  • This is an informational video on the Factory 85 Eldorado Biarritz Cadillac, describing it’s good points and it’s weak points and a lot of information learned over a lifetime. This is also a precursor video to an engine swap in a perfectly good running low mile car not that it is needed, but it is warranted… please follow the playlist that will be added as the work progresses.

    I think Wayne Kady is one of the best automotive designers in automotive history. This is a beautiful car and I am sure I’ll be beyond impressed with it, and learn quite a bit along the way.

      @@freddyhoyt1849 WOW, that's nice. A couple of friends had Eldo convertibles, I opted for the Riviera convertible, I put wires on it with vouge tires. I loved that car and enjoyed it to death, I only sold it a couple of years ago. I may be wrong but the 85 Eldo convertible is very special because they were actually factory made as opposed to the Rivs and Toronado that were done but ASC and Caddy only made something like 450 of them in 1985 and that was it. The rarest and most valuable one is the triple black one, they only made a coupe of them. Buick only sent out 1114 white Rivieras to ASC for a conversion and I forget how many red ones, I know the red was more rare.

    I misspoke on the RPO code. The V4C is cruise, YP8 is the convertible. Now V4U is the commemorative edition 85 rpo.

    You don’t like the HT 4100? Ha ha. Oh I remember as a young man 3 different people who bought new Cadillac 4100s and all I heard was no passing power, GM pellets and trouble. Terrible engines. Buicks Electra V6 at that time was better and more powerful. I do like the styling however. But I’d never buy with this engine.

    Sup Matt, she’s a beauty! I have an 84 Biarritz in the Tan color it came in back in the day. It was my grandad’s. So I’m the second owner. The exterior & interior are in great shape for its age. She still runs, but could definitely use some work under the hood. It’s been a bit of a challenge finding a mechanic that knows these cars in the Dallas area. Do you by chance know of any shops down this way or websites for parts?

    I have the 1984 Eldorado Biarritz Coupe. She is Banana Cream with the stainless steel roof with rear landau. Yellow leather interior. I am going with the Olds 307 swaption. I would love to see the 403 go into this car. I heard the transmissions wont handle the extra horse power well. How are you going to mitigate that?

    My grandma bought an '84 new. After she died, then my dad died, I had it from 1992 to 2002. Getting rid of it is one of my biggest car-related regrets. I ran a CarFax on the VIN a few years ago and it went to the crusher. :(

    I agree about the HT 4100. I owned an 84 Edoardo Biarritz hard top. My wife and I drove it from Southern California to the Bay area and back, at which point the engine decided to destroy itself with only 53,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, a replacement engine cost more than the car was worth in 1996.

    My mom had a 1984 Fleetwood Brougham Coupe with that engine and I literally could run faster from our driveway to the end of the street which was less than an 1/8 of a mile. Now once it got to 30 or 40 mph it was still slow but could maintain highway speeds okay without downshifting constantly. Remember the speed limit was 55 mph so 69-65 was not a strain. Nowadays with 70 mph limits and traffic at closer to 80 mph it would struggle to keep up. Not sure the weight difference between a Brougham coupe and a Eldorado but I remember it was SLOW . My Dad said it would not pull a greasy string from a cat’s a$$. Sorry for the language but I always thought that was a good indicator of that car’s power.

    Please excuse me... but I made it to where you are speaking about keeping your white walls white.
    Try to find a smooth rock that fits your hand and dish soap, and it will make those whites white!

    • @gm-classics
      @gm-classics  6 месяцев назад +1

      Will try… i have had some 200 cars with white walls, this brand is just a cheap tire and has a huge issue with this. We have dozens of others that dont do this and can be cleaned using bleach white and the usual method. But will try yours too on these!

    • @henrydelagarzaiii3161
      @henrydelagarzaiii3161 6 месяцев назад +1

      @gm-classics Well okay, here's my own steps. Bucket of warm water / smooth rock / dish soap... apply dish soap to dry/wet white wall, just using your fingers will do. Dip rock in bucket (keeping rock wet) and rub the white wall softly, and you will see the difference. Then wash tire as you normally do. Enjoy your new white walls.

    My '84 has the same white interior. You'll never find carpet like that again. This should be interesting watching you swap the engine. I don't know how many times I see that question come up on the Cadillac forum website where people want to swap out the HT4100. That was one of GM's worse mistakes putting that engine in the Fleetwood, Eldorado and Seville.

    Anything wrong with using a 79 El Dorado as the donor?

    • @gm-classics
      @gm-classics  6 месяцев назад +1

      Other than its efi is not good and will net little power…so if you want carbureted, you will need the carb intake, the quadrajet carb, all the linkage for that carb, the cruise system, the non electronic distributor, and a plethora of other things from the intake and up that say using a toro/riv 350 4bbl is a better way to go

    • @dang2015
      @dang2015 6 месяцев назад

      @@gm-classics That makes a lot of sense. I just got a 1979 El Do last week for an unbelievably cheap price. I'm not opposed to getting a 2nd donor car. I have an 85 convertible also, only reason why this swap project is even remotely worth it. Thanks for the reply!

    Take that rim off and take it to the Dayton Wire Wheels with the center cap and ask them to remake this rim brand new. Appliance is out of business now.
    I like the way that 225/70/15 Gallaxy White Wall Tire looks.

    • @gm-classics
      @gm-classics  6 месяцев назад +1

      It would be neat to see them remade but when they really only go on 79/85 eldo/toro/riv, its a very limited market. Tru-spoke remaked the rwd appliance wheel our of california for a while, we talked on this back then too but the limited use is the problem. A good option are the eldo alum touring wheels. With the right white wall, they look great too.

      Yea the 307 was better than the 4100 but still too weak. Ironically these cars are not heavy, they are about 3500, of which is less than most any new car including a bmw 3 series… the motors are just that weak!
