Whoa Nelley, 1982 and it's over for you. That vehicle doesn't belong there...unless there's some sort of paperwork problem or the bird cage is rotted away. Correct, this is not a Collector's Edition. The VIN would have an "07" and they didn't come in black, they were code 59 exterior paint (Silver Beige Metallic) with code 592 interior (Silver Beige leather interior). Yes, the valve covers are stock as others noted.
We got the VIN, we win: 1G1 for US made Chevrolet, A for manual seat belts, Y for Corvette, 87 for two door coupe, 8 for 5.7L (350 CID) V8 with Crossfire Injection, aka RPO code "L83", aka "Misfire Injection", 1 is a check digit, C for the 1982 model year, 5 for Bowling Green, KY assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Bowling Green KY facility has produced Corvettes since June 1, 1981 and during that same year, production at St. Louis was phased out and that plant made mostly trucks until it closed in 1986. It was originally a Frigidaire plant and then was converted for vehicle production by mid-1981. The 1982 Corvette mustered only about 200 HP (the same as a 1981 Turbo Trans Am, less than an '80 Turbo or a '79 Pontiac 400 equipped car) and the Cross Fire system was headache to most mechanics as most don't understand how they work. In the end, many got removed. My neighbor has an '82 Corvette that has been converted to a carburetor. His is rare---it's a Dark Blue Metallic (code 26) and only about 500 or so cars were painted that color.
No tag, can't brag, but easy to figure out, no doubt: C for 1982 model year, then a month and week code, 19L and 19U for Black lower and upper exterior paint, 67C or 74C for Dark Red Cloth interior trim (so those seats may be original or redone like the originals), "CHEVROLET" for Chevrolet vehicle, and E for Enamel based paint. The trim tag is in the driver's door jamb near the hinge. There were 2,357 black Corvettes for the 1982 model year out of 25,407 total cars made for the 1982 model year. There were 6,759 Collector's Editions.
Those wheels look goofy on that car, but yes, I know someone will buy them. I also don't like that hood. I would say that all of that was done when the car was fairly new and this car we know was roadworthy at least up until 2006 or so based on the sticker on the windshield. Who knows what laid it up.
Whoa Nelley, 'Vette was once a sure bet. Crossfire is just tired. That's it, time to quit. Code 19 and out of time. Made in Bowling Green and soon to exit the scene. 1982 and it's through. VIN code Y87 is going to Heaven. Going to be flat and that's that. "Plastic Fantastic" is soon to be put into the attic. RPO code "L83" and it's over for thee. Please don't get squished because all of the C3 and "Y" body (Corvette) faithful, many here, perhaps Benny and you betcha the Google Man are going to be very, very, very, very, very, very pissed.

Being a Texas vehicle, the frame, if not rusted, would be of value, but the body from what l can see has a lot of cracks in it.stress fractures in a Corvettes body make it not worth repairing for that model.

@googleusergp You could purchase one in excellent condition for less than even starting to repair this one.
I could have bought an 81 4 speed black for 12 thousand that had 14 thousand miles but I got laid off so there that went.

@@garymckee63 The later C3s are shunned by some of the Corvette folks, but I like them as they were (along with the F body cars), the "last of their breed". When Ford and AMC turned out the lights, GM kept it going with some degree of performance.

I'm not a vette person and will most likely never want one as Camaros are my preference but this is very sad to see . To me the hood is fugly, we have a pick your part here and they are sooo outrageous in prices and try and sell you stripped parts and want extra for every bracket or lense. I went with my brother in law a week ago to get a matching rim for his 2013 impala a factory alloy and they wanted $132 if we took off the shredded tire $177 with the useless shredded tire so I got on fb marketplace and found a whole set clean rims with usable tires for $150 he posted them for $200. I won't go back, I wanted a matching black right rear door for my 07 magnum wagon but they would want $350 if I kept everything on it incl the window I have her twin an 06 rt I'm waiting to start the LS swap in but I couldn't part out a fixable magnum wagon especially if she was black or red or I'd buy a blown up black magnum but they are porno to me like a 3rd Gen camaro
