There's something about your channel that sets it apart from other landscape photographers. Something that has kept me coming back for years and looking forward to each new video every week. Its hard to put my finger on exactly what that is. I think it's a combination of your approach to photography, the quality of your images, and the way you present your process through video. More simply put...it's inspiring.
Couldnt agree more. For me it is that cozy feeling, the warm music, the unagitated way of explaining things to us, the british XD. His films are always relaxing. At the same time, he always manages to spread the joy which is really infectious. I have the same feeling often with Morten Hilmer's documentaries, but those videos are quite long (over 30min) and focused more on wild live than landscape. So its just that touch different.
I feel exactly the same. I'm constantly looking on RUclips for another one like Thomas so I can watch more than 1 photography video a week but there is noone like him and his style.
Add me to the list of subscribers that feel the same way! I think highchiller said it best. Your videos are like relaxing documentaries on landscape photography. I learn a lot, get inspired a lot, and chuckle quite a bit also. If Thomas forgot to put a card in or left a lens cap on the film camera while shooting, we'd hear all about it. It's like being on a photo adventure with a good friend.
LOVE to see film photographers today. In the "OLD" days I would buy film by the case and had a fridge just for the film. Travelling was NUTS as I would have bricks of film with me. Today a couple rolls of film is an adventure. I guess that is why I am in love with digital. A couple camera cards and a laptop and that is it. NO more worrying about Xrays, heat, carrying fresh film to the assignment then transporting it back after it was exposed, shipping to the lab, etc, etc, etc.
I shoot liberally mainly when I'm in a slump. Great work on the photos. You never know what you're going to get with film and something, on at least one of the frames, will not turn out how you wanted. That's why I like it, embracing the imperfection and chaos.
I'm like 1 min 30 sec in... "but can we make it work?"... I know the answer, YES YOU CAN, and I'm going to freaking love the result. You are an inspiration.
I was dying for more of Svalbard and oh boy : this one didn’t disappoint. A stunning set of images again and the portra160 was put to such an amazing use !
11:08 is spectacular. Something about the subtle color and the atmospheric haze over the mountains just sets it apart for me from the rest of the images. Feels like it's straight out of a movie, like some Bond villain's secret arctic base would be there.
So here I sit in stifling summer heat, watching Thomas Heaton, Nigel Danson, and Brendan Van Son all in the near-frozen Arctic and wishing I were there too.
This one is a doozy. Great story telling, fantastic mood, awesome images and I loved the pieces to camera through the x-pan viewfinder. Awesome work Thomas!
A friend of mine did a cross Atlantic sailboat trip using the X-Pan - it's all low POV waterscapes - scanned on my Imacon (now Hasselblad) Flextight 646 scanner. Great little camera.
Thx Thomas. Now you have me searching for an XPan when I have no business doing so 🫵🏼 Quickly becoming one of my favorite photography channels. I just moved back to Hawaii after almost 10 years away. It's incredible in every direction I look so I can't wait to dive back into photography after a few painful years away. Cheers 🤙🏼🍻
Oh, the guy that was filming you - he is so good with the composition! Beautiful. You can see that video is probably not his thing, but the picture when set is so good.
What an absolutely wonderful treat it was to see this video pop up on the feed! The images all turned out really great and brought back such wonderful memories from the trip! The polar image is really something! Cheers! 😊
If you want to shoot panoramas similar to the X-pan but don't want to spend the bucks for the specialist camera and lenses, you can mask the viewfinder of the typical 2 1/4 camera and then crop the pictures when printing them. This also gives you a little wiggle room if you need slightly more top or bottom. A 645 camera will waste even less film than the 6X6 format and still give you a little wiggle room. The X-pan is a unique camera, but a bit of an expense for us common mortals.
Great video reminding me of the tactile feeling and the calmness of being in the moment taking photographs. I don’t have a Hasselblad but the idea of taking a single camera and single lens and immersing in the landscape or environment - urban, rural, forest, mountains, seaside etc - catching images and impressions is my definition of freedom
The first pano is an absolute belter - could look at it all day. Have recently picked up film again and am collecting the Olympus OM cameras and Zuiko lenses. Fujifilm Acros is now on my shopping list :) Stay well Tom
Nice watching another video from Svalbard and see photos photographed with the X-Pan! An excellent photo with the polar bear! I hope there will be more Svalbard photos! I myself have been on Svalbard by ship up to 80°N in 2017. Kind regards from Sweden
Hi, Thomas, just watched your video shooting x-pan in the Arctic. The one thing about black and white photography is that when you get it right it is magic ! You certainly got it right here with stunning images that really do justice to the fabulous landscape. That trip really paid off in the videos and images you gave us, WELL DONE.
I'm so glad you made another Svalbard video. I was worried we were only going to get the one. 😊 Both monochrome and colour images were amazing! I think my favourite (but only by a slimmest of margins) was the image with the blue ice. PS I think you're on a winning strategy by mixing up your content between digital and film, different aspect ratios, trips abroad and van-life etc. I keeps the chanel interesting and it looks like you're having a great time of it too. Looking forward to the next vid.❤
Insanely beautiful video and photography. I had just heard about the hasselblad x-pan on The Art of Photography, and YT popped up this as a suggested video.
Cor, bloody brilliant X-Pan goodness Mr H! The TriX came out a treat. I also loved the completely differing mood the Portra 160- gave too. Lovely stuff. Cheers ~ Peter
Wow! I have no interest in film photography, but I loved this. I must admit, it makes me nostalgic for the days when cameras had no menus. Just select the right lens on and set your exposure triangle and off you go.
I was not on your ship but I traveled around Spitsbergen. I hope you make a video about photography and videography. I have changed to videography from photography. Additionally, I am changing to wildlife more than landscape. I appreciate the landscape. It is truly breathtaking.
Man that looks like an awesome trip! The x-Pan is an beautiful piece of photographic equipment. I bought mine in the early 2000’s I think, have now handed it down to my son who got into film a couple years ago.
You have a great ability so that the horizon does not appear crooked in the photos, and it is difficult, I rarely manage to do it with my TX1, hehe. Good video!
Beautiful work. We are planning an Iceland cruise next year and can't wait. It won't be a fancy photography one like this but on a big cruise line but still hope to be able to get some nice pics out of it.
Only the picture counts. I would never have thought that you would take pictures on "green". I've never seen a Hasselblad that's so unnaturally scraped off. professional.
I enjoy the X-Pan crop feature on my Hasselblad X1D Mark 2 looks fantastic. You made it work very well !! It's always better to use a different approach the photos looks great

