21:32 - (Me who doesn't know the story and listening to it the first time) - oh, a cow? 🤔 (Lyle, hears a singular MOO) - lord have mercy for what's about to happen.....
You are the only person I have ever heard analysing Scylla's part like that 'deep down we are the same' = we are monsters but deep down not really. DUDE I LITERALLY GOT CHILLS
Helios: Why is there a ship near my island? Eury: I'm just a man! Ody: Eury nooo!!! Helios: Bessie no!!! Helios: You killed my cow, my favorite cow. Ody: Oh not this again, you doomed us all! Helios: You lost your sun privileges mortals! *everything fades to black.* Zeus: Calm down man I'll punish them. Helios: Fine.
The best part is he dragged the sun to the underworld. Just imagine the flashbang that Hades had to deal with. Quiet day in the underworld, the war has ended and it's been a while since 550 new souls drowned, things have calmed down and then suddenly boom, a sun directly in the middle of his throne room until Zeus calms Helios down.
Fun fact about this saga: Jorge had been so tight lipped about the first two songs that we didn't even know the names of the songs. And then he revealed that they would be completely unique to the show And this is all after saying for YEARS that the sirens had been _Cut_ from the show
@@lizlilliman3644 Zeus is the literal personification of Rule 34... All those have animal creatures are basically him looking at random creatures and going "...Hear me out..."
The music on the piano at the very end of thunder bringer is called Telemachus' Lullaby and it symbolizes how Ody is thinking about his wife and son in that moment which is just heartbreaking and beautiful
In this version, my theory as to why Odysseus told Eurylochus specifically to light up 6 torches for Scylla was so A: it ensures Odysseus's survival but mainly B: He wanted Eurylochus to be one of the men that were eaten since he would probably be one of the people holding a torch considering he was the one lighting them. Main reason I believe it is; Ody just learned that Eurylochus was directly to blame for prolonging the journey home and indirectly to blame for the death of 500+ of his men AND his Mother by opening the wind bag while in sight of Ithaca, where Ody's mom could see the ships on the horizon getting blown away and straight into Poseidon and the Laestygonians. Not to mention Ody was probably already getting sick of the constant doubting and fear sowing from his 2nd in command. Brother-in-law or not that would be the final straw. Obviously it didnt work out that way and Eurylochus either passed off, dropped, or never held onto a torch but thats my theory as to the change
my oh my! one more saga till we're all caught up! If you're still interested in going through the animatics after the fact, I've whipped up a playlist with the whole shabbang (one of every song, then some cool alternatives) called "Epic: the Musical, cherry-picked animatics + alts" Keep on keeping on, have a good day :D
Yours are easily the best reactions I've seen on youtube. You know the source material really well and only focus on the music, giving you the best experience. And you use the opportunity to teach people the context!
For some background that is more clear in the animatics/livestream: In Scylla, when Odysseus tells Eury to light up the torches, he intended Eury to be one of the six that gets sacrificed because Eury confessed to opening the wind bag. Eury is only spared because he hands off the torch to someone else, fueling his anger towards Ody in Mutiny. In Mutiny, the one of the crew (Perimedes?) actually stabbed Ody before he could strike down Eury, and then Eury knocked out Ody and took him to the island.
So I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but Jorge has actually explained his idea for how Siren spells work. Essentially if you fully hear it properly, the spell accesses your memories and that's what lets Sirens tailor their songs to lure people. However, since Ody also had wax in his ears in Jorge's telling, the Siren's song didn't properly grab his memories. Thus stuff like her saying daughter was because she couldn't properly get the memories of Ody's kid. It also plays around with the music, because she gets bad motifs mixed up with happy things and vice-versa. She doesn't understand the proper context of the memories she got. It's also why even tho it's Penelope's motif for Suffering, Penelope's actual instrument is missing. I'd suggest looking up the video Jorge posted about it. Also not so fun fact, when Scylla is eating Ody's men, you can hear them each screaming. Oh, and that sound you thought was the whirlpool swirling? That's Scylla's heads roaring lol. And because you looked confused about what happens to Ody in Mutiny, he gets stabbed and then Eurylochus knocks him out.
