people need to remember that Neal has professional animator background, so there animatics will look different then other animatics ^^'
All the animatics look different, I don’t think they should be measured differently since they are all independently done.
wait she has (edit cause i Miss gender)
They're the only one that shows Ares and Athena actually caring about each other and respecting each other both as gods of war and siblings throughout the animatic which is why I like it the most haha.
I agree I don't like comparing animators, they're all unique, spend dozens of hours working hard and refining their craft, they have the generosity to share their art on a platform where we can enjoy it for free, the least we can do is show appreciation and not diminish their work. Edit: I don't want to sound aggressive, it is totally ok to have favourite but for example going into an animation's comment session to say another one is your favourite, or that they are better than other animatics you've seen isn't respectful in my opinion
@@cid_of_krebs thanks for correct me. I fixed it. And i didnt mean it as a i like they stuff better than the others even though their design for Zeus is my favorite.. and that i am shock that someone who use to be pro would make animatic for Epic
In Neal Version, the Olympians act LIKE A FAMILY
Yes, they have conflicts, they are not always happy with each other, but they are a family.
They love each other deep down, and Athena's hug begging her dad hits so hard because in the end she is a daughter and her father, No gods, just a family
Even Hephaestus pouting like a child that his cool robot got destroyed
its super emotional. BC Ares and Athena are brother sister god/goddess of war. SO when he said the whole "is she dead" it was like.. Did i just lose my sister. and then at the end, Zeus' pride got to him, and he realized he hurt his favorite child and messed up by letting his anger out.
@@PupGamer93 yeees
@@karinahVT OWW YES
I imagine that the meetings between Athena and Poseidon must be awkward, specially after the whole Athens competition.
I love Neal Illustrator's version of "God Games" so much. As for Hera's "duplicates", I'm assuming it might be her nymphs, because she has a shit ton of followers as the queen of the gods. I also love the version of Athena ending this whole fight in a hug, because she is canonically Zeus' favorite daughter (I also loved the throw-back to Zeus holding baby!Athena in that statue at the beginning and him holding Athena in his arms at the end).
@@nambnb he brought her into this world and he took her out of it.
I heard someone say that her what the name is, is her warrior I guess?
I heard somewhere in Neal's comments that the many hands or the "Hera clone jutsu" was like her peacock warriors since Hera's animal symbol is the Peacock.
With Hera..... _Talk about having HAND-MAIDENS_ xD
I thought more along the lines of the Muses, considering her lyrics: "So Many Heroes, So Many Tales! Give me one good reason why yours should prevail!"
42:50 Athena is Zeus' favorite kid so seeing the statue of him holding her as a baby in the throne room, even if hidden behind his massive ego statues, shows he cares about her. Neal made Athena's hair match his, even smiled like he did at 42:11. They took a bit longer to polish the animatic and it was well worth the wait. This animatic feels like Jorge's idea of a boss rush and I am absolutely here for it.
Btw Vengence saga comes out Halloween Woooo!!!!
Watch party later today
Athena was never a baby. She was born from the head of her father.
@ismael9619 She was a baby in this video
My favorite detail is that out of all of Zeus's children Athena looks the most like him. Same hair, same smile, and by the end of it the same yellow left eye and facial scar. It exemplifies the fact that Zeus is Athena's sole parent and how despite their differences they mirror each other.
Fun fact! Aphrodite was once a war goddess, and I think Neal was kind of making a nod to that by having Aphrodite empower Ares' broken sword. Aside from that, one of the most common reasons why people devolve into mindless violence is because of love; hence, violence caused by/empowered by love being a deadly and powerful thing.
I also loved how Neal showed how all of the gods in God Games are actually part of a real *family*. Ares, Apollo, and Hephaestus are all Athena's siblings. Aphrodite is her sister-in-law. Hera is her step-mother. Zeus is her father, and she is his most favorite child. I just... I love how there are both little and big tells that display those relationships. And the way that Ares called out so *desperately* when she was fighting Zeus? They may fight and get on each others' nerves, as most siblings do, but you can see just *how much* Ares truly loves his sister with Neal's animation. It is chef's kiss.
I JUST NOTICED THAT ZEUS GOT NEW SCARS TOO WHERE ATHENA HIT HIS TITAN FORM!! NEAL IS SO GOOD!!💙💙
I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THAT!!! Defiantly shows Athena was holding her own in this version (which makes the ending more impactful since she very well could have won instead of asking).
@@Airier I advise you to see Tatania3070's God games. She deserve to be see if you love mythology
@@Airier I love Athena grinning large when fighting Zeus that Neal does too. She is her Father's daughter.
