I tell myself over and over not to watch your videos. Because it only makes me realize how far I have yet to go. But I always watch. Always. And I leave in awe and discouraged at the same time. 😂. Mostly in awe. And inspired to keep sharing images of the American Midwest and to hopefully someday put together something as beautiful as this
Also a midwest photographer here that got discouraged and put the personal camera away and just focused on work (sports photographer) for years. Landscape is my favorite and I have decided to invest in myself once more. Don't be discouraged...use it as encouragement to continue to strive!
Tom, I remember watching your videos growing up and being constantly inspired by your content. I used to spend all my time thinking, planning and living photography - and you were a massive reason for this. As I’ve grown up and become more busy, photography has started to take a back seat in my life. However in the last year this passion has started to come back. I watch your videos every week and feel excited and in awe of your art. I rarely comment on a video, however I felt compelled to comment here as these images are simply incredible. As I was watching I started to think about the value these images hold. Not just as art, but as a representation of your dedication and persistence over the years. I guess the point of my comment is to say never underestimate your value, the success you have is well deserved.
Winter is my favourite season to get the camera out - so many Pros using a lack of inspiration as clickbait on YT, whilst knowing exactly how they will end their film. Time is precious and I really don't feel that mine has been wasted by watching you.
I think this is the best video I have watched of yours, I love the pace, the peace and the way the photography seems to speak for itself more. What a smashing start to 2025
Over the years, you have provided commentary on your settings and thought process while taking photos, but in recent videos I feel you are consistently putting more effort here. I feel there’s more depth in how you describe your approach, what caught your eye, how you simplified, etc. I enjoy hearing your insights, and I imagine it’s helpful for photographers of any level. We can more closely see the landscape through your mind, as well as through your lens.
Beautiful imagery Thomas. I could actually feel the chill! Difficult to choose a favourite but I'm very taken by the little outcrop of varied trees protruding out into the loch next to the narrow road. Thank you for getting out there and doing your thing to bring us such delights!
Wow speechless! My wife generally doesn’t care for photography videos but I was watching this with my headphone and she had to pause what she was doing to start watching this with me. This is an all time classic. A reward for consistently going out and being there !!! You are in top form and the confidence to just take a coffee break casually in between 😊
Such an amazing sequence of top-class photographs, Tom. Sublime as always. What I found interesting was the before and after section at the end of the video. I would love to see a video of how you did that.
Such joy!! Conditions like these are rare, and you managed to make the most of it, not rushing into it! And it’s a big challenge not to let excitement take over, staying calm and composed. It allows for capturing images that stay true to the serene atmosphere of the moment! The video is the same! Anyway, it's one of my favorite videos! I have no money currently but on day i'll buy you one of them !
I just finished watching your video, and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for sharing such a magical day with us. The hoar frost transformed the landscape into a winter wonderland, and your ability to capture its beauty left me in awe. Your passion for photography and nature truly shines through in every frame. I've been a subscriber for some time now, and I have to say, this video is by far my favorite. Thank you for inspiring us to see the world through your lens and for reminding us of the simple, yet profound, beauty that surrounds us. Your work is a gift, and I am grateful for the moments of tranquility and wonder you bring into our lives.
Thomas…. I have been following and watching your videos for a long time. This by far for me was probably the most natural and breath taking images and scenery you have shown. Spot on as usual.
Just to reiterate what a lot of people have already said. The scenes and photos in this video are probably the best of seen on your page. Absolutely incredible. Words dont seem to do it justice. What a joy that must have been to experience ❤
Having such beautiful conditions is being lucky, but nailing such a series of awesome pictures from this is a combination of patience and talent! thanks for sharing, Thomas!
This video is sublime. You put such quality into your work (the shooting, editng and the music) that it is such a delight to unwind of an evening watching your videos.
Thomas, WOW, what an inspiring video. I always enjoy your videos, but this one truly spoke to me, you talking about the "stillness" of the world with that type of weather. The photographs you took during this outing are absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing and making some of the prints available for purchase.
Magical conditions and you absolutely nailed it with the images. Out of action with the back at the moment so really appreciate you sharing such a wonderful day. Thanks a million
We had similar conditions here in Germany (lower Bavaria) for 2 full days. It was so magical, more beautiful than just snow. It got me to take my camera and do a bit of landscape photography again while taking a long walk with my girlfriend. Love how the weather gets me back to the hobby which started me on photography (mostly doing weddings nowadays). Great video! Enjoyed every second of it. Happy new year from Germany! :)
I remember i watched a video recently where you said that you were in a bit of a creative funk. This is the best part of photography! You have a rough few months with nothing, and then that one day comes along and you become in love with it again! Amazing photos!
It's a beautiful thing when when words can't describe days like this. Thank you again for another amazing video. I love the journey because an image without a journey is empty, but a journey that is told by an image is what photography is all about. The journey is always greater than the image. The image is simply a visual manifestation of the journey it took to get that image. Thanks again for another great video.
Man, that drone look around sequence was such a delight! The whole area looked freaking surreal! Tons of great shots from this video, but I have to say my fav is the second one. Right side might be a bit messy, but boy oh boy, the whole frame looks magical!