Super refreshing for you to immediately realize they were sirens in Suffering! It made it that much better that you could pick part the clues as soon as they came up. Your Odyssey knowledge works so well with these songs~
If you can catch the Wisdom Saga watch party live stream while its still up on Jorge's channel, its definitely worth reacting to for The Wisdom Saga though for your (or our!) amusement, it also includes the prior 6 sagas as well. With some lyrics and official Jorge commissioned animation clips included. The bits for the Wisdom Saga are exceptional, and because there is a time skip and quite a few new characters it's been useful for people. You have enough Odyssey knowledge you likely wouldn't NEED it, but would likely have fun with it still.
A lot of people are recommending the live stream/animatics for the Wisdom Saga, but I think it is pretty coherent with just the audio! An initial listen when you're stuck with nothing but the music is like no other, the way your mind just works to fill in the gaps and really visualize the story. You've done a great job without any visual aid thus far, and the Wisdom Saga shouldn't be different :)
Edit: I realized that yeah you're probably right, I'm sure Lyle would catch on preeeeeetty quickly since he does have prior knowledge of the Odyssey and I think the other creators I'm talking about aren't, or like...not in-depth. Idk, I've seen several people who think it's Ody singing for the first few songs instead of (spoiler spaces ahead) Telemachus. When people who aren't familiar with the Odyssey (or who haven't seen snippets of the various songs to know who's singing in any given one) it can be hard for someone to know what's going on. I mean heck most animatics of Ruthlessness don't show the Giants, who apparently in the original Odyssey do most of the damage to Ody's fleet rather than Poseidon. Jorge however has specified it's a combo of the Laestrygonians' boulders and Poseidon's Water Bending that sinks Ody's fleet. But since most people haven't seen the note that's been included with Ruthlessness during the livestreams, they don't realize it's not just Poseidon ruining the fleet's day.
The electric guitar coming in is Odysseus’ instrument when he has high emotions. Eurylochus’ “instrument” is the crew. Their instruments clashing during the battle and is such great writing, but it also breaks my heart.
Your reactions to Epic are my absolute favorite, you balance so we'll your listening time with your speaking time. I absolutely love you actually explaining the original version of the Odyssey and I am so so happy that you're enjoying these Sagas! Can't wait to hear your thoughts in the Wisdom Saga!
Yeah, I know but I am just excited for song number 4. Don’t want to give away the name the song. So I’m really really hoping it’s going to follow the pattern
I LOVEEEE the little lore snippets and explanations you've been giving throughout this journey, its been genuinely SOO interesting I love it!! Also I love the "Im sorry for stopping so much" then proceeds to get COMPLETELY enamored in Luke Holt's rendition of Zeus hahaha
I love your reactions. It’s great that you can relate the songs back to the original material. I find it very interesting and I enjoy it very much! I can’t wait for you to listen to the new saga. It’s so good
It would be awesome if the Siren was portrayed in the movie (that everyone assumes is coming) as Penelope with glasses, since Jorge revealed that the Siren could only skim the surface of Odysseus’ memories with his ears plugged (this is how she gets the likeness of Penelope’s voice and appearance and also the fact he has a child, but confuses Telemachus for a daughter) and so she ended up playing the motif Mallet of Polites instead of Penelope’s viola since they were both people he held dearly so it got confused, so I think a good represenatioj of that would be to add Polites’ glasses.
I love your reactions. I do heavily recommend for the wisdom saga to watch jorge live stream, the animatics give it a lot of more context. Its kinda necessary to understand whats happening, atleast for the final song "god games". But is just a recomendation 😁.
Thank you for reacting to this. As someone who doesn't know the source material, you pausing to detail what actually happens in Odyssey is really helpful! It's gives me a better lens to understand the musical, especially with Scylla's song. It makes a lot more sense now, and it's more impactful.
You are just about the only react who react to the songs without visual whom I actually enjoy watching! Your knowledge and insights about the source material and your commentary is so on point! Wow! I can’t wait to see you react to the newest saga! 🤩
Its so refreshing seeing a review and reaction from someone who knows the story, but also you tend to catch alot of things other reactors miss, like most people hear "run for your lives!" Instead of the actual lyric, which is row, keep it up! Cant wait for wisdom saga reaction!!!
It has been forever since I have read the Oddessey so it is so nice to hear your perspective as someone who knows it so well! The fan animatics and the livestreams help to add some context to some things too at least for Epic canon. Would love to see what you think of those!
