I think that the canon interpretation of the beginning of 600 Strike is that Odysseus comes so close to death that he's not just haunted by the memories of the spirits anymore, but he's actually about to enter the underworld. But because he just manages to avoid death he comes back imbued with the strength of all of those souls, so he literally hits Poseidon with the strength of 600 men.

@Dracon350 I'm drawing a distinction between the animatic Matthew watched in this video which portrayed the voices as flashbacks, and the livestream visuals which are confirmed canon and depicts the shades preparing to drag Ody into Hades. I suppose that is technically the end of GITW, but it does immediately lead into 600.

(First off, highly encourage you to check out the livestream. Won’t say anything from that in case you want to check it out. They went crazy). Now,
The little Winion in Dangerous is voiced by Jorge’s sister.
The Different Beast theme starts playing when Odysseus tells Poseidon to call off the storm, because he’s now the monster (a canon visual is Odysseus’ red glowing eyes meaning he turned into the Monster).
“Maybe you could learn to forgive” is sung with the notes of “Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves.”

It bears mentioning that humans actually COULD contest the gods in greek mythology. During the Illiad (story of the trojan war) Diomedes saw Aphrodite whisking wounded trojans to safety behind Troy's walls, and shoots her with an arrow to make her back off. Similarly he also shoots Ares, the freaking god of war. Theres also the tale of Sisyphus, where Sisyphus convinces his wife to not perform a proper burial for him and leverages that to convince Hades to give him another day to live so he can convince his wife to bury him properly. At which point Sisyphus refuses to return to the underworld and sneaks up on Thanatos when he comes to take Sisyphus back. Beats up a god and stuffs him into a bag. Or Arachne, who in some stories was a weaver so incredibly talented that she beat one of the gods in a competition and was then turned into a spider monster for the crime of surpassing a god. Basically, there is precedent for individual people overcoming gods.

Calypso sided with the titans in the war against the gods. When the gods won, Zeus trapped her on her island with absolutely no one. She’s SUPER LONELY.
When Zeus kills all of his remaining crew in thunder bringer, it’s supposed to be on his ship, which gets destroyed. He washes Ody onto Calypso’s island since he controls who comes and goes from there. Calypso initially thinks it’s an act of rare benevolence from Zeus toward her, but in reality it’s a punishment for Ody because his #1 character trait is “wife guy”. Zeus wants him to either get SA’ed by Calypso or to cheat on his wife when he eventually gets lonely enough.
Neither he nor Calypso can leave of their own volition. Hermes goes to get Ody because he’s the messenger god sending a message for Zeus. Also, he’s picking up his great grandson.
Either way, Calypso is super manipulative and creepy in her “love”(read: obsession) for Ody. Ody cares for her because it’s been 7 years and hating someone for that long would drive him crazy when he thinks it will be for the rest of his life.

Hmm, fair, but Calypso as a character is one of my favorites because it's such an interesting moral quandary. What she did was indeed objectively wrong, however, consider: she's been trapped there alone since she was a little kid (at least according to Epic, original myth differs slightly), she's had little to no human interaction, no role models, no chance to actually become an adult, and her island provides everything she needs to survive in surplus, so it's not even like she has the challenges of survival to help her mature. Essentially, despite being well over a hundred years old, she's just a kid, and a neglected one at that. Trapped in a place that never changes with no one to talk to, who could just give up the only person theyve really known, with the knowledge that once theyre gone, you're alone again and you dont know for how long?

He’s showing signs of anger and distress which in Jorge’s words are what Ares’ quick thought causes so yeah I think that Odysseus was blessed by Ares cause Ares just can’t wait to see Odysseus fight the suitors lmao
3 : Just giving my own views on what’s happening with Poseidon I think he’s too stunned seeing Odysseus fight back to do anything at first and then he’s just too wounded and weak to act when Odysseus tortures him. Also to me Poseidon is that person who blames you for things that they do too so he blames Odysseus for being a monster here but he is one too and he also told him to be one
4 : For Calypso she did imprison him I think because If it wasn’t her why would Hermes need to talk to her to let Odysseus go ? They don’t owe her anything Hermes could’ve just told Odysseus that he could go and Odysseus would’ve said his goodbyes to Calypso if he wanted to. I also think that what she’s doing is definitely manipulation, she’s completely in the wrong although I do understand why she acts that way, she’s still not a good person no matter how you put it. Now we can all agree that her VA, Wangui has a magnificent voice which does make it hard to hate Calypso lmao

    Why Ody could hurt Poseidon:::::
Poseidon has, at least in Epic the Musical, only been able to use his godly powers IN the water. In the livestream animatic and in this one, Poseidon is on land, and also without a trident.
The trident is a godly weapon, so it can hurt Poseidon. Poseidon could, in theory, wait him out. However, a fan theory I personally enjoy shares that because Gods don’t get hurt often (via mortals) - that when they do - they’re big babies about it.

I love your Epic videos! They're so genuine and hilarious. I wanted to say Not Sorry For Loving You can be interpreted two different ways: one, it can be viewed through the lens of the Odyssey, where Calypso was holding him hostiage, or it can be viewed as Calypso's unrequited feelings for Odysseus, an example of this being, "I'm angry, and tired and restless, and sad; I'm stuck in the moments I swore that we had."