I remember seeing similar conditions in a valley while traveling from Edinburgh to Carlisle once. I wanted to stop, but I don't think the other people on the bus would have been too happy to watch their conductor snapping away at 06.00. I remember the feeling of awe as if it was yesterday, it was fifty years ago. Loved your comment " you know". Showed a closeness with your viewers. Thanks for a great video.
Amazing, Tom! Those images are absolutely out of this world. They exude such calmness and serenity. I absolutely love them. You truly practiced "f8, and be there" 👍
Hi Thomas, Long time follower here since 2018. I was very keen in photography as a hobby and i enjoyed creating an image through my DSLR. It went nice for two years then all of a sudden i lost interest in it. I still didn't get that motivation to take my DSLR back and start taking pictures. Its really hard to keep motivation in this field. I'm really impressed with your integrity.
What a stellar day you had! Thanks for taking us along. The Jetty to Nowhere, has to be my favorite, though that's quite difficult with a platter of offerings! We'll keep watching over your shoulder from the Rocky Mountains, here in Montana, USA! Happy New Year Thomas!
If you have enough images for a book just on this outing put me on the buyers list. Simply gorgeous pics. And one of your best videos ever. Well worth the long drive. Thanks so much.
This is one of your best ever videos Tom. I was carried along on this journey of wonderful conditions, excellent commentary and superb photography. Nothing more to say really except thank you for letting us join you. 🙏
Your 'be there' advice can really be applied to anything, as it should. The other day I was really struggling to get myself to the gym, but the moment I arrived I was very happy I did and had a great time. So yeah, usually 'just do it' is the right approach.
Amazing content, probably the best I've seen on YT for a long time, your genuine owe of the day comes through to anyone that could imagine being in that scenario. Looking forward to more videos in 2025.
It’s not only the images. Of course they are excellent! It’s about your motivational words to make us joining your journey in photography - and I have to admit: seeing your Hasselblad in action shows some effect. Damm you Hasselblad for sponsoring all these gifted photographers…
What can you say! Amazing conditions, however you still have the skills to spot them coming and are able to make the absolute most of them. Will now be finding the best spot (and frame) to show one of these beauties off. Happy to support you!
What a fabulous first video to start the new year Tom, the images were simply sublime. I suspect with the current weekend forecast you’ll be out filling your boots once again
Love your inspiring videos, your way of telling your stories in that calm and peaceful way of yours, and I love most of your images! However, THERE you really created some outstanding images - congratulations and thank you!
Tom, I am a Brit that lives in a part of California where the temperature very rarely drops to freezing and with close proximity to the Pacific Ocean we may get fog but never a frost like what you spent new years day in. The memories this video brought back to me of being out with a camera on a frosty morning were almost overwhelming. I am so glad that you are selling prints.
I have been watching your videos for a number of years and these images are definitely some of your best. Love your work and you are inspiring me to do some proper landscape images. Thanks.
Stunning conditions and images. I’m always amazed how so many photographers seem to just know where to go e.g. one place for the fence and another for the distant trees!
Another brilliant video Tom! And I feel that same rush when it snows/frosts here in the UK. I used to take it for granted living in Canada, but here it feels a rare moment. Loved the photos, loved how you showed your editing as I was curious about that.
I’m not a photographer but watch your videos just to see your travels and enjoy your journey. But I must say the photos captured in this were absolutely stunning. The one at 16.50 was incredible. Some times getting off the couch or out your bed is the hardest part. But as you say it’s not laziness, it’s just all to easy to talk yourself out of going and making the effort. And just maybe it will be this kind of day that lies ahead. But if you don’t go you won’t know. Brilliant
Here in the Black Hills of South Dakota, USA, we get 3 or 4 days like this a year and its simply unimaginably peaceful, beautiful and fulfilling. Great vid man
An inspiring video as always and such wonderful shots. Thanks for including my behind the scenes post from the 617 club! My 12 year old son had a meltdown when he saw that!
Fabulous image captures Thomas. The best Ive seen in many years. In particular the last few images of the trees across the water stood out to me. A real inspiration to get out there.
I'm jealous. What a day you must have had. Absolutely beautiful! Can you imagine if you had stayed home and another photographer told you about what had happened.
go to this spot regularly and when you get the right conditions it's breathtaking I have never thought of having the peir go across the frame stunning photos
That panorama at 16:52 is one of the most beautiful images I’ve seen you ever take. And that’s saying something. Superb.
I agree!
The raw beauty of an almost monochromatic image, and the peacefulness it purveys left me in tears.
Absolute gobsmacked!
I tell myself over and over not to watch your videos. Because it only makes me realize how far I have yet to go. But I always watch. Always. And I leave in awe and discouraged at the same time. 😂. Mostly in awe. And inspired to keep sharing images of the American Midwest and to hopefully someday put together something as beautiful as this
You are on the path to being a photographer. We all have a ways to go! And inspiration is at the heart of how we think.
Also a midwest photographer here that got discouraged and put the personal camera away and just focused on work (sports photographer) for years. Landscape is my favorite and I have decided to invest in myself once more. Don't be discouraged...use it as encouragement to continue to strive!
Comparison is the thief of joy… just enjoy the process and you’ll get there 💜
Honestly, if you were here, you would have made just as many nice images. Photography is a lot about the conditions. 👍
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto thanks! I needed that! You are the best!
in that collection there are two or three absolute masterpieces. the one of the distant trees with the jetty and rock is sublime, would win awards.
that is my favorite too.
It's all pretty passe', not his best work and he knows it you can hear it in his voice. But hey if you think so you should absolutely buy one.

