I really love the Google Home Hub. This review is the only in depth one on RUclips. I usually only watch your smart home videos, since I find those most useful to me. I really like how on the Google Home Hub, if you have RUclips TV, you can watch TV straight from the display. Also, I like how it displays your timers. There is no hub built into the Lenovo. Each smart device will need to correct directly to WiFi or have it's own hub. Sadly, the Ring cameras are not supported.

Quick question. I'm thinking about installing google home in my parrents summer house, mainly so they can control lights and temperatures when they are not there and I'm just woundering if it can - and how easy it would - be turned this into a dashboard of sorts? Like something to put just inside the main door that they can see time on, controll all the lights easily (for example having all rooms show up and/or hue lighting profiles), see inside and outside temperatures and such, all on one main screen. It wouldn't really be used for calls, streaming or even really play music, just a first display when they enter the home to check on and control the house. Thanks
Thanks for the informative video! I only have one major complaint with Google devices, and that's the volume control. You can't separate out the voice volume and the music volume. If you turn the volume up to listen to music, then the next time GA speaks you end up with this booming voice!
You mention media alarms, but I can't seem to get them to work with the hub (even though they work fine will regular google home). Any ideas? One workaround was using routines, but then I lose the snooze functionality.
Honest question: Could a tablet basically do the same thing and more?? I was waiting to buy this for the longest time but I honestly rather spend an extra $100-200 and get a actually tablet that could do much more.
Great question and something I need to cover more in depth. Yes a tablet can do all this and more. The biggest thing a tablet lacks is being always available, meaning your tablet will mostly need to be charged, is stored in a case somewhere or just doesn't hear your Ok Google to activate. Some of the Google Assistant responses may show up different but it should be a similar experience.
I actually LIKE that this is a limited device. I don't want to be tempted to access social media, email, work, or surf the web when I'm in bed. I have two tablets and an iPhone, and more TV's than two human beings need. It's not an all-or-nothing proposition. It's right-sizing.

14:20 nice reading list Brett !
kind of ironic that you are viewing it on a Google device tho LOL
especially this one !
It's the free book Google gave me when Audio books came out. Lol.
the device has a beautiful design ,i like it but i feel like this device is wasted hardware crippled by limited software , with 2 physical design flaws too
I saw a teardown of the GH mini and was kind of shocked to learn that it uses 4 GB of RAM !
that is a a lot of ram, more than just about all android tablets even have , now i bet this device has at least 4GB and probably more , maybe 6 or 8 GB , a beautiful display too but i'm not sure about the processor SOC CPU GPU specs but i could see them being a good enough to be used in tablet mode if they had made the screen detachable from the base, i mean amazon has done it for cheaper but with no speaker in the base
with their fire HD 8 and shoe mode dock , which will be $80 on BF ,i feel like Google could have devlivered this same device for the same price buy have the screen be removable and function as a full fledged wifi only android tablet like a fire HD 8 and that amazong could have offered a show mode dosck with a speaker for a similar price
but Amazon has the fire HD 8 with show mode and sho mode dock on sale for less than this $100 BF price
so too bad Google didn't make this basically an android tablet with a GH show mode equivalent function , if this thing had a camera if only a front facing camera and was able to be lifted off of the dock it would must buy ,or even if it ran android an dwa snot detachable , i like the design a lot but i feel like it is a lot of pretty hardware that could have been used better and is just going to waste , so much nicer looking than the echo show 1st or 2nd gen or even a fire HD 8 or 10 with shoe mode dock
i think i will wait to buy either one ,i have a new fire HD 10 but i probably won't get the show mode dock for that either since it adds too much bulk and i can use a non charging dock and still do show mode, i find it strange that Amazon just didn't put charge contacts built into the tablet instead of having to have that charge plate that plugs into the USB on the tablet that adds needless bulk to the device just to uss the show mode charge dock
