    Whoa Nelley, 1985 and took a nosedive. My dad sold these new and I do recall him selling a few of them. Yes, they were rare and 1984-1985 Eldorado convertibles were done by American Sunroof. 1979-1983 models were often done by Hess & Eisenhardt, among others. 1984-1985 models were "official" convertibles in that they were a factory authorized option.
    We got the VIN, we win: 1G6 for US made Cadillac, EL67 for Eldorado convertible, 8 for 4.1L (252 CID) V8 with DFI, aka RPO code "LT8", aka "1-2 punch and out to lunch" aka "I hear you knocking", 8 is a check digit, F for the 1985 model year, E for Linden, NJ assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Linden plant closed in 2005, and last assembled S,T Series trucks. My grandfather's friend worked there and may have assembled this car. The RPO code "LT8" 4.1L HT4100 was a black eye for GM and made many Cadillac buyers import owners for life. The intake manifold gasket would blow sending a soupy mix of coolant and oil through the engine, fouling the bottom end and wiping out the engine and often the car itself (by exceeding the value to repair it). That under hood decal is for the cooling pellet campaign, aka 'Horse Pills" as they were called at GM dealer service departments.
    We got the SPID, glad you did: AG2 for front split bench seat, power, AM6 for three passenger split front bench seat, AR6 for front restraint system, AU4 for automatically activated power door locks, A81 for power reclining front passenger seat, BF2 for deluxe front floor covering, BY1 for exterior ornamentation, B48 for deluxe luggage compartment trim, B53 and B54 for front and rear deluxe carpeted floor mats, B84 for exterior side moldings, B85 for belt reveal moldings, B93 for door edge guards, B96 for wheel opening moldings, CA2 for soft roof trim delete, C05 for folding convertible roof, C49 for rear window defogger, C68 for automatic temperature control, C97 for courtesy lamps, DC3 for electric remote mirrors with heating, DD8 for auto sensing interior day/night mirror, tilting, DY5 for decklid striping, D64 for RH interior illuminated vanity mirror, D74 for LH illuminated vanity mirror, FK2 for left torsion bar adjusting, F57 for 3.15 final drive ratio, K19 for Air Injection Reactor system, K34 for cruise control, LIN for Linden, NJ assembly, LT8 for 4.1L V8 with DFI, MX0 for automatic transmission merchandising option, M57 for THM325-4L four speed automatic overdrive transmission, NA5 for Federal emissions, N30 for deluxe steering wheel, N37 for tilt and telescoping steering column, N91 for simulated locking wire wheel covers, QHK is a tire code, T82 for automatic headlight control, UA6 for theft deterrent system, UB8 for "C" high note horn, UM7 for AM-FM stereo with clock, U02 for digital instrument cluster, U66 for four speaker stereo system, U75 for chrome power antenna, VK3 for front license plate bracket, V73 for US/Canada vehicle statement, V4C for Eldorado sales package, YL0 for high impedance speakers, YL2 for Firemist exterior paint, YP8 for merchandised special edition, YR1 for front custom seat, YS1 for rear custom seat, all of the 11 codes are for white trim (interior leather, convertible top (so that appears to have been changed), the 27 codes are for blue accent interior trim, 90L/90U for Medium Blue Metallic lower and upper exterior paint (aka WA3967), and DIS. LACQUER for dispersion lacquer paint technology.
    Whoa Nelley, Biarritz lost the glitz. LT8 was never great. That's it, time to quit. Cadillac ain't worth jack. Front wheel drive and you can't save its' hide. Last ride in a Cadu and it's over for you. Painted medium blue and it's through. Going to be flat and that's that. RPO M57 is going to Heaven. Please don't get squished because many here and the Google Man for at least nostalgia's sake are all going to be very, very, very pissed.

      Hahaha! I had an ‘84 Eldo with the 4100. Beautiful car, but I knew even back in ‘94 , that they were a ticking time bomb. Ran beautiful while I owned it. I sold it to a neighbor, and a week later she came knocking on the door saying the engine went and she wanted her money back! I honestly had no issues or knew of any with this particular car. I felt bad for her, so I gave her $800 back towards a rebuild. Not sure if she did or not….

He bought a 1979 10th Anniversary 400/4 speed Trans Am that didn't turn out to be what he expected (even after I warned him after talking to the Ebay seller on his behalf). Long story short, he sold it to a Secret Service agent who drove it back to GA where he lived from MA where my friend was. The engine blew up on the way home. He called my friend and the buyer understood that he bought an "as-is" used car, but my friend felt bad and gave him the profit he made on the vehicle. He just about broke even. He still doesn't like to talk about it to this day and it was easily nearly 20 years ago now.

      @@kennethsouthard6042 Yes, they have a "67" in the VIN just like the Eldorado. That makes it a factory convertible along with the codes on the SPID.

    Just sad to see an 85 Eldo like this one going for parts. That one should still be on the road. Its salvagable like it is especially as rare as it is. A convertible! No rust or rot! What a darn shame Benny.

      You had to get a 1979-1980 Riviera or Toronado to get that engine, the 350 CID V8, VIN code "R", Oldsmobile produced. The Cadillac engines used during those years in the Eldorado were Oldsmobile derived, Cadillac marketed (referring to the 350 CID V8s).

