer together to create a combo-Rifle-Flamer-Grenade-launcher count as a super-custom weapon?
I didn't see any crayons and glue in that vend .
Xmodd55 glue is back-ordered indefinitely and they ate all the crayons while nobody was looking.
@@thatoneleftist at least leave some scented markers a man can get hungry from fighting alums.
Tex, did you know that you can put your lighter INTO your package of cigs? Assuming you took out at least one cig, that is.
Also, you can just take the big box of shotgun shells and just directly dump it into your ammo load rig. CM has gotten pretty good at little convenience tweaks like that.
yeah he dumped shells into his belt at some point, though i think there's always going to be that habit to manually do it by hand. =P
Admit it, you searched for tips to give him after he said he'd get some just past a minute and a half...
@@tranz2deep I admit nothing!
I played this game for the first time a couple days ago. I started as a medical doctor trying to treat an injured mime who can't tell me what's wrong because he can't talk. Mean while, a clown keeps shoving me out of the way and honking at the mime. Apparently, the clown set up a bomb just to fuck with the mime. The mime died soon after.
And nothing of value was lost
@@theblackpantslegion Exactly. It's a great game.
"I wouldn't take the mod 88 it's bad"
Excuse me that is my fucking BABY you're talking about. It's good in it's own way.
I have been pulled into the vortex of watching these SS13 videos. I cannot escape.
Oh dear. That's a long list. I hope you emerge unscathed.
@@theblackpantslegion Thanks for the reply, it really made my day.🙂 I've decided to move over to the 'best of' playlist though for uh...you know....sanity reasons.
Was hoping you'd upload this one. I was the LT, watching you all die on overwatch. Loved it.
Good job on overwatch
Eh I could of tried better to save you. You missed it but because you died after charging me for therapy I said "SLs dead, I guess I dont have to pay him any more." haha.
Before SLs had to dispense the gear I tried to be a QM guy once, in true SS13 spirit of learning by doing.
Took me about 5 minutes to work out how to do stuff being helped by the marine who was at the front of the queue.
And then someone asked for grenades, and I proudly dispensed the grenade, went to hand it over, hit the detonator button, panicked but managed to sprint across the equipment area just in time to only blow my own arm off and do no damage to anyone else.
Next round I went back to being a designated Deltard Flare Carrier.
Great. Now everytime I see or hear ATF I'll be thinking "always throw flares"
Always Throw Flares
@@theblackpantslegion morning Tex. Good job on the video and I always love listening to these videos because you give enough details that i dont actually need to watch, like while I'm at work, and I can still enjoy the experience.
I would follow commander Checkers into the depths of hell itself! Because that's where the best loot is.
Not all Deltards run off and die. Some of us get hit by OBs or FF.
I really want to try CM, but it's taken me a year just to understand Botany in Goon. I have no guide on how to Marine or Alien, which is a great shame
The best way to learn is to know nothing at all and dying horrible!
Chech the wiki. they have quick start guides and everything. you can also join the discord, and people are mostly pretty friendly
You dont need to be really good , you just have to walk around, listen to your radio, and get yelled at by your fellow marines for accidentally mag dumping into your squad leader because you didnt know the game has friendly fire
@@Zeithri I tried that once on TG. I was a Chef, was asked it I was new, said yes, beaten to death and reported, was told by Mods I wasn't allowed
@@AngelWolf12 thats just something you gotta calculate in when playing spaceman simulator
FORM OF ANGEREY SNEK!
Most Angery
You're so right with the little requisition's tangent. It's funny honestly because the powergaming unga marines will often end up the first on the ground dead or capped, bringing all of their glorious glorious barrel-charged shotguns with them. Meanwhile the smartgunner and a couple of marines with pulse rifles will roll over xenos. And the ungas end up getting entitled too, see the one guy who asked for ANOTHER barrel charger. Like bruh there's only one in the SL line
Deltards Assemble!!
Also my new favourite weapon for CM has to be a fully customised
smartscoped, EB, LS marksman stock revolver, perfect for unoptimisable playstyle
Peak deltardiness, well done sir
God, the thumbnail is just too good for this world
Indeed it is
So cozy
That thumbnail is pure art
That it certaintly is!
