Really considering moving to Nashville, well outside of the city 30 minute drive or so. Also, trying to do this on a budget friendly basis. We would be coming from Oklahoma 🙂
Crap. This is really making me rethink my move next year.... I really appreciate all of the hard work you put into this video, thanks for the information!
I have found this very helpful. When you mentioned the transportation in Nashville, I want to bring up that I am an Uber and Lyft driver and have my own car.. when I was on vacation in Nashville, I did Lyft driving to help cover driver shortage.
Im currently looking at jobs and have an interview for one in Nashville, so this was a great help. When you mention the pot holes im like “have you lived in new york state?”. Which is where i live now
I have lived in NY. NY is waaaayyyy worse than Nashville when it comes to potholes. Plus there is a government website where you can report potholes in Nashville.
Looking to move from Spokane, Wa to Nashville probably and I found this video super helpful. My wife and I are going to visit Nashville to check it out more first! We also are looking at NC like you mentioned or SC.
Hello, I am moving to Nashville this summer (July). I will work on Dickson and I'm planning on living in West Nashville (Near Bellevue) my commute will be ~30-40 min. That is my plan for now, I'm still figuring things out. Any advice?
Good video! I grew up in Chicago and lived in LA the last few years. We just relocated to Nashville a little less than a year ago. Couple things to consider that may or may not have been mentioned in the video: 1. East Nashville. Love it. Super awesome food and coffee. But keep in mind that it’s an area that is still going through gentrification and I would compare it to other gritty but upscale neighborhood’s like Venice in LA (without the crazy homelessness) and Logan Square in Chicago. If you find a rental in East Nashville, especially a house, REALLY consider the surrounding streets/neighborhoods. Unless it is an income property, there is nearly zero reasons someone would rent vs sell their home in this market. Again, East Nashville is awesome but just know that you will be dealing with crime overspill from other areas and a grittier element overall. 2. Crime. Nashville is not a high crime city (outside of certain areas) but it is also not low crime either. I think a lot of people move here expecting Mayberry and are surprised to see that this is a real city with real problems like every other medium to large size city in the country. Nashville has the same population as Boston and Washington DC and is just behind Seattle. The metro area has another million people in it. This is not a small city. If you want Mayberry, go further south into Williamson County (Brentwood or Franklin). 3. If you are a transplant from a major city and if you have a healthy budget for a home, I highly suggest securing a rental in a good neighborhood and spend 3-6 months exploring the areas you think you want to buy in. My wife and I thought we would love Brentwood and hated it once we moved here. Luckily we secured a rental home in Green Hills and we were able to be very aggressive with seeing homes we were interested and just bought in our preferred area of Forest Hills. We were in the top two offers and competing with an out of state couple on the same house. Being local has its advantages. 4. Brentwood… I think this deserves it’s own number in the list because I have heard the same thing from many of the fellow transplants from other major cities. If you hate the suburbs, remove Brentwood from your list completely. It’s also the area with the best schools so competition is insane for any homes that go on the market in this neighborhood due to the number of families who need to get their kids enrolled. 5. Schools. We don’t have kids but I hear most Nashville schools are not the greatest. If you have kids and you need to send them to public school… You will probably want to move to Brentwood. You could move to Franklin but if you work and interact with Nashville regularly, you will have a rough commute every day. 6. Embrace Nashville. As a transplant myself, I make it a point to embrace the culture of this city and not try to change anything about it. There is a reason we left the cities we grew up in and we need to remind ourselves not to bring those problems with us. Definitely bring your tax dollars and support the local economy but leave your politics behind. After living here for a few years, if you still think you need to influence what is going on politically, you will be able to make a better contribution after being apart of things for awhile.
I would emphasize one other thing to clarify Items No. 3 and 4 for people who are unfamiliar with Nashville. Brentwood is the Nashville equivalent of Beverly Hills, California. It is a haven for entertainment stars and other incredibly wealthy people who often own homes that are more like palaces than a good-sized house. Nearby Franklin, Tennessee is not much different.