The Horse and The Infant, Zeus: *The blood in your hands is something you won't lose; all you can choose is whose* Thunder Bringer, Zeus: *Someone's gotta die today and you have got the final say; you or your crew*
I don’f want to spam all the comments but since a few people have advised watching the livestream, be advised that halfway through song 4, the livestream got interrupted because YT went full Poseidon on Jay. All at once the entire fandom cried out “CAPTAIN!” … and Jay had to relaunch in a separate stream to finish the saga. (You can find both.)
Its honestly so refreshing to have someone react who knows the story so well. Yours are honestly my favourite! YOU'RE ALMOST CAUGHT UP TOO! I would LOVE to see you react to the animatics version of the wisdom saga -- Jorge's livestream of it. You really do need it for context
To me in Thunder Bringer, Odysseus' "Please don't make me do this! Don't make me do this!" Isn't him begging Zeus to not make the choice. That choice was made from song 1, only strengthened by the events of everything since Ocean Saga. No in my mind it's Odysseus begging Zeus not to make him ADMIT his choice to his crew. Both Odysseus and Zeus, knew the outcome of this when Eurylochus killed the sacred cow. The choice didn't matter, even if it did I think Zeus would have zapped the crew and not Ody. Making Ody admit his choice was just Zeus messing with the sanity of mortals again.
Your reactions are my favorite. I love that you have such detailed knowledge of the source material and can cross compare them, and I love your appreciation for this version
one Detail you'd only see with jorge's stream of the thunder saga is that during scylla the 6 torches we lit and given to the 6 sacrifices with eury meant to be one of them.
As a classicist (I use that term with so much facetious intent, I'm only a sophomore so far lmao), I absolutely love watching/listening to this musical with both "blind" and read-up reactors - you're definitely the latter. Noticing the connections and deviations + different character opinions between fans makes being in this fandom SO DAMN FUN.
20:35 "If you want all the power you must carry all the blame" is a reference to a cut song called City of Ismaris you can still listen to a part of it on youtube
i would be super interested to see him do a reaction to the more popular animatics that go with these songs. I LOVE how he knows the original poems and speaks out about them and would be interested to hear what he thinks about the visuals.
Just as a heads up for the wisdom saga, the first three songs are sung by Telemachus, who's singer intentionally sounds very similar to Odyseuss. Without lyrics a lot of people have made that confusion.
It’s not something you can find out by just listening, but in the official animatronics one of my favorite details is Eurylocus realizing that Odysseus tried to get him killed in Scylla
Beautiful reactions! I recommend giving Different Beasts and Scylla a second listen, focusing to the background music. You can hear the screams of the sirens and men respectfully. You probably did hear it, but every reaction I've seen thus far never mention this, so I want to make sure those details get the respect they deserve
I really enjoyed this reaction, especially from someone who knows the source material. Not to dis any new fans, but the experience listening to this musical is on another level when you are familiar with the odyssey before hand.
I love how much character and heart Mr. Jorge gave them. Eurylochus isn't just some cowardly, disruptive influence on the crew. He's Ody's trusted friend and they clearly mean a lot to each other. They've both trying to reach out but the other isn't in the right place to hear them. The second half of Mutiny is musically and lyrically so close to luck runs out and it just breaks my heart. Eury tried to caution Ody when he was being reckless with disturbing the wind god and failed and now Ody is trying to do the same with the sun god but Eury is just too tired and despondent to care. I remember you saying how much Eurylochus annoys you in the original so I hope you enjoyed this version of Eurylochus more.
If you get a chance, PLEASE watch the animatic version of Scylla from jorge’s official stream, the depiction of the six men being eaten is so gruesome and makes It even more devastating.
🎉🎉🎉 we finally got to what “was” my favorite song of the whole series Thunder Bringer! I say was cause Wisdom sagas last song stole the whole show. So, I’m so excited to catch that reaction. Really wish you had watched the animatics but it’s all good. Just you’ll lose some of the impact without the animatics for the last song of the Wisdom saga but it will still be amazing to watch your reaction to it.
I really enjoy your reactions with the knowledge that you have it makes them so fascinating. Wisdom saga and then you have caught up with us all and onto the waiting for the next saga
I know you usually don't do the visuals when reacting to epic but can you pleaase please react to the live stream for the wisdom saga reaction? It gives so much needed context and also the visuals are brilliant
For the wisdom saga i highly recommend watching with the animatic Jorge used during the livestream!!! Phenomenal work by the respective artists and helps with the final song's progression!! ruclips.net/video/OTo3vhFYjVg/видео.htmlsi=FB-sy0k8smIfjDAO 1:27:13 Been LOVING your reactions please continue to do a fantastic job!!