I wasn't crying you were
@@zannabianca6112 Who is this you are talking about because I have tried to find them and I am stumped.
People forget that Athena is canonically a daddy’s girl and Zeus favorite child.
42:25 This may confuse some but from what I can tell at this moment Athena is no longer pleading with the king of the gods but her dad.
STOP IM GONNA SOB
"Daddy, can I go pway wit my fwiend?"😂
Ares in Ancient Greece was mostly the God of the common soldier than how he is represented as sheer blooshed nowadays. Caring about others and wanting to protect those dear to him are very in character for him. He is sickened by Odysseus not trying to protect his man instead of sacrificing them because Ancient Greeks had a very strong belief in the bonds formed in the battlefield.
Which is interesting, he was not in high esteam Athena was way prefered, especially amoungst tue gods, no one likes him but he is the only god who respects his daughters and is shown protectiv of them, a very much not greek value
I think Neal played here more on a theory that Gods cannot die - that's why they were able to go so ham on each other during fight scenes, Athena struck Ares and Aphrodite directly and they were just fine. I hope it's more cannot than we think cos Imma need to have a word with mister Jalapeno if Athena is dead dead
I'm assuming she's alive because Calypso said goddesses can't die in the song right before God Games
@@Airier And Ares saying "is she dead?" kinda feels like lampshading to me
Im hoping he's trolling us but Jorge had a short of him saying Athena's dead in "This is my impression of Odysseus in Epic: the Vengence Saga". From Troy(singer for Hermes) he said that Teagan Earley(singer for Athena) had finished her recordings.
TLDR im hoping Calypso is right.
@@shatteredreality_513 I think Zeus is in a different class from the other gods. He can actually harm/ kill them where may not be so much so for each other or mortal vs god.
There is some information to be known. In the old story, Zeus beat her into a coma *before* the war, which was later put in.
Hera is actually crying after Zeus's initial strike to Athena. (in tears)
YES, I HAVE BEEN LOOKING IF SOMEONE ELSE ALSO HAS NOTICED IT😭😭
I just saw that
I still don’t know why she is 😭
And she hates her . . . Athena is her absolut anti thesis

Yeah Neil's work is great. Being, I think, the only one to touch on the familial aspect of the Greek gods. Athena not pleading to the god Zeus, the King of Olympus, but to her dad. To see why the life of this mortal is important to her and she needs his help.
I don't know where I read this but Zeus ate Athena's mother while she was pregnant and then Athena bursts out of his head after clearing countless obstacles through her wisdom. So Zeus is kinda like her mother too since he carried her for like months and gave birth to her instead of her mom 😭😂
I love how, in both versions of God Games, Athena's clutching her head when screaming at Ares after her breaks through her stopping time.
Because it isn't actually stopping time, it's just speeding her own thoughts up so fast that it appears to slow down time. So when he does that, he's essentially giving her a Godly Migraine. Insane detail. I love it so much.
One thing that people don't comment on a lot and I think Neal did perfectly id that Ares and Athena are siblings and they seem to act like it here with the constant fighting and everything is a competition however they truly care for each other and have each other's back
As a big daddy’ s girl, Neal’s ending had me in tears. It’s so good! The pleading of a daughter to her father who loves her. ❤
AniFlamma's and Neal's were the best God Games Animatic for me.
Neal's truly shows zeus and his favorite child
A desperate daughter pleading to her father on behalf of a friend
Does anyone notice how Hera's fighters had the baggy disco pants on
Yes! The belts with the round, shiny plates, the leotards ending with bell-bottom fringed/frilled pants, it was all SO disco.
That head dress is an African crown style
Thanks. I knew i saw it before somewhere. 😁👍
IM SO GLAD SOMEONE COMMENTED THIS!! First time I saw that animatic I was so happy that she was wearing such culture
ancient Egyptian pacifically
38:53 The reason is because it's a reference to an Elden Ring boss Eternal Consort Radahn, who's second phase has the god Miquella hanging onto his neck
Or you know the togoro brothers from yu yu hakasho they did it first
there's also a dark souls 3 boss that's similar.
@@cobraglatiator The princes.

I was thinking more on Ferra/Torr from Mortal Kombat X
God Games gets even better when you think about it in context of the full saga. In GG; Athena starts out praying to her god-king, but ends with asking her dad. In the whole saga: Odysseus starts out with his goddess, and ends with his friend. Athena and Odysseus are constantly through the same thematic journey; its what the entire musical puts at center stage, and Neal makes it the corner stone of their art.