@@tracybrown9344 Brentwood is absolutely not the Beverly Hills of Nashville… if that title goes to any area it would absolutely be Belle Meade. Brentwood is the Los Angeles equivalent of the valley. If you are coming from LA, think Calabasas, Sherman Oaks, and other similar but affluent Valley neighborhoods. While there are plenty of wealthy people and celebrities that live in the valley as well, they would never claim it is similar or on the same level as Beverly Hills. Same goes for Brentwood, it’s a suburb town with cookie cutter McMansions in subdivisions. It’s plenty nice but it’s not Belle Meade, Oak Hill, or Forest Hills.
There’s no public transportation or sidewalks either. Nashville still has a very small town mentality even tho it’s one of the fastest growing cities. There’s also no Medicare, high sales tax, and a lot of litter. Citizens of TN also can’t even vote on bills which I didn’t know was a thing before moving here. Don’t recommend 😂😂
Just curious what the health care system is like there, I’m from Chicago and interested in moving to Nashville potentially,. I also have a heart condition so I’m apprehensive 😫 about leaving.
Hi, I'm working in Germany but want to move to Nashville. I'm wanting warm weather. Winter in Germany starts during the last weeks of September and first weeks in October. You will be wearing a jacket until end of April mid May. Then at the middle of June you get the Sheep cold. How is it in Nashville? In addition, please don't waste time telling me about the heat. I'm from Tampa Florida and "LOVE" have temperatures of 109°F and higher in the shade. I only hate the long cold winters in Germany.
I’m from Fort Lauderdale and this heat is nothing lol. The winters do get cold. But for the most part are very mild. There are days it’s 70 degrees and the next day it’s 20 degrees. Very little snow throughout the winter.
I'm also an expat American currently living in Europe giving Tennessee a deep look! Even though I've never been its the only state that checks all of the right boxes for me! Being a city guy (spent 5 years living in NYC in the 90s) Nashville is the obvious choice for me.
Hello. I am possibly moving to Nashville from Atlanta. I have a phone interview this week with a private school for a teaching/coaching job. The school is the South part of Nashville.
I’m from Indiana but I’ve lived in Chicago, San Diego, and a small island called Saipan. I was in the military and I got lucky and lived on a covid free island for 2 years. I’ve been looking into Nashville for awhile. Looking into the suburbs and definitely looking into Murfreesboro. My girlfriend is looking for a safe area outside the city. I really like what I’m seeing on Zillow so far.
First off thank you for your service. My dad did 14 years in the Navy so I respect the sacrifice. Murfreesboro is amazing. We decided East Nash over Murfreesboro only because we weren’t ready to be away from the city. But, that will definitely be our next move. You cannot go wrong there. If you want more specific data on cities you are more than welcome to check out my site livinginnashville.com
haha, i'm actually from Davie (still live here). i'm thinking of moving to Nashville; i love the city and i've got plenty of friends there. do you happen to know where the tech jobs tend to be at? i love east nashville, but i wouldn't want my commute to be too long
Hey Brett! Looking to relocate towards the end of this year. Just curious what the art gallery scene is like? Basically, I am BIG into COFFEE, ART GALLERIES, and my husband is a Musician. We know very little about Nasheville and we're hoping to reach out and get some ideas as to what area might be best suited for us. We want to be able to walk to town, but not live in the middle of everything. I am also thinking about going back to school! Not sure where yet but just curious about all of these factors. Any advice? We need help! Desperate to get out of our dreadful tiny town haha. Thank you!

Love it! Great idea. Vanderbilt is amazing!
How does the process work when you are out of state? Do y’all just say to wait until we get there in person? Or can you do anything from a distance?
We can start the process from a far. That way you are ready before you get here.
Thx for this video! Moving there from NYC soon

There are very few homes in an hoa around Nashville unless your in areas like cool springs and Brentwood
No