Reminds me of real life service
Most optimal way to not lose to Xenos...
Dont go to spes... Problem solved...
Other than that, scream and run.. works a charm. Mostly.
Caffeine fueled Raccoon ... mostly.
I love that intro so much
God Dammit Tex first you make me buy Battletech books and minis and now you got me hooked on farty spaceman you are doing horrible things too my free time. But now without joking thanks for showing me those two I really quite enjoy them.
Edit: Fixed a few spelling errors I caught.
Last time i was in CM was when they were starting to introduce these skill level mechanics.
No tanks etc.
I remember some quite fearsome runners, some of them are a nightmare.
HAHAHAHA, that was me, i forgot the mix and blew myself up XD

Tex, I Want my sketti juice beer
fog beating operation... hilarous
Dear Tex,
Where's the fucking quartermaster!? A squad leader needs to delegate.
Yr Obt Svt,
JG
1 minute 15 seconds (counting the opening) and they're beating each other.
Optimal =/= fun
Ah yes, 800 AZ ideas.
Like the time Arizona had a Navy.
You guys needed long tall sally or fortunate son playing on the dropship.
Having not played much Colonial Marines and having played a fair bit as QM, my personal take as a QM would be to give QMs a circulation system where they can designate shit to go to different squads' vendors. So there's the public vendors which draw from the squad inventory for each squad, with maybe one Squad Leader vendor per squad for shit QM wants to give to the SL. So instead of SL getting bitched at for inventory, which doesn't make a damn lick, have the bitching primarily directed at QM for not designating.
I like that idea. I like it a lot
I'd follow SL Tex anywhere. Not saying I'd be any actual use to the squad alive, but I'd still follow.
Tex vs the fog of war
Look man, the fog had to go
Adapt overcome survive maggot it time to smell the sunshine.
If Tomas Crappington does not become a character and end up in a round alongside Randolph P. Checkers, and does not tell Randolph about how they wrote the book on aliens,
I will be severely disappointed.
God damn those guys INSTANTLY started asking you for stuff while you were in your underware, makes me kinda wanna play SL to punch people in the face make them use the most basic crap and LIKE IT
Man, it's been a few months since I've been back to CM. Going to jump on tonight for a round I think.
I hope I can save your ass on the field one of these days
Aaaaaaaand now my Platoon Commander in my Imperial Guard force is named Randolph...
I'm happy you said IG and not AM
Man, the difference between all the different attachments, excluding some of the scopes, feels largely minimal. It seems like everybody can get a competent set up out of the vendors in the squad equipment area. Although I guess I'm not terribly good at fighting them benoshoes, all I generally want from req is some boomies. A nade or two would be nice. My problem with this VEND EVERYTHING mentality that PFCs like to push is that by the time I get to req all the nades are gone. My fault for being slow.
How does one perform the crab run? That shit was hilarious
This why we can't have nice things
Demands for gear before I have clothes would likely result in the perpetrator becoming a "grenade related statistic" but then I'm probably grumpier by default than you younglings.
I can see why the SL has to issue gear to give the xenos time to set up but it's still not what I'd call optimal. It's their server though, they do things their way. I have tried it, probably on the wrong day though as I frequently struggle with too many inputs and chat was moving so fast I had no smegging clue what was happening. This may just be normal though.
Good Job.
Would it be frowned upon if I wanted to be squad mule and just carry and dispense shit?
I feel like that would be my calling in this.
that could be an interesting role.
@@theblackpantslegion I just like being a helper.
@@Kerze you should probably go for the synth WL, Jack of all trades non-combatant. Just gotta learn every non-combat role inside out.
How is Colonial Marines? I've been playing SS13 on and off for like a decade or something now but I've never touched any of the like, "spinoff" games.
It's quite good
I kinda wish we'd could tell who won in the end, idk
Tex should play charlie and not vend anything till everyone attends Charlie breakfast.
