  • This is a video on the Shure SM7B and the GoXLR Mini. Two devices, that combined make for some seriously satisfying audio.
    The Shure SM7B is a VERY expensive mic. But for good reason as it's a studio quality microphone that's been used the world over by musicians and professional recording artists. As you'll see though, it delivers incredible sound, especially when paired with the GoXLR Mini pre-amp.
    I've been using this setup for my recent video voice overs and for Twitch Streaming and it's been magnificent.

    Highlights of the Shure SM7B include:
    Dynamic microphone with Cardioid polar pattern
    50Hz-20kHz frequency response
    150 ohms output impendace
    XLR connection
    It's a really tight pick up pattern which needs to be set close to your mouth to get the best results. I'd recommend the Blue Compass boom arm as a solution - www.bluemic.co...

    The GoXLR Mini is a pre-amp that allows you to control the mic. It's essential because this mic needs power as it's not USB and is known for needing a lot of gain in order to work properly.
    What makes it interesting though is the control it gives you when streaming, as you can route audio into it and output through your OBS Streamlabs audio as a single source, giving you full control of levels and more.

    Right now I am using the shure sm7b mic, focusrite scarlett 2i2 and cloudlifter and Adobe audition for recording and editing audio for voice over work and audio recordings for my channel. Would the GO XLR mini replace the focusrite and cloudlifter? And would i still be able to use adobe audition for recording my audio using the GO XLR with my shure mic as the set up? I dont do any gaming live stream. This would be strictly be for voice over work.

    • @TheProvokedPrawn
      @TheProvokedPrawn  3 года назад +6

      I don't know what the focusrite does but I do know the cloudlifter isn't necessary. I use mine for both live streaming and voice over things for these RUclips videos with just the Shure mic and the GoXLR. No problems.

      I have this exact same question. Basically trying to understand if I could use the GoXLR mini as a solid audio interface for recording a VO project into Logic for example. Or if for recording (not streaming) a professional audio project, if it is better to go with something like the 2i2.

    • @DevGambit
      @DevGambit 3 года назад

      I would keep the CL in the chain, it will be cleaner. The GoXLR in my opinion is not worth it. (Both versions) there are many other things but this is expensive because of its streaming capabilities that people might need it for but other then that I would not get it.

BTW with the mic on the Blue Compass buy the Shure A26X so that the fat part of the XLR cable going into the mic isn't bumping into the top of the boom arm. Thanks so much mate.

    With those GoXLR settings, did you still add more gain in post or are you just really speaking at higher levels? I wanna speak in a much quieter normal speaking voice because our walls are so paper thin. I'm just having a lot of trouble fine-tuning it without introducing a lot of hiss but also having me as clear sounding as you. It still picks up a lot of my mouse and keyboard too. Having the gate anywhere lower that -51db, I just cut off a lot more. I have the mic gain in the app at 58db gain. My compressor is at -20db with a 12 make up gain. Thanks

    Hi bro I like your video and your channel but I need help
    I bought the same microphone this microphone, but until now I do not know which sound card is suitable for him. I also learned that this mic needs a cloud activator because it needs gain. Can I get a gian up to 100 through goxlr

    • @TheProvokedPrawn
      @TheProvokedPrawn  3 года назад

      It doesn't need a cloud lifter. That's nonsense. You can get more than enough out of the GoXLR to use it. Remember you need to be close to the mic to get the best results. A boom arm is important. (Btw when I say "it's nonsense" I don't mean to insult you, just the people who say you "need" it are incorrect. I don't have one.)