On point. It's soothing and worth the time.
I think this is the best video I have watched of yours, I love the pace, the peace and the way the photography seems to speak for itself more. What a smashing start to 2025
YES! Your comment is right on the money. Such a peaceful journey. Stellar way to start the year off!!!

This is true for me as well! I appreciate the walk-throughs.
What a day and what stunning images Thomas. Thank you so much for taking us with you.
I'm quite certain these photos are among the best of your career. I’m honestly lost for words-they’re absolutely astounding. Congratulations, Tom!
I can’t find the words to describe such conditions... and photos! Congratulations, Thomas.
Passe'?

Thanks a ton Mr. Heaton for deciding to take that drive. The photos you captured, as a result of that decision, are, well, Delicious!
That was a pleasure to watch. THANK YOU.

Absolutely epic! What a privilege and reward for rolling the dice and driving out there.
This might be one of your best my friend! This is one of the most beautiful compositions I've ever seen.
Best video yet. I love to watch someone doing what they love to do. You are a natural.
This video is sublime. You put such quality into your work (the shooting, editng and the music) that it is such a delight to unwind of an evening watching your videos.

Love to hear that your backing your work and less adds. Printing photos is amazing and brings another layer of beauty
Magical conditions and you absolutely nailed it with the images. Out of action with the back at the moment so really appreciate you sharing such a wonderful day. Thanks a million
Winter in the Highlands is absolutely magical! Great footage as always 😊
Well, that was totally awesome. Loved being along for the journey. I was actually excited for you with those conditions. Wow.

Great advice ... get up and go ... might just be your f8 (pronounced FATE!). 23 minutes of pure delight!! Thanks for sharing your joy.
Frost and fog, natures gift! Beautiful images and prints! Have a fantastic 2025 Thom, cheers!

Absolutely Stunnin, as you would say Thomas! I think you are headed in the right direction! Keep it up, and happy new year From Colorado.

Me too!
Thanks for the inspiration. These are possibly the best images you've included in a vlog.
This is one of your best ever videos Tom. I was carried along on this journey of wonderful conditions, excellent commentary and superb photography. Nothing more to say really except thank you for letting us join you. 🙏
Never comment on your videos but OMGOSH! Speechless, breath taking. We are all glad that you got out of the house and drove those 3.5 hours. WOW!!!
Don't ever thank me for my patience, it's an absolute privilege to see your work. Cheers.
The King of You Tube Photography. My first go to every time …
These have to be some of the most beautiful landscape images I've seen in years. Incredible work, Thomas.
WOW! Those are all incredible!

