Shame, The Last Of The Donk Verts. Abandoned Project 1975 Caprice Classic Convertible Junkyard Find

  • Now this is a real shame to see in the junkyard. Someone junked a 1975 Chevy Caprice Classic Convertible that literally looked like it was a hot battery away from driving out of the junkyard. Well it may have needed a little more like air in the tires as well as some gas but not much more. 75 was also the last year of the convertible in the GM B body line and there weren't many Caprice Classic Convertibles made that year as well. This one was obviously someone's project that ultimately never got to be finished. It was left in primer and there were body working supplies still in the truck from years prior. The interior while weathered, looked to have had some upholstery work. It power windows, locks, trunk release, as well as a tilt steering column. It also had a power bench seat. under the hood reside a very well preserved 400 Chevy small block with new or reman parts. I bet there was nothing wrong with it. The only rust I could see was in the lower quarter panels and the rear floor boards. Other than those spots this one solid car. There were even new tires on it. I inquired about possibly purchasing the entire car but not such luck. It's being parted out and soon will meet the crusher. A real shame I tell you as I lay 8,349 1975 Caprice Classic Convertibles were made. This one didn't deserve this ending.

    Whoa Nelley, 1975 and soon to not be alive. What a shame, I agree. Yes, I believe that's an optional cluster in that year. Yes, 1975 was the last year for the "B" body convertible. Yup, about 8,350 of them made for 1975.
    We got the VIN, we win: 1 for Chevrolet, N for Caprice Classic, 67 for two door convertible, U for 400 V8 with four barrel, 5 for 1975 model year, S for St. Louis, MO assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The St. Louis plant would have produced Corvettes at this time and after June 1, 1981, when production moved to Bowling Green, KY for the Corvette (where it is still assembled today), the plant assembled mostly trucks until it closed in 1986. Yes, that is a "production" rebuilt ("spray and pray") carburetor.
    We got the tag, we can brag: ST75 for 1975 model year, 1BN67 for Chevrolet (1) Caprice Classic (N) two door convertible (67), STL for St. Louis, MO assembly, 11W for White vinyl interior trim, A52 for front bench seat, 11 for Antique White lower exterior paint, R for Red convertible top, 01C for the third week of January 1975 production, possible B96 for exterior bright wheel opening moldings. So, I think it was white originally with a white interior and red top. Probably was a sharp car when it was new. Bright Yellow would have been code 56 exterior paint which I do not see on the tag.
    Whoa Nelley, Division 1 and it's done. 400 and gotta go. Spray and pray and you're on your way. That's it, time to quit. B body looking very shoddy. Chevy looking kinda heavy. Going to be flat, and that's that. Made in St. Louie and soon to be chop suey. Wearing some fake spokes and that's all folks. Lots of junk in the trunk. Going to get squished and the B body faithful, surely Benny, many here, and yup, the Google Man for sure are going to be very, very, very, very, very, very pissed.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp Год назад +3

      One correction: WA4642 is the equivalent of code 51 "Bright Yellow" exterior paint, so it was yellow originally. The 11 next to it should denote a white convertible top. So it was yellow with a white top originally. The use of the "WA" number for the paint code is very unique for 1975, as the "WA" numbers would appear later on SPID labels in the 1980s and up.

      It really isn't. These full-size GM's got this new bigger platform in 1971 and didn't have very much in common with the 70-down cars. Different suspensions front & rear, different steering up front. Wider, longer, etc... The wheels don't even interchange from a 70-down Chevy. Cross flow radiators rather than the vertical flow previously used.