I love for Apollo you see the notes from his solo surrounding him while he sings....
And the statues in the hall fore shadowing the final shot with Zeus holding Athena!
Neal has incredible fight scenes and the attention to details are amazing 🤩
It is not only about the (stellar) animation by Neal though. The way Neal understands using every detail from the song and mythology to their advantage to tell the story is just amazing. Even when you just listen to God Games Apollo's and Hephaestus' parts seem rushed, but the way Neal tells story, fixes the pacing of the whole song. God games also does not feel like many little separate event with this animation but as a whole. The gods seem like family finally. Of course, the illustration and animation are absolutely insane, but the storytelling by utilizing even the smallest details make this the superior god games animatic for me.
I kinda like the fact that Aphrodite creates the blade for Ares's sword. It's almost like a reference to the savage nature of war that rises from the love of the kill or battle.
...Or possibly referring to Odysseus's narrative where he's left a trail of bodies behind in the wake of returning to his wife, who he loves truly, madly, and deeply.
43:13 I'm glad you cried, because I did too, and still do whenever I watch it, and believe me, I watch it daily. Also, in case you didn't catch it, Zeus got a scar on his wrist and on his left eye, were Athena struck him while in God Mode. Also, Neal has a background as a professional animator and it SHOWS, they're here to flex on all of us.
This is my absolute favorite take, because they are portrayed as a family, dysfunctional, but still a family. Athena was Zeus' favorite, among all the statues of himself, he has one of himself holding Athena, that was a huge tell. This song became better because of Neal in my opinion, it hits waaaaaaaaay harder to me now.
I love torturing myself emotionally by watching it every day and crying EVERY TIME!!!
The part of "Love in Paradise" when it focuses on Odysseus and how broken he looks when he says "I know"... chills. Just a short time before that, his brother-in-law/best friend admitted that the reason it has taken them so long to get home is that he opened the bags of winds, which resulted in the destruction of the fleet. Next he had to make the choice of sacrifice 6 members of his crew to Scylla or get them all killed by Charybdis. Then his crew engaged in a mutiny and disowned him as a leader in favor of killing one of Helios's cows, but the moment they got in trouble with Zeus they came clamoring back to him for help and guidance, calling him "Captain" once again. Keep your friends close and enemies closer indeed.
Hera crying against the pillar in the background is heartbreaking
Especially given she and Athena cant stand eachother
39:43 I'm loving the whole peacock motif Neal has going on right here in the form of hands instead of feathers
The Epic fans being well fed with all of the new animatics, Hermes and Jay S2 (A mini shorts series made for the funny), _the teaser,_ AND THE VENGEANCE SAGA WATCH PARTY TODAY
I'm losing my mind with how much we are given
I don't know if I misinterpreted the Duvetbox love in Paradise, but I thought the spirits were trying to pull him away from the ledge.
24:25 I love how in this moment the screen is shaking meaning that he is starting to lose his mind and wanting to call for his friend Athena
The statue of Zues holding Athena makes a lot of sense when you realize that Athena is Zues's favorite child.
30:35 the head dress is used in Black Panther as the queen’s (his mother’s) head dress. Apparently it’s a (according to google) “Zulu-inspired flared hat, called an Isicola, which is a South African/Zulu married woman hat.”
I just l LOVE the fact that athena in her owl form attacked Zeus's big form in the heart. Being his favorite, she knew he has a soft spot for her in his heart so she attacked him at his weak spot ahhhhh 🥹🥹
Well, as much of a softspot as an egomaniac as Zeus is capable of
@@SingingSealRiana true true
neal will forever be my favorite animator, their art is just gorgeous and they do so good putting things like this together, They did thunder bringer AND ruthlessness...just amazing.
Neal's is definitely one of my favorites. Not just because the animation in itself is great, but the feelings, from Ares, to Zeus, is so much more emotional than others, and i feel you, it absolutely wiped me out too when i saw it
I really like Zeus’ expression because Athena is his favorite. Also, Athena wants to dethrone Zeus so her going head to head with him makes sense.