Wow, thanks! That genuinely means a lot.
I feel exactly the same.

I couldn't agree more, I always wait for the new videos with baited breath. Excellent ,Thomas well done

that camera for those views seem the perfect match. all the images were a joy to behold.
I'm like 1 min 30 sec in... "but can we make it work?"... I know the answer, YES YOU CAN, and I'm going to freaking love the result. You are an inspiration.
Hahaha, thanks 👍👍
Thomas, I'm so glad you started shooting film.
I am only 0:40 into this and I had to stop it just to say, "I love the opening!"
This was a real bonus Thomas, seeing more stunning images from Svalbard. The panos really did suit the environment perfectly
This might be your best produced video yet
Thank you for the nice pictures. Thank you for your work!
I love these black and white panos!!!
I had to stop the video just now to say exceptional intro. Well done.
This series is wonderful., what a trip.
YES! I love so much when there's no modern tech involved in taking absolutey breathtaking vistas. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks a lot 👍👍
Always a good day with Thomas heaton videos. Now and forever my favorite channel on this website
Fabulous use of the X-Pan. Thank you.
Toms Worst image on his worst day ... is still miles better than my best photo on my best day ..... this is what inspires me to watch your channel
The video quality of the Xpan is really ...... vintage :-) ...... Great pictures by the way ... Kind regards, Guy.
Epic intro, Tom (and great photography obviously)!
I was enjoying the Acros 100 B&W images, but the subtle colour at 12:05 is just knockout. Mission accomplished!
Wow l loved this. Super photos and video. This trip has been amazing to watch. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure........Alioban
Awesome. I enjoy seeing you shoot all formats. Your channel is so versatile. It has me looking forward to each week. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot. I've never really thought of the channel being versatile, but I think that is a quality to strive for.
I was dying for more of Svalbard and oh boy : this one didn’t disappoint. A stunning set of images again and the portra160 was put to such an amazing use !
Love these images. I can't resist a panoramic. The production quality of the film is outstanding too.
11:08 is spectacular. Something about the subtle color and the atmospheric haze over the mountains just sets it apart for me from the rest of the images. Feels like it's straight out of a movie, like some Bond villain's secret arctic base would be there.
Great, just great photography. Amazed by the quality of this Pan camera en traditional film. well done!
Please do more film photography videos, they are definitely your best ones
That first pano of the mountains is a cracker 👌
Brilliant photography once again, so much atmosphere on those images Thomas, Thanks again.
Love the X-Pan. Just add the icy drama and it’s a soulful choice.
Beautiful photographs, Thomas. Acros. I often use this film simulation with my Fuji.
So here I sit in stifling summer heat, watching Thomas Heaton, Nigel Danson, and Brendan Van Son all in the near-frozen Arctic and wishing I were there too.
I love that format...my wish is for a XPan or Fuji XT-1 but living it through Thomas is a great adventure as well
Fantastic impressions of the Arctic.
It's always exciting to see another video with the X-Pan.
This gets me excited to shoot some winter scenes on black and white film. These images turned out fantastic!
This one is a doozy. Great story telling, fantastic mood, awesome images and I loved the pieces to camera through the x-pan viewfinder. Awesome work Thomas!
Perfection we chase but can never achieve, lovely shots by the way
Love your channel and Adam's and Gavin's, too. Three different sides of a spectrum but all complementing each other
Every photo in this video is stunning. Awesome job

