The 90mm shot with the three trees is easily a portfolio image imo. You managed some wonderful shots !
That tree shot with the 90mm is just awesome.
That picture of the ancients oak tree at 90mm is amazing!
Those oaks... wow stunning! I've taken so many of my favorite shots by the side of the highway. What a miracle.
I’m in shock at how astoundingly good the shots were of the field with a few grand old trees in it. I paused my washing up and just stared open jawed at them…
I absolutely love film photography (I recently got a Hasselblad 500cm myself), so seeing someone so skilful use film is so exciting!
That's great feedback, thanks a lot. Autumn colour certainly helps with the photography. Wish I didn't overexpose that first image though 😔
@Thomas Heaton is the master of composition when it comes to trees in fields lol. I always know some great shots are coming when he starts shooting in an open area.
That photo is just astonishing! This is a once in a lifetime kind of result for most of us but Thomas makes it look so easy.
@@IvanRiveraStagea - Which? It was a nice day of shooting but I saw nothing that would add to his excellent portfolio where the bar is pretty high.
@@johnsmith1474 The lighting, balance and color of the image at 13:53 is great. I know it is not an exotic location and that it does not stand up against ths rest of his portfolio images. It's just that most people that shoot film part time (like me) generally do not have many images of that quality. The fact that he was able to generate such a beautiful image just by the roadside (in a location that is new to him even) adds to output's charm.
You are brilliant mate, it's not just the photography tips and tricks that you share or the beautiful places you take us, or the superb images you share, you're also a great film maker, that gets overlooked sometimes. Your channel makes a big difference to my day. Thanks
He's a fine storyteller that's for sure.
I was going to say the same - you do not teach us tips and tricks but, more importantly, the mood of landscape photography. Your approach, the way you do things teach me and help me a lot in my photography.
These is a really nice comment to read, thank you. Videos like this don't always perform as well as the more headline grabbing top tip videos, but reading such comments encourages me to continue on this path of video making.
The final pano after the light hit with the three trees, magnificent Thomas. Beautiful man. Love it. Portfolio piece for sure!!!
Great images, it was heart warming to once again to hear the crank mechanism of the camera and the sound of the mirror locking up.
I was right about my guesses in the last video about the location! Söderåsen National Park and it's surroundings near the village of Röstånga, including the Oden lake, is an incredibly beautiful area! I'm fortunate to live 40 minutes away by car and I and my wife love to camp with our caravan at the nearby camping about 3-4 times every year!
I loved the photos, especially the ones with the old oak trees! I have to visit that place and take a few photos myself!
This series have been a treat to watch! Looking forward to the next video!
Hej Jimmy!
So weird and amazing to see you shoot in my old areas. I had a house a bit further down the road from the field with the oak trees.
The Green in the photo at 14:14 just POPS. What an incredible shot.
Wonderful Autumn images, love the Xpan shots, especially the last ones with Oak trees, worth hanging on those extra minutes and rewarded by the lovely light
WOW!! That shot of the three trees at 13:45 is perfection! Lovely work, Tom.
@thomasheaton the complexity and balance of the composition, light and lines in the river shot is just exquisite! Bravo!
Hi Thomas. Nice to see you in a place I can relate to. I been to "Söderåsens nationalpark" several times and its always wonderful, not the least in the spring with the beech tree having light green leaves and thousands of white hoppers on the ground. I also got some nice pictures of an heron fishing in the little stream in the bottom of the ravine. A place I definitely recommend for someone visiting the south of Sweden. I think you got some lovely pictures with lovely autumn colors.
I'm living in Sydney for 4 years while I study (currently 3 years in). The shot of trees in the field at the end with autumn colours and gray skies made me feel so nostalgic for my native Northern Irish scenery. Sydney is beautiful, but there's 'no' autumn here as almost all the trees are evergreen.
Should take a drive into the mountains for a very different landscape.
The second oak tree shot with the Xpan II is just magnificent! I had to pause the video and was looking at it for a while. Amazing.
I love looking at your van footage. It's become a character of its own on this channel.
Hallelujah indeed! The roadside's photographs were simply stunning!
The shots in this video just got better and better, amazing work!
Nature always treats You. And what a treat You got. Those trees with that lighting look beautiful
Purely a magical place and so well put together, just brilliant
The second shot by the water works for me. A combination of the composition, reflection and polariser creates a very pleasant, tranquil image.
I wasn't sure at first, but it's growing on me.
13.53 what an image. What a scene! Stunning, brilliant, wow
That 90mm (13:47) oak shot, a masterpiece!!!
Man I love vibing out to your vids. So relaxing! Always great music choices.
Besides the fabulous images and tutelage the really top thing is watching someone radiating enthusiasm and a positive attitude- thanks much
12:55 one of your best shots ever…. Aaaaaaaaaamaaaazing! ❤❤❤❤❤
The field/tree shots were the photos that made my eyes happy. I love the pano shots. They just seem to make a more dramatic story to me.