She does not want to‚ but she is fated to
@ mb, I heard/ read she ‘wants to’ not ‘fated to’. Ty for the correction. :))
@@benikujaku4567 Not really, it was supposed to be destroyed by Athena's TWIN BROTHER, who was never born, he was trapped inside Zeus with Metis
GODS I LOVE NEAL'S VERSION OF GOD GAMES SO MUCH
Also to note: Hera's army look like a tail because (in case you don't know) Hera's animal is the Peacock! And same with Zeus and his final form, his animal is the Eagle
Now we gotta buckle up for Vengeance saga tonight
"There's a lot of shirtless guys here" In the Odyssey, the crew has gone through so much that the storms and battles literally shreds their clothes, heck, Odysseus ends up in the island of Calypso barely dressed and in the island of the Faescians he washes up naked
The greeks usually did not wear much, and even if there where a tujic they are prone to flach eachother no shirt is the last of their problems😅
@SingingSealRiana In the Odyssey specifically, they start off with their armors and slowly as the time goes by, they lose everything, until it's nakey Ody
in 37:12 his head is like kind of broken cus it symbolizes a volcano since Hephaestus is also the god of volcanos. (or at least how I interpreted it.) And when Athena offers her hand to help Ares it's like because they're still siblings after all. (ALSO the transition at 40:34 from Athena to Zeus is so cool because it's true they have the same hair so like that was an amazing way to put it.)
Hephaestus isn't in greek myth, but Vulcan is in Roman myth, IIRC, Hephaestus is just god of the forge i think, or maybe he does have something to do with volcanos... but i know in Roman myth Vulcanus is also a god of fire. which H isn't.
@@cobraglatiator I don't quite understand what you're saying but to clear it up Hephaestus and Vulcan are the same person just in different pantheons. Hephaestus being the greek god and Vulcan the roman one. Both are gods of fire, volcanoes, forges, and blacksmithing. (Hope this helped
@@Goldencat_WCUE they were syncretized yes, but there exist some small differences even in syncretization between roman and greek gods. from what i remember, and remember reading, Vulcan is a fire god, Hephaestus isn't. could be wrong but that's what i've read.
i remember hephaestus being god of the forge in greek myth, just didn't remember if he was a god of volcanoes also, but given he's supposed to have his forge in one, you'd think he would be, wouldn't you?
i knew i was kinda rambly and "stream of conciousness" or w/e in my previous @ but didn't think i was that confusing. lol
I love Neal's take on Ares breaking into Athena's realm by literally shattering the walls as if he's had to break in or out of that realm many times
I am not joking when i say i immediately burst into tears at athena hugging zues. All this hype and cool fights and then suddenly boom CRY CRY C R Y
I will maintain that Duvetbox has put out the absolute best versions of these songs to date, especially with their depiction of all the gods. Though that Scylla vid was brutally incredible!
38:00 ITS THE PROMISED CONSORT RADAHN FIGHT!! THATS WHY YOU ARE THINKING OF A SOULS BOSS!!! my absolute favorite part of the animatic!!
Neal’s is one of the only ones I can recall who leans into the boss rush aspect. I want the musical animated just for a 10 minute fight scene (minimum) dedicated to each god. Or a video game with different kinds of game genres for each battle.
By far the best animation for God Games.
7:55 Rage and Disgust? I see devestation.
I believe Heras Headpiece was an Afrikan Crown?
I wanna see Jeorgé react to all these animatics.
After seeing Neal Illustrator’s take on god games, I like to believe that the gods will just start absolutely beating eachother’s asses at random times but they’re all cool with it.
And if you check 35:31 the cloud consorts also shows a man there
I know it is long.
33:34 when he smiles I think back to no longer you when the prophet says 'I see a man who gets to make it home alive and it's no longer u' he would then have the idea of the possibility that it is one of his fellow men and with what happens now he would be the only man in a sense left giving him the certainty that he would make it home. Just my interpretation
36:45 for this part he is actually launching the 1 2 1 chords at Athena in which I love
Neal’s animation makes me think of a spanish cover of god games where in the beginning Athena says “Padre mío” (My father) but in the ending she goes “Suéltalo, Papá” (Let him go,Dad)
I haven't seen this be mentioned, when Hera summons a bunch of hands that disperse into what I assume are nymphs, the hands are in the shape of a peacocks tail feathers which is Hera's sacred bird and I just think it's a cool detail that either hasn't been noticed or hasn't been pointed out (Talking about Neal the illustrators take on God Games here 39:40 )
Right in the feels at the end~ oh maaaaan i just cried!
Love the fact that Neal Illustrator's version of Aphrodite and Ares is like the boss fight you do in Elden Ring between Miquella and Radahn with Aphrodite hanging off Ares the same was Miquella does coaxing him on
42:41 definetly wasn’t expected but just like I LOVE IT PROVE ME WRONG.
Hera's symbol is the peacock. omg loved that sooooo much!