    • @Mary_Studios
      @Mary_Studios 3 дня назад +1

The second half really dose feel like it's about Calypso's unrequited feelings espesually the part of "I hate that I feel in love with you, how am I supposed to get over you" while the first is half feels like it is about Calypso holding him hostage.

That is why Athena went to Zeus to ask for odyssey’s freedom rather then just go to calypso like “let him leave or else” because otherwise she could have avoided the whole gods games debacle.

Yeah so the gods in Greek mythology aren’t Omni-powerful, particularly strong mortals (although only Demi-gods except for a few exceptions) are capable of fighting back and even beating them.
Normally Odysseus isn’t capable of this on his own but combining his power with that of the storm he’s able to, as Hermes said “enhance his state”, to a semi-divine level. That also why we hear the backing vocals of the crew, normally only immortals can summon backing vocals out of thin air. But interestingly enough the kind of stuttering and single line-essness of the backing vocals does suggest that it’s only temporary and not a permanent enhancement.
This is just speculation from me but I’m 99% sure that the storm isn’t a creation of Poseidon’s that’s Aeolus’s domain. And that’s why he can’t stop odyssey from using it to his advantage, he’s using Aeolus’s storm against him. But he is the one that requested the storm from
Aeolus so he’s the only one that can call it off. Just my theory.

from what i understand calypso was a prisoner on the island for i believe backing/supporting her father who i think was a titan. so oddy was more a cellmate than a captive of calypso. but the balance of power with her being a god/divine and being isolated made her uncomfortably clingy

Yes, Calypso is also a prisoner on the island. She is a minor goddess and the daughter of the Titan, Atas. There was a war between the Gods and Titans and she sided with her father, and afterwards, this was her punishment.
Basically isolated forever on that island. So when Ody showed up, she was immediately infatuated. I think Zues also purposely placed him on the island to trap him. A monkey paw from him, choosing to save himself over his men.

Another thing to remember is that the Greek gods aren't omnipotent; they're as flawed as people and their stories, the myths, exists to teach mortals a lesson. The myths aren't actual representation of what the gods were like.
And more importantly, the gods aren't all knowing (it's why the gods can't just find people immediately all the time) nor are they undefeatable. They can't unalive because last I checked, you can't kill the actual ocean (Poseidon as he's the personification of the ocean) or lightning or even wisdom.
All the gods are personification of different things, physical things as well as just basic human emotions. Things we can't ever kill. But if you're clever enough, you can outsmart them. Not recommended though, the gods don't like to be disrespected. 😂

my interpretation of why he was able to beat posidon, is he was just using the extreme wind force of the wind bag, also gods dont relly have powers they have authorities, theres also the fact that some gods powers are fully to do with their weapons, like zeus, his lighting was forged, so its not that far off to say that in that weakened state they would be unable to call on their authorities.

For 600 strike i like to imagine that Poseidon is seeing if his lesson 'ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves' stuck and with the trident the last thing Odysseus said was ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves. Seemed more likely to me, to just see if the lesson stuck and see if Odysseus has changed or something. Because i feel like poseidon, a god, would be able to win if he really tried.

    • @recklesshero0136

I agree with you because this wouldn't have made any sense if Poseidon lost to Odysseus like that. His whole entire power is based on the ocean/water and he could have just easily escaped by calling off the storm. Making Odysseus fall into the water, then proceed with drowning him. Also in trying to fight Poseidon who can literally flood his home, killing everyone that he tried so hard to get back to as punishment for not listening to him.

I rather see it as poseidons secret weakness being people who just keep complaining
-he was only pist that ody didn't end his sun, because when the cyclops wasn't attackt, or if he was dead, then poseidin wouldn't have known about it
but sinds ody left him alive, it means he went and cried about being blinded to his dad, wich poseidin hates
-then, ody was stabbing him for probably like 2 days straight or so, while continiously complaining about how he was doing exactly like poseidon said he should, and about all his friends poseidon killed
and i think poseidon had enough of the complaining and just wanted it to end

When the olympian Gods took over, all of the Titans were ..... enslaved. Atlas has to carry the Sky on his back and Calypso was exiled to an Island, alone.

from watching 500 strikes, there are somethings that I notice or at least have a guess so here we go :
    1) People have this mistaken idea that gods in greek is invincible to mortals but the truth is they are not. There are several stories about gods and goddesses being hurt by mortals, for example diomedes stab aphrodite, heracles beating ares, dionysus fighting in the giant war while being a demigod. So while ody fighting poseidon never actually happened in the myth, the idea of ody beating poseidon by using the wind and stealing his weapon to hurt him is not unimaginable
    2) Poseidon cannot wait out ody's torture simply because gods do not actually have tolerance for pain. Because they rarely got hurt, they feel pain even more, I mean just read the myth when zeus turned poseidon and apollo into mortal and you can see they neither have tolerance for pain and patience
    3) My guess for Poseidon not using the water to stop ody's torture is probably because poseidon is not in water so he can't use water power, kinda like how any creature that moves fast in water either cannot move or move comparably slow outside of water (just a theory)

HOWEVER, when it comes to Odysseus I feel no sympathy whatsoever. Legit the first thing he said to her was that he had a wife. But I also think people are caught in the one or the other and don’t think about how it can be both. Im not saying it has to be, feel however you want about her that’s totally valid. I just wanted to put that out there cause I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about that… Anyways that’s all thanks for coming to my Ted talk 😅😂