I just found your channel, and I would like to say that I really appreciate your videos! Your genuine knowledge of the story and insight makes it for a great experience to watch. A lot of other reactors, however good (I really enjoy a majority of them), can be pretty ignorant when it comes to mythology, so it’s refreshing to watch someone who really knows what they’re talking about. Thanks!
Can I just take the time to say how good Odysseus is at multitasking, he maintained perfect pitch, while he couldn't hear a word because of the beeswax, he continued singing while trying to read her lips, and he was also being a sassy son of a gun to the siren version of his wife, that is just a whole different level
i just spend the last 3 hours watching your entire playlist from epic and now i just have one request - could u please do a tierlist at the end of this journey? In every single saga u say oh its a big one oh i love this and now i just NEED to know how u would rank these song and why - is it the lyric? how its representing the story in that song? is it the way the song sounds? The emotions ? Im just so curious 😅😵💫
i highly recommend looking up the watch party for the wisdom saga (the next saga) jorge streamed! It not only goes through the songs but there are a BUNCH of really talented artists that made animatics/animations to go with the songs. its very cool to see people interpretations of the monsters and characters.
No need to apologize for the pauses! As someone who doesn't know the Odyssey but loves this musical, I LOVE hearing the differences and similarities between the two!
If you ever do reactions to the animatics you should react to Gwendy's 'There Are Other Ways'. She references that story of her giving the poison to her true love for his true love. I always loved that she added that reference in. Helped deepen the story for those that didn't know how Scylla got to how she was. (in my opinion) but hope to see more reactions from you!
I love your reactions the most (no hate to the other reactors ofc ❤). There's that background knowledge, actively listening and connecting the dots, and just locked into the music and its genuis. It was so much fun to watch ❤❤❤ looking forward to seeing the wisdom saga reaction!!
After I've realized that the motive behind Eurylochus rage is that Odysseus literally made him light up SIX torches, the EXACT number of people who died, I felt as betrayed as him. Like.. Literally, Odysseus LITERALLY and openly made him sacrifice six men. I would be SO SO mad at him, so disappointed in his place
He is just as bad as Odysseus. He is a hypocrite and a liar. The moment Odysseus follows his advice he gets mad. He says that Ody must take the blame if he wants the power, yet the second he does something wrong he gives the power right back to Odysseus. I hate the fact he opened the bag because he knew what would happen. He was told by Odysseus that the bag had the storm inside. Also even if I'm not talking the og story even here Scylla and killing 6 men was the best option. The other is let everyone die to poseidon and let his wife get raped and his son get killed.
Amazing reaction! I do want to inform you that when I go to your channel and go to the videos tab, this video doesn't pop up with all your other videos. I've been checking periodically throughout the day and haven't seen it pop up or change. Thoughg id give you a heads up since it seems odd. It only pops up in the EPIC playlist!
Eurylochus was so ready to leave their men with Circe, but he totally explodes here. Kinda hypocritical. Plus this is their KING, not just captain or general.
In wisdom saga hope you react with the animatics in his Livestream you will love it for more context. Your reaction here are so on point comparing to the original. if someone will ask me which I prefer, epic the musical make this more emotional for this part and I really love it.
It's probably already recorded, but If you react to the wisdom saga, consider react to the Livestream. There is so much more information in the wisdom saga that are conveyed through the visuals on the stream, I'm sure you'll enjoy it much much more. Regardless, I like your content and reactions. See you on the next one

You can hear the men screaming in the background of scylla! Gives me the chills every time
Your reactions are my favorite.
A song of past romance; Suffering
The sacrifice of man; Scylla
Portrayals of betrayal; Mutiny
A brother's final stand; Thunderbringer
If you watch any animatic for Epic the Musical, the Scylla animatic made by Gigi is HIGH up there.
I really enjoyed this reaction, especially from someone who knows the source material. Not to dis any new fans, but the experience listening to this musical is on another level when you are familiar with the odyssey before hand.
Cant wait to see your wisdom saga reaction!
I am so excited for you to cover the Wisdom Saga.
Odysseus said in 'Just a man' that he would trade the world to see his son and wife, and he did.