I just noticed hera on the background crying
Airier! Airier!!!! Epic the musical released the vengeance saga!!! Although I'm not going to spoil it but it's the best and most awesome and satisfying saga yet!!!!. Trust me it's epic!!!.
The Ares design with Aphrodite on the shoulder gives me Consort Radhan vibes ngl. 38:24
I love that I wasn't the only one to notice!
nice of incorporating the peacock element for Hera
Hera's sacred animal is a Peacock, so her clones form out like the tail of a peacock. Its an interesting thing I noticed.
The fact that the last one made you cry
Mythologically speaking Calypso...has about 5 different origins, this is Mythology after all...but the one Homer seems to use is Calypso being the Daughter of Atlas who sided with the Titans in Zeus's Rebellion, making her more Titaness than Olympian (whether or not that disqualifies her as a Goddess is between you and my High School Mythology Teacher, but that's another tangent entirely). Anyway, as a Titaness, she was Exiled following Zeus letting out the Hecatonceres, ending up imprisoned on the Island with no one else on the island and no one able to get to the island.
So, she is indeed very much stuck on the Island and Odysseus is literally the first person she has seen in Millennia.
Oh please, if you have the capacity to watch one more God Games animatic, Noir. Hyacinth does an amazing job, it really creates an interesting family dynamic between the gods
I like the final one the most for many reasons but I like that they draw on the fact that Athena is Zeus’ favorite child.
7:17
Omg this is one of my favorite Scylla animatics ever! Love this
I’m still laughing at Hera clone no jutsu
A NEW SAGA RELEASED
I knew if I waited you would get to the NI animation. Also, I fear for the many panic attacks this epic has given you.
If there was ever an anime/manga made from epic I would love Neal and Gigi to team up and do the art work. I love them so much!
38:47 'Ares and aphrodite is giving me major dark souls vibes'
It gives heavy vibes of like Radahn consort of Miquella, from the elden ring DLC
38:53

Alright, that's it, Neal's take on God Games is superior, the end.
I really love Neal’s work, so much good animations ! What about reacting to more of this channel’s videos ??
This is my most absolute favorite version of Scylla I’ve seen
Ximena Natzel made an amazing love in paradise
Late to the party, but as far as animations for God Games go, I'm absolutely enamored by the animatic of the Aphrodite/Ares fight scene by SixofClovers Animation! It's similarly unique in its few key elements and just- so good. I can only recommend checking it out!!
ur so real for crying with neals animation
Was not expecting to. It wasn't even the third time I'd seen someone else's take on that song. 😅
@@Airier neals animation AND interpretation of songs its sooo diferent from others, valid asf to cry
i like the hair change cause as they recorded stuff Jorge let his hair grow out a bit and Barbra (Calypso's Singer) actually ended up cutting her hair short as well i wonder if thats one reason Britt refrenced it their Love in Paradise
Everyone here is talking about Neal so there's not really anything there for me to add, so i want to point out something in Duvet's Love in Paradise animatic that some people noticed on that video and commented in the comment section there:
during the cliff scene, with the ghosts of Ody's ast pushing him towards the ledge, the positioning of his mother's hands and body almost make it seem like she's actually trying to pull him away instead of push him forward. Idk if that was the intention, but if it was, it makes it even more heartbreaking, because of course a mother wouldn't want her son to die, even if she's waiting to see him again (even in death).
Hera's head dress was a peacock feathered helm as that was her divine animal
Honestly i'm so ready for the fandom to make more animatics for the next saga that's in a few hours
Not Scylla pulling the monster from the spongebob movie trick XD
Bro ares and Aphrodite in Neal the Illustrator’s animatic are Miquella and Consort Radahn
You know… the Vengeance Saga is airing tonight at 9:30pm. You’re gonna have a LOT more heartbreak when listening to I’m not sorry for Loving You. 😏
😮😨
lol, you have no idea what awaits you at the end of 600 strikes
I came to watch this video for Neal Illustrator because I am mad for their God Games, but that Scylla by VirusAp was amazing!!!
The Vengeance Saga is out now
Not the livestream though, which I’m assuming Airier will do like last time assuming it is also kept up.
I also think it's because Ares' closest blood sister (beside Eris) along with closest in both disposition and purpose is Athena. He knows that good warfare comes with great war minds
38:53 that's not Ares. That's Radahn, Consort of Miquella in the Elden Ring DLC!
It would be a niche detail, but I'm waiting for someone to do a God Games ending with Athena doing the whole 'one hand on his knee, one on his chin' pose that's stated in The Iliad as the gesture of supplication/pleading.
This spear gives my huge undertale undyne vibes 39:28
