Honestly disagree with that. Just because he stopped putting every single creature out there over his own survival, doesn't make him a villain in my opinion. The sirens would have killed him and the crew, so he killed them first to protect his and his men's lives here
@@leslies9181 Sure, but he's was also being unnecessarily ruthless, he's like a villain with a good goal in mind, but does whatever it takes to reach that goal. A broken hero, who now knows being kind will not get you what you want.
@niapurdue230 he essentially did to them what they would have done to him if it was reversed. Make them drown. Cutting of their tails was the way to make them lose the ability to swim, so that they would drown. Was he being a bit dramatic with that decision? Maybe. Still does not make him a villain for killing the predator that was about to kill him. At least not in my opinion
Poseidon isn't scared of Scylla in the original poems. The problem is her lair is near Charybdis his transformed daughter who was made into a monster and lost her mind as a punishment for sinking islands and trying to expand Poseidon's territory. It's too hard for him to be around her because he hates sèing her like that.
The fun part of "Different beasts" is how much different it is from the source, where Odyseuss actually just had his men tie him to the mast, while the rest was using the beeswax tactic...all because Odyseuss wanted to hear their song. These two songs really work as "Odyseuss turning into the monster" and the replacement for how they get home, as the prophet in the source actually gives them direction and a warning (but more on that later). "There is a world where I help you get home" (refrencing the original story)
6:49 "I thought Odysseus was going to become the monster, bad and scary. He seems pretty much the same." famous last words right before listening to Different Beast for the 1st time

@@DevinDoingstuff And even if there wasn't, gill-based breathers can still drown if they can't push water into their gills. Like Sharks when they get their fins cut off and they're tossed back. They suffer slow deaths just for mid soup broths..
Most fishes who can pump and push water through their gills do so with the muscle of their mouths. Hypothetically Sirens mouths and nose can breath regular air with lungs, their gills are probably not directly connected to their upper body respiratory system so that they don't drown their lungs so it would make sense that Siren need to move to breath underwater, but can breath freely above water.
I will note that Monster is the end of Act 1 so if this is a stage play, there is an intermission before that and this song to symbolize a passage of time between then and now where they left the Underworld
People say they would kill to get this or that, but those who actually have to, for whatever reason, tend to struggle with that, whether only briefly or permanently. Suffering is one of my favourite songs. You can tell that when Odysseus says "kill them all" and "let them drown" at least some of the crew wanted to distance themselves from becoming the monsters fully because they started singing in "he is" instead of "we are".

BrittPowwPixel does a really nice subtle thing with Eurylochus during this one (and it's probably their nicest looking animatic). It's fantastic to see you get so hooked with this musical! But I do beg you, please, do go for Nealillustrator's Thunderbringer. It is just soooooooooooooooooo good, and more than deserves to be your first look at that song.
Back with a few facts! Let’s start with the music: - The way sirens work in Epic is that they have to completely get inside your head. It’s not just one note and you’re done. While Odysseus was putting the beeswax in, she managed to get a few facts, but they got jumbled. The first two are clear, but others are that she didn’t get to the tune of Penelope or her instrument. Instead, she’s using the instrument of someone else Odysseus cares about- Polites. - Some responses to the siren have a double meaning. He’d die for Penelope, but he’d also die if he jumped in. “Don’t you miss me?” “More than you know.” He misses Penelope more than the siren, or even the real Penelope knows. - This is the first of Tiresias’ prophecies that comes true- sing of past romance. - Since the other men aren’t talking to her, they don’t see her mention Scylla. Only Odysseus knows that going through Scylla’s cave, paying the “cost”, is the one way home. You’ll notice he didn’t tell that to his men. - The tune “he will chase you high and low” is to the same beat as “he will burn your house and throne. He’ll find you wherever you go” from The Horse and The Infant. - “Twelve years or so” is a reference to when Jorge accidentally wrote that Odysseus told Circe it’d been twelve years since Odysseus has seen Penelope. Now it’s a running joke. -Jorge has made it canon that when Odysseus says “you know I’m too shy” he “nervously” tucks a piece of hair behind his ear. Fun bit of canon outside the songs, like how in Warrior of the Mind young Odysseus tries to high five Athena. Animatic: - In Suffering, there are moments when she tries to get the spell to work the screen pulsates with her attempts - 5:13 Gigi shows the siren’s tale for a split second -The child siren isn’t real. It’s a hallucination made from bone and seaweed (confirmed from Gigi). No child sirens were harmed in the making of this animatic 😂 - At 13:18 Ximena drew two drowning sirens reaching for each other as they sink. - The emotions she put into the sirens, even though they’ll just be around for a split second, is heartbreaking. One is scared, one is hiding, and the other two are protective. (Friggin love Ximena XD) Side note- I beyond highly recommend VirasAP’s version of Scylla. It’s beautifully haunting and terrifying, just like she is.
Jorge’s team actually held open auditions via TikTok to cast the final recordings. The only people he knew going into it (other than certain family members) was Teagan Early (Athena) from school; and I believe Armando Julián (Eurylochus) whom he met at an audition for Hamilton. He met Talya Sindel (Circe) through the auditioning process-she actually auditioned for Zeus. Meanwhile, Anna Lea (Penelope/Sirens) originally auditioned for another character that you’ll meet soon.
The first clue that something is wrong in "Suffering" is that Penelope is not accompanied by her signature intrument, the viola. BUT, while trying to fish out something to drag him into the water (In this version the sirens can read the minds of whom listen to their song), she find something else: that is why there is no viola, but a Marimba... Polities' signature instrument.
"What does a Monster look like in Odysseus' eyes?" We actually know the answer to this already. He told us in Monster that he considers the version of himself who used the Trojan Horse to slaughter the city of Troy and killed the Infant way back in the beginning of the musical to be his Monster self. In other words, his idea of a Monster is Athena's Warrior of the Mind. A brilliant tactician and warrior who's able to ignore his emotions in order to make whatever hard choices he needs to in order to make it back home alive with as many of his men as possible.
After that initial statement of "His Girlfriend singing" - it's probably important to get the order the correct way around. Talya auditioned (initially for Zeus, then got Circe), therefore they met. And then became a couple after this occurred
At the beginning, it would be weird if Odysseus was scared of the water. But at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he was, since the God of water wants him dead 😂
My Interpretation Is that Odysseus sees planning someone's death the most monstrous thing you can do, like, fighting and killing Is fine If you're pushed against a wall but to scheme someone's downfall like sadist Is what he considers truly monstrous.