AAAH We're almost caught up! this reaction has been amazing! can't wait for the future ones
I know you usually don't do the visuals when reacting to epic but can you pleaase please react to the live stream for the wisdom saga reaction? It gives so much needed context and also the visuals are brilliant
i totally recommend watching the livestream on Jorges channel for the remaining songs that just released bc it might get a bit confusing
I love your reactions to this musical so much because you always give input of your background knowledge~ it’s very interesting
Here we have Posiren, Sirilla/Scyren and flashy Hades 🙏
I love how the “______ hades” meme from CF Reactions channel has made it to other reactions of epic🤣🤣🤣🤣
For the wisdom saga i highly recommend watching with the animatic Jorge used during the livestream!!! Phenomenal work by the respective artists and helps with the final song's progression!!

Been LOVING your reactions please continue to do a fantastic job!!
Thank you! I love love love your insight! And you bring unique prospectives and opinions on these beautiful songs!
Thanks!
One more saga till you’re caught up!!! And it HURTS!!!
Yay !
I really enjoy your reactions and the comparison you do with the original story of the Odyssey
Thank you
Can I just take the time to say how good Odysseus is at multitasking, he maintained perfect pitch, while he couldn't hear a word because of the beeswax, he continued singing while trying to read her lips, and he was also being a sassy son of a gun to the siren version of his wife, that is just a whole different level
I loved all the pauses, each time you'd pause then share the original story and contrasting it. I found each pause an enjoy explanation incoming.
Thunderbringer is my favorite song from the musical
i just spend the last 3 hours watching your entire playlist from epic and now i just have one request - could u please do a tierlist at the end of this journey? In every single saga u say oh its a big one oh i love this and now i just NEED to know how u would rank these song and why - is it the lyric? how its representing the story in that song? is it the way the song sounds? The emotions ?
Im just so curious 😅😵💫
i highly recommend looking up the watch party for the wisdom saga (the next saga) jorge streamed! It not only goes through the songs but there are a BUNCH of really talented artists that made animatics/animations to go with the songs. its very cool to see people interpretations of the monsters and characters.
would love to see you react to some of the animatics for these! its really cool seeing how everyone interprets the songs and scenes differently
(in my opinion) but hope to see more reactions from you!
and there is no danger motif in Scylla's music cause Ody knows hes safe. Scylla goes after the torches, so her toll was paid
I love your reactions the most (no hate to the other reactors ofc ❤). There's that background knowledge, actively listening and connecting the dots, and just locked into the music and its genuis. It was so much fun to watch ❤❤❤ looking forward to seeing the wisdom saga reaction!!
Another fantastic reaction. Next up is the best one.
Yes another one of my fave sagas
Thanks! and like i said in first comment make sure to listen/watch the livestream for wisdom so you get the true finale for that saga
Whe zues sings about pride being a damsel and how he says feminine pronouns makes me think about Penelope. Especially about "her kingdom"
I can't for your reaction to the Wisdom saga 🙂
Here's my supporting comment! 🥰
I need Wisdom Saga. I NEEEEEEEDDDDD ITTTTT
It doesn't come out til Friday. It's unlisted at the moment.
@@PatrolNation Oh! Okay, that's good! I was worried for a second that RUclips wasn't pushing the video out!
Eurylochus was so ready to leave their men with Circe, but he totally explodes here. Kinda hypocritical. Plus this is their KING, not just captain or general.
In wisdom saga hope you react with the animatics in his Livestream you will love it for more context. Your reaction here are so on point comparing to the original. if someone will ask me which I prefer, epic the musical make this more emotional for this part and I really love it.
fun fact, there are exactly 6 screams audible under scylla's verse :)
I really hope you start to react to some animatics! Especially mutiny!
Its even crazier if you watch the animatics of these songs 😅
Okay, this video is great, but on another note we need the wisdom saga.As soon as possible please, i'm begging you
Great Video !
so in scylla they changed it a bit and made scylla and chryb however you spell it in completely different places
“Yeah nah” hehe
So sad I have to wait another week to see your wisdom saga reaction…
Ody's crew, 13 years proving just how LOW the bar of 'wisest Greek' is
22:01 they never think to fish for food🫠
You think Poseidon would let them catch fish?
It's probably already recorded, but If you react to the wisdom saga, consider react to the Livestream. There is so much more information in the wisdom saga that are conveyed through the visuals on the stream, I'm sure you'll enjoy it much much more. Regardless, I like your content and reactions. See you on the next one
