So to make it, make sense. This is a take on the Devine comedy, Dante’s inferno. They literally traveled through hell and had to escape. The Stone is the same stone that is referenced in the first Harry Potter movie. The sorcerers/ Philosophers stone
@@ibuprofriends no it's not. English is a germanic language with heavy influences from French and Latin and minor influences from every other language. The French are why we say "hotel" and not "hostel" for example

That being said, in 2004, French police found an underground movie theatre in the catacombs, from La Mexicaine De Perforation; they had a full bar, electricity, etc. Whereas, the catacombs under Rome date back to the 1st Century (AD) & are heavily monitored & secured...and yes, the bones are all real.
Wow, I thought you were kidding about the theater til I looked it up. Les UX built the theater and also restored the Pantheon clock, just like George in the movie. Very cool.
Being pinned in a small space by a neighbour kid for ages when I was 4 and going to Catholic school for my entire education made this movie honestly terrifying for me. Hell and small dark spaces.
*characters reading instructions on exiting hell* “Bro I don’t care I want to know how to get out of here” 😂😂😂 I had the same reaction when I first watched it.
Mell with the filmmaking insight (they shot the film in the ACTUAL CATACOMBS in France!!) and Billy with the hilarity (because “Mariah Carey unfrosting for Christmas” is WILD! 😂)
Cameraman falls to his death, or close to it. Billy about falls out of his seat laughing like a sociopath... "Maaaaan, he needed to die! He was slowin' errybody down!" 🤣
The Philosopher's Stone is a concept dating back to ancient times during the emergence of alchemy as a science/ esoteric religion. It was seen as a purifying material that was part of the process that could turn lead into gold. However, keeping in mind alchemy's spiritual side, it was also seen as a symbol for purifying the self into one's ultimate form (lead to gold, but in a spiritual sense). The movie took this as immortality, and while some undoubtedly believed it would unlock immortality, this wasn't it's original purpose. The stone itself isn't supposed to be a pre-existing artifact, but something one could create via alchemical means. Like lots of harry potter's origins, JK Rowling took inspiration from real world mysticism, but only at a surface level. This made it digestible for the average audience while keeping SOME authenticity, but it did lose quite a few of the more intimate details.
So, the "theory" of this movie (which is confirmed to be the actual message) is that this is based on Dante Alighieri´s Inferno, by the book The Divine Comedy. In that version hell is represented by 9 levels, nine circles. Which every level has this sort of personal Sins of who ever visit it. Like some of the scenes you watched on the movie (the car set on fire, the visions, the stone, etc. ) In fact if you look at the book cover you can find it very similar to the poster of the movie.
@41:15 um excuse me sir, the fact that this is my all time favorite movie. I’ve watched it a plethora of times and was so happy to see this reaction. Thanks for the vid
I really like how they portrayed one of the hermetic principles (as above so below) and how she finally realized the true potential of it (as I believe so it will be) It's a bit different than just wishing for something. You can kinda translate it with "fake it till make it" if you like 😅
Love seeing you guys together! The MC became the human personification of the stone itself, which is why she was able to heal their injuries. FUN FACT: Those catacombs are real and can cause streets to collapse.
@@HandsomeLongshanks i recommend it highly. not sure if you were patched into it, but it was a scarily accurate portrait of society in the early 60’s, through the lens of an advertising firm.
@samanthanickson6478 that's more than anyone has ever said about the show to me before. I usually get "dude! It's sooo good!" And other vague generalities. The way you described it is way more interesting. Now it's definitely higher up on my list. Thanks
fun fact: This is the first movie to ever get approval from the French government to film in the catacombs. Filming conditions weren't easy and there were days they were wading through super-high water.
Also, this movie is largely a retelling of Dante's Inferno where the character goes through several levels of hell. This starts when they go through the blocked-off tunnel which was limbo. Limbo is where people who didn't do anything exceptionally bad but didn't do enough good to end up in heaven to simplify it. we get glimpses of other layers but it's mostly about redemption. We see Papillion refuse to take responsibility for his sins and so he's damned for it (frozen in stone). This is why they could only escape after admitting to and taking responsibility for their sins. If they had never done that they'd have never been able to leave. The inscription above the gates of hell was also taken from Dante's Inferno.
I officially dare the two of you to watch 'Rosemary's Baby' together - the 60s Roman Polanski movie, not the 2000s miniseries. I want to know if you two put it in the "never watching this again" category.