Charlie Breakfast, interesting
The right way to play ss13 is NOT the optimal way. It's the exact opposite.
Have you tried TGMC lately? It's like cm but without the xeno bias.
I don't play TGMC
This is almost as good as Side Corn
Too bad there isn't a system where they submit things on a form and the squad leader just approves/denies that? Yes, that turns it into Paperwork: The simulator, but It could cut some of the BS.
You know, have a checklist Shotgun (x) Pistol (X) ammo (X)
Just uncheck what you don't want them to have?
IDK.
@TheBlackPantsLegeon when will you get back to playing Homeworld?
once a week, you'll see some homeworld
Hey, I challenge you sir, a damn Duel.
@@chrisjones7594 calm yourself good sir, I meerly wished to know when Tex would take us back to the flying banana, so we may bask in the glory that is Homeworld.
Ah the relatively new practice of squad req dumping, my least favourite part of being an SL, eh it’s not like delta is gonna survive five minutes with me in charge.
It is a shit mechanic, tbh
Just a question here.....I watched your Episode 1 of Homeworld. Where are the other episodes ?
soon enough. Be patient. Once a week.

Is it possible to delegate a squadie to give out stuff instead of the SL? Or maybe even the engineer, but I dunno
The Specialist has access.
@@scottmacgregor3444 huh, do Sls assign them or do most do it by themselves?
@@discordinmymind6565No real set pattern.
Makes sense, its probably easier to let the SL handle it instead of trying to reach a squaddie
I am a little surprised that you are still on this server after all of the drama on it's discord.
I don't read their discord nor really participate in it.
I play the game for the game. I pay no attention to who supposedly said what to who about what, or who did x, y, and z. It's ss13. There's always a witchhunt, and outing, and a court of public inquiry. I choose to just play the game
The SL doesn't have to do the vending. He can tell the Specialist to do it.
Speaking of deltards, is the CM community still burning down? heard something about someone protecting pedophiles and whatnot.
Typical gaming community, to be frank.
@@davidr5284 Typical big community, to be frank.

TEX UR NOT OPTIMALLY ROLE PLAYING THE ROLE PLAY GAME
Housing developments in the US are flawed and overly focused on Single Family Dwellings. From the perspective of infrastructure and transportation this is far less efficient even under nominal conditions, and it's being employed in places unsuited to it. It's bad for the enviroment and raises housing costs. You can build nice mid and high rise apartment buildings with 50-125 square meter apartments with less footprint cheaply and efficiently from prefab components. There is no technological reason for there to be a housing shortage in the US, only an ideological one.
Its called Capitalism my dude, it's shit. Just MO
Urbanization has nothing to do with Marxism. The trend towards urbanization has been going on for like 300 years, well before Karl Marx was born.
Not caring about the environment is engineering an extinction event (Anthroponcene) like the one that did in the dinosaurs. Moving vast sections of the population into space will take centuries of development. Climate Change may very well be the Great Filter.
Housing is a Technological problem since homes are by definition a Technology. Infrastructure matters, if you think it does not live without power, water, heating or food delivery. Single family dwellings are inevitably less efficient for a city’s population because of their low density and dependence on automobiles.
Too many crayons, or maybe too few?
The line “BUT CHINA” is useless when discussing environmental policies. Leaving aside the fact that China is the world’s leading investor in sustainable power and the fact that per capita China emits less CO2 than the US doing nothing because someone else is doing nothing is a remarkably good way of ensuring that nothing gets done.
Kurgezart did a good video on climate change and international CO2 emissions.
Tex. You have played SO much SS13 you should know by now the OPTIMAL way to be a marine is to not go to briefing and to eat crayons. How dare you play poorly and make me slap my keyboard with the fury of gods to give you my right opinion. Jeez.
You forgot about getting into a fight with either another marine or an MP, preferably DURING briefing.
@@scottmacgregor3444 I also forgot that he should have thrown a grenade into a group of his squadmates before you even see a xeno
@@Usernamesdontmatter1 and as soon as he does see a xeno he needs to empty his pulse rifle into the marines closest to the xeno without actually hitting the xeno.
