I literally spent hours looking for his tutorial, finally I found a good one, I even sent this video to a friend because he also wants to get an XLR mic. I also wish it good quality. Thank you so much for this tutorial
Thank you for providing examples for each EQ band's functionality and how it will effect your voice. Your explanations and examples are the best I've found so far!
Thank you for this. I had to make a few adjustments to match my tone. I have a high nasally voice but I appreciate you explaining the functions so I could make the adjustments!!
Solid video! Thanks dude. I watched some other tutorial (i forget who by) when i first got the mini like a year ago, and i've had issues with mic quality ever since. This makes me sound so much better!
Thanks! I have a Rode Podmic and just didn't know what each slider does to my voice if I go all the way up or down. An you gave great examples of how each directions affect your voice. I'll use these as a baseline and tweak it slightly to fit my own voice. Thank you thank you😊👍🏼
Only critique I have on that gain setting suggestion is that can create some issues with non-stream related mic use. By that I mean with other programs(games, voip, etc.) which may not have the settings to boost a mic's volume high enough for others to hear you well if it's already not loud enough. So for example, mine hits the low "good" and to my ears sounds loud enough through discord(hits about middle of the meter on in settings), but I will probably still run into a lot of people who need to boost my mic volume...something which not all voip programs have great settings for. This could end up being an issue in streams too if collaborating, granted most streamers will likely be using discord, so at least there they'll probably be capable of boosting mic volume enough.
Absolutely amazing video man. I gave my SM7B to my girlfriend and bought a q9x which I had the Q9U versions which was good but very muddy and I wasn’t sure if it was me or the mic or the GoXLR. Do you still do help with the audio eq?
Hey ! Thank you for those setting, I really like them. I have a problem where every time I open my pc, my settings reset ? Do you have a solution, please ? Thank you so much
i have a deep voice, tried bass low and high on 5 and damn, i now love my own voice with the extra bass added.. but this could be toooo much 😭 it adds the extra to it somehow.. need to do some work and see what works the best for me.. but idk where to begin sad :p
Is there any difference between make up gain and regular gain? Playing with it currently, I used to run 55 regular gain with 5 make-up but now changed to 50-12 and it makes the noise gate attack way more early. should I just rock something like 57-5 instead?
Appreciate the video and have been running these settings for a year. Recently ive been gaming with friends and they are able to hear my ingame audio through my IEMs. Is there anything specific you refommend me changing so it doesnt pick up on these audio sounds and only off of my voice. Thanks in advance!
My sibilances are around 4-5khz and 8khz. I cut 4.5khz by 3db and raise 10khz instead of 7.8khz by 4db. This helps keep then down and raising at 10k in my opinion gives the voice more air. I tried everything from 12-18k where some of them can make sibilances worse and boosting or cutting 18k will not do much. You can use it though as a low pass filter. I use a Procaster so your mileage may vary.
Question if I use these setting on the goxlr mini what settings do I use on OBS ? Do I copy these in OBS or with these settings I don’t have to use the OBS mic settings ?
Incredible video. Love how you made it so simple, straight and to the point. One issue I'm facing is my mic picking up breath noises if I'm exhaling deeply. It doesn't pick up normal breathing otherwise. Any suggestions on how to tweak the gate for this? Or should I just stop breathing into the mic lol
Couple of things you can do: 1. The obvious thing: Raise your gate threshold. This is pretty obvious but long/hard exhales get pretty close to your vocal loudness and that might make your gate sound unnatural. 2. Turn your mic off-axis by about 45 degrees. You might lose a little bit of warmth, but the air will shoot past the capsule rather than going directly in.
@@KickedTripodYT thanks! I tried raising the gate but I think I don't talk at a consistent volume so my friends get annoyed when I talk quieter at night and they can't hear me heh. I tried the off axis thing, but it didn't seem to help too much. When you say off axis, should the mic still be angled upwards towards my mouth but just rotated? Or should it be horizontal with my desk?
My ass was trying to move your goxlr window out of the way thinking it was mine LOL. Anyways thanks for the video man. it was the 480hz that I needed help with and you answered it. Cheers bro
What are the EQ settings differences from the mini and regular? All I see are videos comparing both and that the audio is the “same” but my buddy tells me the mini has less options and not the same as everyone is suggesting. A video on this would be great.
You can see what the GoXLR EQ looks like here: ruclips.net/video/53AyY02iot0/видео.html The Mini does have less options. The GoXLR has a 10-band EQ and a de-esser while the GoXLR Mini has a 6-band EQ and a de-esser. Both the lowest and highest EQ band are "shelves" so it's really like having 8 and 4 band EQs respectively. Are they different? Yes. Are they different enough to be the sole reason to spend an additional $250-$300? In my opinion, no. This is why, I think, most people gloss over the differences. It's a much cleaner explanation to say, "The GoXLR Mini is the exact same as GoXLR minus motorized sliders, voice FX, and the Sampler" than to go into a more convoluted explanation about number of EQ bands and de-essers. Hope that helps!
@@KickedTripodYT fantastic. It helps a lot. I was actually on that video and screen shot it to compared both and you’ve nailed it. I ordered the mini. I don’t really need the voice changer and recorder. So I am satisfied with the purchase. Tho I didn’t see the de-esser by itself on the mini side.
So, when I go into Mic set up if I have it at 22 dB nothing is heard including me. I don't even move the meter until the 50's. All other settings are as in the video.
I’m deciding whether to get a Maonocaster or GoXLR mini and I know you might not know what the Maonocaster is but I was wondering if you could give me a suggestion
IMO, the Maonocaster isn't a real competitor to the GoXLR Mini. It'll do better for you if you have 2 mics/headphones, otherwise every aspect of the GoXLR Mini is better for a streamer/creator workflow.
Hey John, I'm about to make a purchase, but am slightly worried that the decreased voltage (24) for the phantom power of the mini would not be enough for cloudlifter like the CL1. Could you confirm by any chance whether my concern is valid or not? Also would a monitoring headphone with a CL cause any issues at all? Cheers, Jacint
Any idea why my audio gain fluctuates? My friends in discord say that sometimes in the middle of my sentences it sounds like I'm suddenly far away from my mic, then it comes back to normal.
Is it possible to not have to use the front headphone port for a 3.5mm pair of headphones? I want to avoid having to use the front ports as it doesn’t suit my cable management, I tried the audio out port in the back of the mixer but the headphones didn’t get very loud
The short answer is: No, not without tradeoffs. The long answer is: You have 2 primary options... 1. Run the 3.5mm Line Out of the back of your GoXLR Mini into a headphone amplifier. 2. Use "Listen to this Device" in Windows for your Broadcast Stream Mix and plug your headphones directly into a computer/interface with a headphone jack your are more comfortable using. Both of the methods above have Routing Table implications so you'll be making some tradeoffs.
Go to gate and lower it to 10 or if you dont want to close your mic gate lower to zero, if you do leave it all the way to 0 you will hear everything around you all the time.