Love the pacing of this one, and the really encouraging notes about just getting out there. The rationalisation is pretty cool - thanks
What a fantastic day you had, and produced some exceptional images to boot. Lovely stuff. Incredibly inspiring as always. 🙏
One of the best days, looking at your images, and then you get to print them out, what a stunning day you must have had. Compliments to the chef.
This is how great photography is done! Beautiful work. Thank you for posting.
As Sam Abell says "Bad Weather Makes Good Pictures". I love days like this. Good on you for capturing some brilliant winter images.
To quote a very wise man, it's absolutely stunning! I look forward to purchasing one or more prints. As always, great work. Cheers!!

Absolute masterpieces! Your work always makes my day, and inspire me so much. Thank you for that, Thomas.
There is such an elegance to winter scenes. The monotones bring out the textures and patterns so beautifully. I love the "Winter Trees" panorama.
Looking at these photos, I felt the dampness and cold of winter. Absolutely brilliant !!!
Absolutely gorgeous pics! Magical weather.
love the segments where it’s just music! i found myself transfixed! the rhythm of the editing and music fits so well together
What a fabulous first video to start the new year Tom, the images were simply sublime. I suspect with the current weekend forecast you’ll be out filling your boots once again
Second shot. I think my favourite of your photography so far!
Love your inspiring videos, your way of telling your stories in that calm and peaceful way of yours, and I love most of your images! However, THERE you really created some outstanding images - congratulations and thank you!

As a resident of Kinlochard, you've done us proud :)
The weather was amazing like that for several days, here's hoping for more.
Amazing to se the calmness in you Tom during the yeti fotage! Lovely images and story telling throughout the whole video.

It’s incredible how nature provides us with opportunities like this. All stunning images Thomas! A great day for landscape photography!
Love the mood of calm photography you are able to portray in your videos!
Here in the Black Hills of South Dakota, USA, we get 3 or 4 days like this a year and its simply unimaginably peaceful, beautiful and fulfilling. Great vid man
Thomas these photos are my all time favorites. Fantastic decision to get up and get out.
An inspiring video as always and such wonderful shots. Thanks for including my behind the scenes post from the 617 club! My 12 year old son had a meltdown when he saw that!
What a mystical and ethereal day. That mist is just spectacular and gives the perfect atmosphere to wintery images. Well done!
Thank you for taking us along on such a fantastic landscape photography experience. Awesome images. Happy New Year!
The pano about 2/3 the ways through is just stunning! What a shot!
Your videos are so peaceful, calming, and inspirational….. excellent work Thomas!
That's one heck of a way to kick off the new year. Really nice conditions and even better images. Well done Tom.
Fabulous image captures Thomas. The best Ive seen in many years. In particular the last few images of the trees across the water stood out to me. A real inspiration to get out there.
Absolutely magical images! Especially love the pano of the reflected frosted trees! Bravo!
Wow thanks so much Thomas, love your enthusiasm and passion and excellent presentation. Image at 19:14 a stunner. All the best for 2025.
The images had a wonderful ethereal feeling, half way between infrared and black and white. Somber, peaceful, yet inviting.
What a beautifully-fantastically-awesome conditions and of course shots! It's really the gift for photographer's hard work!
I love the commentary about ‘what was the thing that caught my attention’. Such great advice
These images are magical. Thank you for getting out to photograph the magic.
Stunning pictures, Tom. 👍. Very glad you made the effort to “be there”, made these wonderful images and shared the story with us. Thank you.
What a day you had!
I'm jealous. What a day you must have had. Absolutely beautiful! Can you imagine if you had stayed home and another photographer told you about what had happened.
Wow great. Been following you for 2 or 3 years now. Growing with...3 and a half hours... Exactly. GoGoGo
What conditions! That second image is spectacular (book worthy). The reflections and the sheer 'calm' ...holy cow!
go to this spot regularly and when you get the right conditions it's breathtaking I have never thought of having the peir go across the frame stunning photos
You really got some gems 💎 there. Incredible conditions. Congratulations on putting yourself THERE. Obviously it was well worth it.
