Having lived in Nashville for 20+ years I have a few pros and cons to add. First off, there is no state income tax in Tennessee. Unfortunately the Nashville city council wants to raise our property taxes by 34%. If you are buying a home or condo, I would strongly suggest buying in Williamson, Sumner, or Wilson counties unless you don't mind paying higher property taxes. Nashville & Davidson County has a metropolitan government so you'll be assessed this increase (if it passes) regardless of where you live in the county.
If you suffer from spring & seasonal allergies, Nashville is one of the worst places to live in the U.S. Fortunately the healthcare is top notch so you can always seek treatment if you fall in this category.
Lastly, there are so many things to do with the many parks and other close weekend excursions you can enjoy. The city is also centrally located with Atlanta, Memphis, Louisville & Birmingham within a 3-4 hour drive. I really enjoy living here & thought I'd add to your list.

John thank you so much. Crazy what the council want to do isn’t it.

I live in Willianson co. We were lucky enough to buy 20 years ago before the housing cost spikes. We purchased at $149,000 today our home was valued at $475,000. 😮
As for allergies, 🤧 that is spot on! I used to work in an office, when someone would sneeze, we used to giggle and say “welcome to Tennessee” 😂 the docs are cleaning up.

Property taxes a lot better than Chicago and Minnesota the add up things like how large your patio is, and try tax your work shed/laundry room. North suburbs of Chicago property tax is like 40K average .

Thank you for sharing these helpful pros and cons! I have three followup questions: 1. Is it easier to rent an apartment in the suburbs of Nashville (say, Oak Hill, Brentwood) compared with downtown area? 2. Are tornadoes and floods a big concern for someone who has never experienced them before? How to choose an apartment that is tornado and flood proof? 3. Is traffic jam serious in Nashville? If I live in the suburbs and work in downtown, which side of Nashville is best to live to avoid traffic jam? Look forward to your videos that could address these concerns.

You could get by If your willing to room with someone when you get here to help cover rent. I live here and do lyft as my side job and I talk to a lot of people who did just that to get here. They searched for possible roommates or came with someone who also wanted to live here. Got an apt for rent and went job hunting. And if you have a 4 door car you could do what I do on the side. Do lyft or uber. I work only on the weekend and I bring in $300 easy. That alone will cover your side on rent. Apts run early $1,000- $1,400 for a small one. People here like anywhere else in cities are renting out rooms or taking in roommates to help with the pandemic setback. So finding a place to rent is really not so hard. And their are companies hiring. So their are ways to do it. U only need to get here and have at least 2 months worth of rent money. You can make it. Come down for a week and job and apt search. If you see it's not so hard to find stuff. Your good to go. Nashville itself is not expensive. Buying a home may be the issue. They sell almost as fast as they build them here right now.

I have a friend in Nashville that lives around Fang and I was looking to move in with him and his husband. I'm currently living in Palm Coast, FL and I hate it. The majority of jobs are retail and food service that don't pay a living wage. I make an average of $1,300/mo. and the cheapest apartment I've found starts at $1,400/mo. I'm disabled and am unable to drive. I mainly use a bike to get around and good sidewalks are just about everywhere. The problem is trying to cross at intersections. I've nearly been hit at least 6 times in the last month. People do not care about pedestrians or cyclists. I've had the crossing signal come on and people squeal their tires and burnout just to avoid having to wait 3 seconds for me to cross. A few nights ago I was on my way home from work. it was around 10:30pm and I get the walk signal, I start walking my bike across and a guy runs a red light and turns right in front of me. If I had been on my bike or been walking faster, he would have killed me.
There's still a lot I need to learn about the city but this was a good starting point to get some basic info; thanks.

@@marycaroldownton8590 I know how you feel completely Mary. I'm not from Nashville and someday, would love to visit, but I wouldn't move there to make things worse for the locals. I would want to live in a quieter town with not as much tourists myself, so I don't want to make things worse for the people that are from there and been there all their lives. I do appreciate southern hospitality but would never want to destroy a town by having too many people move there. Look at what happened to Atlanta, Las Vegas and all those boom towns. Now, they've all changed for the worst. Mary has a valid point that I have to agree with.

Fuck bro.... Thinking of leaving California, not ideal to raise my kids (4years old and 2) and one starting school next year, with all these liberal cities and their policies, I have a home where I could have about 250k in equity to put on a home but I'd want a home I can have paid off.
Is there any ideal ways I can buy a home for under 300k that's I'm an all right area? I currently live in the ghetto, and yeah my home is worth a shit ton. Idk why but yeah,

Number 1 con should be the influx of Democrat voters who have voted the cities they left into a unpayable debt cesspools and now bring their same voting patterns to The South. So for all the things you love about Nashville/The South, please please please don't bring your baggage with you. Bring an open mind and an ability to adapt and remember the reason Nashville is so great, is NOT because of Democrat values/systems.

It's not just the potholes. It's the lack of expansion and the traffic is a constant issue because we have no public transport other than some buses. No subways and no trains to get around. If someone honks their horn here at them, you get road rage shot or beat up, so don't be an impatient prick. TN does not plan ahead for the amount of people they're trying to squeeze in. I've been here my whole life, and I can tell you that native tennesseans are completely fed up with people moving here. It's really not all it's cracked up to be and the educational system is actually some of the worst outside if you aren't in Nashville or Franklin, but every city around here is overcrowded now and causing all natives to be more pissed off and ready to shoot or beat up aggressive drivers

People are nice, but can’t drive. The infrastructure is the worst I’ve ever seen, its getting overcrowded and the 1940’s infrastructure can’t handle the population, the rolling blackouts during winter are fun. This place is way overrated and I don’t see why people move here, the cost of living is going up every day so you really don’t save money, the southern hospitality is slowly going away as it gets overcrowded. The weather sucks here, it rains a lot and tornadoes are no joke here. This place is way overrated don’t move here.