That first Xpan composition is unreal! The river in the background is so well placed because it drew me in and really ties the image together nicely.
The photos of the old oaks look surreal. Well done.
When I saw the shot with the field of trees, there was a sharp intake of breath and a exclamation…wow!!. my wife looked at me and asked if I was ok. “Just look at this” I said. “Have you ever seen something so simply beautiful”. Her reaction….Wow!! Says it all Tom.
Your videos are a highlight of the week. It’s all so calming like a break from all the craziness of the internet 🤗
Really enjoying this trip! The 90mm shot of the oaks made me stand up and applaud. Lovely stuff!
Dude those X-pan shots of the Oak trees on the side of the road are my favorite shots of yours yet! Really stunning!
Yep those 2 roadside shots are pretty incredible and well worth the wait
Yeah, I'm happy with how they came out, but it was stressful with cars whizzing by.
The 90mm shot is absolutely incredible
Love the panoramic photos, and looks like it was the perfect setting to try out the new camera. Thanks for sharing!
On the strength of these images alone your trip to Sweden and purchase of the Hasselblad Xpan II panoramic film camera was well worth it. I especially loved the illuminated tree in the field and also the wider version at 13.03.
The photos by the road are really beautiful. Well done.
I NEED that 90mm tree print! So so good!
Just loved the last shot of the ancient oak, absolutely stunning!
These were all fantastic, but the ones in the national park were just perfection.
The close-up pano on the trees is beautiful!
The 90mm tree shot is amazing. Great job!
I love all these shots, but the pano at the 11:00-minute mark felt like looking at a painting, in the best way possible. Excellent.
Amazing shots! I loved especially those taken from the roadside ☺
Wow I actually prefer the non-polarized shot as well. The polarized one seems much too warm, while the first was more true-to life with those colors more balanced. What a beautiful spot in the woods! I've certainly taken a spill or two on steep hillsides just like that one, haha. Glad it was only the video cam that took a hit. That pano at 11:00 was absolutely super! And great luck there with the light breaking. Made for an awesome pano at the end! I had similar luck the last morning I went out, but unfortunately the light moved way too fast to video any of it!
The non-polarized shot keeps the darker tones on the tree trunks which I think looks nice.
I’m with you. I actually really disliked the Polarized shot!
Agreed
I agree - I found the one with the poliarizer looked a bit artificial in terms of colors.
the images of the oak trees are amazing with that lovely light!
Love shooting film..
Using these cameras is like driving oldtimer cars. You arrive at any destination with any car, but it's got so much more character to the process.
Wandering, exploring national park looks like something legendary in your channel, Thomas.
Söderåsen: the south ridge in English. Sweden is saturation heaven at the end of Oct-beginning of November. Keep making these videos Tom, we are all mighty thankful.
Some nice shots in this one. Your filmmaking skills are really showing some polish too. I look forward to this every week.
The 90mm shot of the oak trees in the field is unreal. Looks straight out of Middle Earth.
That is my favorite too!
Why is Thomas so blessed with such lighting conditions, and not us? That's unfair 😉
Middle Earth! That was my thought too. Maybe in the plains in the south of Gondor.
Lovely video, really liked to square crop pool picture, lovely composition and no too busy at all as well as the first roadside pano, just love the light on all those spaced out trees in the field. 👏👏👏
Beautiful Panorama shots Thomas! 👍 Skäralid is about 30km from our front door and is a very nice place, making some photographs during Spring and Autumn seasons.
I'm happy that you came to Sweden at last! You got some really good shots!
Fantastic images Thomas, and especially stunning shots in the second half of the video.
Some fantastic images! Especially loved the last 2.
I love your visual storytelling. Thank you!
I just bought your book, partly because I’m sure it’s beautiful but also to thank you for the inspiration you’ve caused in me (and many others) over all this time, sincerely. Thank you.
Being a Scandinavian country you think of Sweden being miles and miles of pine trees. But in this instance it makes a surprising but nice change and when you think about it the vikings made their ships from Oak.
Молодец!!! Шикарные снимки, шикарные места для съёмок. С нетерпением жду следующей серии. Удачи!!!!
Bloody hell ! That 90mm XPan tree shot is mind-blowing !! It's as unnatural as it is superbly executed !
That one requires a large print, there's no doubt about it !
Those shots by the road was amazing when the light change I was saying YEAH! the light the clouds!.....loved the last shot with the different colors evenly split in 1/3's green then fall colors then grey clouds......thanks for giving me inspiration on the woodland that is about as much good scenery there is in my part of the world.
I'm always so impressed how you create order, or at least an appealing pattern, out of chaotic scenes. Fantastic as usual!
