    Have they removed the ability to lock your door from this? I just got a Yale Nest lock and it shows up in the Google Home app, but only lets me control it from the Nest app. The lock doesn't even show up in my home hub.

    Is it suitable for people with vissual disabilities like me? Obviously I can make a quick Google search on it, but, for example: Can it read continually a full web article out loud after showing it or just gives visual and short-spoken responses? Rather it should work that way, it’s a voice enabled Google device

    I just got one of these and I’m trying to figure out how to get it to show the guest wifi name and code on screen for when after COVID gatherings can resume. I’m probably just missing something easy.

    I just ordered the Nest Hello Doorbell and a Nest Outdoor Cam for my garage. What happens when motion is detected on both the outdoor cam and doorbell? Will the live feed pop up and alert you when motion is detected, or is it just when someone rings the doorbell?

    • @Moderndad
      @Moderndad  5 лет назад

      That's a good question - I believe the doorbell is the only one that pushes video to the Google Home Hub. Not cameras.

    • @Moderndad

      Nope. This actually is running a modified version of Chromecast software. There's no real OS to load apps or anything. You'll connect other services through the Google Home app. (Vivint is on that list, though.)

    Last night I asked my hub to play Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. It played a RUclips video of the first song then tried to play one of the second song, which anyone who knows the album knows the first song leads into the second without a break. This didn't happen.
    I then asked it to play the same thing from my library. Still went to RUclips. Tried a third time, specifying my Google music library. Same result.
    If I ask one of my home minis, it works fine.
    Any ideas?

      Marcus Dickinson every major retailer was selling them for $100 and Lowes had a $25 off coupon code so it came up at $75. There is a website called brickseeker and it tells the quantity and prices at major retailers. I was looking at what was the lowest price on the Google Home and it said a couple stores in Florida had it at $50 on clearance. There were several that have them for $60 and $75 as well.

    Can you do a comparison with the Lenovo, but skip the obvious stuff like screen size? I'm more interested in seeing a direct comparison of how the UI's might be different and any difference in functionality given the Home Hub doesn't actually run the same software as the Lenovo.

    • @Moderndad
      @Moderndad  5 лет назад

      The UIs are not different. They're now running the same software. I *think* maybe the Home Hub shows photos just a tad different? But otherwise, it's almost 1:1.

    Do you know if Amazon will ever improve integration of Alexa and Nest doorbell? We have Alexa throughout our home, and Nest doorbell. While I can ask Alexa to show me video feed from the doorbell (or any of my Nest cams) I'd really like it to automatically show the camera when the door bell is rung. I have one Google mini because of their integration with Nest doorbell. I really like the announcement feature when someone rings the doorbell. Mine also works pretty well with the facial recongition and does a decent job recongizing who is at the door and includes the name in the announcement.
    I'd love to see video when someone rings the doorbell and it looks like the Google Hub does that. I'd love if Alexa did, but I can't find if Alexa will ever enable it. I'll likely make a purchase of the Hub sometime soon if I can't find out if Alexa will. Hence I'm asking here for your thoughts on it and anyone else's.
    Love your videos and reviews!

      Far from it. Especially when it can't run Android apps. It can run Google Assistant apps, and its main interface is voice, with a touch screen UI. Plus now it can run interactive canvas apps, which are basically integrated voice web apps (HTML5, JavaScript, CSS).

      The Google Assistant voice apps and games will go away in June according to 9to5Google, and for me as a person with visual disabilities, it’s a big pity; I’m not gonna be able to play games, hear the news of some sites and many of that cool stuff. What’s next? Only vissual interaction and short spoken responces? This is not what I expect, 3 years ago Google Assistant was the best voice assistant out there, but now at least here in Mexico I find Alexa a step forward, faster to respond, more conversational and with great and detail spoken information when it comes about reading WEB data, playing voice reminders, and using the skills and the games, currently Google Assistant can’t do half of these things orally, and nobody talks about it, nor even the bast majority of comparisons and reviews I’ve seen involving Google Assistant