Myth fact : The original Sirens was not mermaid (half woman, half fish), but they were more harpy like (head of woman, bird body). you can see these representation on old greek vase. Rare Odysseus wit win. For a man whose greatest advantage is his intelligence it sure hasn't been useful in Epic... 11:15 I love the predatory eye movements in this part. Edit: I'm willing to bet that each of those tails is about 40lbs... maybe more... of fish meat. I will say this: it's weird no one on the ship is a fisherman. Ithaca is an island nation and most Greek city-states didn't have standing armies (standing armies weren't a thing in general until quite recently, like 1400s is when they started being REAL things) so fishing was probably an extremely common skill set for Ithaca, which is rocky by the way... the Odyssey has Ody tells us that himself.
Hello, loved the reaction. Next song is Scylla, i suggest going with GiGi animatic, for the last 2 songa, mutiny and thunder bringer, i suggest watching both in the same video
I am of the opinion that the animatics are quite misleading in different beast. Odysseus isn't being pointlessly brutal in that scene, he is actually trying to be ruthless, which is cruel, yes, but for efficiency. I think the idea that the sirens are just laying there defenseless is a misportrayal, these are sea monsters, they would flailing and clawing, they couldn't have been tied together like it's shown. They're caught in nets in the song, and most likely the tails are the only thing the men can reach without taking a meaningful risk.
Hei. Here to remind you to keep reacting to Alien Stage You can do 2 videos per reaction (the next is the series trailer and Round 2 is short... an amazing)
Sadly this is actually one of my 2 least favorite segments of "epic the musical" The reason for this is that The book version of the Odyssey is already quite brutal. But these 2 songs greatly increase the brutality beyond what exists in the book. In the book version of the Odyssey the crew stuffs their ears full of beeswax, while Odysseus chains himself to the mast to listen too their song.. and they just row past the sirens. so no massive massacres are involved in that segment of the story. It may fit the them of "odysseus the monster" but frankly I don't see the need to add so more despair to a story already as full of despair in its original form as the Odyssey
As the next three: Gigi's Scylla ruclips.net/video/aPxjbWbhyPc/видео.htmlsi=gPwmq427s30PNr4l Crashite's OR Riley G's Mutiny (I like Crashite's more, but it's a preference) ruclips.net/video/FLrsi0bRlK4/видео.htmlsi=nCTNaK3faPGBzEgj ruclips.net/video/4Vzgqlb28pY/видео.htmlsi=U5FRcSXcdB3vhndd Duvetbox's Thunder Bringer ruclips.net/video/MWjmMKCEwrA/видео.htmlsi=fSLgh7I13GHTdxq3 This Thunder Bringer is more Canon than the other massively popular one done by Neil Illustrator. Neil's is fantastic, and you should watch it, but it does end in an odd place for our main cast and would be confusing for a later song. Its debatable, some stories and legends do like to mention that if you eat meat from a monster then you become a monster yourself.

They might not be idiots, but one is a hypocrite 🫣
Can you react to hitohira no hanabira music video
Sadly this is actually one of my 2 least favorite segments of "epic the musical"
The reason for this is that The book version of the Odyssey is already quite brutal.
As the next three:

Crashite's OR Riley G's Mutiny (I like Crashite's more, but it's a preference)

Duvetbox's Thunder Bringer

This Thunder Bringer is more Canon than the other massively popular one done by Neil Illustrator. Neil's is fantastic, and you should watch it, but it does end in an odd place for our main cast and would be confusing for a later song. But Neil's designs are top tier!
