I always like to think in this moment the Thing is trying to speak but because it hasn’t fully transition all that comes out are the screams of its many, many victims.
The idea that's really unsettling is that they learnt about how The Thing works pretty damn early - they caught the Dog-Thing early, they caught Bennings-Thing in the middle of the transformation thus learning it can imitate humans and becoming a lot more cautious early on, they even devised a great test to check who's The Thing, and even with all those things going in their favour everyone still ended up dying.
Being 7 years old seeing this movie for the first time. This was one of the many parts of the film that gave me the creeps! As Windows slowly turns around, you gradually begin to hear the writhing and churning of the tentacles circulating around Bennings body was something haunted me for years! This was a movie truely scared the ever living crap out of me.
They cut the shot of Bennings... well, what remained of Bennings begging for help as he was assimilated. The fact that he remained alive and conscious as he was digested into the the thing's matrix was deeply disturbing.
That wasn’t Bennings that Windows stumbled upon; that was the alien. Bennings had already been eaten, he just stumbled upon it in the process of turning *into* Bennings.
The scene is very important since the Assimilation process was hard to convey to the audience. This shows exactly how the THING replicates people while also being a creepy addition to the movie
Imagine what we don't see. Bennings being speared/grabbed by the dog-thing, being pulled over and tentacles bursting out to wrap him, force their way into him, maybe even just pull him closer to meld with the main mass. Whatever you imagine happened to the poor bastard before Windows got back is worse than anything they could've shown.
That right there is real horror. What you *don’t* see. Even now, it’s genuinely unsettling to think about. What moment it grabbed him, how it grabbed him, what it did to devour him (did it thread its way inside him? Did it slather him with digestive juices and melt him down alive? Did the main mass open a pair of jaws and swallow him like a snake?), and worst of all: How it did it *that fucking fast without alerting anyone.* And the scarier part is whoever patient zero was, the Dog-Thing probably devoured them in the exact same horrific way. Whatever happened after that “dog” walked into that room with the silhouette, wasn’t clean or painless. It was every bit as gory and horrible as whatever happened to poor Bennings. We just didn’t see it, leaving our imagination to fill in the blanks. That is fucking scary. The terror of what the mind can conjure. THAT is true horror.
It did it that fast because that's how fast it happened, like when Garry got assimilated it just starred fusing to him, he couldn't do anything because that shit was already in his brain.
I totally loved this movie. I have the DVD. This was made before all the bullshit CGI computer shit. Luke the 3rd movie. All 3 were very good in their own ways. The original black & white was a little bit different as far as the alien entity. It was partially plant based but still could take over a human or other life form. This version I think was way better because they did not use so much CGI. computer animated graphics kill the effects and originality of the movie. Creepy to think there could be something like this out there. Reminds me of another movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Remember that movie with the pods. You go to sleep near a "POD", and it absorbed your body and recreated a new body with alien DNA. good movie too.
The part that freaks me out the most in body snatchers b + w version, is when he kisses her and she opens her eyes and you see she's one of them. I've always said women are not of this world 🤣🤣🤣. My Mrs did the same thing once as she knows that part scares me . She had black lens on her eyes too . She likes a prank or two she does
Neither, or likely Childs because we didn't see anything of him for a bit of time during those last 18 minutes of the movie and John carpenter never really says anything about it.

I thought I always thought it was the growl or sound an animal makes when it's cornered
Is it possible that it was scared?
Psychologically unnerving, well-used practicle effects and suspenseful. One of the greatest horror films known to date.

Great comment, remember the majority of them are scientists.
@@ThehulkGreen well, the paranoia and lack of sleep started to make them irrational, which was their downfall
Shows how Gary was not ready to battle the THING and MacReady was. The shift in leadership needed to begin for the survival of the group
How'd Bennings-Thing get fully dressed if his arms and hands weren't complete?
@@trickq5883 it put on another pair of clothes.

Are you sure that wasn’t Nauls’ deleted death?

Ahh,the good old days when they could make a simple movie.
Hard to find any originality these days smh
Without feeling the need to have check boxes for racial diversity and LBGTQ representation as well as a denouncement of the dreaded patriarchy.
You guys realize this is also a remake, right?
You have no idea what your talking about
No CG just well acted with a real sense of danger this is how to make a movie

It probably cornered him or wrapped his mouth first to make sure he couldn't scream.
My God that's terrifying

2:26 The Scream of a Million Worlds
And think this terrifying scene was made in the early 80s
I honestly love how you can hear the thing before you even see it😳
Just a great sci-fi movie. Thank you Mr. Carpenter.
this is probably my fav movie of all time. alien and the original start wars movie are close second and third.

How'd he get that coat on so fast whist transforming and with giant crazy hands like that?
Poor Gary.
I have watched this masterpiece about 10 times a year for 30 odd years.
I like how the thing light up in a sec while a entire fuel can doesn’t
It didn't explode because the fuel already was already mostly flowed out of the can.
This is like some messed up version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
No, it's worse..
Thank you for beeping the F word, i was afraid to be traumatized by such unbridled debauchery.
It's Bennings!
Nope, it’s just Chuck Testa