    I thought that the biarritz meant that it had a stainless roof panel. Was this an options package, not just the stainless roof panel?

      No, the Biarritz meant it was an upscale model of Eldorado, and yes, a convertible could be one.

    Bahahaha 2200 made that is a low production number,especially for GM ,speaking about 2200 ,i ended up with the pre production Daewoo Leganza, Black & White edition that only 2200 was made for only the S Korean market in 2002 & 1100 was white with black trim & 1100 was black with white trim accents, mine was the original mockup with the bigger Holden produced 2.2 motor instead of the 1.8 liter engine, it has factory color keyed grille ,headlights & front ,rear & side airdams & a trunk & quarter panels with built in body spoiler ,mine came with a 2 tone leather interior including real 2 tone leather door panels, the production models was vinyl, they originally used my vehicle for the actual motor shows & road testing before i ended up with it ,& a few other vehicles, still got them

      My 1979 10th Anniversary Trans Am is one of 1,817 made with the 400 Pontiac V8 and four speed manual transmission out of 7500 cars. That was rare in 1979 and even rarer today.

    Well that's a surprise. When my dad passed in 98 he left me his 85 Eldy Biarritz rag top. I didn't know only 2200 were built.
    It's not going anywhere. It's in my small collection until I leave it for my daughters. *THEY CAN SELL IT!*

      1989 was a smaller car. The Eldorado shrunk for the 1986 model year and production moved from Linden NJ in 1985 to Hamtramck, MI (aka "D-Ham) for the 1986 model year.

    That car is almost mint. I say "almost" because of that deck lid, the grill damadge, and the missing tail light, all if which can be fixed or replaced.
    I wonder if the damadge was done at the junkyard🤔
    Convertable...hmmm...I actually own a convertable (not a cadillac) and driving it on scorching heat☀️🥵 can be a challenge.

    I owned 2 of those convertibles... fabulous riding cars and with the top down just beautiful--- very expensive when new--- the handicap on these was the engine--- under powered, and not at all durable.

    These came with the 4100 engine. These have a bad reputation (weak castings, pulled engine bolts and more..) Might be th reason it ended up where you found it 🤷‍♂️

      The actual problem is the dissimilar metals used and the sealing technology. The intake manifold gasket tends to blow and eventually a mix of coolant and oil get circulated throughout the engine and that wipes out the bottom end totaling the engine and most times the car as by then the expense to repair exceeded the value. The 1984-1985 HT4100 engines were improved, but as I noted above, not by much over the 1982-1983 models.

      @@googleusergp My car buddy in the U.S. always warned me of the 4100 motor (for the reasons you explained) and sofar I managed to "buy arround these". The 429, 472 and 500 (and the later 4.9) are less hightech but much more durable.

    3:46, those NI Industries wheel cover keys are getting hard to find ,that's the green one ,I use to sell tons of them decades ago as well as the wire wheel covers & the brackets for the locks ,I still got a few of those keys & the actual lock bolts 🔩 & brackets, ,i still sell & handle those & sometimes I ship those to Japan & Korea for customers who fully restore those old Cadillacs & other old school GM vehicles, I use to directly sell those locks ,keys & wheel covers, they was made by Noris Industries in Virginia, but the factory is long gone & now a supermarket sits on the property, they also made wheelcovers in Novi Michigan as well .I also still got 1 of those wire wheel covers brand new in the box ,might hang it up as wall art & put a clock 🕤 in one of the center caps, got a bunch of those .. no wonder why someone took them ,a good clean set is worth good money

      No, never. Only the Riviera or the Toronado did. 1984 would have been an HT4100 gas V8 or a Olds 350 CID V8 diesel.

    I am kind of sad to see it die there. No its not a high dollar rig now but say twenty more years and this will break someones heart to see it in beer can material. A good LS engine plus upholstery would do a lot to make it a fine looking machine again.... I am questioning as to whether that odometer has rolled over or not. I wasn't paying attention or maybe I should just know.. that is a front wheel drive rig right?? Even the trunk lid can be fixed if not another acquired for a decent price. You probably have more projects than a bank account would allow for a repair and maybe get money back out of it rig. I live in alaska which just prohibits me from going for it and by now someones already taken many parts and pieces. I see a ride control pump system and wonder if those are able to be used in other project cars or not

      @@morgansword Sure. Please don't "LS swap" the world though. LOL. I would say this one should get if anything an Oldsmobile 307, 350 or an earlier Cadillac fuel injected engine from an earlier Eldorado. It would fit right in.

      I started making junkyard videos because at the time I started RUclips, not many people were doing it. I was already going to junkyards looking for parts so i figured id hit two birds with one stone. But like with all niches here on RUclips, eventually more and more people started to make junkyard videos. I get less views now but I still make them because as i mentioned before, I'm still going to the junkyard so might as well make a video and get paid. Plus I have a loyal group of subs that like these videos

      I double checked on the inside. It's definitely a convertible. You should be able to see when I showed the vanity mirrors in the video

      Not correct, this is a true convertible, confirmed by the "C05" on the SPID and the "67" in the VIN, both of which denote it to be a convertible. Additionally, the rear seat is narrower (which is a convertible exclusive), and the front seat belts on a non-convertible would be mounted to the roof and not behind the seats. This is a true factory Eldorado convertible, no doubt about it.
