I like how you break down what each level really means. It helps a lot compared to other creators that simply tell you what they think you should to set things at, but don't explain why. After watching this I found it much easier to pay attention to what I'm supposed to be hearing at each frequency. Although I still have a long way to go and a lot of testing before I figure out what sounds best for my bassy voice.
Just kinda left these settings at default for the longest time cause I thought it was a bunch of super complicated stuff I had no knowledge of. Thanks for explaining and simplifying all of these setting and helping me get my mic to sound WAY better.
I only have the mini so I don't have as many settings as the bigger one, but this was extremely helpful in cutting out all those background noises. Thank you so much!
Thanks a lot for the video. I appreciated the labeled breakdown of the equalizer frequencies. That's something that has always eluded my understanding.
This video is by far the best one for GoXLR setup, the way you explain everything was great! I now have it sounding decent for the first time in months
Very Detailed and educational. I always refer back to this if I forget what each one does specifically in order to learn more about the different frequency ranges.
This video was exceptionally helpful, I've been struggling with getting my sound right on my SM7B (wish I had seen your video about it before i bought it lol) and GOXLR for about a week now but after watching this I finally feel like I'm getting the audio quaility I paid for.
I am glad I gave this video a watch, much much better than most big videos, I learned a lot more about the EQ than before and could improve my audio alot, albeit it still feels like I cut off a little mid sentences / towards the end despite proper gate settings
Any tips or advice for someone who naturally speaks quietly and mellow? i copied and changed my settings based on this video. the gate tips worked great, i had horrible background noise from other people in my house and your settings have helped eliminate the constant low end of that noise always picked up... although the louder but less frequent noise still seeps through.
Welp now I know why my audio would go in an out, could not find a single video for that. I'll need to tweak some since I am using dynamic, but it sounds way better now
Awesome video man, thank you! Quick question, I’ve noticed a buzzing sound on my blue yeti when I talk into and I notice it a bit on my stream as well. Will this help get rid of that buzz noise? I’m in bed right now so I can’t try it at the moment haha thanks again!
I've watched this video a few times and really appreciate all the tips and think my audio has gotten much better but one thing I still need to know is how do you get that sweet purple option in the lighting?
what a nice video congratulations, I can ask you a technical question maybe you can give me a solution. I have a go xlr mini connected to a rode pod cast, basically I hear the voice in the headphones and I understand that it passes through the system track. I can solve the problem by disconnecting the power of the go xlr and reactivating everything. obviously it is not a solution but I do not think it depends on the USB 3.0 port or the microphone but maybe from a goxlr problem, it seems that it does not set the tracks correctly. I find all this even after having done all the updates and configurations of the case, I also formatted the pc thinking about a setting but nothing I always have the problem. if you have a supposed solution I would be grateful if you could enlighten me. A thousand thanks. See you soon.
Great help, thanks for your video, mate! No matter what settings I'm using on the go xlr as soon as I start talking I always have a metallic buzzing sound in the background. It's not very loud, but it's definitely hearable - I have an EV RE320 + a TritonAudio FetHead (metallic buzzing is there with and without using the FetHead) - do you have an idea why I have this issue?
I followed some of your information a while ago from the TC Helicon discord. At the time I just set the exact same settings but this time I actually change them and it sounds soo much better. still randomly cuts out on certain levels so gotta figure that out.
issue i have i do all these settings but my quality is always different once i go live. just sounds like quality is compressing too much on live streams .
I mean there is a port on the back of the device marked "USB", and it comes with a USB cable. Also page 17 of the quick start guide that comes with the device specifically states "Connect GoXLR via USB to your computer." (It's step 4) I gotta be honest here, I don't think that bit of information is needed in this particular video.
Why is the volume so low on mine? It sounds amazing but Like I have to put my volume on RUclips to 8/10 to hear it at a reasonable level But others I put my volume on RUclips to 3/10 and I can hear it at a reasonable level But it’s in the good-loud section in both the GoXLR software & streamlabsOBS Why is that?
Don't compare to other videos, it's not a good litmus test. When I run your videos through a level analyzer it's just about exactly where it should be.
@@KickedTripodYT I tried a lot of different settings I have it on dynamic 60 dB gain The compressor isn’t accurate for my voice I need to work on that I just copied settings from RUclips videos
Absolutely, but frequency curves are generally pretty similar. In the interest of making this video as condensed as I could (without mis representing anything), I glossed over quite a few external factors that can also weigh into your microphone setup-although your voice is going to be 90% of it.
It looks like you found the video on your own, but for anyone else who comes across this comment, I have a GoXLR Mini version of this video here: ruclips.net/video/XDrz75MCGtk/видео.html&lc=Ugzri-LL01OJex2XaQ94AaABAg
Hi, just saw your vid in 2022 but I have some question to ask since I followed setting for GOXLR do I still need to active any filter in Streamlabs OBS for mic ?
16kHz is something that if you don't know what to do with it, you should just leave it. In most cases, 16kHz wont effect anything meaningful but can have negative effects on the airiness of your voice. Microphones are widely different in how they handle those high frequencies. Leaving it at 0 is the best thing to do.
THANK YOU. but jesus my Shure sm7b keeps picking up background noise even at -9 its annoying should i get a new microphone or something to pair it up with my GOXLR since it keeps picking up background noise.
@@KickedTripodYTok thank you. For some reason its just not clear enough for me to notice any setting changes unless i do it drastically. It cuts out as well. However, It doesn't cut out on discord or in game chat like it does when i route mic through headphones through routing on the goxlr. ill do some more tweaking.
@@MichaelDooley I would do some troubleshooting on the headphone port. If your Mic Monitor settings (in the Mixer tab of the GoXLR) is set to 100% and the Microphone is set to 100% volume in the app, you should hear it loud and clear.
A compressor will bring it down when you're shouting (or a limiter) but there's not really a mainstream plugin that's used for this. However, what you're referring to is a normalizer and/or maximizer. However, I highly encourage you not to use a plugin to make you louder. Set it so your speaking range is in the range suggested in this video and then use your compressor/limiter to make sure you don't peak.
hello, amazing video! I was wondering if maybe you could have a discord call with me or something and help me with my goxlr. I've had the sm7b mic and the goxlr for quite some time now and never really adjusted the settings to make my voice sound good and I've watched a lot of videos and still don't understand how it all works

A comprehensive yet concise breakdown, helping immensely not just with the "what" but the "why" in choosing each setting. This is the good stuff.

Yes. Always. If it's too loud in your headphones, you can turn down the Mic Monitor volume by expanding the headphone faders in the Mixer tab.