Some of my favorite photos in that National Park and the 90mm Oak Tress! Thanks, Thomas!
12:58 This is gorgeous!
I have received my landscape photography book as a birthday present from my wife. Highly recommended. Fabulous and I'll have hours of pleasure reviewing the images and watching the videos. Thank you thomas for sharing your passion/lifestyle/career here on RUclips.
Damn the oak trees shots came out absolutely astonishing. Im from Sweden btw! Glad you got to enjoy our fantastic nature! Much love, youre an inspiration for an aspiring photographer!
lovely to see your excitement, pleasure, shooting on very different formats, Provia...
I visit Söderåsen a few times a year and there's always something new to shoot. The forest and the river shift over time and since I live quite close nearby I often make a note to revisit a composition at a different time of year to see if it's settled into something more photogenic.
13:46 straight from heaven!
Thanks Thomas for sharing these amazing pics and your journey. Quanta bellezza. Grazie, Rosaria
12:54 the photo is simply stunning !
Beautiful stunning shot of the oak trees
Great images Tom. You’re getting good at this film stuff. Well done 👍
Another great video. What great shots in the national park. Glad you persevered at the roadside, particularly liked the first two. Looking forward to the next edition of your trip.
The Hasselblad C 500 was one of my favorit camera of all times, only to be exceeded by the Rollei SL 66. You don't know, what memories this shooting brought up. Great thank you very much. (maybeIhavetogetoneagainsoon)😀
Yeah, you finessed it enough, there was order in the chaos. Great stuff.
Lovely photos and so great seeing how you work.
A tip that is a bit late I guess - you now have the Xpan and you also have access to the Őresund bridge. The longest in Europe. Does seem like a match, don't it!
There is a foot path that allows you to walk all the way down to and even under the bridge . Might be fun to try one day, when the road takes you back to Sweden .
Safe travels!
Ah! My neck of the woods. Literally. Great fun to see you in "my" forrest!
Loved the last ones by the roadside..you definitely got lucky with the light.. very inspiring
It always amazes me how little faith you portray with your film photography. Your shots are amazing, and I can only wish that I can get at least one film shot as good as one of your worst, I would be in heaven. You have an instinct and skill that I am sure many envy. You have taught me a lot, especially about perseverance. Love your videos, keep up the good work. Cheers.
The work showcased in this video is simply staggering, incredibly beutiful images Thomas, there's no much more I can say. Those compositions were marvelous!
This video and images has to be my favourite. Those colours are so good.
Amazing series...loved the photos, place, music...perfect!
Welcome to Sweden, Tom. I've shot Soderasen a few times and it's always stunning. I'm so glad to see you got beautiful conditions there, and some amazing compositions. It's given me another perspective on the place (and some roadside sights!) that I wouldn't have had otherwise.
Give a shout of you're coming this way again. There are some amazing coastal areas that I'm sure you'd enjoy.
Amazing. I'm speechless. Don't know what to say honestly.
Some of your best work. Found the video quite emotional, very inspiring. Great job Tom.
Amazing how over in Sweden it looks like the middle of Fall still, but here in Wisconsin where I live it looks like it's the middle of winter! All of the trees are barren, we have about five inches of snow on the ground (it's still snowing as I type this) and it's absolutely freezing! Beautiful work, though! I miss shooting film.
We had a very warm fall in southern Sweden this year. I think we officially/metrologically left summer just last week.
Some absolute bangers in that set, Thomas!! Great work! Hope you had a blast.
nice haul from the trip, the square and the pano do make a nice combo, being opposites and I think you got 1 and 2 shots that showed that, it's a great theme to follow and have, is the pano and the square ...just shows what a great set of lenses were made for the xpan and how even 35mm still stands up today..... :)
Some sweet shots. You're making me want to take my Rolleiflex 2.8D out for a spin soon. It's been a piece of artwork on my stereo rack for some years now.
"Settings unknown"
Ahh yes, the joy of film shooting
What a treat to see you work in my part of the world. Countless hours I've been running around in Söderåsens Nationalpark looking for compositions. Always coming home with isolated scenes and macros. The surroundings are beautiful, but very chaotic. Amazing to see your process here. Hope you enjoyed the experience. Thanks for this, and keep up the good work.
that Oak tree with XPAN is brutal.... i never knew shooting landscape can be this fun...
Stunning photography and great video overall.
If you stick with the photo at 6:57 for a bit you realize that is awesome. Orange on the right, black with reflections in center as it moves over to yellow on the left with a lot of depth. Well Done, a great shoot in my eye .
BTW it would de interesting to se you experiment with X-Pan for vertical shoots.
Fantastic video!!!! Great shots!!!
IMO, on the first location I like the non-polarized shot. It is more natural. And the 90mm of the field oak is wonderful!