Oh, the guy that was filming you - he is so good with the composition! Beautiful. You can see that video is probably not his thing, but the picture when set is so good.
It’s how it looked to my untrained eye. Never wanted to offend anyone.
It remind me how i sailed twice across Baltic Sea, with Fuji X-H1 and only adapted Canon nFD 28mm f/2.8 and on other cruise with Canon nFD 50mm f/1.4
My first thought was why? Then your 1st shot that concluded with the polar bear which on my high res 55 inch Samsung are fantastic.
Excellent
Great video Tom, you make me want to play with some film again. Thanks for taking us along
what an adventure. Epic series Thomas. Loved your experience shooting with film. Simply outstanding.
What an absolutely wonderful treat it was to see this video pop up on the feed!
The images all turned out really great and brought back such wonderful memories from the trip! The polar image is really something!
Cheers! 😊
Cheers, man. And thanks for your efforts with the filming 👍
acros is my favourite film its just amazingly toned
I wish I had the cameras I have now back when I was up working in the high Arctic. Incredible landscape and once in a lifetime experience.
Like shooting fish in a barrel - lovely work as always.

That shot of the Polar bear is spectacular! Love the composition.
The content this man makes is so good. We are lucky with this man
I love the X-Pan wide look! Thanks.
Loved the look of Fujifilm Across! 🖤🤍
Me too 👍
Love the XPan aspect ratio!
Cracking images. Like being a child in a sweet shop judging by your reactions on the video.
The first pano is an absolute belter - could look at it all day. Have recently picked up film again and am collecting the Olympus OM cameras and Zuiko lenses. Fujifilm Acros is now on my shopping list :) Stay well Tom
Great video and amazing pictures!!

Whenever i get into a bit of a photography lul watching your vids inspires me to grab the camera and get out there! Love your content
ok, now I need to go to Svalbard ... Thanks Tom :)
thomas, it was amazing like everytime. thank you for that
Man that spot is a dream location for panos! Stunning work. Can't say I'd try to get the polar bear shot with one though haha!
Great Video Thomas, my favourites are 5:13 and 6:42, the boat must have got very close to the polar bear to get it in the image! thanks for sharing
Muy buen trabajo !!!
gorgeous work as always!
your first B&W XPan images are among the best you took for me in Svalbard, congrats !
Wow, thanks. I kind of wished I'd planned left a little though.
Intro was beautiful
Love the B&W film images in this video. 👏👏👏

Hey Thomas, these shots are so beautiful!
Alaskan Cruise 8/11/2023….22 DAYS and a Wake-up, until I set sail from Seattle….Hoping to grab some great scenic/landscape photos….
I'm so glad you made another Svalbard video. I was worried we were only going to get the one. 😊

The Acros images were magical Thomas

long time subscriber, haven't watched much for a while. You're right, it was a really great video.
Brilliant intro!

One word, beautiful
Man that looks like an awesome trip! The x-Pan is an beautiful piece of photographic equipment.
I bought mine in the early 2000’s I think, have now handed it down to my son who got into film a couple years ago.
Amazing as usual. You really deserve way more subs
I appreciate that, thanks.

Beautiful work. We are planning an Iceland cruise next year and can't wait. It won't be a fancy photography one like this but on a big cruise line but still hope to be able to get some nice pics out of it.
Sounds great! I bet you'll be able to get some unique images of Iceland from the ship.
BTW, I really enjoyed this ‘rough’ vlogging style, Tom.
That X-Pan is the only camera is really interesting. Great shots.
Only the picture counts. I would never have thought that you would take pictures on "green". I've never seen a Hasselblad that's so unnaturally scraped off. professional.
Man, this video looks like it was a lot of fun. My favorite part is it's 111 degrees outside, so this cools me down.
Nice images, Thomas. Thanks
gorgeous shots
I enjoy the X-Pan crop feature on my Hasselblad X1D Mark 2 looks fantastic. You made it work very well !! It's always better to use a different approach the photos looks great
